It Began With A Tart
Note: this was sitting in my drafts for while so why not post it years later 😏 but like prince! Tim Drake.. brain going burrrrr....
The kingdom of Drake was known for many things. Kindness was not one of them. Many years of invasions and taking over territory created a reputation. Though as the lineage went on a gracious queen and king were blessed with a kind child.
Tim Drake. Tim drake was a curious child. Curiosity sometimes finding him in daunting situations. His parents occupied with the kingdom’s duties, left Tim to acquire his own hobbies which was exploring the kingdom he'd later inherit.
Tim's hooded figure followed the sweet scent of tart. The scent leading him to your mother’s bakery.  It was a simple bakery, yet it held all the aromas of a comforting home. Cream colored trimmings hung on the window panes, the most vibrant cakes and fruits on display. The sweetest smells vacaying his senses yet the bakery was empty. Feeling he was safe, Tim slowly lowered his hood.
"Hello there? What would you like today?" Your voice cut Tim from his long stare at your face. It was the second thing he noticed when he walked in, not moving his gaze since. An awkward smile graced your lips, shifting uncomfortably you gestured towards the baked goods on the counter.
Averting his gaze, Tim pointed towards the baked good encased in glass.
"May I have some strawberry tart?" You only nodded, grabbing his tart with a napkin. Tim shuffled in his pocket searching for the four gold coins that his mother gave him earlier.
"I hope this will be enough." Your eyes nearly bulged at the sight of the gold coins. Your eyebrow furrowed, "I can't take this?"
" is it not enough?" Tim was genuinely confused. He wasn’t used to currency. As anything he wanted was brought to him as soon as it lefted his lips.
"It's way more than enough." Your statement sounded more like a question. You assumed this boy that stood in front of you was foreign to the Lands of Drake. 4 gold coins was worth more than your entire wage for the next year. No commoner would ever have their hands on one.
Your suspicion rose as you observed his clothing. His button up seemed to be made of silk. Pants too pressed and neat to be one of a commoner. The cape that sat on his shoulders was tethered at the neck with a gold tassel. Even his face looked like as if craved out of clay. He definitely didn't belong to the commoners. Who exactly was this boy?
"Well, maybe you can make it up to me." Tim's head tilted in question at his sudden confidence.
"How so?" You began to clean your apron, covered in flour.
"Walk with me." Tim began to turn towards the door, forgetting the hood that was rested on his back.
Humming, you followed his lead, knowing the bakery was going to be taken care off, considering the amount of workers there were today and the lack of customers. Taking the apron off, you walked around the counter. Unaware of the flour that sat on your cheek. Tim reached for it.
"Sorry- you just had flour right here." Your face began to warm as his soft finger touched your face.
"Let's began, shall we?" Placing the small bag that held his tart in his pocket. Tim glanced in your direction every so often.
"If you don't mind me asking, where are you from?" You broke the silence, as you both began walking near the center of the village.
"Somewhere not too far from here." Tim left it at that. Nodding your head you caught on that his origins were going to be hidden from you.
"Your name?" Tim finally spoke calmly. But the truth was his heart was beating a mile a minute.
 "Y/n. Yours?"
 "Just Tim."
"So Tim, what made you invite me for a walk?" A small smile grew on Tim's lips at the sound of his name on your lips.
"Well-" He was cut off by a herd of horse footsteps and a shout.
 "Prince!?"
"Run." Tim quickly grabbed your palm pulling you towards a forest he knew like the back of his hand.
"Prince?" Was the first word you sputtered as soon as you caught your breath. It all began to click and now you considered that the two gold coins were not enough for the next of events.
