Before & After Home Renovation with Pictures
Designed by Suzanne Bolling of Restyle Design, LLC, this home was a complete renovation! The interior designer took it down to the studs and redesigned the space for this young family. They opened up the main floor to create a large kitchen with two islands and seating for a crowd and a dining nook that looks out to the beautiful front yard. They also created two seating areas, one for TV viewing and one for relaxing in front of the bar area, and added a new mudroom with lots of closed storage cabinets, a pantry with a sliding barn door and a powder room for guests.
This home went from outdated and dark to funky and young. Although the entire home mostly features a white and grey color scheme, pops of tangerine brings a sense of happiness to this home. By the way, tangerine will be the color of 2019!

This kitchen features two islands – one is opposite to the range and the other is opposite to the fridge.

The new kitchen and dining room are located where the former living room and dining room used to be. Notice the bay windows. The windows were changed but they were placed in the same spot.

It’s hard to believe this is the same room. The designer kept the same brick fireplace!

The original brick fireplace had the brick “whitewashed” and a reclaimed wood beam was added.

Staircase
The old staircase was replaced with a custom metal staircase with beam treads in a clear finish. These beams are called “Parallam”, which is an engineered laminate lumber, often used as structural beams and posts.

Kids Bathroom
The bathrooms also felt very outdated. New cabinetry, flooring and shower tiles create a space that feels fresh and more practical. Paint color is Benjamin Moore Super White.

Lighting – Minka in chrome.
Hardware: Berenson Metro Pull Chrome.

Paint color is Repose Grey SW 7015 by Sherwin Williams. Wainscoting is Super White by Benjamin Moore. Notice that a mosaic tile was placed just above the wainscoting.

Basement Before & After
Oh, that basement!!! Well, things are looking much brighter and practical now. The designer added an under-the-counter beverage fridge and a drawer dishwasher to the wet bar.

The lower bar cabinets are textured melamine grigio pine and backsplash tile is Porcelanosa Qatar Nacar 12 x 35 straight tile set horizontal – similar here.

This space was completely reconfigured and it now features plenty of storage. The barn door opens to a pantry.

Full-scale Home Remodel Inspiration
A single dad recently hired the talented Lisa Furey of Lisa Furey Interiors (previously featured here & here) to help with the full-scale gut remodel of a contemporary style home overlooking a gorgeous duck pond and park in Villanova, PA. The designer selected all finishes, from flooring to the millwork. She designed custom cabinetry throughout the home, and selected the handmade tile, stone, plumbing and lighting. The designer also created furniture plans, made the furniture selection, designed window treatments and rugs. The best part of this job for her was creating a happy space for a great dad and his endearing young daughter.

Lisa Furey is one of my favorite interior designers simply because she know how to bring balance to any space. Take a look at this and notice the details. There’s nothing missing and nothing is overstuffed. Perfection!
In my opinion, an overstuffed space feels more like a store display than actually a home, and I am seeing a lot of that these days.

