Chapter Eleven
"We're going to have to run for it," John growled. "Everyone hold on!" The cart lurched forward and rattled down the road. Everyone hung onto the sides of the cart as John pushed it forward.
Suddenly, it slammed to a stop. A wide cave entrance was in front of it. "We're not going in there, are we?" Brian asked.
"Do you have a better idea?" John snapped.
"No. But it doesn't feel safe," Brian countered.
"I have to agree with Brian," Chuck spoke. "This cave supposedly is home to trolls."
John frowned and stared at the cave. "Cave trolls or normal trolls?"
"Mountain trolls," Chuck replied.
"Hell on earth," John mumbled under his breath. "Well, it's here tonight or out in the open. Both options are deadly."
"We can keep a guard out here," Danny quipped. "If we go in there, it doesn't matter how strong you are, you can't win."
John jumped down. "I'll be right back." He disappeared into the cave.
Jim jumped off and ran after him. "You don't have to do this! We do have a dragon, you know!"
John froze. "That's right. Trolls are scared of fire too."
"Do we need her?"
"Wouldn't it be too dangerous, though? People will see."
"John, we could die either way tonight. I'm taking no risks. I have to see Ray again." Jim turned away and called for the dragon.

"Alright, we need to plan," Geddy said.
"No matter what, we need to get back to Sar. We're on the fringe of war," Jimmy said.
Geddy nodded. "Right. You and your companions should leave as soon as we get things sorted out."
"We could start a revolution in Lielt," Keith said. "The people will listen to us. We've tried before."
"And were captured," Greg interjected.
"Yes, but Richards is too busy dealing with bigger issues right now," Jimmy added. "He's about to have a righteously angry group of rescuers and former companions storm up to his front door with a dragon."
"It would be best to try a revolution now while he's distracted," Robby said, joining the conversation. "His mind is very one way. Controlling everyone that works directly under him takes a lot of focus and energy. And since he was nearly killed once any skills he stole are greatly weakened now."
"How do you know all of this?" Jimmy asked.
Robby looked away. "He captured us before going to war with Sar. We escaped, but learned how he works before we could."
"Thank you," Geddy said softly. "That must have been hard to remember those things."
Robby nodded. "If there was to be a revolution in Lielt, there are pockets of revolutionists already." He looked at Keith, Greg and Carl. "You need to find Mike. He's in charge of the larger of the five groups. He'll be able to unite them, but they'll need a stronger leader from there." The three nodded. "If Tom was here, we'd easily be able to do this. It will be difficult to do this, but Mike will probably be the one who will listen."
"Okay. We go into Lielt, find Mike and unite the revolutionists," Keith repeated. "Then what?"
"Gain people," Geddy answered. "You gain as many people as you. Tell them that once Richards is out, no one that sided with him against their will will be punished. Those that sided with him willingly will have to pay a price for it, but keep it light."
"You're talking like you want us to take over after this is done," Carl mused.
"Exactly."
"Are you sure that's a good idea?" Alex asked.
Geddy nodded. "Of course. If we're talking about the Mike I know, he won't want to take over a country. It'll be better this way." Geddy picked at a hangnail. "Besides. You three are easier to communicate with and have had some leadership ruling a country."
"We were controlled."
"But still ruling. We'll help you. But for now, just start a revolution. We need to stay here and keep order over the people of Rix. We're going to end up in this war too, you know," Geddy explained. "Just go. It'll be fine."
Emerson, Lake and Palmer stood up. "We'll go then. Find Mike, start a revolution, got it," Keith said. "Let's go, then."
The three started out the castle when Greg stopped. "Is there anyway to find Tom?"
Jimmy nodded. "He'll be in Lielt when the time is right."
Greg nodded and ran to catch up to the other two.
"Will they really be able to do this?" Neil asked.
"Of course," Jimmy assured. "I knew them a long time ago. They're capable of nearly anything they want to be. And I get the feeling this is something they want to do." He stood up from the table as well. "Come on, you six. We need to leave and get back to Sar now." He turned back to Geddy, Neil and Alex. "Take care."
"You as well."
With that, Jimmy led his band back to Sar.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
"My ring is gone." Ray hit his head on the wall and cried out, "It's gone!"
"Calm down! Do you want the guards to hear you?!" David snapped.
