The deeper I get into this fic, the more obsessed I become with Gwaren and the sadder I am that we never got to see it in a game and probably never will.
It's got everything! A lonely, rocky coastline on a sea where no one knows what's on the other side! A haunted forest! A very old dwarven-built castle! An even older dwarven outpost underground that's been lost to darkspawn! Abandoned salt mines! Winding cobblestone streets and brick-and-plaster buildings! Only accessible by sea or by a dangerous trail through the forest! It's one of the most important holdings in Ferelden yet it's not even a city, just a remote port town full of fishermen and lumberjacks. It was a critical location in the rebellion against the Orlesians. Just. The history! The atmosphere. Gwaren!!! I'm in love.

tarot asks! espen: chariot, star, judgement. and surprise ask for felix cousland, whomst I am still very fond of: hanged man in reverse and the world in reverse
espen danlys
the chariot - What goal is your character determined to reach?
you might think I would say “institute a fantasy geneva convention,” but that is so far in the future that she cannot actively think about it at the moment—if you’re looking too far ahead, you’ll be unprepared for the dangers directly in front of you. the primary goal now is “get everyone back in one piece from marquet and the netherdeep.” she did it in the rise, and by the luxon she’s determined to do it again
the star - When has your character been most hopeful?
when tarsenna and elexi tag-teamed to forcibly befriend her in the very first week of watch basic training. espen was an extremely lonely kid: she didn’t have siblings and moved away from her parents into residential school for clerical and wizardry training as an elf pre-teen. she didn’t make friends during her time as an acolyte or at the conservatory because she was quite ostracized by her peers for her luxonmark. few people were outright mean to her, but nobody really wanted to hang out with the kid whose face was an omen of hard times to come
tarsenna and elexi, total strangers to her at the time, perceiving something in her that was likable and worthwhile gave espen hope and gratitude like she hadn’t ever felt before
judgment is answered here!
felix cousland
the hanged man reversed - When has your character tried to avoid making a major decision?
felix really dragged his feet when deciding whether to back aeducan or harrowmont—he didn’t have enough cultural context or information, and felt very uncomfortable even after finally making a choice
outside of canon quest lines, and maybe not a decision in the active sense, felix also didn’t confront his own sexuality until he was in an arranged engagement and desperately miserable for it. there was ultimately no resolution, as howe’s attack on highever happened before he got up the courage to talk to his godparents about it
the world reversed - What is your character holding back?
fear. fear of the taint, fear of his own anger, fear of losing more than he already has. fear that he has never once made the right choice. fear of never living up to what eleanor and bryce thought he could be
