A Reminder For RPers

Since this update has many people upset and stressed out, and I have started to see some unpleasant things happening because of it, I wanted to post a reminder to not use it as an excuse to be a toxic person. A great many of us, especially in the roleplay community are upset and dislike this new update, and we didn’t want it either. But being upset is not an excuse to take your frustrations out on your friends, or RP partners. 

Please remember that many of us suffer from issues like depression and anxiety, not to mention all the stressful events happening in RL, and while this completely awful update may tempt some people to lash out, please keep in mind that you are not the only person who is stressed and upset. I have already seen posts saying that the xKit team is working on making tumblr usable for us by updating and fixing their extensions and giving us new ones, so hopefully we will have things back to functioning how we like them soon.

In the mean time, please don’t bully or guilt trip your friends or RP partners, and still be mindful of others. Your feelings are valid, and it is alright to be upset about it, or about other things, but in such a stressful time, with everything going on in RL please please please do not make your friends feel like shit. Roleplay is something many of use to help combat our depression, and anxiety, and some of us have health issues that make things difficult for us. We need to be able to relax and RP as we want to, and with who we see fit. No one has the right to tell anyone who they can and cannot RP with, or guilt others for not doing enough. 

If you want to RP with someone more, ask them. Start things. Send them memes or tag them in starters. But do not. DO NOT guilt people or bully them, or try to make them feel bad for not doing enough for you. Do not lash out at others because you are stressed. Some days, people just don’t have the energy or the mental or emotional capacity to deal with things. Some people don’t have that on ANY day due to health issues, or depression, or general life related things. Sometimes our muses literally will ONLY reply to certain threads, and if we try to force them to reply to something else, they shut down. Muses have a mind of their own, and we cannot force them anymore than we can force another person to do anything they don’t want to. If you have a legitimate problem with someone, or want them to do better, talk politely with them about it. There is enough toxicity in the roleplay community in general without it being added to because of this update. If anything, we need to be MORE supportive right now, and mindful of others.

That said, please do your best to have fun, and take care of yourselves. Drink water, eat a snack, take your meds if you need to, and happy roleplaying.

Can you post your works as photo instead of text, please? Posting as text/through a text post messes up auto-tagging, it won’t look good with a lot of blog themes, on the dash it will also push a url on top of the image, and if there’s more than one image, there’s a giant gap between them compared to when you post as photo. It’ll look so much better if you post images as photos instead of through the text field. You need to be on desktop dash for this. No need to publish if you don’t want to.

Bro, we got ourselves a mess of a situation, I'll be honest with you, and I don't think I'm able to solve it. I tried to recreate all of these issues on sideblogs with mixed results. There's a good chance xkit (I'm assuming you use xkit to auto tag) and/or tumblr are just borked. If this is specifically about a gifset from 9x11, I'm aware it's messed up, I don't know why, and I can't fix it without deleting it :( sorry.

Auto tagging: I turned on Auto Tagger in xkit to test this. Every post on my dash right now is being auto tagged as a text post. I uploaded a single gif as a photo post, and it too is being auto tagged as a text post. I don't typically use Auto Tagger so maybe this is user error; however, I went looking through the xkit discord, and it seems like the idea of a post type, as it relates to Auto Tagger, isn't really a thing anymore. Additionally, the xkit rewritten repo lists Auto Tagger as an extension they're not planning to implement with tumblr's revamped site. Curious to hear if Auto Tagger is working on other people's posts but not mine.

Blog theme: I don't mean to be a dick, but if it doesn't look good on your blog theme, it may be a problem with your blog theme.

Dash behavior: This one is puzzling to me. Every reblog on my dash right now has a URL at the top of it. The single gif I posted specifically as a photo post, and then reblogged, has a URL at the top of it. I posted a series of 4 gifs, first as a photo set specifically and then as a text post, and they both appeared the same on my dash with the same spacing between images. However, I will say that another blog I follow has been having issues with their photo posts; reblogs appear out of order on desktop but correctly in mobile. Reordered images, at least, is an issue with tumblr.

All this being said, I do always start gifsets as photo posts. However, in the process of finalizing a post, I sometimes delete and re-upload gifs, which may be causing the problem for you, which I cannot recreate. I will say that when I inspected the code of my theme, I noticed that some gifsets were categorized by tumblr as text posts and some as photo posts, despite the fact that I start everything as photo posts. Regardless, this doesn't appear to make a difference on the dash. I will keep an eye out as I upload gifs, but otherwise I don't have a solution for you.

I can’t believe I had to stay away from Tumblr all day! I had problems with my computer, and I just don’t like using the mobile app anymore: I got used to the new xkit and quick tags.

