okay so this might sound insane but this is lowkey how some people will talk about charlie br.ooker not gonna lie (very over exaggerated)

i got carried away rambling about this so its under the cut

like “i knew he’d changed for the worse when he said he started running” and “for me it all went downhill in 2012 when he had his first kid and wrote that article about it” are real things ive seen people say completely genuinely and it feels so insane to me. like do you hear yourself… god forbid he loves his son i guess 😭 would you have preferred him to write an article going “i was worried i wasnt gonna be attached to my son and i was RIGHT i HATE KIDS and i’m going to be a TERRIBLE FATHER”?? idc if you think his work has declined in quality over time or whatever you are free to have your opinion just. provide actual reasons and criticisms please?? not just “ugh i liked his stuff better when he hated himself, lived alone and was addicted to smoking” … which reminds me of another thing.

a lot of people* (* a small portion of youtube commenters actually. im just being hyperbolic or whatever lol) complain that the weekly and yearly wipes didnt have the same feeling as og screenwipe, that they werent as bitter and real and so on, yadda yadda, and like… idk maybe im just letting my fannish nature cloud my judgement but. duh?? i mean i think there are parts of that which can be genuine criticisms but at the same time its just a bit silly to me. screenwipe was a product of its time in that part of what made it so compelling and engaging for your average audience was the fact that so much of it was just charlie, alone, ranting to a camera, and he was kind of unsatisfied with his life and kinda freshly out of the whole tvgohome and before era of being bitter and angry at tv and so on and THAT is what coloured the show in such a way that it felt so real. and so of course now that he is generally happier and also has an actual budget and doesnt live alone things will change production-wise and also in terms of the general vibe of things. and maybe that makes the shows less enjoyable in certain ways but like SO BE IT! i think that og screenwipe was the way it was because of the specific circumstances it was made in and it’s just unreasonable to expect more recent stuff to have the same feel. and ultimately i’d rather a creator who has a good life and doesn’t make quite as good television over a creator who’s unhappy and makes especially entertaining television. but thats just me idk. ALSO for the record i dont mean to be like. parasocially projecting emotions onto people here i do NOT claim to know anything about charlie’s actual mental state and everything i say is purely going off of what i’ve observed in interviews, articles, etc. and what he himself has said in reference to certain periods of time
