“why is timothee’s character in ‘a rainy day in new york’ so underrated?” i don’t know maybe it has something to do with it being a woody allen movie.

My 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020 List
Tumblr media
*Takes a deep breathe*
I can’t believe it’s 2020 and Tumblr does not auto-save posts in progress… I wasted 2 hours a few days ago writing this up. From now on, I will just type everything out on google docs before I copy it over…
It’s the start of a new decade! It’s time to count down my 10 most anticipated movies of the new year. After scouring the list of announced movies though, I did not find many that I was really looking forward to. A contributing factor to this is Marvel’s weakest slate of big blockbuster releases in a long time. With that said, I’m sure I will find many movies unannounced yet or flying under the radar that will be delightful to watch! But let’s begin with what we know:
10. Mulan
Mulan is a movie I am definitely anticipating to see how well or badly it is received. The Disney animated movie worked really well with Mushu’s humor thrown in. Judging from the tone of the trailers so far, it doesn’t seem like Mushu will play a role in this film. If people are hoping to see a more grounded version of the tale, then this might be it. But if you care to see a more authentic one, maybe you should go and watch the old movies based on the tale, where the dialogue is spoken in Mandarin.
9. Eternals
This is another film I’m pessimistically optimistically anticipating. I predicted that Guardians of the Galaxy would be successful because of the concept of a band of misfits banding together to save the universe would be a compelling dynamic to see on screen. The light-hearted humor by most of the gang also played a key role. This is another Marvel movie about characters in the universe that are not that well known. Eternals, in my opinion, will not have the same success. From what I know, the characters in this group have god-like powers; something that is hard to successfully implement into a good film. I’m imagining space opera level dialogue exchanges that can turn dull at time. But if they pull it off, this would get me really excited about the possibility of Norin Radd showing up in the near future of a future Marvel movie!
8. No Time To Die
I have to catch up on the recent Bond films starring Daniel Craig before I go and watch this. The trailer seems interesting enough with Rami Malek serving as the film’s antagonist. And then there’s the reunion between Daniel Craig and Ana de Armas, co-stars of “Knives Out.” There is also the scene in the trailer showing Ana wielding double guns in a sultry dress that is sure to look amazing during the actual movie.
7. In The Heights
Lin-Manuel Miranda. Check.
Musical. Check.
Story set in NYC. Check.
Tony award winner. Check.
The main song used in the trailer sounds incredible! I have a personal affinity with movies that deal with music/adaptations of musicals so this is really up my alley.
6. Deep Water
This is a movie based off of the book of the same name by Patricia Highsmith. From what I’ve heard, it has similar themes to “Gone Girl” which was one of the most thrilling movies about marriage that I’ve seen. I would say it’s no coincidence that Ben Affleck plays the male lead in the movie. Ana de Armas will play his wife in what could become a role that could land her some serious award nominations.
5. Tenet
While I’m not the biggest Nolan fan, I appreciate every film I’ve seen of his. None are terrible efforts. From what I can gather through the trailer, it seems to be a movie that will play with the element of being able to interact with the reversal of time as it happens. John David Washington and Robert Pattison lead in this blockbuster to come.
4. Black Widow
I believe all movies in the Marvel cinematic universe are made for a reason: to play a part in the building up to the ultimate endgame. In this instance, while the movie does take place before the events of Endgame, there should be something from this movie that should carry into the development of something in the future. There is speculation that Yelena Belova might be the one who takes up the mantle of Black Widow in Phase 4 and beyond. The thought of the talented Florence Pugh playing a bigger role in the MCU is exciting. Also, the score used in the trailer sounds soo good!
3. The Old Guard
It’s a film adapted from Greg Rucka’s comic of the same name and it stars Charlize Theron...and it’s about the mercenary dealings of immortal soldiers. In short, this film will rock. I would like to finish reading the comic series before this is out and so should you.
2. West Side Story
I’ve already seen the musical on Broadway and knew of the plot before that experience. What makes this my #2 movie on the list is how Steven Spielberg will add his personal touch to the story. It stars Ansel Elgort as Tony and Rachel Zegler as Maria. I have a good feeling we’re going to hear a lot more from Rachel in the future. Check out her song covers on youtube if you don’t believe me!
1. Dune
Dune is arguably one of the if not the greatest science fiction novel of all time and Denis Villeneuve (director of Arrival and Bladerunner 2049) will try to adapt this epic onto the big screen. The 1984 version didn’t go over too well with the critics of that year, but with the technological advances in film making since then, Denis will have a lot of tools to make this movie as captivating as Arrival and as gorgeous as Bladerunner 2049. The ensemble cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista and Zendaya!
And that’s the list. I can’t wait to check back at the end of the year to see if these movies lived up to their expectations.
