#I’m relistening to the last episode at work (mistake because it makes me sob)#and it’s insane how deep this series went into my brain #in ways I don’t remember even!!#like Ashley came about because I loved the way Brennan embodied Asmodeus #and wanted a villain with that energy on a human level #and then the Somnovem are foils to the ring of brass #there’s just an extra three of them #cal/quay #Tacitus/Portia #Nydas/Claudia #Laerryn/Augusta #Cerrit and Zerxus both share custody of Val #fun fact! cal was originally a paladin!#but I didn’t like having a character foil that close to Zerxus when Zerxus is part of the narrative #and I didn’t think the Somnovem would want a paladin even a faithless one on their team #and I loved the idea of Ira being a dragon #so valerius is a draconic sorcerer #you can’t deny high noon #my writing #life in the margins of redemption