I also wasn’t able to make any gifs from the latest episode or for celebrating Dean’s birthday. (Not going to lie, the second one hurts a bit. I was so looking forward to it. Guess I’m paying the price of not being prepared.) I haven’t reblogged anything either.

The problem with my computer is fixed now, but it’s daunting to know that there are so many posts for me to go through, and I just can’t do it right now. And I promised my family I would spend tomorrow with them.

So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m not ignoring here, but I have to take a very brief break from Tumblr. I will come back with full force on Sunday though.

Felt like making a post since I've gained quite a lot of new followers on this blog (as well as on my main, most people being the same on both), as well as lots of reblogs which is GREAT too since the fandom here is already way too tiny!!! And I'm aware that I haven't been too active on this side of Tumblr in a long time.

I haven't had the queue running since the last spring, simply because I started to run out of blog to reblog from. I feel like I have already had everything in my blog, and I keep finding older blog and reblogging from those has its own problems. At least when I last time added stuff to my queue and drafts, I had to use the old XKit for adding stuff directly from blogs because using the regular system is nerve-racking. On top of all that, reblogging old posts means the HTML code of those posts looks different from recent posts, which is why adding tags, also, got extremely frustrating. I use quick tags and tag bundles exactly for the reason that I don't need to type every single tag there myself, and that I don't need to open every single post individually for adding tags. Well guess what - old posts did not support the quick tags anymore. It just kept saying there was an error, and I had to type everything down myself. Often several times. (And not tagging just is not an option for me!) Plus, Tumblr often likes/liked (not sure if it's already fixed) to refresh the queue/draft page so that it got just pain in the add to click and edit individual posts only to scroll down the drafts/queue every single time, and then do that like. 70 times in a row. Which is far from fun.

Adding stuff to queue just got too overwhelming. Tumblr freezing my browser when opening several tabs of a blog at once. Then quick tags and tag bundles stopped working and posts breaking because the old HTML code doesn't match the current HTML code. And the queue/drafts refreshing itself every single time cos you can't use quick tags.

But I feel like I need to start going through blogs again. I feel like I owe that to my old as well as new followers. Hopefully adding stuff to the queue won't be as enraging as it used to be. At some point even the beta editor changed somehow and I had to use the old one because in the new one you no longer could arrange images so making gifsets or photosets was impossible. And you can't arrange them in the old one either, unless you open it on the app, but where you sometimes still can't arrange them because the desktop code doesn't match the mobile code. And if you can open them on mobile, then you might not be able to open them on the desktop anymore cos Tumblr says it was created on the app. Besides, this web beta editor still doesn't work perfectly. I wonder if it ever will.

The last issue then is of course: the like-reblog ratios. This is not Instagram. If you only like and never reblog anything, you can be sure that I will block you in an instant. ESPECIALLY if you don't have a blog title and use the default icons. Then I will assume you're either a bot, or "spying us for (dä) content" which is not acceptable, at least not in my eyes. Go make your own content and don't steal what others have worked on hard, sometimes for hours. Which leads us back to like-reblog ratio: reblog art, please. And reblog creations. Reblogging IS NOT reposting, and reblogging is very very very much encouraged! (If you're new to Tumblr, it's that arrows symbol that looks like recycling symbol.) So please please please, reblog creations! Our tiny fandom is already tiny enough so when everyone's here just watching and not sharing and interacting (by reblogging! writing stuff in the tags!), I assure you that the Tumblr fandom WILL die out eventually. In fact it used to be way more active before, and it's been horribly inactive over the past 2-3 years. Also I used to post my art, edits, memes and videos here but recently gave up on that because there's just no interaction whatsoever anymore. So I don't see any point in sharing MY content to others if others don't care to look at it. So, I'm creating for myself and also keeping it all to myself, then. Maybe sharing it to some friends + my Instagram followers since IG seems to treat artists a bit better than Tumblr.

Alright, I guess that's enough. I'll try to get back to keeping this blog active, but finding "new" content is so hard nowadays, and I already explained the problems with the older posts. (I also started school a month ago so that will take some of my time, but I'm still spending time on Tumblr as if my life depended on it so it hasn't affected my Tumblr time that much yet.)

interesting. My XKit has just not been able to update for several days - I’m on Windows and Firefox - I’m just kinda hoping they’ll solve it themselves. Also Tumblr has always made my laptop hot when I scroll through.

Hmm, that’s comforting to know in a way (though frustrating!) but at least I’m not the only one who’s having problems. I wonder if the last update was just kinda buggy and they’ll fix it in the next one.

And yeah, it used to run hot on my old laptop, too. One of the things I really liked about getting a new one is that I didn’t have that problem anymore! Until the last few days.
