matt  could’ve  been  part  of  the  hunters,   only  if  he  didn’t  decide  to  stay  back.  it’s  to  honour  his  presumably  mortal  dad  and  the  world  he  lived  in,  and  at  a  young  age  while  he’s  still  mourning  and  filled  with  grief  &  rage,   the  idea  of  living  with  strange  magical  maidens  for  the  rest  of  his  life  when  he  didn’t  even  know  how  to  act  around   ( like  having  a  mother,  because  he  didn’t  have  one  &&  also,  he’s  not  even  sure  if  he’s  just  dreaming  this  up  to  cope )   did  not  really  sit  well  with  him. artemis:   lastly,  recite  the  oath. matt:    'i  pledge  myself  to  the  goddess  artemis.  i  turn  my  back  on  the  company  of ...  men?  accept  eternal  maidenhoo-’   wait.  but  i’m  not  really  a  girl.  and  this  sounds  fishy.  can’t  you  provide  a  legit  copy  of- artemis:   just  do  it. matt,  groaning:   fine.  

his  canon  abilities  still  remain  and   ARTEMIS’  BLESSING   on  him  is  limited  since  he’s  not  physically  with  her  and  allied  to  become  part  of  the  hunters  officially:   he  still  can  get  sick  but  that  won’t  kill  him,    can  still  somehow  understand  and  communicate  with  wild  animals,   and  enhancing  his  physical  prowess  translated  to  steadier  and  longer  endurance  than  any  demigod,  mortal  or  nymph  ( extremely  high  pain  tolerance  ).

STICK   is  still  a  canonically  part  of  his  life,  teaching  him  ways  to  survive,  and  also  leaving  matt  when  matt  begins  to  form  attachments.    he  somehow  knows  about  the  monsters  other  than  men  that  matt  fights,   to  which  he  wouldn’t  give  direct  answers  to.   matt  learns  archery  from  stick;  and  losing  artemis’  blessing  later  on  made  it  a  bit  difficult  for  matt  to  relearn  it  manually.

as  matt  grew  up,  he  never  fails  to  visit  and  train  himself  in  his  dad’s  former  gym  especially  after  stick  gave  up  on  him.   matt  tends  to  spar  sometimes  with  a  person  he  can’t  ever  beat,  and  that  person  disappears  the  day  after  matt  is  able  to  defeat  him  in  a  mock  fight.   turns  out  it’s  ARES.   it’s  unknown  yet  if  he  revealed  this  info  to  matt,   that  he’s  been  keeping  tabs  after  jack’s  boy  after  being  made  aware  that  artemis  had  taken  matt  in  already.   ares  might  or  might  not  have  admired  jack’s  prowess  in  carrying  out  natural  violence  in  him,  so  he  might  or  might  not  be  curious  to  see  how  matt  will  end  up  as.

artemis  checking  up  on  him  sometimes  meant  sending  random  birds  or  other  animals  his  way  whenever,  wherever.   the  first  time  she  had  contact  with  him  is  when  he  was  around  9-11  years  old,   and  the  last  time  she  contacted  him  personally  is  after  she  learns  that  college  junior  matt  broke  the  oath.   she’s  Disappointed  But  Not  Surprised.   she  did  try  to  give  him  a  choice  not  to  follow  his  mother’s  footsteps  since  she  does  acknowledge  matt  has  potential  even  if  he’s  a  boy,   and  if  anytime  that  he’s  keen  to  magical  gender  changes,   then  artemis  would  more  than  be  happy  to  take  him  in.

even  if  matt  did  become  one  of  the  hunters  of  artemis  by  exception,   APHRODITE  would’ve  still  send  elektra  his  way,  fulfilling  part  of  his  destiny  to  fall  out  of  artemis’  blessing.

yes,  he  still  goes  on  to  become  daredevil.   except  he  also  fights  monsters  now  after  artemis’  protection  is  gone,   24/7.   

