🎤 Lando's Sky Sports interview after the race in Suzuka:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lando: I'm super happy with today, probably happiest with my start. My starts have not been the best, so I've been working quite a bit on trying to improve them. They've not been losing me positions, but I've just not been gaining, and they've not been that strong. And we worked quite a bit this weekend on trying to make them better, and even over the last few months to try and improve them. And today was probably my best start that I've ever had, so...
I almost had Max (smiles), not far away, and it would have been nice if I could get ahead. But other than that, everything was perfect. The pit stops too, very, very strong pit stops. Good strategy, very good pace, you know, I was quite comfortable ahead of pretty much everyone else.
(Smiling) Not ahead of Max, but he couldn't make that one extra pit stop, which is probably the best thing. It wasn't, like, that easy he could just box and go for quickest lap, which is just a nice thing to be able to do, that he was just, they were under that little bit of pressure that they weren't confident enough to do that.
And that's just showing the progress we're making, and we, maybe, struggled a little bit more in the beginning of the race on the softer tyre, but when we put the hard on, I think we were quite a bit more competitive. Other than that, it was, yeah, very good, yeah (smiles).
Interviewer: We heard you on the radio when they took, the team, swapped the cars around, you wanted to do it a lap early, or it sounded like a lap earlier, I don't know how delayed the radio messages were. And it actually happened, but it wouldn't have ultimately made any difference in the end, would it, to your result today?
Lando: With Oscar?
Interviewer: Yeah.
Lando: No, we were just on two different strategies. And yeah, it was always gonna happen, I think I would have even able to pass, but then it's, you know, I wouldn't wanna ruin his race, and he probably doesn't wanna ruin mine. And at the same time, George is on a different strategy, so it was just the best outcome if we did what we did.
And I had just a small pace advantage over him today, just in terms of getting in the rhythm, keeping the tyres in a good condition. And I lost, like, 8 seconds, or something, behind Perez. He had a problem under the VSC, I'm obviously not allowed to pass under the VSC, but he was going so slow, and then he almost crashed into me, so...
We should have been a lot closer, you know? I think we could've ended up 10, 12 seconds behind Max, instead of, what, 18, 19, which would have been an even better result. So maybe not perfect from that side of things, which was a bit odd, I didn't wanna risk a penalty (smiling), but then the Ferraris were behind me, so then I got a little bit annoyed. But no, everything else was perfect, the team have done such a good job. The progress we've made is incredible, so I'm very happy for everyone.
Interviewer: [Just] a very little last question, is he keeping you on your toes, Oscar?
Lando: (Smiling) Of course. I've said it enough times, but it's obvious enough. He's doing a very, very good job. I'm happy for him, it's his first podium in Formula 1, and that's always a very special feeling for anyone who manages to achieve it.
So he's been doing a good job, I think as a team, we're working extremely well together, we're pushing each other. And yeah, it's what we need at the minute, so congrats to him.
