while i get some of the disappointment wrt the last tf2 comic i feel like its severely misjudging whht valve is which is:
billion dollar corp with a particularly bad structure for lorekeeping
has never put story before gameplay, retcons are not rare in valve games bc to them its secondary
the amount of resources valve is willing to put in a game thats on maintenance mode
if anything the comic is valves way to communicate theyre done with the game, they wont kill it but theyre focusing on newer projects
#like as a tf2 fan who only got steam to play tf2 sure it sucks#but it was never going to live up to expectations bc of the reasons listed#if anything. you should take the comic as a lease on doing whatever you want with the world of tf2 and its characters#and always remember. most media writers are never more than 5 minutes away from 5$ avocado toast. though adjusted itd be closer to 10$#goopy.txt

this is embarrassing so im on anon but as someone who is also currently obsessed with tf2 despite never playing it. what are your opinions on those guys. i am very interested
NICE this is content i love to see!! Sorry if you dont see this post itās probably been sitting in my inbox for a week, but iāll tag it, so who knows?
This will mostly be about character in the comics, but Iāll throw in who i like to play as well
Scout: he gives off annoying little sibling energy. very entertaining and funny, he talks non-stop in the comics. his daddy issues go deep and itās probably good that he doesnāt know HOW deep. Before most matches start i pick scout and run around the map, hitting as many people with the fish as I can. 6/10 cool boy
Pyro: baby. I do wish they had more of a personality besides āobsessed with fire and doesnāt live in realityā, but pyrovision is a very fun concept and makes this guy both loveable and TERRIFYING. Pyro is my second most played, because who doesnāt love not aiming and causing extreme carnage? 7/10 chaotic being
Soldier: OK HONESTLY? MY FAVORITE CHARACTER FROM THE COMICS. this poor, lead poisoned, brain dead, psychopath. only blood lust and patriotism consume the mind of this man, but there really isnt much space up there anyway. his stupidity and knack for pissing off literally anyone is fantastic. also, he ends up dating heavyās sister zhanna and they have a FANTASTIC dynamic (ok, she actually might be my favorite but soldier is close). I donāt play him that much, but rocket jumping is hella fun. 10/10 GOOD HUSTLE, SOLDIER!
Demoman: Underappiciated and under utilized in fan content! I think he has one of the best origin stories. Heās realatively sane for TF2 mercs, and would probably be all the way there if it wasnt for his nasty drinking habit. Thereās also a comic where a soldier and demoman on opposite teams become friends and that is such a good one. Valve definitely could have done better on having more characters who arenāt white, but im glad we at least got Tavish! I suck at demoman but iām trying to play him more to get better. Kinda surprising since junkrat was my 2nd most played in overwatch. 8/10 "Oh, they're goin' ta have to glue you back together...IN HELL!"
Heavy: Due to his appearance in the telltale poker night game, this guy probably has the most complete characterization. Somewhere between a gentle giant and crazy russian, heās a family man with a doctorate in russian literature and a strong attachment to Sascha, his favorite gun. He doesnāt say much, but he usually says the right thing. God bless him for putting up with the rest of the team, because if he didnāt, theyād all be goners. Heavy playstyle just isnt fun for me so i rarely pick him. 8/10 Legendary Comrade
Engineer: I feel like we hear the least about this dudeās personality in the comics. Heās a genius engineer in a family of genius engineers. His grandfather created a life extending machine (thats kinda important to the comics) that he later upgraded. Dude literally has 12 Phds. I enjoy his general laid-back texan demeanor. I feel like heād be really fun at parties for some reason. Iāve been playing engineer way more recently and a lot of his voice lines are sarcastic and a bit goofy. 7/10 texas sized yee haw.
Sniper: someone give this man a fucking break. please. my god. the most mentally there of the team, doesnāt seem absorbed with killing, but does enjoy the challange and competition of sniping. has a bit of an identity crisis (in the form of his superman-esque origin story) which is quickly resolved. probably would be the most pleasant of these guys to meet in real life. i only play sniper on the 2 Fort map and I have never gotten a headshot. ever. 6/10 great shot, mate.
