Lightlament my beloved for the ship bingo? I love your ghost yuri lightlament SM id love to hear ur other thoughts...
Tumblr media
UH OK if im being honest i dont think ive actually read that much stuff with them together explicitly? like from what i can remember I've read In His Own Image and Peanut Butter Cookies (and Yesterday if that counts) so I feel like I'm not an expert or anything HOWEVER I do very much enjoy them. I used to not have very strong feelings on them but I've warmed up to them a lot and they have entered my Brain Space. and i. think the fan content absolutely had something to do with it (ESPECIALLY YOURS YOU HAVE REALLY GOOD THOUGHTS ON THEM DFJSHFSDFSDA) i mean like, it's this esoteric divine scientist woman who's destined to be the last one on earth or the second coming or some shit x just some dorky guy. they're stupidly sweet, they look very pretty together, its tragic, it feels very gay despite being a mf ship, its just all around a solid pairing. plus i think making the ghost au versions genuinely made me like them more as a whole lol (also oops the existence of the ghosts au has breached containment) if you've got article/fic recs id love to look at them! :-3

dr light (smiles normally
smiles back at you equally normally. holly you know like half of my light thoughts already and the other half is straight up stolen from you but i appreciate the opportunity to formally put them on here
fav thing: HER LORE IS SO SO WILD sophia my love what is going on with you. Like. She accidentally killed several military personnel while working in an infectious disease lab and that was BEFORE her recruitment. Shes destined to be the the once and future O5-2, sole survivor of any timeline. She is her universes equivalent of jesus of nazareth. She is full of bees. Her ex-fiancee is Nobody but she forgot abt her bc she fell into the river lethe. What. What.
least fav thing: None of these concepts are ever properly elaborated on on the wiki, her resurrection incarnation which is probably still my fav version of her is more just this fairly ordinary woman somewhat critical of the foundations methods trying to make it within a system where everyone is expecting her to fail and its... still interesting but we have to get weirder with it. Have her be full of bees all the while also.
favorite line: I had this realization about myself, too. I think I want to be an Overseer.
brOTP: her and Vaux i love how unabashedly comfortable she is around him. Light is so stressed in all her tales always and whenever he appears hes such a calming presence, i think she would literally start melting at her desk without him to check in on her every once in a while
OTP: Ohh i have so many lightlament thoughts i love how much they come off as two people who care about each other so much but are both (especially light) too functionally-minded to properly be together. I don't like. ship them ship them my ideal lightlament endgame is them never properly getting to have that because theres never time for it but its such an implicitly sad romantic dynamic in how unremarkable it is.
nOTP: /
random headcanon: alright this is so out there and not fully formed at all but I think shes quite literally an incarnation of Sophia as in Sophia the lower deity from gnosticism, either in a literal or metaphorical sense, and is ultimately doomed to fall to her own hubris in much the same way. Alpha-9 is not going to go well and light will absolutely take the fall for it.
unpopular opinion: /
song: /
fav pic: adore that one really cryptic picture i her personnel file. my fav fanart is this one women who have absolutely nothing wrong with them whatsoever

asking you about your lightlament headcanons !!!
Hello hi uuuuuuh… Not sure where to start but I think I might as well start with what I see them identity wise since it IS pride month !! (and the art I'm currently working on that's making me think of them is related to that heheoo)
Starting with Lament he's so like. Distinctly a trans man that only likes women but to call him straight about it would be wrong, yknow? Like despite not really being a woman in almost any sort of sense whatsoever he manages to still be really queer about his attraction to women. May even say he's lesbian about it but I don't think he'd call himself a lesbian. I think he also just really really likes Light and if she somehow suddenly turned into a man he'd be like welp! Guess I like men now! Because as much as he LOVES women he also just loves Light and her gender isn't as important as that
For Light it gets a little bit interesting if only because I keep thinking about her too hard and sometimes accidentally projecting onto her… Oops! But I see her as intersex and transfem in the sense where she wasn't necessarily distinctly entirely masculine looking growing up, like more just kinda androgynes but still assigned male, but when she started to get some feminine characteristics due to being intersex she just kinda decided she liked that a bit more in terms of presentation and decided to transition. I don't think she really talks about being intersex or transitioning like. Ever. And Lament didn't know when they started dating (though I don't think Light knew Lament was trans either but I think it would be more of any indication of that going over her head than Lament never mentioning it, even vaguely) but I think she does tell him at some point when she just kinda. Thinks to tell him. I don't think she was hiding it from him I think she kinda just forgot to say anything about it. And of course she's bisexual and I love her for it
I think after they figure out both of them are trans it makes them feel more comfortable with each other because they feel less worried about the other potentially not liking them because of it. I think it slowly develops into them trusting each other enough to help each other with their hrt. Like I think Lament reminds Light to take her estradiol tablets and Light helps Lament take his testosterone shots •<[]:•)
I'm not really sure what else to put here, but I hope you enjoy these headcanons !! Feel free to ask me more if you want to hear any specific takes I may have because I enjoy these two very very much teehee

