a/n ♥︎ - HELP THE ENDING SOUNDS SO SHITTY AND CHEESY, AND THE TITLE I COULDNT FIGURE OUT ANYTHING GOOD FOR BUT ANYWAYSSSSS, lexie i am so sorry it took so long to write this, i started writing this but ended up stopping due to writers block but here it is! Also kae i promise im working on yours now!!

Ethan had first spotted you when the friend group had dragged him to go see a movie that they had all been wanting to see in theaters. He thought seeing a movie in theaters was kind of dumb since why pay extra and buy snacks and drinks when you can just wait for it to come out and watch it at home or get it illegally. 

It wasn't as bad as having to go to one of those frat parties Chad dragged him to but it was a movie he didn't want to go watch. At least seeing you made it bearable. 

You were gorgeous to say the least. Ethan is pretty sure he's seen you somewhere other than here before.

"Hey isn't that the girl from our english class?" Chad asked Tara, with a nudge to the shoulder.

"Yeah I think she is!" Tara replied.

"Isn't she also dating that idiot jock who wanted to fight you Chad?" Mindy asked, leaning over to join into the conversation.

Ethan frowned at hearing this until Tara said something else.

"No that's a rumor I think, the jock, Steve I think, is dating that idiotic airhead."

"Oh yeah! Y/n, i think that's her name is single or something."

Sam gasps dramatically and looked back at Chad, "You better not be planning to take her out because if you break Tara's heart, I will go Billy Loomis on you."

Everyone laughed and Chad put on a shocked face as they walked up to the ticket booth to get the tickets. Sam bought the tickets and Tara, Mindy, and Ethan went to the concession stand to buy popcorn and drinks.

"Hey y/n! I didn't know you worked here!" Tara said with a bright smile

You looked at her and grinned, "Yeah! I work here part time afterschool and on the weekends cause I'm trying to be more independent"

"Ohhh makes sense, maybe I should get a part time job too, to help Sam out."

"Please don't, then Sam will feel like she's not needed," Quinn said, coming up behind Tara with Sam and Chad. 

"Hi Sam, Quinn, Chad, and boy I do not know" you said looking at Ethan, not noticing him before.

Chad came up next to Ethan and put an arm around him, "This is my best man, Ethan Landry, I don't think you guys have any classes together right?"

"I don't think we do but it's nice to meet you anyway." Ethan said with a smile.

"Yeah, nice to meet you too! Alright guys you better order now since there's a line waiting behind yall"

The group ordered and you gave them their food and drinks and waved goodbye to them. Little did you know that this wasn't going to be the last time you saw Ethan, especially not with the way he looked at you while leaving.

After that day, you hadn't seen him but he definitely saw you. He came everyday after school to watch you.

Ok that sounds a bit fucked up but hey there's no harm in just watching someone…and maybe even learning their work schedule.

After a week or two of watching you, Ethan becomes somewhat enamored. Unfortunately for him, this did not go unnoticed by you.

The first time you actually noticed is when one of your coworkers nudged you and told you something that you didn't quite like…

"Y/n, y'know the guy who always comes after school?"

"What guy?" you asked puzzled

She pointed to Ethan who quickly looked away and looked at his phone.

"Oh yeah i know him, he's friends with some people i know"

"Well i think he's pretty cute and has been coming here almost everyday. I think he might like me"

You frown at the thought, you may or may not have developed feelings for the guy and were praying your coworker wasn't going to ask him out

"Im gonna ask him out"

You watch as she goes up to Ethan but start giggling once you see that Ethan shakes his head and looks back at his phone

"Damn he didn't like you huh?" you say as she returns huffing

"Yeah like what the fuck, he literally said he liked someone else"

You laugh and continue working, you want to ask him out or something but you're unsure on how to.

After a few days you decide to go up to him and just ask him why he's always at the theater

You come up to him with a drink

"Hey ethan!"

He looks up and smiles at you

"Hey y/n, what do i owe the pleasure?"

"Well I've noticed you're always around so i decided to just bring you a drink"

"Oh thanks! You uh noticed?"

"Well not immediately but one of my coworkers pointed it out to me, she's the one who asked you out"

"Oh yeah i remember her, i actually don't like her, i come here…well dont take this the wrong way but to watch you" ethan says looking down embarrassed.

