brb thinking about how weird Thor is to the Avengers. like he's a god, and then ofc he's their friend but also??? he's a god??? and they all get along really great in The Avengers (after they sort their shit out ofc) but then Thor just. disappears. and the Avengers are fine with that because he's a god and he has other places to be and this was just a one-time thing and how cool is it to say they got to fight a battle with a god? it's a memory they're cherish forev--is that Thor in London? 🤨 and then he comes back again to find Loki's scepter and they're like "yeah, this is just another mission for him, that's it," but then they all start to like Thor and Thor starts to like them and it's such a great friendship! and then they find the scepter and he peaces the fuck out again. maybe it wasn't such a great friendship. but that's okay. he's a god. he has other places to be right now. he was just trying to find the scepter, and now that that's done, he doesn't need to be here. they were just work friends and that's fine. it's disappointing that they're never gonna see him again--what the fuck is that crash-landing into the Wakandan battlefield? hot diggity dog, it's static electricity man himself. like the other five Avengers are all friends and they're all humans and they all pretty much know how to find each other if they need them and then there's fucking Thor who always just kinda appears when he needs their help and then he disappears again for years on end and there's always that slight chance he'll come back again but also not really (but also he might?)
#like imagine being Clint or Bruce post-Endgame knowing that Thor went off with the Guardians and he's back in space and he's got shit to#do and they'll probably never see him again unless they actually go to New Asgard and he just happens to be back but he's not just gonna#show up in front of them. like they were just work friends and now the work is over#but there's always that small little itty bitty chance that he's gonna come back and be like 'hey team let's do a thing!"#and then disappear for another few years whenever it's done#idk i just feel like he's such a mystery to them because he does have that double life of doing shit in space that they can't comprehend#thor

Babysitting
Soo this is my first time writing a fic and it’s a little bit iffy but eh I’m posting it anyway. It ended up being a lot longer than originally intended so I’m only putting up the first part right now. WIP so don’t judge too hard. It looks like it’s going to be a cool action story about some looming villain but is actually just about the avenger kids babysitting Morgan. Lots of Peter & Morgan being siblings ‘cause I love them. Oh and contains Endgame spoilers I guess so don’t read if you haven’t seen it yet. Enjoy
___________________________________________
Communication was iffy, to say the least, among the remaining Avengers after the second snap. What with many retiring, some being halfway across the world, and a large percentage of them in space, it wasn’t always clear as to how to get in touch with each other. Whenever a threat arose big enough to alert everyone, it usually went through Nick Fury, who seemed to have an obscure way of contacting everyone. At the moment, though, he and Agent Hill were investigating the aftermath of some European incidents, and were indisposed. That meant the process was much slower.
It had started when Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel herself, had heard about trouble brewing on a distant planet; something that might affect the rest of the galaxy as well. Upon visiting the said planet and realizing it was much worse than she could have imagined, she made the decision to call in some backup.
She managed to track down the Benatar, because of the homing device the Guardians had entrusted to her. From there, Thor gave Rocket Bruce’s email address and sent him a message, hoping for the best. Intergalactic messaging is normally not the quickest, but it was going to have to work. Carol led the Guardians to the planet, insisting there was no time to waste. The Earthens would make it there eventually, but until they did, there wasn’t a minute to spare.
Dr. Bruce Banner, currently large, green, and Hulky, received the email approximately twenty-two hours after it was sent. He was working in his lab then, and at first was delighted to get correspondence from his adventuring buddies, but quickly became horrified at the news. He made nine phone calls in the next half-hour, to a various number of people.
.***
“So, uh, because of all that there will be a Wakandan airship arriving on your farm in about two minutes…”
“Um, what? Buddy, you gotta be kidding me. I’m retired, I thought you were too.” Clint had his phone pinched between his ear and his shoulder, attempting at multitasking.
“I know, I know, but-” Bruce paused and flinched as loud grinding sounds came from the other end. “What exactly are you doing right now?”
“I was trying to finish building our new shed.” Holding a wooden beam upright, he clicked the button on the drill he was holding and it whined as it forced in a screw. Using his left hand to dust sawdust off of his shirt, he set the drill down on his workbench and laid the phone flat on his shoulder. “Lila, hon, come here a sec. Tell your Uncle Bruce why I’m not skipping out on our father-daughter weekend.”
“Sure, Dad.” She laughed, setting down the bucket of apples she had been picking from a nearby tree. She jogged over to him and was handed the phone. Clint returned to building his shed.
“Clint- are you there?”
“Hey Uncle Bruce, I’m really sorry but my dad is unavailable this weekend because mom took the boys to her parents and I finally don’t have to deal with them for once, and once he’s done with his latest construction project he promised to teach me some moves on his sword and then we’re staying up late and eating ice cream-hey Dad what’s that noi-”
She dropped the phone in surprise as huge gusts of wind blew down on them from above. Lila’s hair whipped around her face as a glowing hexagonal shield appeared in the sky, revealing a sleek black airship. She glanced at Clint, who was shielding his eyes with his hand. He sighed. “Guess we’re going to have to pick this back up next weekend.”
