Part I: What is MBTI, anyway?

(Previous post: Guide Overview and navigation Following post: Cognitive Functions and stacks, broken down)

MBTI, or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, is a personality indicating test constructed by Katherine Briggs and her daughter Isabel Myers-Briggs. It was designed to assign one of 16 personality types to every person. Read more here. In essence, they distilled human personality into four axes: Extroversion/Introversion, Intuition/Sensation, Thinking/Feeling, Judging/Perceiving. Every person can be coded as a combination of letters representing one side of each dichotomy.

A short description of each letter is as follows. Jot down which you feel more accurately represents you. Note that frequently types are stereotyped and biased by the idea of less useful or intelligent traits. None of these are more or less useful traits in life.

How you acquire energy - Extroversion vs Introversion Extroversion: Oriented towards the world around you. You recharge through socializing with others, whether that's collaborating on projects often, or spending the evening at a party to cheer up. Being alone makes you restless, and you seek out groups of people. Introversion: Oriented towards your inner world. You recharge through spending time alone, whether that's working on solo projects often, or spending the evening reading a book to chill out. Being around people drains you easily, and you seek out solitude or small groups.

Many people feel they are an "ambivert", and though you might relate to components of both types, everyone does. However, there's one that describes you more than the other. The "social butterfly" and "antisocial" stereotypes have some basis, but are generally just that: stereotypes.

How you process information - Intuition vs Sensation Intuition: Characterized as imaginative, idealistic, strong in identifying underlying meaning to reality. Prefers to work with abstract ideas, nuances, and the big picture. Oriented towards the past and future, seeing possibilities and paths. Likely interested in understanding theoretical or conceptual topics, such as maths, theoretical sciences, research, philosophy/theology, and poetic/visual arts. Sensation: Characterized as down to earth, pragmatic, strong in understanding reality as it is. Prefers to work with concrete items, fundamentals, and the particular details. Oriented towards the present, seeing opportunities and sensory input. Likely interested in hands-on or tangible topics, such as trades/crafts, empirical sciences, fieldwork, health/medical, and technical/performance arts.

The names of each are somewhat misleading due to connotations. Note that Intuition doesn't mean "mystical and smart" and Sensation doesn't mean "surface-level and dumb". As well, the subjects each are interested in vary wildly, it's more dependent on how you approach the subjects.

How you make decisions - Thinking vs Feeling Thinking: Reliance on logic and reason to make decisions. May consider "what works best" and "what makes sense", rather than "what do I care most about" and "what makes me feel true to my values". Struggles with considering either personal code or group feelings in decision making, often evaluated as cool (or coldhearted), collected, or systematic. Feeling: Reliance on morals and values to make decisions. May consider "what's congruent with my preferences" and "what do I feel deep down is best", rather than "what pros outweigh cons" and "what makes sense logically". Struggles with considering fallacy or inconsistency of thought in decision making, often evaluated as warm (or hotheaded), passionate, or optimistic.

There's a tendency to allow gender to play into your self-perception here; after all, aren't "men more logical and women more sensitive"? This fallacy is uncomfortably common and can dissuade you from deciding your true type. That's where I encourage cognitive function studying the most.

How you organize the world - Judging vs Perceiving Judging: Prefers to plan each day ahead. Organized, prefers to have a plan for situations beforehand and know how to proceed. Finds routines and schedules reassuring. Often "goal" oriented over "process" oriented. May be negatively evaluated as rigid, inflexible, or micromanaging. Perceiving: Prefers to take life one day at a time. Relaxed, prefers to adapt to situations and spontaneously jump into action. Finds routines and schedules restricting. Often "process" oriented over "goal" oriented. May be negatively evaluated as lazy, indecisive, or noncommittal.

No warnings here, I find people generally know for sure which of these they fall into. Note however that Judgers are not incapable of going with the flow, and Perceivers are not incapable of creating organized plans. It really depends on which comes naturally to you instead of which skills you learned to operate in society.

How do I apply this to myself?

Easy! Determine which letter combination makes sense to you. For example, you relate to the descriptions of extroversion, sensation, feeling, and judging. Take the letters that represent each and place together as a four letter code: ESFJ.

It is okay if your type flips between a few. These descriptions are absolute boxes, when really your personality is comprised of multiple shades within and outside said boxes. This is where cognitive functions come in. If you're struggling with your type, I encourage you to keep reading into the next section.

- there's always times when i feel down or empty. like how i worry about if Berry might forget me after not seeing me for a long time and you reassuring me that she won't. because that's who you are, always reassuring me and the others if one of us is feeling stressed.

