OUAT rewatch: 1x08 - Desperate Souls
Siiiigh these two were done so dirty by this show.
Him intentionally ignoring her and then being annoyed by her presence. He's such an asshole but I love it.
Rumple: Well, he’s been gone two weeks, now.
Back when the timeline moved.
Henry: Good loses -- good always loses. Because good has to play fair.
Regina's acting really has improved. And I'm sorry Regina but you killed him. You don't get to be upset by his death.
Poor MM. She's probably like "My life was so quiet and normal before Emma moved in. My appliances were safe. My flowers were safe."
At least Emma's sort of adorable as a pissed off toaster-breaking child.
Mary Margaret is so good at taking hints.
I kind of love that Rumples way of defeating Regina is his extensive knowledge of the law.
Regina: Oh, Miss Swan, this is not appropriate.
The mom voice.
Bobby is so fantastic.
They're so cordial until she closes the door.
Mr. Gold: Shall I move some things? Make a bit of space for your rage?
LOL favorite line ever
I also love her turning the open sign as he says this.
I love that she just knows Rumple was the one to lead Emma on.
The ongoing back-and-forth in every line between these two is so fun to watch. How they both know the truth but won't admit it so they dance around each other and play these little word games even though they both know the other is awake. The continue the little game because they know it won’t benefit either of them either way to know be upfront. Ignorance is easier than whatever team they’d have with each other.
This was not cool Regina. I find it sort of ironic though that everything Regina does is pushing Emma and Henry closer because she’s getting all of Emma’s dark secrets out of the way so that there aren’t any lies between them. Trying to screw Emma over is actually accidentally helping her despite the fact she wouldn’t have been any more honest with him than Regina was about her secrets.
Henry: Mr. Gold? He’s even worse than she is.
Regina’s going about this in all the wrong ways and not thinking of Henry's happiness and mental well-being. However from Regina's mindset as someone who demises hope and secrets, it's certainly a realistic character flaw. Shes pulling on threads she's had pulled on herself and doing some shitty stuff here because of her own personal experiences. It’s the wrong thing to do of course but it’s got fascinating logic behind it now that we know her whole story.
This plan would have backfired (no pun intended) horribly if it was Emma who opened that door and hurt her leg.
Bae is such a good young man. He just found out his father's been lying to him his whole life and he just brushes it off and does what he can to help him. Honestly fuck the later season interpretations of this character. THIS is the Bae I know and love and accept as my own
Stressed™
Regina: She’s the competition, you fool.
Lana I love you.
Mr. Gold: Loads of visitors today. Do hope you’re not going to break my little bell.
And you Bobby.
Emma: If I’m not a hero and I’m not the savior, then what part do I have in his life?
And that's precisely the problem this relationship faces after this point. That's all Emma ends up being in his life. She’s the savior, she’s the hero, and then she’s kind of, sort of mom. They don't write the relationship honestly or with any meat and it ends up just being hero worship with a fancy title. Emma and Henry’s relationship only manages to develop as much as they do in season 1 because there are forces involved in making them face the hard stuff, but it’s smooth sailing afterwards. Aside from a minor blip with Neal, nothing about their relationship is hard or worked on despite there being underlying issues that needed addressing. They’re brushed off or swept under the rug.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am more than grateful that they geared the story toward Regina and Henry’s relationship after this and gave them the hard, built up story, but I do think it would have been easier to swallow the idea of Emma also being part of his life if motherhood wasn’t handed to her on a silver platter while we watched Regina struggle her way through getting even a semblance of the same treatment.
I’ll always be damn grateful that Regina and Henry got the hard path.
Regina is such a pageant mom. She must have embarrassed the hell out of Henry when he was little.
Regina, do try to hide your smugness, dear.
Ruby bringing Henry a glass of milk when he walks in. I love how much everyone in town adores this kid and takes care of him. Golden boy of the town.
Regina: I thought I might find you here. With a drink... and my son.
That line, delivery and shared look between her and Henry gets me every time.
Regina: You didn’t pick a great friend in Mr. Gold, Miss Swan, but he does make a superlative enemy. Enjoy that.
lmao! Regina you're just happy he has someone else to manipulate.
I love that Emma won through doing what was right... and yet the people stood behind her because they just wanted to see Mr. Gold fail.