"Maybe they'll end this misery sooner," Ray moaned. He slumped to the ground. "I need that ring."
"Why?" Richard asked.
"It's special," Syd interjected. "Leave him be, okay?" He walked over to Ray. "It'll come back to you. I know it will."
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
"Explain why I have to do this again?" David asked.
"You're short," Roger said flatly.
"I'm really not that short. You're all just ridiculously tall!" David huffed. "I refuse to do this."
"David, please. We don't have any other options. Shorter people around here are overlooked. You'll be able to make it around easier than us," Chris explained.
David thought. "If I do this...no more short jokes?"
"If those are your terms," Michael said.
David scuffed the ground. "Fine." He pulled his hood up and glared at the others. "I'll be back." He turned and disappeared into the crowd.
"Did you just send David out?" Gene asked.
"Yes. Were we not supposed to?" Roger inquired.
"We just need to go now." Gene slipped out into the alleyway. The other three followed behind.
"Where are we going? What was the actual purpose of sending David out?" Roger asked quietly.
"Weapons. We might need them. He knows the rendezvous, right?"
"The square with the raven?" Roger asked.
"Yes. Good. Come on. We don't have a lot of time."
Meanwhile, David was wondering around, admiring the swords. He stopped at a booth. "Excuse me," he said to the man running the booth. "I'm in need of some weaponry. For...elves."
The man cocked an eye at David. "Weaponry for elves. You do know those beasts are outcasts here, right?"
David feigned confusion. "They are? Oh, dear. I'm new here. I guess I didn't learn the rules."
"No one new is allowed to live here," the man said gruffly. He eyed David suspiciously.
"Aah, well... M-my cousin, she..." David stammered. He glanced around. Too many people, I'll get caught.
"Do I need to call the guards?" the man snarled.
Well, if I'm going to hell, now's the day to decide that. David smiled. "No, sir. My mistake." He turned away and pulled a glass jar from his belt. "But this isn't!" he shouted as he threw the bottle down. It shattered and covered the market in thick smoke. David ran over to the booth and grabbed as many weapons as he could before stealing a horse as well. He charged out of the marketplace and arrived at the Square of the Silver Raven.
"There you are!" Roger hissed. "Where'd you get a horse?!"
"Long story!" David gasped. He tossed the weapons down. "Hurry up! I may or may not have alerted the entire marketplace of my presence."
"We said to keep a low profile!" Roger fussed. "David, you-- Augh!" He grabbed a sword and swung it around. "It doesn't matter right now. Just... Come on!"
The others picked up swords as well. David held onto a bow and some arrows. "I'll stick to the horse and pick them off. Get to the dungeons!"
"I'm staying with you," Gene said.
"Don't be stupid. You need to go."
"You have less risk of being caught on a horse than we do on foot. This ring has to get back to its owner, David. No other options."
David frowned. "Then you take the horse. I'll stay behind and pick them off. Just get moving!"
David jumped down and Gene jumped up. They nodded to each other and David readied the bow. A few knives and swords were still around his feet if it came to that.
Just hurry, you four...
He loosed the arrow into the oncoming guard.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
Keith snuck into the marketplace. He looked up when a man shouted and threw a bottle down.
"Smokescreen," Greg whispered, startling Keith. "That's good cover for us too. Mike is supposed to be around here."
"Let's wait for it to clear out and see how many people are gone," Carl muttered. "The less people here, the safer we'll be."
The three stayed low and waited until the smoke cleared. Only a few people still stayed around.
"Look," Keith whispered as he pointed out a group of five men. "Why didn't they leave?"
You should leave.
Keith looked up. Why? Who are you?
The man that was communicating with Keith turned. Michael Campbell. And you're Keith Emerson, an enemy to the Revolution.
"No!" Keith shouted as he stood up. "We were told to find you! We were told you'd help!"
"You were told wrong," one of the other men said.
Keith stormed over. "Robby said you'd help."
"Calm down, you're going to attract more unwanted attention," another one of the men hissed.
"Keith!" Greg hissed as he and Carl ran over. "We need to leave. Now."
"Oh, no. You're a threat," the only man with straight hair snarled.
"Stan, stand down. Let Mike handle this," the last man said.
The only man that hadn't spoken stepped forward. "Who are you, really?"
"You were right in how you named me," Keith said steadily. "And you know who we are."