re: last rb “they’re meant to be / they’re doomed by the narrative” is my ALL TIME FAVORITE FUCKED UP LITTLE THING TO HAVE GOING ON. like oh okay. so i was meant to love you. so our souls and bodies fit together just right. so we were destined for one another by something greater and more aware that lives on a higher level of consciousness than we can ever understand. and then that thing will turn around and damn us anyway. we will never last like this and this will never work out and yet we quite literally do not have any choice but to try. knowing the entire time that we’ll fail. etc. Okay

incomprehensible lightlament tagger here so I feel obligated to defend my honor.
I think for me it comes down to 1) a lot of the (especially earlier) senior staff writing kind of sucking objective ass but then having these brief flashes of the most intriguing shit you’ve ever seen in there. mediocre stories with a great deal of potential are like crack to me (at least when it comes to actually making fanwork) bc they get my braingears turning as to how to expand on them (+ of course the handful of fucking brilliant senior stuff tales hidden in the clutter that will fuck you up forever that work precisely bc of the notoriety of the characters theyre about and that, I suspect, were created by people who felt very similarly to me) and 2) I just. rlly like the foundation as a setting and like pretty much every goi-associated character the senior staff all ultimately offer some unique perspective on foundation doctrine; clef is interesting bc of his shitty self-loathing deflection complex motivated by his past on in the goc & the fact he doesnt even work here of his own accord (see: the vanguard side of the no return canon for some pretty cool recent writing on this), light is interesting bc of her determination to hold on to a veneer of morality despite the general fuckedness of everything which, given the prominence of her being in some way entangled with the o5s, can turn her downright hubristic in some tales (see: the new faces splintercanon on the resurrection hub for this). which isnt to say original characters cant be that but having these established fairly iconic characters can be a useful shortcut and with the sheer context of everything that already exists on these guys you can usually end up somewhere very interesting a lot quicker than if you were to build your own characters from the ground up.
I will say though I immensely respect the notion of just straight up not caring about any of the big name characters, I kind of envy you if I’m honest. I think like stroytelling enjoyer motivations aside part of the senior staff’s appeal does also stem from people especially in fandom being more willing to engage with stories that have characters they’re already emotionally attached to in them which, y’know, isn’t a sin, people like what they like, but I do think people miss out on some real bangers hidden on the wiki because of it. I recognize I am part of the problem here, but, yknow, I dont control what the brain attaches itself to.
anyway, cheers! sorry again about the lightlament, i will say that isnt normal youve just accidentally stumbled into a mutuals circle of people who are categorically not normal about dr light. spiders georg etc
I think I get what you’re trying to say here, and again, it’s largely similar to why I wanted to write Resurrection-family articles in the first place. There is a bit of a difference though: I read Resurrection when I was a lot younger, when it first came out. Back then I hadn’t really been as discerning or critical of what I read on the wiki, so I either didn’t notice or didn’t care about the flaws in the story, and I liked it pretty uncritically. Even back then I wanted to write for it, and years later, when I decided to write for the Wiki, I still did. At that point, I noticed a lot more issues with Resurrection on re-read, but I was already attached to the canon. It was really influential to how I viewed the wiki, so in spite of its flaws it’s important to me as an SCP writer. These days, though, I’m probably far too critical to get attached to things in the same way, hence my general apathy towards staff stories (though it might be worth noting that even back then, I found senior staff stories annoying as I outlined in a previous post).
I also understand your second point about the staff representing interesting aspects of the setting. As a writer, though, in a lot of cases I just kind of figure “why bother with all that baggage when I can just write my own character that I’ll enjoy writing more and is better tailored to my needs?” And, again, these characters just seem too ill-defined to get a good bead on. That sort of falls back to the whole “why bother with wrangling all that when I can make my own character.” I wrote Iris because I find her whole deal as an established SCP to be interesting at a basic level, even if I find the original SCP-105 article itself to be bland and uninteresting. I am aware that by trying to write one solid interpretation of her I am only adding fuel to the fire of her having too many interpretations but one day I’ll have the majority of 105 tales under my name. Then who’ll be laughing.
And I definitely get just wanting to use characters that people already know. From a more cynical standpoint, it would help with interest in your content - as I’ve said before, my tales featuring more original characters haven’t done well - but just on an “I have an interest in this thing and I want people to talk to about it” level I get it. Lord knows how many times I’ve latched into a character from something only to see a grand total of two dudes and an ambitious octopus who also like them on the internet.