matt  and   ARES,   as  connected  through  Jack,  has  a  neutral / casual  relationship.   matt  finds  him  annoying  more  than  helpful  sometimes,   but  is  silently  relieved  that  at  least,   the  god  of  war  has  been  kind  to  his  mortal  grandmother  though  matt  is  still  upset  that  ares  has  been  absent  until  the  god  finds  it  amusing  that  matt  leans  towards  violence,   after  all.   ares  seems  to  have  high  expectations  of  him  as  his  grandson,  and  somehow,   matt  seems  to  like  doing  the  opposite  just  to  prove  the  old  man  wrong.

the  last  contact  he  has  with  ares,  who  warned  matt  not  to  be  on  his  bad  side,   shit  went  down  in  hell’s  kitchen  ( AROUND  OR  POST - DD  S1 ).    matt  seeks  help,  resigned  to  finally  accepting  that  gods  and  goddesses  are  real  and  they’re  annoying,   only  to  be  found  by  ATHENA.    being  one  of  her  reserve  champions  gave  him  the  stability  he’s  looking  for,  in  treading  this  real  myths  business.  

athena  directs  matt  to  camp  half  blood,  immediately  claims  him  as  her  own,  which  might  or  might  not  have  offended  ares.    artemis’  blessing,  stick’s  training  and  ares’  occasional  meddling  helped  him  survive  to  thirty  years  of  his  life,  which  is  a  very  rare  case  so  it’s  a  miracle  really.   however,  he  does  sport  scars,  bruises,  fractures  mended,  etc.  through  the  struggles  of  growing  up  and  beating  up  literal  monsters.

matt  later  learns  that  stick’s  involvement  in  his  life  is  not  coincidental;   he’s  been  sent  by  someone  else.   because  when  matt questions  ares  about  stick,   he  denied  any  connection.    tracing  that  lead,   he  finds  out  that   STICK   is  a  descendant  of  the  aeolian  tribe  of  warriors,  the  LAPITHS ...    and  the  war  with   THE  HAND   might  be  something  more  than  mystical  crime  syndicates  wanting  immortality  for  themselves.    but  matt  doesn’t  want  to  participate  in  any  war  as  much  as  possible  as  he  works  on  his  own  causes  independently,  so  that’s  why  he  agreed  to  ally  himself  with  ATHENA.

matt  learns  about  the  truth  of  his  lineage  around  DD  S3  when  he  meets  sister  maggie.  maggie,  also  known  as  creusa,  sent  stick  to  help  him  back  then.   ( TBA )

concept:   matt  has  no  idea  how  camps  work  but  becomes  an  occasional  camp  staff,   if  not  staying  as  a  visitor  every  once  in  a  while.    he  works  well  in  teaching  unarmed / armed  combat  more  than  archery  (  ironically,  he  can  do  it  but  he  doesn’t  prefer  to ).   he  also  enjoys  following  on  capture  the  flag  games,   and  offers  insights  on  tactical  and  strategic  approaches  to  the  campers ...   most  especially  on  how  to  apply  the  theory  out  there  in  the  real  world  outside  camp.

can’t  help  but  look  after  ares’  kids  and  providing  them  with  socio-emotional  support  that  ares  can’t  give,   most  often.    just  matt  empathising  and  listening  to  children,   who  are  given  stereotypes  and  having  to  ‘toughen  up’  because  it  doesn’t  help  much  when  their  dad  is  the  god  of  war.   it  doesn’t  limit  to  ares’  cabin  since  matt  is  open  to  anyone  needing  his  support.

respects  chiron.   a  lot.   even  if  their  ancient  people  had  disagreements  a  long  time  ago,  matt  is  pretty  chill  with  chiron.

matt  still  doesn’t  like  large  bodies  of  water,   ironically  provided  that  his  mother  is  a  naiad.    it  dulls  his  senses  when  submerged.

EDIT :    matt  gives  offerings,  equal  halves  to  artemis  and  athena  for  their  support.   even  if  matt  is  not  part  of  artemis’  hunters  anymore  and  artemis  might  or  might  not  still  be  disappointed  with  him,   matt  still  gives  his  gratitude  for  her  assistance.    when  matt’s  in  a  good  mood,  thinks  that  ares  deserves  it  or  matt  just  wanna  see  what  the  god  is  up  to,   he  sometimes  places  offerings  for  his  asshole  grandfather  too.