***
The couch at the Lang household was, as far as they were concerned, the most comfortable piece of furniture in the world. Scott, Hope and Cassie had all settled into it, gigantic bowls of popcorn on their laps, and were just about to press play on their favorite movie when their phone rang. Scott dramatically dropped the remote beside him in defeat, and reached over to grab the phone from the coffee table.
“Who is it, Dad?” Cassie asked, looking over to see the number.
“If it’s Luis again, just leave it,” Hope joked, playfully stealing some popcorn from Cassie’s bowl.
“No, no. I gotta take this. It’s Bruce, my favorite guy!” he exclaimed, stepping into the next room.
“Is that the big green one?” Cassie whispered as Hope laughed.
“Hey, Doc Green, what’s up? Scott asked, leaning against the wall.
“Something bad, I’m afraid. We need both of you to come in.”
Scott rubbed his forehead. “What’s wrong? Can’t someone else take it for once? We just started movie night, man.”
“That’s pretty much what Clint said. But no, it’s an emergency, and we’re calling in the whole team.” Cassie listened from the living room, waiting anxiously. Secretive phone calls were never good. And neither were giant airships in your backyard.
***
“Bruce- are you sure? I mean, I’ve got both the kids here, and-” Pepper spoke into the phone with a hushed voice, leaning against the kitchen counter. She glanced over to the dining room table, where Peter was helping Morgan with her homework. Not that she had much homework at six years old, but Peter had taken it upon himself to make sure she lived up to the reputation of her genius father. That meant many late-night reading sessions.
In the year since the second snap, Peter and Morgan had grown close. They were basically siblings. Peter bounced from his apartment to the lake house to HQ, and Pepper had gotten to know him better. She really liked the kid, and decided to keep up her late husband’s legacy of parenting him. It’s what Tony would have wanted, anyway.
“I’m sorry, Pepper, but we really need everyone we can get. Rescue’s needed, too.” Bruce hated calling everyone in from their lives, but it was crucial.
Careful not to disturb the kids, she sighed and said quietly, “All right. But the kid stays here.”
“But Pepper, he’s got some powerful skills-”
“Out of the question. He’s seventeen, and he’s already had to deal with enough after everything Fury put him through.”
He started to protest more, but just sighed. “Okay, fine. Everyone’s going to meet up at your place in a few minutes. Expect lots of airships.”
“At this point, nothing would surprise me.” She hung up and set the phone down on the counter. She rested her chin in her hands, deep in thought. She had never been to space before; it was both exciting and terrifying. She didn’t want to leave Morgan, who had already lost one parent to a supernatural battle, but everything Bruce had told her made it clear this mission was more important than their daily lives. If Carol Danvers, one of the most powerful people in the galaxy, called for help, it was definitely serious.
“W-wan-”
“Close, look at the context clues.”
“Wonderful!”
“Yeah, you got it! Nice job, Morgs.” Pepper watched from the kitchen as Peter gave Morgan two high fives. Morgan was usually ornery as a donkey when it came to learning new words, but with Peter she didn’t seem to mind. She thought he was the coolest person in the world.
“Can we take a break? We’ve been going for hours,” she whined, yawning a little and slumping over into his lap. “And I want a juice pop.”
“Perfect timing. It’s probably getting close to your bedtime, too,” he teased, tickling the back of her neck. She squealed and sat up, batting away his hands. Scampering into the kitchen, she made a mad dash for the freezer before Pepper sidestepped in front of her, blocking it.
“Uh uh, little miss. Supper before dessert.” Morgan crossed her arms and stamped her foot, but failed to contain a smile.
“You haven't cooked us dinner yet, Mommy! How are we supposed to eat it?” she cried, throwing up her arms.
“There’s the leftover risotto in the fridge, I told you I would heat it up when you wanted it.”
She made a face. “That stuff’s gross.”
Pepper shrugged. “Guess you don’t get juice pops, then.”
“Hey- hey, Mrs. Stark, what’s happening out there?” Peter had pulled aside the curtains and was peeking out the window, where in the soft evening light you could just make out several descending airships. And a lot of noise.
“Mommy?” Morgan asked hesitantly, looking at her with wide, anxious eyes.
“Don’t worry, kids,” Pepper replied, walking up to the door and unlocking it. “This is just...well, you’ll see.”
Part two to come soon!