"Aww that's actually really cute, do you wanna maybe go see a movie this weekend?"

"Yeah! That would be great, could i get your number?" 

You hand him your phone and he gives it back shortly after

"Alright I'll see you then eth!"

"Yeah cya" he says with a grin

  The fall of King Steve didn’t bother Steve too much, particularly because he realised that the “King Steve” personna was not all that it was cracked up to be. And, because he had more important things in life then popularity. Y/N Wheeler being one of them. He had always noticed her. When she was sitting in the cafeteria with her friends or walking around the parking lot at school. Somehow, he never realised why he would always notice her. Not even when he was dating her sister last year or when he had rescued her from the demogorgon before he even knew what a demogorgon was, had he realised. It wasn’t until they were in that junkyard with a gaggle of kids, beating off a herd of demodogs. He remembered the moment so clearly. 

  He was out there by himself, a stupid decision on his part, surrounded by creatures straight from his nightmares. He had failed to notice one creeping up on him, belly to the ground - ready to pounce. He could hear the creek of the bus door being forced open, the startled calls of the kids behind him. His heart was beating too loud to hear what they were saying, his bat wound up. Whirling around to yell at them for opening the door, his words died in his throat when he saw the demodog spring from the ground towards him. A scream ripped from his throat as he stumbled backwards, falling on his ass, his eyes wide. 

  Just before the creature landed on him, another body side checked it, causing it to fall to the dirt with a thud. Breathing heavily, Steve looked up at his saving grace, seeing Y/N standing there, another bat raised high in the air as the demodog jumped back up, growling at her. The moonlight rained down on her like a spotlight from where Steve sat on the ground. In that moment, he swore he could see a halo around her head. “Steve,” She yelled, eyes never leaving the demodog as it stalked towards her. “What the hell are you doing,” She cried, snapping him back to reality. “Get your ass up! You might as well be bait if you’re just gonna sit there!” 

  A loud snarl ripped through the air as the demodog lunged at her before a loud thud was heard followed by a yelp. Steve’s eyes landed on movement from the shadows, seeing a monster emerging, their stomach low to the ground, their weird petal-like lips ripping in silent growls. His eyes widened and his blood ran cold when he saw it was headed right for Y/N. “Watch out!” He yelled, springing up from the ground, his hand grabbing his bat from the dirt beside him. In one fluid motion, he pulled the bat back and aimed it right at the creature, the nails embedding into its head. 

  “There are too many, Steve,” She yelled as the demodog Steve just shook off the hit, its skin regenerating from where the nails dug into its skull. “We need to get back on the bus,” Her chest rose and fell in panic, their backs hitting each other. For a second, it was like the electricity her touch sent through Steve’s body electrocuted his brain, stopping all brain activity for a moment. “Steve!” She yelled when he didn’t respond in any way.

  “You run for the bus, I will be right behind you!” Steve ordered her. He felt her back leave his, a sign she wasn’t wasting anytime to follow his orders. He responded equally as fast, whirling around to see her converse covered feet touch the bottom step for point five seconds before she launched herself into the bus. 

  “Steve!” She yelled, launching him into movement. His sneakers beat against the loose dirt, creating a cloud around his feet. He could feel the thundering footfalls of the monsters behind him. So much adrenaline was rushing through him that he blacked out, unsure if his feet even hit the steps of the bus before the door was being slammed shut, his body curled up by the seat, his head somehow landing on Y/N’s lap. 

  Breathless, he shifted his head, looking up at her. Equally as breathless, she looked down at him. Her face had a few smudges of dirt on them, her hair tangled. “I was right behind you.” Was the only thing he could manage to say as the sight of her this close to him took the little breath he had away from him.

  Right now, as he watched her float down the hall, totally engrossed in her conversation with her friend from her science class, he could care less about no longer being “King Steve” knowing that he was the reason he wasted so much time not loving her. Sure, there were questions in his head before the junkyard incident about his feelings towards the Wheeler girl, but he was with Nancy - her twin sister (another thing he was kicking himself for). He just viewed every moment leading up to the destruction of “King Steve” as a waste of time when he was not worshipping the ground she walked on. A waste of time where he could have been holding her, not Nancy who boosted his popularity. 