Mike tipped his head the other way. "Did you have anything to do with that smokescreen just now?"
"No."
Mike narrowed his eyes. I choose to believe you. I can see what you've been through in the past day. "But we don't need help starting a revolution. Or uniting it."
"How about leading it? Growing it?" Greg asked.
"We need their help, Mike. You know that," the first man that spoke said softly.
"I know, Benmont. But they were just controlled. They're still vulnerable to it."
Benmont frowned. "But you can change that, can't you? I mean, you did that with Ron and Howie. It shouldn't be a problem."
"Mike, we do need them. I don't care if they were just controlled, they're far stronger with the people than us. They're the ones that inspired us to revolt!" Stan hissed. "Come on."
"Howie, Ron, what do you think?" Mike asked the other two.
"They are strong," one of them muttered.
"We might as well trust them," the other said.
"You're right, Ron. We might as well." Mike closed his eyes and sighed. "It'd be easier to figure this out with stronger leaders. We've been lost without Tom."
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
Tom sat up in his bed. "Where am I? How long was I asleep?" He rubbed his face and tried to remember.
An image of Tom appeared in the room. "It's time, Tom. Get to Lielt as soon as you possibly can. The Southern Marketplace. Your companions are waiting."
Tom nodded dumbly and looked away. When he looked up again, the projection was gone. "Oh, right... I can do that." He smiled and cracked his knuckles. "Time to start a revolution in Lielt!" With that, he disappeared.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
"There's the dungeon! Hurry, Gene! We'll be fine!" Roger shouted. The horse took off faster and left Roger behind. "I hope."

Chapter Seven
Page glanced around. "When will we reach the castle?"
"Soon," Robby replied quietly.
Roger huffed. "I never understood, why is it called Rix?"
"The rulers decided on that. Right, Densy?"
Densy nodded. "That, and there are six rulers. It's a play on words."
"Six rulers?!" John quipped. "There was only one when I came here the first time!"
"Of course. They usually try to have only one visible. Safety reasons," Robby explained. "However, today all six will be there..."
The group came into view of the castle. Jimmy halted his horse.
"My God, what is this place..." The castle was split neatly down the middle, half built of rising towers, the other half built of low lying buildings.
"I thought you knew everything, Page," Roger quipped.
"This castle... This was physically distorted. Someone here has the power to completely rearrange and destroy our world."
"What?" Robby questioned.
"This castle was built by a race of superhumans. They were elves but they had some higher power about them, something I can't explain. This castle was built to only be altered by those elves. To my knowledge, the entire race was wiped out centuries ago," Jimmy explained. "These walls were made to never be broken. And yet, here we are..."
"The gates are opening," Densy interrupted. The group moved closer and passed through. "The kings...they argue a lot. Telling you now."
The doors slammed shut and the group dismounted. They handed their horses over and continued to the main room.
At the front of the large room sat two large tables, angled toward each other. Three chairs sat at each table. No one was in the chairs. A herald called the group to kneel and six men entered. They all eyed the group warily. In unison, they took their seats.
"Why have you come here?" one asked.
"We're supposed to ask the questions!" another from the other table snapped.
"It's our kingdom! You three took over!" the first snapped back.
"Well, if--"
"My kings!" Jimmy called. "We were called."
The three at the first table frowned. "We never called for you..."
"We did," the three at the second table replied.
"We're supposed to discuss these things!"
"We're in desperate need for trainers! When Sar attacks--"
Jimmy stepped forward. "Sar will be engaging in no attacks in the near future. I am aware that Rix has a standing allegiance to Lielt. Am I correct?"
"Of course you're correct," the first table spoke. "That was supposed to be broken years ago."
"We need their strength."
One at the first table stood up. "We do not!"
Page frowned. "You're still in it because three of you are compromised..." The three at the second table stiffened. "And I know which ones."
"Page, you and yours will depart at once," one from the second table hissed.
"We will not!" Roger snapped as he stood beside Jimmy. John took a step forward as well. Robby and Densy hesitated but joined the others.
A glint of green flickered across Jimmy's eyes. "You listen to me. Three of you must step down. The other three are the only true rulers. They are the descendants of the great race that built this castle, the rightful heirs. The three that do not belong must leave immediately."
"You realize the second you remove us, Lielt and Rix will join forces and take you down?" the second table hissed.