looks like my exhausted rambling isn’t over yet but this time I’m gonna talk about Tony Stark and why I hate the direction the MCU went (aside from Black Panther, Gaurdians of the Galaxy, and Ragnarok - but why they’re exceptions might also be touched on)
so, a long while ago I talked about how Young Justice and Teen Titans has been exactly what I needed when I first moved to Bellevue - I would imagine the heroes watching over me, making sure I was safe, or coming to whisk me away so I could join them and become a hero myself
I started watching the MCU movies around the end of middle school/beginning of high school and Iron Man, for me, couldn’t have come into my life at a better time
firstly, my first introduction to superhero movies was the Batman Beyond trilogy which was exactly the opposite of what I needed and almost enough to turn me off superhero movies entirely
and then I saw Iron Man, which was so completely different - it was funny and hopeful and bright - but also... well
around that time I’d constructed a mask to hide all my negative emotions - all my pain and anger and fear, everything caused by the abuse I’d suffered in Texas and my mom and brother starting to lash out more and more - and this mask, well to me it looked an awful lot like Tony Stark’s
and that was what I needed, I needed to see myself in him, to have the reassurance that I could move on from my past and become a better person, that I could have happiness, that no matter what others might think or see neither my mask and what was under it made me an irredeemable person
for the whole first half of the MCU I latched on to Tony, him and Loki were my favorite characters because they represented the two possibilities of what I could become - the positive and the negative, and even the negative didn’t look all that bad once you scaled it down to a small, disabled human from the powerful, magically talented god
(I also liked Loki because it was like they’d taken all my own family issues and lain them out in a way that anywhere I looked in the fandom I’d see people indirectly supporting me through their support of him)
I also liked Bruce, Clint, and Natasha, and all the side characters, they were all relatable in small human ways that I was very fond of
Thor and Steve I struggled with though
for about three years - the three years I lived in Texas - my mother was married to a bodybuilder name James, he was abusive and because of this I was traumatized and spent up until recently automatically scared of any large muscular man
sort of a ‘they have to prove they’re not to be scared of instead of the other way around’ kinda thing, and unfortunately Steve and Thor did not do that in those first few movies
so I projected heavily on Tony and tried not to let my trauma color my opinion of Steve and Thor too much and trusted that Marvel would handle their main characters as well as I was used to from things like, for example, Teen Titans or Young Justice
Age of Ultron was difficult but it had some good Clint moments and the ‘language!’ running joke was fun - I was torn up at the loss of Jarvis, of course
and then Civil War came out
they took the character I projected on and one of the characters my trauma made me somewhat distrustful of and pitted them against each other and somehow, miraculously, I sided with Steve
of course I sided more with healthy communication and talking things out amongst themselves before they take sides and start splitting up but unfortunately there wouldn’t have been much of a movie if they’d done that, would there?
and then
and then, Steve admitted to knowing who killed Tony’s parents and not telling him sooner and got upset at him for being upset
I’d managed to get past my trauma enough to recognize that he was mostly dedicated to being a good person, I’d even managed to get past it enough to side with him over Tony for the better part of that movie
but watching that fight, especially the end where Tony was laying there defenseless, was almost like being retraumatized - having the association of large muscular men as violent and dangerous rebranded into my brain - and the letter he sent at the end pulled up all the less physical aspects of James’s abuse
and so Steve was firmly associated in my head with all of that stuff from my past, and it made it so hard to participate in fandom where suddenly everyone was picking a side and declaring one or the other completely in the wrong
and those who like Steve or believed his side was right decided anyone who liked Tony, or disapproved of how Steve handled the whole situation with Tony’s parents having been murdered, was a terrible person and should be torn down for liking him, they reduced Tony to his mask and declared that he’d never be able to make up for his past - called him heartless and more
and those who supported Tony were just as bad
and there was no room for someone who supported Steve’s argument against the accords but was against his actions in the Hydra base(I don’t remember where it was, I watched the movie once and refused to ever watch it again cause it was too triggering for me)
and while the rift in the fandom has softened, its still there - everyone seems to either hate Tony or hate Steve
and those who dislike Tony have had more and more good reason to as the series has gone on and it hurts
because at some point he stopped being a beacon of hope for me while still being too connected to me
in fact, it’s almost like him and Loki switched places with Ragnarok and everything
(here’s where we touch on why Ragnarok is so much better than most of the rest of the MCU, and is in fact my #1 favorite MCU movie)
by the time Ragnarok came out I had lost my main fictional source of hope for myself - I’d only ever found two characters I related to in that way and on that level: Tony and Loki (there have been many other fictional characters I’ve related to but all either on much smaller scale or just in wildly different directions)
and Tony was quickly becoming worse than what Loki had represented for me, my hope turned sour, my mask indistinguishable from the truth, I was a little lost
I distanced myself somewhat from the MCU fandom, I just couldn’t handle it, it hurt too much
and then I watched Ragnarok
Thor was goofy and ridiculous and silly and a definite hero but in an almost washed up way - like his time had come and gone and come again and he was gonna grab it with both hands while it was there but not take it too seriously this time cause he knew better, y’know?
