i don’t think people realize how much ascribing to notions of bruce being abusive—which are largely a product of white male writers projecting their weird macho militant complexes onto the character—and insensitive to the concerns of his wards and children skews how those wards and children are interpreted in fanon at large

#bruce wayne #dc #mine:media analysis #like. idk i know it can be hard to ignore bc there are quite a few writers who revel in portraying bruce as an abusive drill sergeant #but it’s like. it’s not every single writer?#and esp in older comics he Has been shown to care about his wards #and to react nonideally out of fear for their lives #as opposed to bc he’s angry with them for not performing optimally #like idk i feel like people think that bc they’re still reading comics to this day #that they need to just accept whatever is put out and it’s like no you don’t lmao 😭#idc for portrayals of bruce as abusive at all personally it’s uninventive #and it’s so clearly a reflection of writers who are ex military or alt right #and would probably be like ‘my parents hit me but i turned out just fine!’#like it’s dumb as shit and i’m not going to entertain the idea why waste my time on something like that?#esp when it so severely skews the existing relationships bruce has with his wards and children #like yes the relationships are hardly perfect but the way a lot of people act #like bruce is a total insensitive asshole who doesn’t care and who drives his kids away is bizarre #like he literally cares too much 😭#why else would he be so insistent upon working alone at first or in more dire cases #or why else would his response to his partners being severely hurt be to FIRE them #bc he’s scared for their lives lmao!#like not saying it’s an ideal response hardly so #and he needs to work on his communication skills #but it’s still a response borne out of his compassion and fear for their lives #and i Hate that modern comics have diverged from that portrayal to the point that people act like bruce and his kids being on good terms #is an impossible thing #it’s just boring and lazy
