If you have an iPhone or iPad that uses a lightning charger and you suddenly can't plug the charger into the port, or the device can't charge, check the port very closely before going on to other troubleshooting. You should always make sure your port is clean and use a known-good charger to test, aka a charger you know works on other devices, but I'm going to have you look for one specific thing first:
It's possible a small metal piece came off the tip of the lightning charger and got stuck in the port. It's shaped kind of like an angular U, but flatter, as in the middle flat area is longer than the parts that point up at a 90-degree angle, one on the left and one on the right. If so, a pair of electrostatic-discharge-safe tweezers, aka ESD-safe tweezers, and possibly a magnifying glass will solve your problem