and that was exactly what I needed to get past the ‘big muscular man’ trigger to see him as a whole Good Person and absolutely love him
and him and Loki’s interactions were exactly what I needed right at the cusp of a change for the better in my relationship with my own brother
and by the end of the movie Loki was happy and accepted and understood (and gay, can’t forget the gay subtext) - while still being himself - and that was definitely what I needed
and then Infinity War and Endgame came out and I still haven’t watched either of them yet but I don’t need to and I don’t want to because I’ve had enough spoiled for me to know that nothing good would come of it
and it makes me so sad and angry
Marvel took this series, these characters, that was so important to me at such a difficult part of my life, that I was so dedicated to for so long, and essentially threw it all away, trashed it, ran it into the ground so thoroughly that I decided not to watch any more unless it’s, like, a Black Panther sequel - and that mostly because black superhero movies need to be supported so more will get made cause they’re important (and because Black Panther was good but, I mean, I feel like the rest of this post does a good job explaining that one movie being good doesn’t mean it’s sequel will be or that you should watch the sequel so the representation aspect makes more of a difference for me rn)
and all because... what?... cause they decided drama and conflict was more important than their main team being a team? cause they didn’t want any spoilers leaked so they lied to their actors? because they were more motivated by making money than telling a satisfying story? cause they forgot not all their watchers are cookie cutter carbon copies of each other and all relate to different aspects of different characters for different reasons?
because they forgot that because this series might be a child’s first introduction to the concept of superheroes they have a responsibility to protect and nurture that child’s faith in the world? that’s the responsibility you take upon yourself when working with those characters, any superhero characters unless your story is undeniably adult oriented, and you need to remember that
superheroes are supposed to be our hope that maybe things can be better, maybe we can make a difference, that’s what got Marvel and DC big and they need to do better to remember it
(I liked Black Panther because it was very emotionally impactful and visually stunning and had great characters and representation - so many different important woman characters as well as most the characters being black! - and just overall was, like, the ideal movie)
(I liked Guardians of the Galaxy 1&2 because it was easily separated from the rest of the MCU in my head and it was fun and funny and leaned very heavily into found family which is my jam and it had an A+ soundtrack and Groot was adorable and amazing and Drax was very autistic coded in a Good way, also Gamora and Nebula gave me similar sibling feels to Thor and Loki which is important to me)

Walking The Wire (138/159)
Summary: Tony Stark always knew about Peter Parker. He didn’t know that Peter was going to get superpowers and become Spider-Man, but he always knew about Peter because Peter was his son.
This will span from pre-Iron Man up through the rest of the MCU (eventually including Infinity War) and will be for the most part canon compliant except where I’ve taken some liberties and interpreted canon a certain way.
Pairings: Pepper/Tony, Tony/Steve (endgame), Tony/Mary (past)
A/N: If you want me to tag you when I post new chapters let me know. This fic is also on AO3
I used Collider’s MCU timeline to stay canon and the title of this fic is an Imagine Dragons song that is just so fitting for Peter and Tony

Chapter One Hundred Thirty Seven
Bruce and Tony got busy getting acquainted with the quantum tunnel and the pym particles and every piece of information that they could get their hands on even if Tony seemed to already have his own ideas about time travel because of course Tony would. Scott offered what he knew which was apparently a lot and everyone else just left them to it. It was easier that way.
So while Natasha had taken on the task of showing Carol around, Steve had followed Thor outside to where Rocket had gone back to keep working on the Benatar.
“Do any time-travel ever?” Steve asked.
Rocket made a noise that sounded not unlike a snort.
“No. I did not think it possible,” Thor said.
Steve nodded. “Me either. I mean -- aside from the getting frozen and waking up in the future kind.”
Thor shook his head and Steve could tell that he was a little amused. “If this works,” he said, “I will be glad. Stark deserves his child back.”
“Peter’s seventeen,” Steve said.
“Very young,” Thor said. “Bruce said you and Tony were getting married.”
Steve hadn’t thought about it much -- hadn’t had a chance to think on it mostly because he was so happy to have Tony back that the whole getting married thing didn’t matter in the least. Especially not with everything else that was going on.
“We are,” he said.
“It will be quite the celebration,” Thor said. “I look forward to it. After all of this is over, of course.”
Steve nodded and Thor was right -- they would have a wedding after it was all over. First they needed to fix things and make sure that Peter and Bucky could be there with them. Especially Peter who had done so much of the planning and who had been so excited and supportive. It was easier to let him imagine their future like that -- with everything going well and a wedding and Peter right there with them laughing and tugging at his tie and with all the rest watching as he and Tony declared their love to each other. Easier than to think of what Scott had seen where Tony was--
He couldn’t even consider it. That wouldn’t be their future -- his future. They were going to change things. Already, they were changing things. None of them had voiced anything to do with their earlier plan to go after Thanos especially when Scott told them that doing exactly that had led to Tony dying.
Natasha joined them after a little while, holding a tablet. “I have a lead on Clint,” she said. “One of my contacts just sent me new intel. Carol is back with Tony and Bruce. Rhodey has to go back to the city as well so we’ll head out together. Call us if anything comes up.”
“Sure,” Steve said. “Do you need any backup?”
She shook her head. “Might spook him. Better, I go alone.”
Steve nodded. Rhodes clapped his shoulder as he passed and did the same to Thor.