Beautiful Homes of Instagram I first asked to feature Tamara Anka’s home (from CitrineLiving & @citrineliving) because I always loved the classic and custom feel it has. Little did I know that she was budget conscious and very smart when it comes to making a home look a million dollars without having to break the bank. I honestly can’t tell how much she inspired me. She even has woken me up about where to shop in Canada! I don’t say this often but I feel that it can be very frustrating to shop for your home when you live in Canada. I find that furniture and home décor in general is much more expensive here than in the States and it’s harder to get the right look for less. Tamara’s home is proof that it’s possible to create a home that is classy using many Canadian companies and shopping online – which I also find to be much harder to do than in America. I am so proud, happy and inspired by today’s Beautiful Homes of Instagram and I think you will love to see this home, regardless where you live! Beautiful Homes of Instagram We’re two Designers/DIYers who built our home seven years ago, with the intention of flipping it within a year or two. It was built for a buyer in mind, so at the time, we wanted to keep the cost as low as possible by making budget conscious decisions, and create a home that would be enticing for the market. We love our private, wooded lot so much that we ended up staying and still call this spot our home today. We finished the majority of the interior ourselves – laying hardwood floors, installing all the trim, woodwork and moldings, and painted every inch! Our home is constantly evolving as we add new DIY projects to the list and one day we dream of building another home, or renovating this one to suit our needs. Exterior Details Our home has a small footprint, 1700 sq ft – and it was crucial to us to create a feeling of openness and give the impression that it is larger than it is. Keeping an open floor plan and raising the ceilings to 11 feet in the living/family room and main hallway/transition space, was an integral part of creating this feeling in our home. Stone and window shutters adds to the curb-appeal of this custom home. Exterior Lighting The exterior pendant is Crestwood Pendant by Progress Lighting. Front Door The black front door paint color is Canadian Tire Premier Exterior Paint – Midnight, Semi-gloss. What a timeless paint color! Foyer Get ready to fall in love with this beautifully appointed home! Paint color is “Collingwood OC-28 Benjamin Moore”. Dark Grey Interior Door Paint Color Dark Grey Interior Door Paint Color: Behr Cracked Pepper. Decor The entryway mirror and decor are all from HomeSense. Rug is Home Depot. Console Table & Lighting Console table is from HomeSense. Entryway Lighting: Progress Lighting – Peidmont – hand-painted by the homeowner for a two tone look. Wainscoting Adding woodwork and details with a ‘custom’ feel was an important part for the homeowner – the wainscotting is applied molding and chair rail, all painted a bright, crisp white. All Trim/Wainscotting Paint Color: Ultra Pure White by Behr. Dining room The dining room with it’s black walls is always a conversation piece in our home! It’s small but enveloping, and guests always love to linger on the settee after a meal with good conversation! I wanted the feeling of this room to be warm, welcoming and transportive – to give you the feeling that you were elsewhere other than your everyday world! The plan is to one day add built-in shelving flanking the settee as well. Spring Tablescape Decor Blue and white is a passion of mine, having grown up around it and having a mother who collected it as well, it’s become a key part of the decor in our home. Dining room Decor: All pieces are from HomeSense. Upholstered Stools – Bouclair. Contrast I am loving the contrast the dark paint color in the dining room creates against the neutral color on the remaining walls. Lighting Lighting is from Wayfair – Lighting is Varnum 4-Light Foyer Pendant by Three Posts in Vintage Gold – with shades added from Amazon. Paint Color Paint color is Cracked Pepper PPU18-1 by Behr. Rug Rug is from Wayfair. Hardwood Dark hardwood flooring is Mixed grade oak with a walnut stain. Drapery The dining room features custom drapes from Tonic Living. Kitchen The kitchen was designed around an ‘old-world-traditional-meets-modern’ look. The back wall, as the focal point, has no upper cabinets and it features counter to ceiling white subway tile. The barstools were the driving force behind the kitchen and the jumping off point for the design of this space! Kitchen Island Kitchen island features Shaker style cabinet with added trim – MDF, Black. Kitchen Island Dimension : 7’2″ x 3’7″ Kitchen Barstools: HomeSense. Lighting Kitchen Lighting: Progress Lighting – Assembly Hall Pendants. Hardware Kitchen Cabinet Hardware: Chrome Pulls are Hickory Hardware Studio Collection Bright Nickel Pull. Ceilings are 9’. Cabinet Perimeter cabinets are Shaker style with added trim – Polyester, Ivory. Farmhouse Sink: Ikea. Kitchen Runner The homeowner added a blue and white striped runner and some turkish towels to bring a coastal vibe to her ivory kitchen. Backsplash The backsplash is white ceramic subway tile with marble inset above stove. Countertop Countertop is Quartz in Misty Carrera. Kitchen Shelves Having an open shelf cabinet is a practical, economical and beautiful addition to any kitchen. Kitchen Candle Sconces – The Bombay Company. Family room Our home has an east coast traditional look and feel, and my style is collected and curated. No matching sets of furniture in here! Open Layout The kitchen opens directly to the family room. Fireplace Tamara added molding and trim above the fireplace to give it a custom look. Doesn’t it look great? Lighting is Progress Lighting – P4618 – Cherish – Six Light Circle Chandelier. Rug is from HomeSense. Bookshelf Tamara also built the bookshelves with her husband to add more storage and interest to their living room. I really like how clean and simple she kept them. Ottoman Living Room Ottoman: The Bay (it’s very old!), new feet and recovered many times! Lamps are HomeSense. Color Scheme The homeowner used the same mix of pillows on both sofas, with one different pattern on each. Lighting Tamara is always changing the lighting in her home to change the mood of the spaces. These wine barrel chandeliers add a more rustic/farmhouse feel to the living room. Shelf lighting is from Wayfair. Ceiling Family room and hallway ceilings are 11′. Pillows Pillows are from Tonic Living and HomeSense. Aren’t they stunning?! Sofas The grey sofas are Decor-rest by Steven and Chris. Paint Color Main Wall Color Throughout (entryway, hallway, living/family room): “Benjamin Moore Collingwood“. Mirrored Buffet The mirrored buffet is from Structube. Blue & White Decor is from HomeSense. Flooring The beautiful dark hardwood flooring brings warmth to this living room. Flooring is Mixed grade oak with a walnut stain. Bathroom Tamara just gave this bathroom a makeover and it looks amazing! The faux grasscloth vinyl wallpaper looks the same as real grasscloth but it’s ideal for wet spaces such as bathrooms. Wallpaper is Norwall Wallcoverings Inc. from Wayfair. Lighting is Darby Home Co. Master Bedroom The master bedroom paint color is discontinued but closest match is Lily White by Benjamin Moore. Lighting is Canadian Tire with shades added from Amazon (Furnishland Set of 5 Off White Chandelier shade, 4-inch Bottom Diameter, 4-inch Height, Cotton). Blue & White I love how crisp and timeless blue and white bedding looks. The pillow combination complements the classic look. Bedding and pillows are from HomeSense. Bed Accessories The accessories are also from HomeSense. Nightstand Nightstand: Vintage Accent Table: HomeSense Bed Bed is Versailles – King Size Bed by Structube in Charcoal – $879 Outdoors The backyard/patio was designed with three zones in mind – lounge, dining, fireplace/conversation. Dream Backyard It was crucial to create an extension of the interior of our home and feel as though it was another room that welcomes guests to linger, relax and unwind. Table & Chairs Table and chairs are from Canadian Tire. Tablescape Decor is from Home Sense. Patio Decor Blue and white decor adds a classic feel to this patio. Gazebo Outdoor Furniture/Decor: All items are from the Canadian Tire Canvas Line and some other pieces the homeowner had for many years. Private Party Accessories & Pillows: Canadian Tire & HomeSense. Between Friends Isn’t this a great place to have some friend over? Outdoor Bar Cart I like the idea of having a bar cart outdoors so you don’t have to keep going inside of the house to grab a drink or snacks. Outdoor Chair Outdoor chair is from Canadian Tire. French Doors French doors open to a backyard that was truly designed for entertainment. Exterior lighting is by Progress Lighting. Black Shutters The black shutters and window boxes are painted in Canadian Tire Premier Exterior Paint – Midnight, Semi-gloss. Lounge Area This area features an outdoor fireplace and comfy chairs. Details By bringing with the same blue and white color scheme we see indoors to the outdoors keep this entire home feeling connected. Outdoor Fireplace Can you picture yourself here by the fire with a glass of wine in hand? Life is good! Full-scale Home Remodel Inspiration
A single dad recently hired the talented Lisa Furey of Lisa Furey Interiors (previously featured here & here) to help with the full-scale gut remodel of a contemporary style home overlooking a gorgeous duck pond and park in Villanova, PA. The designer selected all finishes, from flooring to the millwork. She designed custom cabinetry throughout the home, and selected the handmade tile, stone, plumbing and lighting. The designer also created furniture plans, made the furniture selection, designed window treatments and rugs. The best part of this job for her was creating a happy space for a great dad and his endearing young daughter.

