The Comedy Show with Kapil Sharma and family
Tumblr media
The 20th of August 2016 will now remain a memorable day for me as I went to see the king of comedy Kapil Sharma at the SSE Arena in Wembley, his first ever live concert in London, titled ‘The Comedy Show with Kapil Sharma and family’. He is a very famous Indian stand-up comedian and has also produced and starred in his own comedy shows under his production company K9 Productions, titled ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil ‘and his new show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. Celebrities from Bollywood have appeared on his show to promote their upcoming films, including books, exercise videos and new album releases, and so on. International celebrities have also appeared on his show, including Jackie Chan, The Vamps, a British pop and rock band, West Indies cricketers, Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo. All the characters in his sketches are based around the stars or what is being promoted in that show. He is an actor, singer and a television presenter and he has a huge fan following across the world. The concert revolved around his super hit comedy shows mentioned above.
I went along with my Dad by car and we went to ‘London Wembley’ Travelodge as we needed to check-in at 3pm before we could leave and head off down to the SSE Arena, Wembley which was 1.4 miles from the hotel.
After getting very confused and frustrated as we could not find the hotel but little did we know, we went past it three times without realising it and finally we arrived at 6pm. We had booked an accessible room which was spacious and I could move around the room in my wheelchair with ease and the bathroom was also big enough to accommodate my wheelchair quite nicely. I however did struggle using the shower facilities in the morning as it was difficult for me to operate the soap dispenser because it was not placed in the right position for easy access and use. My Dad and I took some rest and had a bite to eat and left the hotel at 6:30pm.
The SSE Arena was close in distance from the hotel but we experienced heavy traffic and long queues heading to the arena. We arrived at the arena but the most frustrating part was that could not locate our prepaid disabled car park as there were two or three of them and there were also several road closures and one-way systems put into place due to the event, so we asked several people and some members of staff from the other car parks and they all failed to direct us to our car park.
I started to get disappointed at this point because there were only 10 minutes remaining until the show was due to start and of cause I did not want to miss the start of the show. My Dad continued driving and the time was getting ever closer and it was 7:29pm, just 60 seconds to go until the show was due to start and I on the other hand I was very disappointed as I was by no means going to make it in time but by the grace of God, we eventually found the car park and parked the car and then went inside SSE Arena.
We were then directed by a member of staff to the lift and told to take the second floor and then from there we asked a stewed to direct us to the auditorium and we then showed our tickets to him and then he took us to the disabled seating entrance and along the way I asked him whether the show had started, he replied “No", it will start in 15 minutes so you have plenty of time”. When he said that I breathed a sigh of relief. I entered the arena and it was a full-house and the disabled seating area was quite a distance from the stage.
The lights went out and the concert started at 8pm and the popular radio and television presenter ‘Noreen Khan’ from the ‘BBC Asian Network’ was the host of the show and she welcomed everyone to the concert and to Wembley and then a five minute audio-visual was played showcasing Kapil Sharma’s hit show ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, then after Noreen Khan announced his name and the crowd went wild and screamed and Kapil Sharma emerged on to stage, singing to the track “Main Jahaan Rahoon” (“Where ever I live”) from the movie ‘Namastey London’ (‘Hello London’). (2007). The atmosphere was absolutely amazing and he sang his own version which was brilliant and sounded fantastic with the orchestra.
Kapil cracked many jokes which were hilarious not forgetting his mannerisms and he also sang some Bollywood and Panjabi songs on request from the audience, my personal favourites was “Challa” (A ring) from Gurdaas Maan who is very famous Panjabi singer. Kapil Sharma was on the stage for about an hour entertaining the audience.
Chandan Prabhakar as Chandu who is an owner of a tea stall in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ walked on the stage and he received a very warm reception from the crowd and his act consisted of impressions of some Bollywood stars including, Shahrukh Khan, Salf Ali Khan, Nana Patekar and comedian Johnny Lever, just to name a few. His act was great and I was left in stitches.
Ali Asgar was next on stage and the audience went crazy as he came on as Pushpa Nani (Kapi’s grandmother in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’) and she was basically in London to find love and get married, so she invited members of the audience on the stage and they had to impress her. Some members of audience did press-ups and some recited a romantic poem and obviously Pushpa Nani being a ladies man, she choose the person with the best poem and they got married live on stage. It was very funny to witness because they were actually two men.
Sunil Grover as Dr. Mashoor Gulati came dancing on to the stage and the crowd screamed with excitement. Sunil plays the role of a doctor in a hospital in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. He said” My big wife lives in London as well and she wants me to open a hospital in London”. Kapil then said” What is her name and the Dr replied “Big Ben” and everybody in the audience laughed historically.
He also want on and conducted some tests on some of the audience and he walked through the crowd and called a few people on to the stage, one person was happen to be wearing spectacles and he said” Oh I think I need to do your eye test” and then Gulati got a paper and asked the person to read what is written on the paper and the person says “ I can’t see” and then the doctor distracted him and then shows him another paper and asked him to read it and then he says” I can see” and then Dr Mashoor Gulati chargers him £50 for the test.
