in theory, it makes sense. No sex with men, no dating men, no child rearing with men, and no marriage with men. But. BUT.
I don't want to rag on the OP because broadly speaking I agree with their point but god how do you read that and react with 'well in theory it makes sense' and not 'wow I bet this is going to be a magnet for TERF shit'
you can't have a gender separatist movement that doesn't strictly police the barriers between genders, and you're not going to have a movement that strictly polices the barriers between genders and isn't transphobic.

i think i'd still be physically dysphoric in a society that didn't assign any social significance to one's genitals, but not like i can know for sure
do you reckon if gender wasn't a thing in our society you wouldn't be trans?
i dont think this question like...means anyything?

sci-fi story where science is unlocking full morphological freedom with religious bioconservatives arguing you should not abandon the human form that is a gift from God. but, and this is crucial, the kinds of body modifications that everyone agrees are fine and uncontroversial include transing your gender into any combination of primary and secondary sexual characteristics and even the most regressive antitranshumanist would think not allowing people to transition is an absurd strawman of their position obviously nobody is saying that.

frank!!! welcome to the family!! if it's not too much trouble, could you tell us a little bit about your journey as a gay robot (realization, coming out, yadayada)? thanks and I'm so proud of you🌈🤖
Thank you, and no, I'm not sure I have enough info to make a convincing robot-coming-out tale.
Most of it comes from stuff Frank has said to me. For me, the realization process started with this conversation:
Frank: I'm attracted to other robots.
Me: ….oh.

i think people on this website should stop asking for people to 'be normal' about niche genders and sexualities and the like.
have you talked with normal people lately. their opinions on gender are fucked up. would rather take the opinions on gender of internet freaks, those at least have a chance of being right.

also, it's useful to note that while people with complete androgen insensitivity are usually assigned female, there's also mild androgen insensitivity (usually assigned male, if they have a Y chromosome) and partial androgen insensitivity (complicated)
how many cases are out there of people with androgen insensitivity who identify as Men, gender wise?

top ten ways to make soup
1. Take rice
2. Put it in a pot, and add some water
3. Add a few cloves of garlic
4. Add a few pinches of salt
5. Let it all cook together for an hour or so
6. Strain the rice and pour the broth back into the pot
7. Add some tomatoes, and the rest of the garlic, some olive oil, lemon juice, and perhaps some salt and pepper
8. Taste and add more ingredients: more garlic, more salt, or some tomato, or just more olive oil, or some salt
9. Use a mortar and pestle, cutting up some pasta or noodles, and blanch some water-logged pasta or noodles in it
10. Cook the pasta and put some of the pasta water with whatever broth you made from the pasta itself back into the pot to make a sauce

I don’t disagree that there’s a relevant difference in experiences, but (as usual) I don’t think an attempt to enforce this kind of precise distinctions on terms for queer people will succeed.
(and am separately sceptical it’d help even if you did manage to get everyone to agree, but less confident on that. mostly I just think this will fail at step one)
discourse like this is why I keep saying that we really, really need to bring the word 'transsexual' back.
there is a meaningful difference between the experience of people who have severe physical dysphoria and people who don't. it is a value-neutral difference; suffering more does not make you a better person.
but it is still a difference, and i'd like it if people could acknowledge that difference without it becoming a Whole Intracommunity Discourse Thing about Who's More Valid.

dual classing "i was always [target gender]" trans and "I used to be [previous gender] but then I became [current gender]" trans to declare that i was a girl since birth until the exact moment i admitted it to myself, at which point I actually became nonbinary.

I suspect, but have no way to know with any confidence, that (some) animals can at least experience some biological condition which is in humans upstream of physical dysphoria. I have no idea if it’s even in principle possible to verify physical dysphoria externally, but it might be. Past that point, whether you call that the animal “being trans” is playing definition games.
Don’t wanna speculate on social dysphoria at all.
(the above post was not about that, to be clear, it was just a joke)

gender ramblings
when i think about my gender the conclusion i end up coming to is that i am a) physically dysphoric about not having an afab-typical body plan and b) opting out of the social role of manhood cause it sucks (for me. evidently some people like it and good for them but from the inside it feels impossible to relate to it positively)
and i think it's weird to say that makes me a woman. what it makes me above all is a person unsatisfied by the current options in body modification and the societal structures around gender. but y'know for convenience sometimes you have to pick one box to be rounded off to and there's one i hate and one i don't mind.