Lisa Furey is one of my favorite interior designers simply because she know how to bring balance to any space. Take a look at this and notice the details. There’s nothing missing and nothing is overstuffed. Perfection!
In my opinion, an overstuffed space feels more like a store display than actually a home, and I am seeing a lot of that these days.

Full-scale Home Remodel Inspiration
A single dad recently hired the talented Lisa Furey of Lisa Furey Interiors (previously featured here & here) to help with the full-scale gut remodel of a contemporary style home overlooking a gorgeous duck pond and park in Villanova, PA. The designer selected all finishes, from flooring to the millwork. She designed custom cabinetry throughout the home, and selected the handmade tile, stone, plumbing and lighting. The designer also created furniture plans, made the furniture selection, designed window treatments and rugs. The best part of this job for her was creating a happy space for a great dad and his endearing young daughter.

I really hope you guys like this home as much as I do. What grabs my attention the most is how the interior designer reinvented the spaces and brought a comforting feel to every space. And I think that’s how we all want to feel when we open our front door.

Style
How do you add your personal touch to your own home? I like to make minor changes around my home with pillows, rugs and even draperies. The sunnier it gets out there, the lighter and happier my home becomes.

Mirror
Lisa Furey is one of my favorite interior designers simply because she know how to bring balance to any space. Take a look at this and notice the details. There’s nothing missing and nothing is overstuffed. Perfection!
In my opinion, an overstuffed space feels more like a store display than actually a home, and I am seeing a lot of that these days.

This has been one of my favorites wallpaper for many years now and it never goes out of style. It looks even better with the fresh shiplap wainscoting!

California Modern Farmhouse Renovation
Hello, my dear friends! How are you doing? I hope you could relax during the long weekend and are happy to start this day with a new post as much as I am! Nothing better than taking a little break to get you inspired again, right? I have to say that I feel so grateful for each and every one of you. I might get a little tired now and then but I can’t stay away from sharing new ideas with you. Being able to exchange this great energy and the many inspirations is truly a passion of mine.
Talking about inspiration, having CM Natural Designs on the blog guarantees that you will leave inspired and if you have some extra time make sure to see some of their other projects published on the blog ( here, here and here). This designer and her team is a name you want to keep in mind if you live at the San Francisco area.
Now, let’s talk about this California modern farmhouse renovation. Here, the designer describes this project: “This remodel in Encinitas was such a joy to be a part of. The original house was small, dark and in much need of some love. This young family of three with ties to Ballast Point wanted a spacious kitchen to accommodate their love of entertainment and growing family. The architect divided the home into multiple levels to give each room a sense of coziness while actually being open and accessible to the whole house.”