After Natasha and Rhodes had taken off in one of the quinjets, Steve got to thinking about what else they were overlooking or that they might need. Then, he remembered something Thor had said about the stones earlier.
“They cannot be wielded by anyone -- it’s why they’ve all been encased somehow. The raw power of any of the stones would kill anyone that tried to touch them.”
Rocket had been quick to support Thor and explained how it had taken all of the Guardians to control the Power Stone without the power of the stone destroying them. Somehow, Jane had managed to live even after having one infect her body. Thor claimed she would have died if it wasn’t taken out of her when it was and Steve believed him. It meant that they were going to need to get something to hold the stones. And if they hoped to use them to change everything then they might need their own gauntlet or something similar enough to hold the stones. That was part of the plan that none of them had thought of.
“Thor, do we know anything about where Thanos got the gauntlet?” Steve asked.
“It was forged in the same place where my hammer and my axe were forged. In Nivadellier,” Thor said.
“And can we get another?”
“The mold was still there,” Thor said, “but even getting Stormbreaker made was a hardship I almost paid with my life.”
“Right,” Steve said. Things were rarely easy.
“I’m not saying it’s not doable,” Thor said. “And you are right, Cap, we’ll need our own gauntlet.”
She was green and young and really really sad.
It was Bucky that spotted her wandering around. There were plenty of odd people around seeing as the stone was housing half the universe so Peter had gotten to see all kinds of beings. Green and purple and yellow and gold people with crazy hair and weirder clothes. Aliens. Mostly everyone found someone they knew and they stuck to them. There was very little interaction and yet this girl seemed completely alone.
“Are you alright?” Sam asked.
Peter watched with interest. She turned to look at them with some confusion. “He did it. He put us all here and he thinks he’s doing what’s best,” she said. With conviction she added, “he’s wrong.”
“What’s your name?” Bucky asked and moved closer.
She stared up at him. Her hair was tinged with red and there was something about her eyes that told Peter that she wasn’t just some little girl. Maybe it was an alien thing, he couldn’t tell, but she seemed to look at each of them for a long moment.
“I’m Gamora,” she said.
Peter knew that name. Gamora. It sounded so familiar. Too familiar.
Gamora. Gamora.
He knew -- where was Quill? Hadn’t he -- wasn’t Gamora the person that Thanos had killed...the one that had made him break their plan and just lose it when Peter had almost had the gauntlet. And Thanos had muttered the name too.
But they’d never said it was a little girl and maybe Gamora was a common name in space. Still, he had to be sure.
“Sam, have you seen Quill?”
Sam looked at him confused. “What do you need him for?”
Peter was well aware that Sam didn’t really like Quill and Peter sort of felt like he was an acquired taste. They’d run into him at some point and Quill had sort of rubbed Sam the wrong way with his mixture of bad jokes, odd references to songs that Peter didn’t know much about, and his general demeanor.
Peter thought that maybe being out in space with him had made him like Quill a little more despite how his anger had lead to them not being able to take the gauntlet from Thanos.
“I think -- I think he may know her,” Peter said. “Kind of a long shot but--”
Sam shrugged his shoulders but went to find Quill. Peter turned back to the conversation that Bucky was having with the girl. She was a bit stiff, maybe not sure if she could trust them, and yet she stayed where she was and Peter smiled at her she smiled back.
“He was good to me once,” she said. “It doesn’t really matter. His cause and his beliefs were always more important.”
“Who?” Peter asked.
She didn’t answer and her face turned into a frown. Bucky looked concerned but completely out of his depth and Peter had to admit that he didn’t really know what to do with kids. Much less alien kids.
Sam returned with Quill who was grumbling behind him as he walked. “What’s the meaning of this -- I was in the middle of something and you just--”
Peter rolled his eyes and Bucky shook his head just as Gamora’s eyes landed on Quill and she gasped. “Peter,” she said.
“Um, that’s me,” Peter said, confused, looking from Gamora to Quill.
“Gamora?” Quill asked, eyes wide and confused. “But you’re -- you’re not. What happened to you? I thought you were…”
“He sacrificed me for the stone and so the stone took me,” Gamora said. “I didn’t know he could love anyone which doesn’t make him any less a monster.”
Peter looked between Quill and Gamora and then right before their eyes Gamora started to change, growing in stature and her features becoming more narrow and less child-like and then a woman stood before them still green and with her pink hair and an aura of sad resignation around her. She was the little girl.
“I can’t believe it -- Nebula said he must have killed you but you’re here…I’m sorry -- I’m sorry I didn’t do it. I tried,” Quill said and he finally moved towards her
“I know you did,” Gamora said. “Peter, I know. It’s not your fault. Odds were against us. Thanos is--”
“Wait,” Peter said, but only Bucky seemed to be paying him any attention, “his name is also Peter?”
Carol was relatively quiet as they worked. She observed and walked around the lab and mostly just seemed perfectly at ease.
