Dastardly David, Gentleman Goliath and the Underdog Syndrome
It’s natural to cheer on the underdog – after all, who can’t help but encourage the plucky young bloke taking on a vastly more experienced and far bigger pugilist in the ring, only to win through sheer determined effort and some clever moves, whilst he leaps nimbly from foot to foot?
The classical underdog story is David and Goliath; the former, a fresh-faced youngster with nothing but a slingshot, standing up to the barbarian behemoth Goliath covered in armour and wielding a giant sword. The irony is that David is a young Jew and Goliath an older Philistine, and today we have the positions reversed with David being the poor, battered Philistine standing up to the incredibly powerful Israeli Goliath.
Naturally, the uninformed will want to root for David since all he has to counter Goliath’s weapons are some AK47 rifles, a few machine guns and some harmless rockets. Goliath, on the other hand, has a fearsome array of weapons, including laser-guided 2,000lbs bombs, tanks, drones, F-35 aircraft and that’s just for breakfast. The brave Philistine fighters are putting up a valiant fight against their arch-nemesis and oppressor, who despite his incredibly overwhelming and ferocious weapons has apparently failed to beat him to the ground.
Let’s drop the metaphor, since we are basically past it at this juncture. All the supporters of the Gazans would have you believe is that Israel is wantonly slashing and burning its way through Gaza, killing everything in sight and razing every building it sees to the ground. Ever since the grotesque, libelous letter was published by the Lancet (https://x.com/daniepstein_com/status/1810322594215628816), the civilian death toll has sky-rocketed from the original and already ludicrous figure of 37,000 (debunked here: https://x.com/daniepstein_com/status/1808866740727578891) to a stratospheric 186,000.
Is Israel a hulking, destructive and mass-murdering Goliath? Are Hamas and ordinary Gazans embroiled in active fighting a fresh-faced David? Let’s see.
On the 6th of October 2023, there was still a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. No-one seriously expected a direct attack on Israeli soil; hence people went about celebrating Shabbat and Simchat Torah as usual, and a peace music festival was held in a field less than 2km from the Gaza border. When the attack commenced, the police, army and other forces had a hard time believing it was actually happening.
By the time the full extent of the horror was understood, 1,200 lives had been in lost in a brutal spree of pillaging, raping, murdering, torturing and hostage-taking. Israel and World Jewry was in shock. Not since the mind-numbing inhumanity of the Holocaust had Jews experienced such a horrific episode. The carnage, the delight terrorist took in their appalling, revolting attack was simply incomprehensible.
Needless to say that accompanying the shock and grief was a seething rage. Despite having given Gazan’s autonomy in 2005 at the ignominious expense of over 10,000 Jews, all that the so-called Palestinians (https://x.com/daniepstein_com/status/1811151386425577479) had repaid in gratitude was death, destruction and violence. This was the final straw.
At this juncture, Israel had a casus belli of epic proportions. They could have quite rightly razed Gaza to the ground in their attempts to retrieve their hostages and wipe Hamas off the face of the earth. Moreso, GoPro videos that Hamas themselves published online showed Gazans in civilian clothing participating in the massacre. Whilst this did not make all the Gazan civilians complicit, it certainly broadened the scope of culpability. After all, now they were seeking much more than simply the estimated 45,000 Hamas terrorists; now they were after thousands of Gazans who either participated directly in the slaughter, took civilians hostage or dragged their bodies through the streets.
It's worth considering what the IDF brings to the table in terms of military capability. The air force alone consists of over 300 aircraft gen-4 and gen-5 fighters, equipped with Israeli-developed avionics and sensors unique to the IDF, capable of launching sophisticated missiles and guided gravity munitions. They have hundreds of tanks and artillery pieces, 169,000 active personnel and a reserve army of roughly 465,000. The Israeli Navy has a slew of sophisticated surface and submarine vessels capable of firing shells and launching missiles from great distances. Given the will on the part of the Israelis, Gaza could have been flattened into rubble in a matter of a couple of hours; by the time the world would have commenced protesting, the strip would have been a smoking ruin, its citizens bombed to kingdom come.
Yet this did not happen. Much everyone’s surprise, the Israeli government sat on its haunches for three weeks. Some small operations were carried out almost immediately, but the full ground invasion took three weeks to mobilise. During that process, the IDF formulated a plan that would require the mass movement of citizens in the strip, and in order to execute this plan they undertook heretofore unheard-of steps to prevent as many civilians dying as possible, employing leaflet drops, robocalls, text messages and direct calls by specially trained IDF members. Israel has formidable electronic capabilities that according to John Spencer, Chair of Urban War Studies at the MWI, West Point, no other army has. They employed all of these in their efforts to prevent a slaughter.