Sonu Nigam (A Playback singer from Bollywood) was in the audience to my amazement and Dr Mashoor Gulati also carried out a test on him as well and said to Sonu “I am going to test your heart and for that you have to sing a song” and Sonu replied and said” Ok” and sang “Yeh Dil Deewana” (“This Crazy Heart”) from the movie ‘Pardes’ (‘Foreign Land”) (1997). Dr Mashoor Gulati then said “Your heart is absolutely fine.
The whole sketch was very entertaining and I especially enjoyed Dr Mashoor Gulati’s comic punches and his mannerisms.
Sugandha Mishra was next to entertain the Wembley audience and she came as herself and jointed Dr Mashoor Gulati on stage. She portrays the character of Vidyapati, a school teacher in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. Sugandha and Dr Gulati performed an act were every time he gave her an injection called a ‘Bollywood Injection’ she would become a different Bollywood star each time. The best one was when she became Kangana Ranaut and she acted and sounded just like her, I was absolutely amazed. Dr Mashoor Gulati then removed his costume and revealed himself live in front of the audience and danced with Sugandha Mishra to the song “Gerua” (“Colour Me In The Colour Of Love”) from the film ‘Dilwale’ (‘The Big Hearted’) (2015). The crowed went absolutely crazy and it was a fantastic performance and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Sugandha also impersonated Lata Mangeshkar (A very famous playback singer in Bollywood) and she was brilliant as she sounded exactly like her. She also sang a medley of Bollywood movie songs including “Ambarsariya” (A person who belongs from the city of Amritsar, Punjab in India) from the move’ Fukrey’ (‘Worthless’) (2013) and my favourite  “Galliya” (“Lanes”) (Unplugged) from the film ‘Ek Villain’ (‘One Villain ’) (2014). Kapil Sharma joined in and sang “Gulabi Aankhein” (“Rosy Eyes”) from the movie ‘The Train’ (1970). Kapil and Sugandha also sang a duet to the soundtrack “Tum Hi Ho” (“You Are The One”) from the movie ‘Aashiqui 2’ (‘Love 2’) (2013). Kapil and Sugandha’s collaboration was amazing and they both sang the songs brilliantly.
Kiku Sharda as Bumper who plays a female Nurse in Dr. Mashoor Gulati’s hospital in ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’, graces the Wembley stage. She told some hilarious jokes and then she performed her signature dance move with a few members of the audience that she called up on stage to the soundtrack “Kar Gayi Chull” (‘Has Caused An Itch’) from the movie ‘Kapoor & Sons’ (2016). It was a great and a very funny act because the audience members could not imamate Bumper’s dace move properly.
Dr Zeus (Baljit Singh Padam is a Punjabi singer and music producer from the UK), Jassy B (Jaswinder Singh Bains is a Punjabi singer and songwriter from Panjab, India) and Sukshinder Shinda (A Bhangra record producer and singer and songwriter from the UK). They all made a special appearance on the stage, including Sonu Nigam. Dr Zeus sang “Bam Bam”, a track from Kapil Sharma’s debut film ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon’ (‘Whom Should I Love’) (2016). Jassy B sang his very popular song “Jinne Mera Dil Lutiya” (“The One Who Stole My Heart”) and everyone danced and sang along. Sonu Nigam sang “Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin” (“Still Somewhere Inside Me”) from the movie ‘Agneepath’ (‘The Path of Fire’) (2012). This was an amazing edition to the show and the atmosphere was electric, unbelievable!
The stars of the show came back on to the stage for the final time for a final performance. Kapil started the intro of the song and then Sugandha continued and sang “Beedi” (“Cigarette”) from ‘Omkara’ (‘Om’) (2006), Kapil sang the title track from the film “Yamla Pagla Deewana” (‘Mad, Mad, Mad, or crazy, crazy ’) (2011) and then the song Ishq” (“Love”) by Sukhbir Singh (1999), blended-in, it sounded absolutely amazing! The last track that kapil sang was “Subha Hone Na De” (“Let There Be No Morning”) from the movie ‘Desi Boyz’ (‘Indian Boys’) (2011). The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic and the stage was on fire, ‘I though the roof of the arena was going to blow off’ and the song choices were wonderful! What a great way of ending a three and half hour show, absolutely fabulous!
We left the auditorium at 12am as I was trying to find out whether I could meet Kapil Sharma in person. Unfortunately, security would not allow it, which was very disappointing. When we had made our way out, we saw barriers and people were waiting to catch a glimpse of Kapil, leaving the arena and I was patiently waiting with my mobile phone ready, as we were waiting, my dad was saying “Oh Kapil has come” and anybody jerked forward in excitement and took their camera out, that was a very funny moment.
After 10 or 20 minutes later a red car drove past with Kapil Sharma inside, then everyone ran towards the car including my Dad, leaving me behind. My Dad however saw Kapil Sharma and he was sitting in the front seat and Jassy B was driving. I did not see him as I did not know what side of queue the car was going to drive past.
We left the SSE Arena at 12:30am and drove back to the hotel, arriving approximately at 1am. The next morning we had breakfast checked-out of the hotel at 12 noon and drove back home at 4:45pm.