The exterior of this home was completely renovated and it feels more current. The exterior paint color is similar to Benjamin Moore HC-172 Revere Pewter.
Front Door
I love the simplicity of this front porch. Notice the low-maintenance floor tile (similar here with charcoal grout) and the Fir posts. Front door paint color is Sherwin Williams SW 6989 Domino.

Foyer
The Dutch-door opens to a bright foyer with hardwood flooring. Wall paint color is Ethereal White by Sherwin Williams.

Interiors to Impress
An impressive cathedral ceiling makes the kitchen and dining area feel extra spacious. Notice how the patio doors and transoms bring natural light into this room.

Kitchen
It’s not easy to plan a kitchen in a space like this but the designer did an amazing job with the layout and with color scheme as well. Also notice a staircase on left opening to a landing area with metal railing above the kitchen. The wall paint color is Ethereal White by Sherwin Williams.

Transitional Family Home Design
Hello, my wonderful friends! How are you today? I hope everything is good with you. I am really excited to be sharing this Transitional Family Home built and designed by one of my favorite Canadian builders, Veranda Estate Homes Inc.. They have been featured on the blog before (see the links below) and they are not only very talented and knowledgeable but they are always aware of the latest trends, so seeing their homes always feel refreshing.
Here, Melissa Manzardo Hryszko for Veranda Estate Homes Inc., shares some more details about this beautiful and inspiring new Family home:
“This home was initially designed and built as a spec home in the community of Altadore in SW Calgary. Since we were building this home with no ‘end-user’ in mind, we wanted to ensure that it ticked all of the right boxes to appeal to the masses. Featuring over 3400 Sq. Ft. above grade and an additional 1,175 Sq. Ft of lower-level development with two additional bedrooms, a full bathroom, rec room with a wet bar and home gym.
We were lucky enough to have a buyer come along at the framing stage. This allowed us to customize this home to work with their needs as a family.”

“The client’s love for entertaining was taken into account with the addition of a few more goodies. In the butler’s pantry that is just past the kitchen walk-through and across from the walk-in flood pantry, we incorporated an additional beverage fridge and a set of dishwasher drawers. No chance of running out of cold drinks or having dishes and glasses pile up!”

“You may notice that there is a 36″ Sub Zero fridge in the kitchen…. but where is the freezer? With a large walk-in pantry right around the corner, we installed a full-size freezer in that space. This gives the clients a lot more food storage, but it also keeps the kitchen cleaner looking.”

“The large wood windows were stained black to simulate the look of iron. They play off perfectly with the custom iron and glass dividers that were incorporated to give the informal dining area a feeling of separation without impeding on the space.”

One of the more significant revisions we made was to the upper level of the home. Originally it was designed to have 3 secondary bedrooms on the upper level, with two young sons and an additional two bedrooms in the lower level development; this wasn’t needed. We raised the washer & dryer off the floor, this not only provides the clients with additional storage below the units, but it also puts them at a more comfortable height when using.”

California Home Renovation
Happy 2020, my wonderful friends! I have been working a little less than I usually do and I feel better about everything in my life. Sometimes all we need to do is take a break to feel ourselves again… and have our creative side get back to its full potential!
It’s really great to start this week with this inspiring California home renovation by Spaces Renewed (previously featured here). This was a total reno, inside and out, and the interiors were beautifully staged for sale, and although the staging company (Everything Creative Designs) wasn’t able to provide the resources for the furniture and decor, I will be doing my best to find the items or similar options so you still can get this look!
Here, the talented builder and designer Beth Booth, along with her equally talented husband, Marshall, share the details on this incredible project:
“We did this project for an investor and the goal was to make this home as appealing as possible to a wide range of buyers. We did this by not only addressing the cosmetics of the home, but also fundamentally changing the floor plan. We took overly large redundant space and made distinct, usable and versatile space. For example, the existing master bedroom and bathroom and media room took over the entire upstairs. By repurposing that area, we created a generous master bedroom and bathroom suite, a library, a media room, a game room, and a great sized laundry and craft room. These changes not only make the feel of the home totally different, but also give the investor the best return on investment regarding real estate comps. We took this 8800 square foot dark, closed off gut job and turned it into an inspired coastal style full renovation that any family would love to call home.”

This was a total gut and reno of a 8800 sf home in Rancho Santa Fe, California.

The architecture, interior design, and build were done by Spaces Renewed.