As the war drew on, the IDF realised that Hamas were using the IDF’s strengths and morality against them, ensuring higher casualties than were predicted. For example, Hamas prevented their own citizens from following evacuation orders in order to use them as human shields (https://reuters.com/world/middle-east/hamas-tells-gaza-residents-stay-home-israel-ground-offensive-looms-2023-10-13/); when people were evacuating Hamas shot at them. When the IDF attempted to shield the evacuees, Hamas attacked the soldiers protecting the civilians. Hamas even faked IDF leaflets telling citizens that evacuation corridors were only for emergencies. When it comes to distributing aid, Hamas are not below hijacking the lorries and preventing their own people from accessing food, hygiene supplies and other basic requisites. People who protested that Hamas had gone too far should surrender were beaten or shot. There is nothing new about this; when Hamas took over the Gaza strip in 2007 they engaged in fratricide at an appalling level (https://theguardian.com/world/2007/jun/15/israel4), and they have consistently used their own citizens as human shields (https://stratcomcoe.org/cuploads/pfiles/hamas_human_shields.pdf).
In order to counter these tactical abuses of civilians, the IDF developed new strategies, employing sophisticated electronics to scan known Hamas phones, using long range ID systems and filtering civilians for terrorists using human intelligence.
Hamas in the meanwhile were abusing every possible law they could; aside from holding civilian hostages captive (including babies) as bargaining chips, they fought the IDF in civilian clothing from inside civilian structures. The Gaza Metro – a network of over 600km of tunnels – allowed them to pop out almost anywhere, from under houses, mosques, hospitals and schools, run into a building and break out the weapons cached there. They would manoeuvre into position, take some shots and then drop their weapons to join the civilians in the area. Almost every building the IDF has entered has contained weapons; even protected status buildings such as hospital, schools and mosques are riddled with armaments and explosives (https://cbsnews.com/news/israel-photos-hamas-gaza-weapons-un-facilities-including-schools/ https://youtube.com/watch?v=7gLABy9s8Zc https://thecipherbrief.com/a-look-inside-hamass-weapons-arsenal). Hamas are not beyond using captures Israeli uniforms to disguise themselves as IDF soldiers, allowing them to manoeuvre in the open. They cynically baited the IDF into believing a WCK convoy was a Hamas one by firing off guns from on top of the vehicles (https://breitbart.com/middle-east/2024/04/06/report-hamas-may-have-baited-idf-into-striking-wck-convoy-in-error/). If there is a humanitarian or warfare law or custom that Hamas has not broken, it is because it is so obscure that practically no-one has heard of it.
All of this has slowed down the progress of the IDF. Instead of taking days, the war to date has been dragged out for almost nine months at the time of writing. Whilst the death toll of Gazans has been enormously exaggerated (https://x.com/daniepstein_com/status/1808866740727578891), the destruction has been widespread. At least 16% of Gaza lies in ruins. Whatever economy they had prior to the 7th has essentially evaporated. It will be a decade at least before they have a chance to enjoy self-rule, and since Israel will certainly not rebuild Gaza and perhaps claim reparations as well, the reconstruction will progress at snail’s pace.
This does beg the question: what did Hamas have in mind when they attacked Israel on the 7thin such a brutal, barbarian and animalistic fashion? Did they not expect a response of these proportions?
To answer this, some background of the situation must be fleshed out. On the 6th, Israel was a terribly divided country, across political and religious lines. Proposed changes to the judiciary led to mass protests, and Yom Kippur prayers in the centre of Tel Aviv were disturbed by a small rabble. The country was deeply mired in conflict, and even a group of soldiers refusing to serve in protest, which came as a shock to a country whose army is almost sacrosanct.
Hamas and probably the IRGC as well saw this as a serious opportunity to hit Israel hard, expecting an overwhelming attack to weaken Israel’s morale sufficiently to perhaps mount several more such incursions. In the past, Israel’s response to Hamas terror ranged from weak to lukewarm. Operation Cast Lead (2008–2009) ended after three weeks with a mutual ceasefire; the conflict resulted in roughly 1,400 Palestinian and 13 Israeli deaths. Some 46,000 homes were destroyed, making more than 100,000 people homeless. Operation Protective Edge 2014 lasted for seven weeks with 2,000 Gazan deaths and a total of six Israeli civilians who were killed as a result of the conflict. Neither operations resulted in a decisive victory.