  Closing his locker, he watched her as she made her way through the busy halls. She was so completely unaware of his eyes on her as she chatted happily about her upcoming summer plans. Steve secretly hoped she would frequent his new job at an ice cream parlour in the new Starcourt Mall. He wanted to see her in sundresses, standing at the counter as she waited for her ice cream cone. He wanted to see her eyes light up when she talked. He wanted to see the different outfits she pieced together. Jean shorts and a band shirt, a skirt and a blouse, or any combination she thought was comfortable for the heat of the day.   

  A commotion further down the hall pulled him from his daydreams, seeing it was coming from the mass of people Y/N had just disappeared into. Hoisting his half empty bookbag higher onto his shoulder, he rushed through the crowd, his heart hammering in his chest as the worst possible scenarios rolled through his head. The sight he saw did nothing to calm his racing heart, in fact, it probably made it worse. 

     There stood Billy, standing high above the crowd as he smirked down at Y/N, his tongue darting out to flick over his bottom lip. “If you want me to move, you need to make it worth my while, Sweetheart.” He winked at her. Steve could see he was resting against her locker, his blue eyes looking down at her as if she were another challenge. Another notch in his belt once he got his way. 

  “I would rather stick my hand in the bin of gym socks.” Y/N sneered up at him, her chemistry and biology books clasped to her chests. Steve could see the way she pressed them to her, her fingers gripping them so hard they were turning white. She might appear like she wasn’t scared of Billy, but Steve could see her fear. Especially after their interaction with the Hargrove boy this fall. 

  “Hey, Hargrove,” Steve’s voice boomed, pushing through the growing crowd as he marched towards the newly appointed “King” of Hawkins. “Just move and leave her alone,” He suggested in a way that told him it was not a suggestion. “Go find some other person to bug.” He waved the taller boy off, pushing him back in order to stand between Y/N and Billy, making sure Billy got to him first. 

  “Aw, look at this, your bodyguard is back, Wheeler,” Billy smirked, his blue eyes lighting up just like they did that night, but just like that night, Steve wasn’t backing down. “Remember what happened last time, Harrington?” Billy asked, his thumb swiping along his jaw as he set it, showing his defined muscles. 

  From behind Steve, Y/N gulped loudly, her hand reaching up to rest on Steve’s shoulder. Steve wanted so desperately to turn around and comfort her, but he knew how Billy played. He played dirty and the second Steve turned his back, he would strike when his defences were low. “Steve, I don’t want you getting hurt again-” 

  “Yeah, listen to her, Steve,” Billy said mockingly, stepping closer to the pair in order to intimidate Steve. “Walk away before I hurt you again.” 

  “You have a better chance of getting taken down by a 12-year-old girl again than of me backing down, Hargrove.” Steve informed him, his nose flaring dangerously. The two guys glared at each other, neither of them saying anything else as their jaws ticked. Everyone could feel the tension as they stared into each other’s eyes, waiting for the other one to back down or throw the first punch. 

  Knuckles cracked and teeth ground together as the hall fell silent, everyone waiting for the familiar sound of a fist connecting with someone’s nose. Gasps filled the hall when the sound finally came followed by a string of curses leaving Steve and Billy’s mouths. “Steve!” Y/N cried out in shock, she threw her books to the side, grabbing the back of his shirt to yank him back. With him out of the way, she could see Billy on the ground, his nose leaking blood like a broken facet. 

  Mummers filled the hall as everyone started talking about how Steve finally won a fight with only throwing one punch. “Are you okay,” Steve asked Y/N, his voice raspy. She gave him a look as she grabbed his hand from where he clutched it to his chest. “Hey,” Steve called gently, bending down slightly, his hurt hand slipping from hers to grasp her chin between his pointer finger and his thumb gently. “Are you okay?” He asked again, brown eyes pouring into hers. 

  “I am okay, Steve,” She answered him, pulling his hand from her chin to inspect it. “You didn’t need to punch him, you know.” She told him, eyes flicking up to meet his before dropping back to his blood stained knuckles. 

  “He was bugging you, of course I had to,” Steve shrugged, winching when she pressed on one of his knuckles lightly. She gave him another look, earning a sheepish smile from him in return. “I’m always right behind you. I always have your back, Y/N.” He confessed in more ways than one, wishing he could just actually confess. Perhaps, if he performed more kind gestures, she would finally see how he feels about her.