Tony had abandoned looking at things from the perspective of where and when they should go get the stones because he figured that was something they didn’t need to worry too much about just yet. Instead, he was trying to figure out how they could make sure they went to the right time.
“Well, what were you thinking about that brought you here?” Tony asked.
“I’m only off by a few months,” Scott said. “I thought about the date I wanted to return to and I guess I got a bit side-tracked thinking about the decimation and Hope and Hank and Janet.”
“So it’s really a matter of focus,” Carol said.
Scott nodded. That was exactly when it hit Tony. BARF. He would have to really have an in depth look at all the information on the quantum tunnel and time vortexes, but it was the only thing that made sense to work.
“We can -- we can try to use BARF,” Tony said.
“What? Tony are you--”
“Binarily augmented retro framing,” Tony said.
“What does that mean?” Scott asked.
Carol looked interested too.
Tony jumped into an explanation. They all watched him and Tony rambled on about memories and accessing the brain.
“And this machine -- it’ll help how?”
“With it we can accurately control the time vortex. It can -- it’s a game changer. We won’t just be time travelling to a certain date but maybe even down to the moment. And you know what else -- Barf might be able to help you out with your green problem too. Don’t know why I didn’t think on that before. I -- this is perfect. Now we can really get down to business and figure out exactly when we have to go back to. Bruce, we’re...we’re really doing this.”

Chapter One Hundred Sixty Five
-
“I’m a really big fan,” Peter said.
Thor was really really tall. He was also more muscular than Peter had expected when standing up close and yet there were his biceps. May was right about them being something to admire because they were huge. All of Thor was kind of just big. Even, it seemed, his personality. Maybe that just came with the territory of being a god.
“I’ve been told that, Peter son of Stark,” Thor said. “You have your own fans, I hear.”
“Um, I guess so--”
Sam next to Peter chuckled. Peter glared at him. The reception was in full swing. There was music playing -- something from the eighties because Quill had decided that he needed to have some input with the music but no one really seemed to mind. His dad and Steve were dancing. Everyone was still eating or finishing up and Peter had finally had his chance to meet Thor. At last.
“So is it true that only you can wield the hammer? Well, the axe now?”
Thor nodded. He didn’t seem at all bothered by Peter talking to him and asking questions.
“Only someone worthy can lift it,” Thor said. “Would you like a try?”
Peter shook his head at once. Eyes wide. “No. No. I don’t think I could--”
Thor chuckled. “All the Avengers tried once. Your father came close.”
“My father? Really? What was he wearing the armor while he tried or something?”
Thor chuckled. “Not that father. The other one.”
“Oh. Well, yeah, I could see Steve maybe being able to do it.”
It would have been fitting, too, Peter thought. Steve was probably worthy.
Peter asked Thor about the other Asgardians and how they were settling into Earth and it was nice to listen to Thor explain how different “Midgard” was to his home planet. But it seemed like his people were settling in fine.
“They have Valkyrie, she’s a good leader,” Thor said. He motioned towards the Asgardian that was currently playing some sort of drinking game with Rocket and Quill.
He talked to him for a while and Thor seemed entertained by Peter even after Dr. Banner joined them. Peter was also quite star struck by the mild mannered Bruce Banner and Peter had a whole lot of questions to ask him that were more science related and he could tell that Dr. Banner was curious about him and his powers.
“You’ll just need to stop by my lab sometime, Peter, I’m sure we’ll have lots to talk about.”
“Yes. Definitely. I’m so down for that.”
He only left them when he spotted Ned waving him over. Ned and Michelle were sitting with May and Pepper and Happy. It was in many ways the most normal table at the reception. May still got on really well with Pepper, and they were mid-conversation when Peter approached the table.
“Hey,” Ned said, “were you just talking to Thor? That is so cool.”
Peter laughed. “Yeah, it kind of was. He’s very different but nice.”
“So, the crush will remain alive and well,” Michelle said with a smirk.
“It’s not a crush,” Peter muttered. “I kinda -- no, it’s not important. Are you guys having a good time?” He pulled a chair from another table to sit down between them.
“We are,” Michelle said. “I am. This has been -- I never expected to go to anything quite like this.”
“Nor I,” May said, but she was smiling.
“It’s a crazy world the one that Tony Stark inhabits,” Pepper said. “Never a dull moment. I don’t know how Steve’s going to deal with it.”
Bucky happened to be passing at that moment and he stopped. “Stevie is just as much of a mess, that’s how. They’re kind of perfect for each other.”
They really were. When Peter looked for them, he spotted them at their table and they were talking to each other. Steve laughed at something and his dad smiled and there was just so much love and fondness in their eyes when they looked at each other. It was kind of amazing to see two people so in love.
---
When we met, I didn’t see you. But when I started looking, I couldn’t stop seeing you. You make the world brighter, Tony Stark, and I selfishly want to keep you forever. You gave me a home, a family, and a future. I love you. I will always love you.
