ao3 stans are beyond help. angry the site platforms stories about violently assaulting 12 year olds? you hate sex, women, freedom of speech and america. ask why tf they're still doing twice-yearly fundraisers with almost $3M in the bank? mind your business nosy. point out people and groups who need that $ for food and shelter and medicine? you're a guilt-tripping asshole. condemn the endemic racism of the otw staff? you're blowing it out of proportion, & besides people find racism sexy so how dare you kinkshame. say that otw is also run by Zionist sympathizers who fired a volunteer for supporting Palestine? nobody's perfect!!! atp anyone still donating is either stupid or evil

😐 I mean you said it all lmao. Like i have no grounds to judge anyone for still using AO3, bc I still use it. Unfortunately it's the only place where people see my works, and where I can find community to share. Squidgeworld do NOT be going (though I read my own stuff on there often!)

But donating to me is beyond the pale, especially given the current climate of both the OTW and the planet. AO3 didn't need it. I can't remember the exact numbers, but if they got like 3mill surplus in the bank and need 50k to run the servers and pay people... 3mil divided by 50k is a decent amount of money to use for a good amount of time. Or, if it's that deep, shut down the fundraiser when it hits the requisite 50k.

Idk, just SOMETHING about it seems sinister to me this go round, given I keep seeing people beg for their literal lives daily and people being the vilest of racists to them... Just to turn around and say "but I'll donate unnecessary money to AO3". Just cruel. Like how can you demand a Palestinian or Sudani prove they're starving to death but be okay still donating "even if AO3 could be money laundering". And y'all judge billionaires like Elon for being on the same type bullshit? Baffles me.