Page flipped his cape and tilted his head back. His eyes sparked a deadly green. "Rix will be under the proper rule. They will break the alliance. Stand down or face consequences."
The three of the second table stood and braced themselves. "We will not."
"You do know who I am, correct?"
"A page! Hardly a worthy opponent."
Jimmy smirked. "I have more power than you know. You will learn."
"You were brought down in the war! You had your power stripped from you! You are nothing now!"
"I am more than you know. Stand down."
"We will not."
Jimmy sighed. "Roger, John. Make sure Lee, Lifeson and Peart are protected. I need to deal with the other three."
"Yes sir," Roger mumbled. He and John slipped away toward the first table.
"Robby, John. Follow them."
The other two left Page's side.
"I will offer escape one more time. Stand down or regret it." Page closed his eyes and cracked his knuckles.
"We will not!"
A smile crept onto Jimmy's face. "Very well." His eyes snapped open. An eerie green glow emitted from them. No other color shone through. "Emerson, Lake and Palmer. You're time has come."
Jimmy let out a cry as the three charged at him. Pure energy crackled around Page making the entire area spark. Roger paused for a moment.
"I didn't know he could do that..." he mumbled.
"Of course he can. Page is also a descendant of the race that built this place. Neil and Alex aren't as much as I am, but we all are. Page is a hybrid of multiple races. The highest elves, the most powerful mind readers, the strongest sorcerers, and the most battle-hardened humans. He could easily be considered a type of god."
Roger nodded slightly. "Of course he can..." He pulled his sword. "And I'm damn sure to be his second." He charged down the stairs and swung, striking one of the enemies.
"What is wrong with you?!" the one he struck snarled.
"I stand by my country!" Roger screamed.
"Go after him, Carl! Don't stand there! Greg and I can deal with Page!" the one snapped.
Carl nodded and jumped at Roger.
"Should we join them?" John asked.
"No. No no no. We shouldn't. We need to get to safety," Robby jumped in. The three rulers nodded.
"We can offer more assistance by not being in the way," Neil said.
"Alright. Then, let's find somewhere safe," Densy said.
Carl swung at Roger and struck him down. "You'll die for this!" He brought his dagger down.
Roger flinched. He threw his hand up to stop the blade. The knife pierced his hand and shattered his ring.
"Brian..." he whispered as another blade came down on his chest.
Page froze when he heard the sound. "Roger!" He flew at Carl and slammed him down.
"Bad mistake, Page..."
Jimmy whipped around right as the other two crashed into him. The glow in his eyes died.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
Robert fell to the ground. "My Page! My Page!" he cried. He took a shaky breath in. "Arise... Arise!" he screamed.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
"Hah...hah, that was too easy..." Greg huffed.
"Far too easy. He's too old to fight anymore," Keith laughed.
"Too easy to overpower. And his friend was too easy to kill as well," Carl scoffed.
The three stood up and smiled wickedly. They turned to walk back to their thrones.
A spark of energy flashed between Jimmy's fingers. "That's what you think..." He jumped up and the three turned back around. "Never turn your back on the body."
The room exploded with light.

Chapter Ten
Jim shook his head. Jonesy glanced at him. "Are you alright, Jim?"
"Am I alright? Am I alright?! No, I'm not alright, you fool!" Jim screamed.
Cory jumped up on the cart. "Hey, calm down. Nothing about what just happened was okay, but don't blow up over it. We're closer than we were before."
"But we're about to go to war."
"Then that's how it is. Jim, you need to calm down. Where's your friend right now?"
"Ray?"
"Yes. Where is he?"
Jim blinked. "I don't know." He held up his necklace. "Look." Cory carefully took the crystal. "It's dying."
"But he's not. It's strong enough to be rejecting my touch." He let the crystal fall back into Jim's hand. "Just...try to talk to him."
Jim nodded and closed his eyes. He focused his whole being into the crystal. Please, please answer me.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
Ray jolted up and hit his head on the ceiling. His head was burning and thoughts were racing through his mind. "My ring. My ring. It's gone!"
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
"Out! Out, you rats!" the kitchen lady shouted as she swung a broom at the two men.
"We just wanted some bread, lady!" the shorter out shouted back.
The other one grabbed the short one's cape. "C'mon, David. We're not getting it," he huffed. He dragged his companion halfway down the hall. His friend struggled and clawed at his hand the whole time.
