Throwback Thursday: Liberace Mansion historic designation

The Clark County Commission granted historic designation to the Liberace Mansion on March 2, 2016! Owned by the musical prodigy and pop culture legend, the mansion was not only Liberace’s home but a fixture in his broadcasts. (He famously did one TV segment in his gilded tub while bubbles filled the air around him.) 

The son of Italian and Polish immigrants, the musician was born Władziu Valentino Liberace in Wisconsin. Liberace started playing piano at age four and by seven was performing memorized works by the great composers. Liberace -- also known as Mr. Showmanship -- would eventually go on to great success by combining classical music with elaborate stage shows and costumes as well as an extravagant public image including rhinestone-encrusted cars and his catch-phrase, "Too Much of a Good Thing Is Wonderful.” Elvis Presley was said to be a fan and incorporated his gold suit in the 1950s and his jeweled capes and jumpsuits in the 1970s at Liberace’s suggestion -- both of which are now indelibly linked to Elvis’ image -- after the two met in Las Vegas.
