the joker movies both could have really been something but they either need to get 60% smarter or 10% sillier to work.
#my review of the first joker was that if you changed nothing about the writing#but just cast everyone as drag queens doing elevated performances#then it would honestly be a dark comedy masterpiece. like if it embraced exaggerated absurdity more it would be pretty good#but as it stands now its got so much downright Stupid writing but takes itself soooo seriously its soooo dour.#so youre like ok but that was fucking stupid#and the folie a deux is more exaggerated and absurd but doesnt lean into it quite enough to come together so its#somehow even more stupid but its also a lot more tolerable bc its heightened somewhat#but its not enough to make it good either#avpost#like i imagine arthur fleck as played by divine and the entire thing snaps into place for me.#every stupid ass line delivered like a dreamlander instead of being played serious. it would honestly be something.#movie diary
