Sitting in their lap - Part 2

Another part to this series, because it's fun to write and I like it. How various characters would react to a reader just sitting in their lap at random while they're working on something.

Content: Gender neutral reader (referred to as 'you'), described/implied to be physically smaller than most of the characters (simply because I am and that's how I project, but if you'd like an alternate version, send me an ask and I'll whip it up!), pre-established platonic relationships (though this may border into romantic if you consider physical affection to be that way, so be warned), (some light flirting in Kaeya's section)

Characters: Dainsleif, Diluc, Dottore, Gorou, Itto, Kaeya

Dainsleif is a little hesitant at first. Physical contact is not really something he's used to, especially not in a tender manner like this. He doesn't really fully understand it, and is pretty awkward at first, not sure of where to put his hands or what is okay to do - he keeps a careful eye out for your cues and moves slowly and carefully, as if he's afraid he'll scare you off. Once he's gotten over that initial spike of anxiety, he finds it quite pleasant to be so close to someone while he's working on something else. Your weight in his lap is comforting and the rhythm of your breathing gives him something to focus on.

Diluc won't admit it, but he really likes when you go out of your way to spend time with him. He gets rather lonely and restless on days where he's cooped up in his study filling out paperwork or reading up on intel he's received. The first time you plonked down in his lap, he was somewhat taken aback, even going so far as to ask you if it was an accident (as if you'd somehow not realised he was sitting there), but once he's reassured that it was on purpose, he silently works around you, pressing his chin into you as he leans forward to get a better look at his papers and letting out a long, low sigh of contentment. He may not let it on, but he's nigh on touch starved and absolutely drinks in the contact and how you drop the formalities with him.

Dottore asks questions. "Why are you doing that?", "Why did you seek me out specifically?", "Will you hold this beaker?", "What are you hoping to gain from this interaction?". It's annoying, but inquisitiveness is in his nature and once he's gotten the answers he wants from you he's more than happy to let you do what you like (provided your reasoning was satisfactory to him). He would never openly admit it (aside from some vague hypothesising about his own physical reaction to the added pressure of you in his lap and how it affects his work), but he finds that he doesn't particularly mind having you curled up close to his chest, pressed in so he can feel your heart beating (he's subconsciously keeping count - he likes when both of your heartbeats sync up, it provides him a strange sense of satisfaction and comfort).

Gorou is usually up and about, racing back and forth, ordering troops around, leaning over strategy maps or passing along messages, so the amount of time he spends sitting down is pretty negligible. Regardless, he won't protest if you decide to just plonk down in his lap. The exact opposite, in fact, his tail might wag back and forth a few times before he can get it under control, smiling at you and greeting you with one of his signature happy squints as his ears twitch back and forth. He's a little surprised the very first time you do it, but the comfort it seems to provide both of you is more than enough to convince him that it's a good thing. He may occasionally squirm and fidget beneath you, pressing his face into your clothing and pulling you closer every now and then, just because he likes feeling someone so close to him.

Itto loves physical contact. Love love loves it. If he ever had to go a day without touching another human being, he might just explode. He's more than happy for anyone in the gang to just plonk down practically on top of him while they sit in front of a campfire - he's cutely shocked when you seat yourself in his lap for the first time, but he composes himself quickly, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into a tight hug as he bends down to butt a horn against you gently. If it becomes a common occurrence, you may just find Itto casually patting his lap in an invitation for you to come sit whenever you stand still for a few moments while he's sitting. Despite all his muscles, he's still got a bit of squish that makes him super comfy to sit on, and anyone who is in his radius of affection is sure to come out feeling super loved and cherished, he's just a sweet, genuine guy like that.

Kaeya is such a tease about it. He'll wink and flirt and comment to the point where he's just bordering on mocking you. He settles right into it to the point where it's almost expected of you to come sit in his lap whenever you're around and available to do so. He'll just push his chair back and say something painfully cheesy along the lines of "Ah, this paperwork was beginning to get boring. Come, keep me company. Your throne awaits." as he pats his thigh and smirks. He's an absent fidgeter, even once he's absorbed himself into his work again, he'll be taking one of your hands in his, playing with your fingers as he noses into you a little, letting out a soft thoughtful hum as you shift about to get more comfortable.