Medic: MY MAN LUDWIG! My favorite character before reading the comics. Iād say heās a fucked up doctor, but thats only the half of it. He isnt even a doctor anymore (its hard to keep a medical license after removing someoneās entire skeleton). For a dude who stole all of his friendās souls and literally outsmarted devil... heās not THAT bad. I mean, sure he abandoned his team to fight against them just so he could commit more atrocities against nature. Sure, he only has an evil smile and demented laugh. But uh... he is... nice to his doves? Yeah ok nevermind I cant really defend this guy. Being a little evil is... kinda sexy though (look up medic cosmetic āThe Burly Beastā). In game, my medigun is named āPress E To Send Me To Therapyā. E is the call for medic button. I am a medic main and I am so, so tired. 10/10 āZHAT was doctor assisted homocide!ā
Spy: french asshole. seems pretencious and unattached but he really isnt. actions speak louder than words spy, and even if you had to tell scout you were his father disguised as tom jones, at least you did it. if i play spy i get overly excited at backstabbing someone because i suck at it. 6/10 oui oui effle tower baguette i love making fun of the french
not sure if this is what you wanted anon but i had fun typing these! if you ever get steam, hereās a link to my profile https://s.team/p/kpv-bvtv/JPDMQRWV tf2 is basically the only game I play on steam so Iāll probably be doing that š

catherineās super sick top 5 games of 2016 list: ultimate edition
1. Overwatch there isnāt much to say about overwatch that hasnāt already been said. itās a blizzard game, itās tf2 but fun, itās absurdly gayer than anyone expected it to be, itās a phenomenal multiplayer game that actually got me, PvP Hater Catherine, to play a game based entirely around fighting other actual people. itās just Fun, and boy did we need some general good-time Fun this year. bonus points for introducing me to pharmercy, the ship that made me a dumbass shipper. god blizzard donāt make mercy fuck genji iām going to be unbelievably mad.
2. DOOM (2016) anyone who has known me for more than two minutes knows how important DOOM is to me (basically, any installment that isnāt 3); i was literally playing doom 2 seconds before settling in to write this post. doom 2 is my favorite game of all time and itās impossible to fathom anything that would ever dethrone it. bethesdaās absurd focus on displaying only the garbage multiplayer in the months leading up to release of DOOM 2016 made me extremely wary about how the game was actually going to play, but then the campaign proved to be a thousand times more enjoyable than anyone thought. they truly captured the balls to the wall, stop and youāre dead feel of the original games while updating it, making it modern, making it look amazing and made sure all the guns felt great to use. they gave doomguy actual characterization without having him say a single word, the hell environments were cool as shit, i even loved the bossfights. what a great fucking game. pity about snapmap; the only reason iām not playing more of it is because the modding tools are basically nonexistent. unfortunate.Ā
3. Obduction again, a followup to one of my other Fave Games Of All Time; Obduction is a spiritual successor to classic adventure game Myst made by the exact same people, and boy does it ever show; Myst 1-4 were all great games but it was the first one that truly captured my imagination and gave me a love of exploration, so all i really wanted out of Obduction was to regain that feeling of exploring a foreign, empty world while solving puzzles, and boy did it ever deliver in spades. itās a beautiful game with an intriguing story and supremely great voice acting, the puzzles are difficult without beingĀ āgo look up a walkthrough, fuckerā the way Rivenās were, the world is huge and intricate and god i loved this game. i hope Cyan sticks around to make more games like this.
4. Fire Emblem: Fates iām not generally a tactics fan; my brain doesnāt work in that particular way, i always get focused on one or two units and fail to see the big picture and utilize a proper, grand strategy. thankfully, FE: Fates accommodates for people like me with casual mode, and iām glad i gave the game a try; it rapidly sucked me in, made me love the characters despite the pisspoor overall plot, and made a tactics game truly Fun for me. i love that they tried to make most of the fights unique and gimmicky, forced me to keep using different characters in different ways, and the basebuilding aspect was simplistic but appealing. iām also glad they let you be gay, even if it does lock you out of the avatarās kid, but whatever; you know i sure as fuck married rhajat anyway.
5. Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma dark horse candidate, to be honest; i had never played any of the other Zero Escape games before this, so it was probably a bad idea to make the last game in the trilogy my first one. that said, i picked it up on a whim after watching my boyfriend play the first five minutes, and itās an ultra good thing i did, because holy fuck iāve rarely been quite so sucked into the twists and turns of such an absurd plot before (absurd in the good way, in case thatās unclear). the graphics were, uh, awkward at best, the voice acting middling, but the character writing and the overall ouroboros of a plot was super fucking cool and kept me literally on the edge of my seat for the two days it took me to play through. even without the background of the prior games, it was a phenomenal experience, and iām mega hype for the remakes of the previous games to hurry up and release on steam so i can play them.
if other people would like to join me in writing a bunch of words about videogames i highly recommend you do so, itās a fun thing