"Okay, so we'll all stay at the apartment tonight to stay safe in groups." Sam tells everyone.

"I have Econ tonight. There'll be 100s of students there so…" Ethan tells the group.

"Can't you skip?" Lexi asks worried about not everyone being together.

"I can't. I need to go. I'll call or text you when I get there and leave." He squeezes her hand while Chad rolls his eyes which everyone else catches.

"Be safe." Lexi sighs.

"I will be." He sees the look Chad had so Ethan gives Lexi a kiss before walking off.

Mindy laughs at her brother who backhands her arm, "Shut up."

Later when everyone was at the apartment, Lexi was waiting for the text from Ethan saying he was at Econ.

"Why don't you just call him your boyfriend?" Chad sits next to Lexi on the couch seeing she was staring at the messages.

"Because he's not."

"Why not? You like him. He likes you." Chad tries to get an answer out of her.

"I'm not ready. Especially now with a killer out there." Lexi leans back looking at the ceiling.

"Scared if you get too attached you'll lose him?" Chad asks so Lexi nods her head.

"Him being killed or being the killer. I don't believe he could be but he wears plaid. Richie wore plaid, Jill, Charlie, and Billy. Also blue: Billy, Mickey, Roman, Jill, Charlie, and Richie." Lexi says the theories she caught onto.

"So if someone wears blue or plaid they could be the killer? Really, Lexi?" Chad laughs.

"Do the research."

"So Tara could be the killer?" Chad points at Tara wearing blue and she looks at him confused.

"No, because it's Tara." Lexi laughs getting up to go help Tara in the kitchen.

"What's the real reason you aren't ready with Ethan to be promoted to boyfriend? Does it start with a C and ends with D?" Tara smiles at her.

"Slightly."

"I knew you still liked him." Tara smiles bigger, "You should tell him."

"No, he's my best friend and I still do like Ethan. Plus C doesn't like me like that." Lexi tells her.

"You sure about that? He tried kissing you Lex…Don't play dumb." Tara gives her a look.

"What about you two?"

"What about us? We are infinitely just friends." Tara says making that.

"Quinn said she interrupted you two when we got home from the party." Lexi tells her making her laugh.

"We were talking about you, Lexi. And him realizing he missed his shot with you." Tara explains to her.

"You told him?" Lexi whisper shouts.

"Yes, and I told you he likes you." Tara huffs as they stay quiet as Chad joins to help them out.

After long minutes of nobody speaking Lexi speaks up, "I think you should get out of the city. You know, considering how you were stabbed seven times last time. And I really don't want to put you being unkillable to the test now."

"I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to go." Tara adds.

"That's very thoughtful of you, but I'm not going anywhere without you going with me. So I think I'm staying here." Chad gives her a smile and Tara motions for him to keep going as Lexi's back was towards her but Mindy fake gags.

"Will you two just make out already? It's not like you're in a closed relationship." Mindy speaks up.

"Mindy, that is so inappropriate, dude." Chad tells his sister.

"Oh, whatever. Get it over with!" She shouts walking away from their view then joins them and so does Sam. "You know we don't exactly have to stay here. Lexi and I room together so. Mindy adds.

"I know but safety in numbers, remember."

"This will be so fun. A little slumber party with the Fab Five!" Chad smiles.

"Fab Five?" Sam asks.

"Yeah."

"Did you just give us a nickname?" Tara adds.

"I sure did. I mean we've been through a lot together, and it's a pretty cool nickname." Chad explains to the four.

"That's debatable." Sam says.

"That's very debatable." Lexi laughs.

"That's extremely debatable." Tara adds.

"You can't just give yourself a nickname, dingus." Mindy tells him.

"Of course, I can, dingus, because I just did. Fab Five, up top!" Chad puts his hand up.

"No." She tells him:

"Down low." He turns to Tara.

"Get that away from me." She shakes her head.

"Please, for the love of God." He turns to Sam now.

"Don't do it." Mindy makes everyone laugh.

"Lex, come on for me, please." Chad begs her so she just laughs at him, "I would like a little more respect and support from my fellow members of the Fab Five."

"You're making it worse." Tara tells him.

"Listen to the women." Mindy says before Anika calls them to look at the news saying the prime suspect was Sam.

