oh my goodness okay—i’m sorry OP, my frustration is not directed towards you specifically, this take just drives me absolutely nuts and i can’t keep quiet about it any longer. SHE IS ENTIRELY CAPABLE OF TAKING THINGS SERIOUSLY. the whole point of every single character arc in ii is how the characters grow past their stereotypes and become more than what they were “programmed” to be. lightbulb being the comedic relief does not mean that she is automatically exempt from being a developed, multifaceted character.

she CHOOSES to be silly because she likes having fun and brightening up the mood, and when the situation gets too serious her first instinct is to AVOID IT because she doesnt like that stuff and unhealthy escapism/toxic positivity is one of her biggest flaws. thats what she was doing in ii16. it wasnt that she was fundamentally incapable of taking it seriously, it was that she didnt want to take it seriously because she didnt wanna face how scary things were getting!! this is only cemented further by ii17 BECAUSE WE ACTUALLY DO SEE HER!!! TAKING THE SITUATION SERIOUSLY!!!!! BASEBALL’S PEP TALK TO EVERYONE AT THE END OF II16 PULLED HER BACK TO REALITY AND MOTIVATED HER TO LOCK TF IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i’m very sorry if i sound overly aggressive—again, my frustration is not directed towards any particular person here, and i am in no way trying to incite harassment against anyone or start any arguments with this. i just am begging you guys to look at this character beyond her surface-level personality traits, and beyond how she affects paintbrush. she is more than a one-sided comic relief character and she is more than a setpiece for paintbrush’s development. she is her own character!!! with her own personality and her own growth and her own nuances and her own flaws!!!!! please guys /lh

Why did it take me so long to realize that Lightbulbs' trait is that she can only see the bright side of things. She physically can't take anything seriously.
