every now and again i think about how bart curlish was a man in the original pitch for dghda and i become filled with an intense and seething rage the likes of which this world has not yet witnessed

#like i know rationally that her character would’ve remained pretry much the exact same in principle and purpose #but within the context of modern tv and female representation in the media it’s so important she’s a woman #they let her be gross and weird and stupid and have no romantic arc and thats so rare and beautiful #whereas for men being gross and weird and stupid is the expectation rather than a deviation #gender differences are so ingrained in modern media #there’s like a clear understanding that boy do this and girl do that in everything and bart just doesn’t follow that #that’s why she’s important i’m not saying she’s the only one to be a woman in a man’s archetype with no commentary on how subversive it is #or whatever #but i’m saying she’s one of few and that’s definitely part of why her character is so well loved #especially by women and queer folk in the community #anyhoo #dghda #dirk gently’s holistic detective agency