Sam turns off the tv pissed off going to sit at the table so slowly everyone joins her to comfort her. "We all have been through some fucked up stuff, and we are coping with it differently. I mean, we moved here together for one very specific reason. We are a team." Chad lets Sam know.

"We are the Fab Fucking Five." Mindy adds.

"Thank you very much." Chad gets happy.

"Ah, I hate myself." Mindy says and they all laugh then joke around when Sam admits to sleeping with the guy across the hall because they all knew it.

"I feel like we should all high-five or something." Tara suggests.

The Fab Five High Five- may we, please?" Chad puts his hand up so that all join still laughing about the name.

"I gotta admit… it has a ring to it. I think I like it now." Lexi admits making Chad grab her hand shaking it.

"I told you." They all laugh.

When Sam's phone rings from Danny they all joke around more till they all get a pic of Quinn getting attacked.

"Help! Stop!" They all hear Quinn and jump up rushing to the living room. Tara runs towards the door but Lexi pulls her back not wanting her getting hurt so Chad pulls Lexi back with Tara.

It was silent till the door opens and a dead Quinn falls on Anika. Chad pulls Lexi with him so she grabs Tara making him take her while she stays back to help Mindy.

Sam ran to get a weapon while Lexi grab the closest thing throwing it at the killer. He grabs Anika looking over at Lexi and she freezes for a second thinking about her mom and Wes.

The sound of Anika's screams snaps her back so she changes at the killer so Anika drops to the ground bleeding out while Ethan tries to get Lexi off his back. He backs into the wall hard so Lexi falls off of him. As he looks down at her Sam comes up hitting him in the head so she helps Lexi up and they get Mindy and Anika running to Quinn's room locking the door. Ethan bangs on the door for a while before remembering the bathroom door connected.

"Lexi, bathroom, door." Sam whispers so Lexi rushes and sees Quinn's guy dead in the tub.

"Fuck." She goes for the door and screams seeing the killer there.

She goes to slam the door but he swings it back hitting her with it so she tumbles back. Ethan bends down picking her up by the throat and puts his knife light against her face until Sam rushes over to help with Mindy. They get the door shut and lock it but Ethan was determined to get in. They push the dresser against the door and Mindy and Lexi lean against it while Sam goes towards the window. Danny puts his ladder across and Sam goes first.

"Mindy, I'm the only one not hurt. Go!" Lexi shouts at the dresser nudges so Mindy kisses Anika. "Anika, you need to go." Lexi tells her.

"I can't. I'll go right behind you. You'll be faster than me. If I go first and he gets through, you're dead. Please, go." Anika begs her so Lexi goes to the window seeing Mindy make it across.

"Anika, when I get about halfway you start okay." Lexi tells her so she nods her head.

Lexi just keeps her eyes on the others as they kept saying keep going and looks back to see Anika already started to crawl and the killer at the window.

"Move so I can get off faster!" Lexi tells the three as they leaned out the window.

Both girls start to scream as Ethan picks up the ladder then slams it down and back up.

Lexi gets across then gets slightly back in the latter, Anika, you gotta keep moving." Lexi tries to grab her hand and the others grabbed a hold of Lexi's legs/feet.

Ethan knew Lexi was in part of the latter that barely moved so he starts to tilt the latter to get Anika to fall off. Lexi got her legs hooked and held down while she grabbed ahold of Anika's hand. Ethan finally gets it to tilt a good angle and jerked it enough for Anika's hand to slide out of Lexi's as her body weight pulled her down.

Lexi stares down at her with tears running down her face then looks back at the killer who was just starring at her getting his life back before walking away so Sam helps Lexi back in.

When Chad and Tara rejoin the group Tara hugs her sister while Chad sees Lexi comforting Mindy so he joins them.

"Your cheek." Chad see the little cut on Lexi and she didn't even realize it because of all the adrenaline.

"Oh, must have happened when Sam shoves the killer away while he held his knife against my cheek." She says in a monotone deep in her thoughts. "I can never save anyone…" She closes her eyes so Chad pulls her into his chest.

"You tried Lexi. You got back on that latter when the killer was shaking it around. You could have fell too." Mindy speaks up.

"I should've been the one to fall. She told me to go because she would've been too slow." Lexi cries into Chad's chest.

"You tried. That's all that matters." Chad kisses the top of her head.