"But RoJim!" the struggler gasped.
"I told you not to call me that!" the handler snapped.
"No, seriously! Roger, stop. Stop. Stopstopstopstopsto--"
Roger stopped. "What?!"
David went straight-faced. "I saw a ring."
Roger frowned. "No, you didn't. You said that last time too. We're not turning around this time just to find some long lost ring of your ancestors! It probably burned up in a volcano or something."
"Hey! Enough with the short remarks! I did see a ring this time. It had a ruby set in it. It was glowing, Jim!" David enthused. He ran back down the hallway.
"David! I hope all of the short gods damn you!" Roger shouted as he followed. When he caught up, David did have a ring.
"See? It's glowing. You don't think..." David looked up at Roger. "It's not..."
"No way." Roger picked it up. "Oh, gods, it is!"
"How does it work?"
Roger shrugged. "No clue. Gene might know."
"Or Chris."
Roger looked at David. "We'd have better luck giving it to Michael."
David stuck his tongue out at Roger.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
Jim sat back at looked at Cory. "It didn't work."
"Try again."
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
David readjusted his cape. "So... Is it re--"
"I've answered that," Roger huffed.
"I just wanna know."
"And I don't know."
"Okay, okay."
David glanced at the ring. "Don't even think of it," Roger mumbled. He slipped the ring on his finger. "I wear it. Don't try to even-- Ow!" He ripped the ring off. David ran over and grabbed it before it rolled away. "Don't put it on!"
"Why, will it make me invisible?" David jeered. He slipped it on. "Ooh, ouch! Why is it hot?! Roger!"
"I don't know!"
"Get it off!"
Roger grabbed the ring and yelped. "It's too hot!"
"What are you two doing!?" a new person asked.
Roger grabbed David's wrist and waved his hand around. "He found a ring, Chris! And it's burning his hand!"
"Then take it off!" Chris exclaimed.
"Listen, I'd love to! But I can't! It's like it's burning into my hand!" David snapped.
"Let me try."
Roger stopped Chris. "Trust me. That's a bad idea."
"Says the guy who just tried to steal a loaf of bread," Chris scoffed. He barely even touched the ring before recoiling. "God, that's hot. Hey, Michael, c'mere."
A very tall man approach. "What?"
Chris pointed at the ring. "David found something. For once. It's hot."
"Hot like...he stole it? Or hot like it's burning his hand hot?"
"Burning!" David screamed. "It's burning my hand! My finger's gonna fall off!"
"Well, then you wouldn't have this problem," Michael said flatly.
"Say that again and I'll stab you," David growled.
"Relax. It was a joke."
"Didn't sound like it!"
"Why are you still holding his wrist, Jim?" Chris asked suddenly.
"I don't have an answer for that," Roger said as he let go. "Where's Gene. He'll know what to do."
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
"Someone has it..." Jim mumbled. "But it's like I can't reach them either. It must be cracked."
Cory touched the necklace. "Don't you think that's hot?" Jim made a face. "The crystal isn't hot?"
"No, it's... Someone has it then. Definitely. It only gets hot if someone has it when they aren't supposed to," Jim muttered. Answer me. Who are you?
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
"The voices are back!" David exclaimed suddenly.
"What?!" the other three said.
"I don't know how to answer you!" David fussed. "I don't know who you are!"
Use your mind.
"My what?"
Of course, an idiot. Why do you have Ray's ring?
"Ray? Who's Ray?" David asked. He held the ring up to his face. "Can you hear me through this ring? Are you trapped in there?"
No! Hell, okay... Okay. Take the ring off.
"But it's hot."
"I'm starting to get concerned," Chris whispered to the other two.
It shouldn't be now since we're talking. Take it off and give it to someone else.
"Oh. Okay." David winced as he took the ring off. "Oh! It's not hot anymore. Here, RoJim. There you go."
"I don't want it!" Roger snapped. "Give it to Chris!"
"What?! Why me! Give it Michael!"
"Give it me," another person sighed. He took the ring and put it on his finger. Okay, who are you.
Someone who actually answers. Impressive. Why do you have Ray's ring?
I'm going to assume either Roger and David stole it or they found it because your friend lost it.
By the gods...
The new man took it off. "Where'd you find this?"
"B-by the kitchens," David muttered. "What were you just--"
"Don't question it. We need to find its owner."