The fire was warm as (name) snuggled into Ittos lap, munching on a carrot as his dad pet his little rabbit ears "and then papa smashed the hillitroll into a wall!" Itto was telling his tiny son stories of his battles, the bunny absolutely entranced by the tales and clung to every word be spoke.

"Now sleep little bunny, we have a long day tomorrow" (name) snuggled deeper into his dad's lap, eyes slipping shut as the soft pets on his head lulled him to sleep.

Come morning (name) helped the gang pack up as best as he could before he was placed on his dad's shoulders, holding onto ittos horns for stability as they began their journey to Mondstadt, the tiny bunny always excited to see the world around him.

Itto wanted (name) to experience the world and what it had to offer, often taking him to different cities festivals and such "this place has such good food! A lot your little plant eating belly can eat!"

(Name) looked curious as the city was in view and it was just as big as his papa told him "what are those spinny things?" He asked softly and Itto chuckled "those are windmills!"

"What do they do?"

"They use to wind to turn those blades and sometimes to create electricity or to use it as a mill to make grain"

(Name) looked very interested as they set up camp only a few kilometers from the city, the half ogre making sure his son had a good meal before they set off into town to replenish supplies.

"Look..." (Name)s tiny hand pointed to the large statue that stood before the Cathedral "that's the god of the winds Barbados!" Itto explained to his son, setting him down so (name) could get a proper look "big..."

Itto loved having moments like this with his kid, the two going around the city and enjoying the foods and (name) got to see a windmill up close, itto regretting not getting that fancy camera thing in Liyue because the boys expression was priceless.

"Papa! Sweet flower!" (Name) said excitedly as he pointed to the flower stand and Itto knew they weren't leaving without his sons favorite snack "we will take three" he said handing the shopkeep money and watched his son gobble the three flowers happily.

(Name) had gotten much more confident and chatty over time, not afraid to express what he wanted...though he still thought itto was his mama bunny but itto wasn't about to explain that he was actually a half ogre.

The sun set over the city, little (name) feeding birds as the gang took their supplies back to camp "come on little cotton tail, let's head back"

"We come back?"

▸ BLAISE bringing you to dragonspine to explore and letting you hold onto him for support as you walk across a particularly icy patch of land. he steadies you carefully, slowly taking each step. he laughs a little when he fumbles a bit, but is quick to catch you when you do. he grins, letting you know that he'd never let you fall- before leading you onto less slippery ground. (as he follows behind you, he probably accidentally falls anyways.)

▸ stopping by angel’s share when DILUC is working a shift. at first, it’s a small part of your routine thing- you’d stop by, greet him, and then step out and go on with your day. maybe on these little visits, you asked how he was doing once or twice, maybe sometimes he asked you. eventually, stopping by to greet him and chat a little before the customers came in was a habit. you can’t help but notice that he seems to perk up, hearing the sound of the door creaking open followed by your footsteps.

▸ ITTO insists on dragging you along to every onikabuto battle he participates in, promising that he'll win this one time and impress the hell out of you. before it starts, he gives you the biggest grin as if he's already won the match. he definitely doesn't win it in the end- but he swears that next time will be different. in the rare event he does end up winning?? he won't stop talking about it, and claims that you're now his "lucky charm." all the more reason for him to bring you along for even more onikabuto battles, of course

▸ KAEYA taking your hands in his for the first time, only to accidentally startle with you by how cold they are. you never realized maybe his cryo vision would affect things like body temperature. his hands are abnormally cold- almost frozen to the touch, even through the fabric of his fingerless gloves- but he only laughs, trying to apologize to you while stifiling chuckles. he now makes an effort to hold your hands randomly to get a reaction out of you. eventually you get used to it, and holding each other's hands becomes more of a little habit that you two have, rather than something he initiates just to try and suprise you.

