Looking Back on 2021!
We're finally at the end of 2021 and wow what a year it's been! 🎊 This newsletter is a yearly wrap-up of everything I have worked on and accomplished this year, with a little info on what I hope to achieve in the next 12 months! Digital Artwork- I have been looking through everything I've posted this year and it's a lot more than I give myself credit for. I'll be gathering up some of my favourites for a 'Best of 2021' post in a couple of days! For the past 12-18 months I have pushed myself to learn a lot on Clip Studio Paint. I have picked up a whole bunch of useful brushes, new techniques, and texturing skills in this time that's really helped me to improve the standard of my digital drawings and speed up my workflow. When I compare my recent work to those drawn in 2020 I can see a clear difference in the line-art quality and colouring skill. Even so, there is still so much I can learn to make my life using CSP easier and there are a lot of techniques I still need more time to develop. One of my goals for 2022 is to practice some of the skills I've developed and become more comfortable experimenting with some of these brushes. Some key areas I want to improve on are things like plantlife, building textures, and paint-like colour schemes. Colony: Rise of the Monarch- Although this has been kept to just Patreon I have made so much progress with Chapter 1 of Colony: Rise of the Monarch this year. At the end of 2020 I had just posted episode 4 (at 10 pages long) but now that we're at the end of 2021 I have episodes 5-12 posted here (around 13-18 pages per episode). This is, admitedly, a little slower of a release schedule than I had wanted but it was bound to happen. It's a bit of a shame that a lot of my time spent writing (and re-writing) isn't easy to show. I had been trying to cram this in around my weekly uploads so that it doesn't look like I'm idling but in reality I have spent a huge amount of time this year working on the story. I am so happy that this series is starting to pull itself together and I am really excited to start releasing full episodes to WebToons. I still have a little way to go before then and I would really like to have the whole first chapter sketched out before I start to finalise the first few episodes. This method of working on episodes is certainly not the quickest but it really helps me to have the option of double-checking everything is ok across the whole chapter and to make any final edits before releasing them! Other Projects and Drawings- As for the other projects I'm working on- I have still been quietly working in the background to build up a list of possible physical products I can produce with my artwork. I don't have an awful lot to show for this yet, other than the butterfly stickers I made at the start of 2021 and the cute artwork I've posted throughout the year. This is something I want to make a lot more progress with in 2022. I have been keeping an eye out for printers and have put together a shopping list of everything I'll need to get started with an online store. I have kept some money by to be able to do this but unfortunately looks like I'm going to need to wait until I can move home before I'll be able to install a printer. I am in a bit of a similar situation with my plans to start Art Streaming. I have most of what I need to be able to get started but don't really have the space (or sound protection) in this flat to be able to make a real start. Hopefully this will change next year and I'll be able to get properly set up in an office space to be able to do these things! Thank You!~ This last part of my yearly wrap-up is dedicated to everyone who has supported my artwork through the past 2 years! I say it a lot but I really am grateful for everyone who has followed me through this and helped me make something worthwhile from my drawings! I am so excited to get started with 2022 and can't wait to see where we get to by the end of the year. I certainly have big plans for the year and hope I can meet my expectations! I want to say Thank you! to everyone who has follows my art pages. Thank you! to everyone who supports Colony on social media. and a huge Thank you! to all of my lovely friends who help me out on Patreon! <3 I hope you all have a great time over New Years! Stay safe and I'll catch you all again soon! ❤