"Gene, we're kind of still outlaws here," Michael muttered. "We can't just walk around freely."
"It came from the dungeons," Gene explained. "We have to return it. I have a feeling I know whose it is."
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
"Whoever answered it the second time knows what it is," Jim said.
"That's a good thing," Cory said.
"Hey, hate to break this up, but... We need to be going," John said.
"But we just caught these!" Danny shouted as he held up two rabbits. Chuck huffed and dropped the three he had.
"Bring them. They'll hold for a while," John said. "Get everyone together, we need to move out."
"I'm going to stay here and work this out with Cory," Jim said to John. The former Rider nodded and called for Jonesy to join him up front.
Chuck and Danny tossed the rabbits onto the cart and then jumped up themselves. Brian stiffened when he saw the rabbits and stiffened more when he saw the other two. Mick sat down beside Brian and looked forward.
"We reach the border with Lielt tomorrow," he mumbled.

Chapter One
"Ray!" Jim shouted as he ran over to his friend. "Have a safe travel and don't get killed!"
Ray laughed. "When have I ever been killed, Jim?"
The Mind Reader smiled. "Never. Good luck."
The Healer nodded. "It's appreciated. I'll be back soon enough. Stay safe."
With that, the man started off. Jim watched him go to the stable and get his horse. He mounted the horse and clicked his tongue. The man set off.
"Be safe," Jim whispered. "I'll miss you so much..."
The dark haired man turned back and went up to the castle.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
The King Farrokh sat on his throne, remembering a day five years ago that changed his entire life. He looked around at the Grand Hall. Five years ago, he was watching a tired old jester preform the same tired old tricks as always. His page Page stood beside his prince throne and stared coldly at anything that moved. He remembered his parents laughing weakly at the jester. His sister had always been able to skip out on things like this.
Farrokh smiled and closed his eyes. A reedy voice hit his ears.
"Your Majesties... There is a peasant that wishes to speak to you."
Farrokh remembered his father dully answering the messenger.
"Your Majesties. I wish to join the Royal Guard."
The voice still seemed so close and real, Farrokh swore he wasn't dreaming anymore.
"Your Majesty. Sire. Farrokh. Freddie!"
The king jolted up. "Oh. I..."
The knight smiled. "Remembering the first time you saw me or something?"
"A little, yes... What did you need, Brian?"
The knight looked away, the smile leaving his face. "Ray set out." He turned back. "Freddie. I'm worried. Something doesn't seem right about this. We received no word back from the messengers we sent out before him. I'm just..."
"You're paranoid. Ray is the best man for this job. He's given out our olive branch to all of the surrounding countries, even to ones further away. He'll come to no danger." Freddie stood up and descended the throne.
Brian frowned. He cleared his throat. "I--"
Freddie turned back quickly. "Brian. That's enough."
The knight went rigid. "Excuse me...?"
"I said that's enough," Freddie hissed.
"I don't quite think you get it," Brian said coolly. "When I get a bad premonition like this, it usually ends bad. You know that."
"I also know that when I say that's enough, I mean that's enough." The king stormed back up the stairs to Brian. "Bring it up again and I may just dismiss you to the guillotine. Do you think that I forgot how you let Richards escape?" Freddie hissed.
"Considering how I hold it to myself, no." Brian squared his shoulders and bowed curtly. "Your Majesty." He walked quickly away and out the doors. Freddie watched him go out. He sank back onto the throne.
"How did it get to be like this?" he wondered.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
"Hah!" the man leapt forward and jabbed with his dagger.
"Faster!" Page shouted. "You have to be fast!"
Roger screamed and lunged forward again, this time striking his target. "Oh, dear God forgive, me! Page, did I hurt you?"
Jimmy rubbed the cut on his arm. "No. No harm done. It's just a little cut."
"But--"
"It's fine. You did what you needed to. I'm impressed," the commander said.
Suddenly, an arrow shot between the two. Roger smiled broadly. "John's back!"
The young man trotted in on his horse. He waved at the two men.
"Well?" Page asked.
"They're willing to accept the trade!" John said excitedly. He slipped off the horse and walked over. He embraced Roger and shook Jimmy's hand.
"That's wonderful," Jimmy said.
John nodded. "Yes, it--"
"What's the stipulation?" a voice broke.