- you've always been beside me. when i was a trainee, when i debuted, when i wasn't sure about my career and all the other choices i made in these last 16 years. you could read me like an open book and knew all my struggles back then and now.

- the boys are always complaining how mushy i get when they mention you. they've also mentioned a million times when i'll propose to you, not knowing i've started planning way ahead and am planning to ask you very soon.

Hi! I followed your story since the first demo came out, so I'm really excited to start reading the polished end product. I do have a suggestion/request. You can ignore this if it's a lot of work for you to implement, but hopefully it's easily done. I play on mobile and the lettertype options to choose from all come in a rather large font size. In the setting menu there is the option to increase the font size, but not to make it smaller. It will help the readability on mobile if decreasing the letters size became an option. Good luck with writing the next part. I'll be along for the journey :)

I am going to try and get this into the next patch update. I agree with you. There needs to be an option to downsize. I was putting together the DLC and noticed the same thing.

Wasn't sure whether to use the same lettertype I used for my previous experiment pieces or go for the original font that's fitting to the series itself, though I feel like this one was more fitting in the end with it's roundness~ but yeah as you can see I couldn't let it to turn my sona/mascot into a stitch experiment too, and for once not a purple one ...but colors I usually wouldn't pick at first. they felt fitting enough to "CARAMEL" themed colors that I just wanted to stick with it :'D  I'm also planning on doing flat colored reference of the front and backshot so people have a better idea on her patterns and colors.

I also did a small bit of info on her because I seem to do that for most sona's even if they aren't like your fully fleshed out usual characters. 

Special powers: Capable of morphing creatures into cats with a simple meow. the effect wears off after a day.(she's also a good distraction for anyone who can't resist cute kitties SNORT)

Fandom, I need your help

I accidentally bought the 1st book double (I have book 1 and 2 in a omnibus, and I want them seperately too, I found book 1 second hand, and wasn't sure which one I already had)

The books aren't the same thickness, and though the lettertype is different sizes, it made me think, wasn't there one of the books with a missing conversation that was quite important? And wasn't this in book one?

If yes, I tried finding the document of the conversation, but couldn't for the life of me find it

Vandaag gingen we aan de slag met de laptops. Het volledige schooljaar hebben we voor elke leerling een laptop ter beschikking. Vandaag maakten we onze verjaardagskalender in Word. We leerden kopiëren en plakken, bestanden opslaan , lettertypes veranderen en woorden in kleuren zetten.

We hebben een aantal tabbladen toegevoegd in de Markdown- en HTML-modussen van de berichteditor op het web om te identificeren waar je bent en om je een voorbeeld van je bericht te geven.

Een probleem opgelost met de instellingenpagina voor je blog op het web waarbij het lettertype van je blogtitel op zowel de titel als de beschrijving werd toegepast. Nu wordt het alleen op de titel toegepast.

We hebben de breedte van de tool tips voor je berichten met Blaze aangepast zodat deze nu beter leesbaar zijn.

Een probleem opgelost waarbij de scrolbalk afwezig was in de GIF-zoekfunctie op het web.

Een probleem opgelost waarbij de nieuwe berichteditor niet automatisch naar het toetsenbord overschakelde wanneer je een nieuw citaat of chatberichten op het web wilde opstellen.

Wanneer je een bestaand bericht in de nieuwe berichteditor op het web opende, wordt het caret-symbool nu aan het einde van het bericht geplaatst in plaats van aan het begin. 

Een probleem opgelost waardoor je je Jaaroverzicht niet via de Android- of iOS-apps kon aanmaken.

Een aantal problemen opgelost met je Jaaroverzicht. Als je eerder problemen had, of als verschillende topberichten native video’s bevatten, probeer het dan opnieuw.

De pijpleiding voor het plaatsen van berichten in de wachtrij kon tijdens piekmomenten geblokkeerd raken waardoor berichten in de wachtrij met vertraging werden geplaatst. We hebben de pijpleiding verstevigd zodat alle berichten op tijd worden geplaatst.

We hebben ons oEmbed endpoint bijgewerkt zodat het nu at.tumblr.com links wanneer externe diensten Tumblr-berichten proberen te embedden.

🚧  Nog mee bezig

Sommige mensen die de Android-app gebruiken hebben ons laten weten dat de app crasht wanneer ze Tumblr proberen te openen. Als jou dit ook overkomt, laat het ons dan weten via een supportverzoek (als je dat nog niet hebt gedaan).