▸ XIAO telling you to hold out your hand, and placing a few crystalflies in your palm before he turns away to leave. at first, the curious gesture leaves you a little confused, but you accept it nonetheless. he pauses, looking over his shoulder at your bemused expression and decides to explain- it's for your hair. "i thought that... it would look nice." before you can say anything else, like thank him, or ask him any other questions on your mind- he's already left. however, the next time you spend time with him, he quietly eyes the crystalfly you've chosen to wear. he doesn't comment, but there's a small glimmer of happiness in his eyes.

A chatty s/o - Genshin men x reader

Zhongli

The Lord of Geo was born to be a listener. He appreciates solitude at times so he can ruminate in silence but he loves being with good company even more.

He likes to sit down with you at Heyu Tea House after a long day, sip tea and just listen to your ramblings in peace

When you mention something that is in his interest, he immediately joins in and begins discussing the topic in a deeper way. So if you accidentally refer to a fisherman or some sort of, except him to start rambling as well

You talk a lot so obviously you happen to say some things you don’t actually mean but Zhongli always takes every one of your words seriously. You try not to complain because you don’t want him to worry about things that are actually not that important

You especially start doing that after he bought an entire set of new clothes from his savings just because you once said you grew a little bored of the outfit you had on.

He remembers everything you say and when he refers to them after long weeks or months, it always makes you feel delighted. And he knows that very well so he always makes sure to pay attention to the little details.

Itto

Itto loves to talk, that’s not even a question. He complains, enthuses, screams, sings loudly and sometimes even speaks just to hear his own voice.

So when he first met you, who - even if it’s hard to believe - was just as much chatty as him, he was deeply offended and took your whole existence as a competition

The people in his gang suffered from serious headaches every time you two got together. At first you were a little confused why he always tried to outtalk you and cut you off every time you began a new sentence. It took a little time for you to realise he was actually trying to dominate... in a conversation

This stupid situation made you laugh a lot but he didn’t get it why. He also continued rivaling but despite this chaotic situation, you still managed to soon grew closer

But even though you were now friends, he still didn’t let you speak that much. Needless to say, that started to really annoy you. But you knew telling him would be no use so you had to make a strategy to succeed

It was a simple plan: you just simply didn’t say a word for an entire day.

Itto felt great at the beginning. He could talk as much as he wanted to without a competitor. Then he slowly started feeling weird, like something was missing. By the end of the day he figured out what that thing was: your voice.

He learnt his lesson and never cut you off any more. Or not that often. You were now in perfect harmony with each other and talked with the other one listening. He made you laugh a lot and you were more comfortable in his presence now that he actually made sure to pay attention to your words.

Scaramouche

He hated, hated, hated social butterflies. Since he only used his cutesy, talkative side as a mask in front of strangers, he began to believe other people were like that too. Every time he saw someone acting happily or speaking loudly with joy, it annoyed and made him think they were just faking it

You were no exception. He despised you thinking you were only wearing a mask

He saw you every day. You had a vibrant smile on and laughed cheerfully at everything. He hated your voice and shook you off every time you tried starting a conversation with him

Weeks, months passed and he still saw you every day. You had the same smile on and still tried to talk to him. He slowly started becoming immune to the annoyance and sometimes even react to your words

One day, while you were babbling to him about some bugs you saw at the camp, he stared at your smile and suddenly realised he didn’t hate it that much any more. Perhaps he never hated it to begin with - he was just envious of happy people.

You continued to talk to him every day and he let you. You even managed to reach a certain point where he wouldn’t just stand and look at you in obvious boredom but rather sit down somewhere and wait until you’re finished

He mocks you for babbling a lot but secretly finds it a great discraction. He can just wander off in mind while not being alone for once

He doesn’t pay attention to your words all the time but when you’ve actually got something important to say, he’s all ears. If you complain, he does tell you to shut up but then actually give you some great advice

When he’s calm, he’s good company and though he’ll never admit it, he finds your lively presence quite healing as well.