---
The whole of it was a success. Tony had had a few doubts with the rain and then with Pepper having the bad news that their DJ cancelled. But in the end, everything turned out fine. As Friday predicted the rain stopped and then Peter Quill had stepped up and dealt with the music and somehow nothing went amiss. He and Steve were married and Tony was happier than he could ever remember being.
All his friends -- his family -- had come. Scott and his ex-wife, wife’s new husband, and daughter. His girlfriend Hope and the Pyms. Clint and his brood. A lot of the people that Tony actually respected from SI including Agent and Sharon Carter -- although she wasn’t really Shield anymore these days. All the of The Avengers. The Guardians of the Galaxy. T’Challa and Shuri. Even Strange and Wong had shown up. Fury and Maria Hill had made it and Carol had returned from space just in time.
“This everything you wanted?” he asked Steve as they slow danced.
Steve was a careful dancer, wary of stepping on Tony. Wary of skills that he thought he didn’t have even though he moved more like a dancer than a fighter when in the middle of battle. It was a matter of how he seemed to overthink his every step. He didn’t trust himself.
“You are everything I wanted,” Steve whispered. “This is just nice -- having everyone here.”
“Sappy. You’re getting sappy in your old age, husband.”
“I am not the oldest one in this relationship, husband,” Steve said.
Tony tutted at him. “Just because you were in ice,” Tony whispered back. “Something I will always be grateful for.”
“Is it everything you wanted?” Steve asked.
Tony shrugged his shoulders and he spun them, looking around at the other dancing couples. Clint and Laura. Scott and Hope. Natasha was trying to get Nebula to dance with her to not avail. Gamora was over in a more secluded area with Quill. Then there was everyone else mingling around them. Pepper and Happy laughing at a table with Rhodey. He spotted Peter with his friends. Thor was talking to Shuri and Tony would have loved to know how that was going. Then, he spotted May talking to Bruce.
“Yeah. You at my side. All of our friends. Our son.”
Steve’s eyes met his. “Our son,” he repeated.
Tony kissed him, chaste and quick. He pressed their foreheads together. “Steve, you jumped off a cliff to bring him back to me even though you had no idea if you’d survive it because you love him just as much as I do. He’s yours too.”
Steve smiled and nodded. They’d discussed it before a few times, but it was nice to bring it up again. “Yeah, he is. We talked about it before the ceremony.”
“Of course you did. He loves you too, you know.”
“Yeah, I know. I didn’t think I needed to hear it from him, but when he said it, it was one of the best feelings in the world.”
Peter laughed from the table he was at -- joined by Bucky and Sam -- and for a while Tony just watched him and he remembered once not expecting to ever get to meet or be a part of Peter’s life at all. But he had met him and formed a relationship with him. He’d brought him back after Thanos snapped him from existence.
Steve kissed his temple and pulled at his hand. Tony followed, walking beside him towards Peter who immediately got up and hugged him first and then Steve, staying between them for a moment once May got out her phone to take a picture.
“Be sure to send that to me,” Tony said.
“Of course,” May said.
When Peter moved away, again, Tony drifted closer to Steve, pressed against his side. Peter glanced back at them and Tony just smiled at him and then looked to Steve again. He was so so lucky.
---
I once thought I’d be alone forever. I didn’t think I’d ever even meet my son much less someone I would want to share him with. Not until you, Steve Rogers. There are no words to describe the relief I feel at having you at my side. This is for as long as the universe allows and even beyond that. I love you.
---
The rest of the night went well. There were speeches at some point and Peter could tell that Bucky had gotten into some of Thor’s Asgardian mead because he seemed a little drunk when he gave his.
“Super soldiers aren’t supposed to get drunk, are they?” Ned asked.
“No. Not unless it’s alien mead.” He motioned towards Thor and the other Asgardians.
Rhodey had given a best man’s speech too -- a more coherent one. Peter really intended to spend more time with him and ask him about stories about his dad when they were both in MIT because he knew they had to be good. And despite officiating the wedding, Pepper had had a few things to add to Rhodey’s speech as well. Peter was just glad that he didn’t have to make one.
All in all, the wedding was perfect. It was towards the end of the night that his dad got up to talk.
“I want to thank everyone for being here. It’s been a long few months for a lot of us but the world is finally set right and we can only hope that it will remain so. Today I married the love of my life -- a man for another era entirely and one I’ve loved and hated my entire life. He brings out the best in me and I hope I do the same for him. And I’m just glad I get to share this with all of you. With my friends, my teammates, and our son.”
He paused them, to glance around at everyone.
“My dear husband and I are going to take off, now, but the party can keep going. There is a lot to celebrate and plenty of cake.”
Before leaving, his dad and Steve stopped where Peter was standing with a plate of cake.
“Have a good night,” Peter said and wiggled his eyebrows.
“Don’t be cheeky, child,” his dad said.
Peter hugged his dad first and then Steve.
“I’m really happy for you,” Peter whispered.
His dad kissed the top of his head. “Love you kid. We’ll see you tomorrow.”