Jimmy rolled his eyes. "I'm sure there's no stipulation, Jim."
The Mind Reader walked over. "There is. I can see John trying to hide it."
The young man frowned. "Well... They'll only accept it if..."
Page glared slightly. "If?"
"If we send our strongest and fastest trainers..."
Jimmy and Roger looked at each other.
"That means us, doesn't it?" Roger asked.
The older nodded. "Unfortunately. If we go, we'll be out three of our country's strongest defenders."
John looked up. "They won't keep their contract unless we do this. We can't afford to go to war with Rix."
The former page nodded solemnly. "Very well. Roger, prepare our supplies. We head out tomorrow. I need to inform the king."
Page turned swiftly towards the castle, his cape fluttering slightly.
Roger sighed. "I wish you hadn't said that, Jim..." The young man looked up but the Mind Reader was gone. "Did you see him leave, Deaks?"
John shook his head. "No. He was just here, though... Oh, right. I need to go back with you two, otherwise we may not be granted total safe passage."
"That's fine. Might as well help me out, then..."
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
Two men fought silently in the forest. The shorter ducked and swirled around the taller. The taller lunged and jumped around the shorter. It looked almost as if the two were dancing. The shine of a dagger shot out and scrapped the taller.
"God damn you, Roger!" the taller swore.
The two fell away from each other and readied themselves again. The daggers in their hands glistened and the sweat on their faces shone. They were about to go at each other again when a spear struck the ground in front of them. The two froze and dropped into defensive crouches.
"Relax, it's just me..." came a heavy sigh.
Roger stood up and tussled his golden curled hair. "Why are you here?"
The man stepped forward and flipped his own golden curled hair. "This is where I train."
"Find some other place, Plant. We were here first," the tall man growled.
"But, Pete. That isn't very kind of you..." the new man cooed.
Pete glared. "You abandon us to the Dark Hand. I have the right to treat you coldly, Robert."
Robert tilted his head slightly. "You're still upset about that?"
"You three! May need to see you!" came a booming voice. Another person stumbled out of the thicket. "Good God, you like to hide!"
"What do you want, John?" Robert asked, annoyed.
The man with the mustache shook his hair out. "Brian need to talk to you three. I guess he's taking us four on a mission or something?"
Pete frowned. "A mission?"
"Yeah. Something about trying to find Richards and off him for good," John said with a shrug.
Roger laughed. "There is no way we will ever find that bastard. He's gone for good."
"That's what I said but no... Brian's insistent. Says his position lies on killing Richards."
Robert shook his head. "Don't pay any mind. He and Farrokh got into an argument earlier. Words were said but nothing was meant."
John frowned. "I think it was this time. It doesn't matter why, all I know is Brian is getting upset and requested that I find you three."
The four men started back toward the castle.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
Brian met them on the front lawn. "Where were you three?"
"In the forest," Pete replied calmly. "Did you need something?"
Brian turned away. "We have to find Richards. We have no choice. You four are the strongest left in the kingdom once Page, Deacon, and Taylor leave."
"What about Moon and Entwistle?" Roger asked.
"We need someone to stay here," Brian sighed. "Get ready. We're leaving in two hours."
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
Jim threw the rock as hard as he possibly could. He picked up another one and went to throw it when someone grabbed his wrist.
Jim wretched his wrist free and swung at the person. The person grabbed his fist and slammed him to the ground.
"That's not a very kind greeting, Jim," the person said.
Jim sat up and rubbed his head. "I should say the same to you, Jones..."
"Lay off, man. You know Deacon is very strict about me not injuring my neck again," Brian scoffed.
Jim stood up and dusted his shirt off. "You know, Brian... I'm getting sick with worry about Ray. Something isn't sitting right."
"Richards."
Jim looked up. "What?"
Brian frowned. "He's not dead. No one knows where he went. I think he took that country over. Look at it this way, Jim. Lielt has been under no true rule for centuries. It would only make sense that Richards would go there."
"Then Ray is doomed."
"Basically."
Jim shook his head and closed his eyes. He touched the crystal on his neck. Please. Be safe.
>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<>*<
Near the border of Sar and Lielt, Ray stopped his horse. He touched the ring on his finger and closed his eyes. I will. Don't worry. I'll be fine.
With that, he opened his eyes and clicked his horse forward across the border.
Little did Ray know, he was being watched.
