#like even IF the script was the videomaker's own script. the fact that i went 'hmm. this doesn't feel genuine or personal' is damning

ok finished that video. and aside from being annoyed that he just played the first like 3 minutes of Jazz Ass by Shifty 3 separate times in the 20 minute video. I decided to list a bunch of reasons why videos that are just Reading the History of a Subject (ala High School presentations) suck:

Dry as hell. No personality in the script kills interest so easily

Insanely easy to replicate. Just look up articles from other people that care about the subject

Even if you didn't just copy somebody else's script, or even if you actually fully wrote it yourself (and just used scripts as references), it's still gonna read like a bland retelling of the history of the subject

As much as modern social media sucks and is trying to de-emphasize personal opinions and subjectivity (lest you be quote-retweeted to death), a big pull of videos of any kind is the person behind them.

It's the difference between looking up a theme park ride on wikipedia, and watching a video by Defunctland about it. You need to show that you care about the subject and WANT to talk about it