The party kept going after they left. Thor and the other Asgardians were still drinking. Quill kept up his playlist and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Peter spotted Natasha dancing with one of Clint’s kids. Scott was dancing with his daughter. It was cute.
“This was nice,” MJ said. “Thanks for the invite.”
Peter nodded. “I’m glad you came. Did you--” he motioned at the dance floor, “did you want to dance? I mean, it’s okay if you don’t, but there’s really nothing else to do and I think May said we’d be leaving soon too so--”
MJ grabbed his hand and Peter trailed off, his eyes widened and when he looked at her she just laughed and then tugged him along.
“You ramble a lot,” she said.
Peter didn’t know what song was playing because it was something too old for him to actually know, but it was soft and easy to dance to even if it still made him just a little nervous when MJ turned to him. But moments later, his arms were around her waist and her arms were over his shoulders and as nervous as it made him, MJ felt good in his arms. She smelled like something flowery.
It felt like the moment lasted mere seconds but also forever and when it was over and Peter pulled back, he smiled at her and she smiled back.
“That was...that was nice,” Peter said.
“Yeah…”
It was awkward. Everything was just so awkward. It was lucky that Ned appeared then and he clapped Peter on the shoulder.
“Good, found you two. May thinks it might be a good time to go.”
“Oh,” Peter said. “Yeah, sure.”
Although his dad and Steve were going to some fancy hotel for the night and Peter had had the option to stay at the compound with Bucky and Sam and the rest, he’d decided to spend the night with May instead. He hadn’t gotten to see much of her since the first time he went to see her and it also meant spending a bit more time with Ned and MJ on the drive to Queens.
May had insisted on driving instead of letting Happy pick her up or letting Doctor Strange bring them over through a portal, but Peter didn’t mind the drive. They found her soon enough. She was talking to Happy and Pepper and Peter was surprised to see how weirdly cozy they looked.
He gave Pepper a hug and high fived Happy and then said his goodbyes to Natasha and Bucky but only because he saw them as they were heading out. He wasn’t sure how much longer the party would go for, but everyone still seemed to be having fun.
“It wasn’t as overthetop as I thought it was going to be,” May said as they set out.
Peter shrugged. “Pepper and the wedding planner had a lot to do with that. Also how fast they had to arrange things.”
“Well, it was nice,” MJ said. “I had a great time.”
She met his eyes and Peter ducked his head and then they all got into May’s car. Ned told them all about how he’d managed to talk to Sam for a while and how cool he was and it was easy to let Ned just fill the silence.
The topic of conversation drifted away from the wedding to other things eventually and everything just felt normal. MJ even tried to bring up decathlon.
“We’re not even in school right now,” Ned said. “We don’t have to worry about it.”
“I just want us to do well, Ned, and as captain that falls on me. All I’m saying is that Peter can’t slack off because of his spiderness.”
“Hey! I went to all the practices last year.”
“He did,” Ned said.
After they dropped off Ned and MJ, Peter leaned back into his seat. He was actually feeling quite tired from the day and he wasn’t expecting for May to want to talk to him about anything.
“You know, for a while there I hated that you knew the truth,” May said. “I didn’t trust Tony Stark to really know what was best for you. I figured he would take you away. I guess, well, he sort of did. But he also didn’t keep you away and after Ben -- I’m really glad you get to have him be your father. Your dad. And from the state he was in when you were gone, I know that he loves you and that he needs you just as much.”
“May, I--”
May reached over and grabbed his hand. “You have a big family, actually, and I’m really glad you do.”
Peter nodded, thinking about everyone at the wedding. Most of them he could consider family. A big superhero family and some of them weren’t even human.
“I guess I do,” Peter said.
---
“I don’t even want to know how much money you spent on this place. Especially when we could have just gone back to the tower seeing as no one is there.”
Tony just chuckled. Steve had been nagging him about their post-wedding plans since he’d learned of them earlier in the day, but Tony wanted to end the night in style by which he meant with a surprise.
“I really love hearing you put down all my romantic plans,” Tony said, but shot Steve a grin.
“I just don’t think it’s necessary,” Steve said.
Tony nodded. “I kind of figured you’d feel that way. But have I mentioned how much I enjoy seeing you riled up over something that doesn’t even matter?”
Although Tony was in the driver’s seat, it was Friday that had control of the car and so Tony felt entirely safe turning to look at his new husband. “I did something a little crazy,” he said.
Steve’s suit looked as pristine on him as it had in the beginning of the night and the way he looked at Tony was with a warmth fondness rather than any real annoyance. They were both so sappy and in love and it was kind of disgusting.
“Crazy how?” Steve asked.
“Crazy as in, Peter is right, and we do deserve to have a honeymoon. Even a small one. And if we do it in another time, then Peter won’t have a chance to get into any real trouble.”
Steve shook his head. “Tony, you’re...where -- no, when are we even going?”
“Any time you want. Anywhere you want. As long as we’re together.”
“Together,” Steve said. “I like the sound of that.”