What is clear is that Hamas never expected such wide-spread devastation. Instead, they probably forecast another short war with Israel in disarray. Hamas would mount several incursions, capture as many hostages as they could during the operations and then withdraw to negotiate for thousands of prisoners in Israeli jails to be freed. They would be able to flee to their tunnels at any time, making the process of hunting them down almost impossible.
This plan backfired horribly for Hamas. From the very first moment, they broke every rule of armed conflict. The bestiality and brutality of the attack achieved the exact opposite of what they expected. Not only did it shake Israel out of its torpor, but it also united the country and world Jewry in a way they had never been united previously.
Within a matter of days, reservists responded with a 140% turnout; commanders were frustrated at the lack of readily available equipment for their soldiers since no-one predicted such a response. As of 9th April 2024, donations from the Diaspora raised $1.4 billion (https://timesofisrael.com/donations-to-israel-since-october-7-topped-1-4-billion-government-reports/) and Israel Bonds sales raised a further $1.7 billion.
Israel now swore to do what they had never done before: utterly destroy Hamas. However, they made it clear that this was not going to be revenge, it was going to be justice.
Where Hamas broke every possible rule and acted like rabid barbarians, Israel took every possible step to reduce collateral damage and the expected carnage. Where Hamas simply raped, butchered and pillaged, Israel kept the IDF on a tight leash. Soldiers had very strict rules of engagement and monumental efforts were undertaken to keep civilian life functioning as well as possible under war conditions. As John Spencer writes (https://x.com/SpencerGuard/status/1812183672734589372): “Israel has gone above and beyond what is traditionally required of armies. In Gaza, they faced 40,000 enemy defenders in dense urban terrain featuring some 400 miles of deep buried military tunnels a depth of 15 to over 200 feet deep purposely built under civilian and protected sites. The defenders were equipped with over 15,000 rockets and a full array of small arms, mortars, and improvised explosive devices. The enemy had defenses that took at least fifteen years to prepare and fortify. Hamas held over 200 hostages, disguised themselves as civilians, and used ordinary Gazans as human shields to manipulate external actors, especially the United States, to stop Israel from escalating and instead to push for a ceasefire. Largely because of Egypt, there was almost no possibility for the 2.2. million civilians in Gaza to completely flee the war zone by land.”
Ultimately, Israel at war is the consummate gentleman; moral, considerate and firm in its mission to protect its people. Hamas, conversely, are the very embodiment of evil, with a callous disregard for its own people and cynically abusing the laws and customs of war for their own nefarious gains. Hamas is no fresh-faced David with his little slingshot. Hamas is a wildly immoral and bestial death cult with absolutely no regard for the very people that elected them.
Despite all this, the world does not see Hamas in its true light. Gazans are painted as innocent victims who are suffering under the brutality of the Israeli war machine. The appalling crimes against humanity that Hamas committed are either brushed under the carpet or denied outright, despite the copious evidence supplied by Hamas themselves. The incredible efforts of the IDF to prevent civilian casualties, and the unspeakable attacks Israel suffered are not simply ignored but distorted all out of recognition.
Why is this? How is it that the picture has been so successfully reversed?
Behind all of the various theories that might explain this is the IRGC and other bad actors, as discussed in this post: https://x.com/daniepstein_com/status/1807676708734042189.
What allows these machinations to succeed is partially due to the nature of people wanting to cheer on the underdog. This is the cognitive dissonance of beer glasses – the mind only shows you what you want to see, not what you actually observe. It is also the fact that Jew-hatred has festered at every level since the very founding of Jewry, and this war has allowed Jew-haters across the globe to sanitise their anti-Semitism through the filter of anti-Zionism, which they then vomit onto their sheeple audiences through the medium of social media. The confluence of these impulses results in a narrative that paints the victim as the oppressor, and elevates raping, murdering, butchering and hostage-taking barbarian troglodytes to near-sainthood.
This is not a David and Goliath conflict. This is a conflict of barbarianism versus civilisation.
And it’s coming to the West.

A Bearable Weight
Pairing: Javi Gutierrez x F!Reader
Summary: New Years Eve is the holiday of new beginnings, and you take a leap to see if Javi might be one of them.
Word Count: 3k
Story Warnings: T, plenty of sweetness, more ridiculousness because I can't help myself, some lightly spicy kisses. While this story is not explicit, my blog and the content shared on it is 18+ so MINORS DNI.
Notes: I had to get these two to New Years. They were just too cute to leave hanging. I hope each and every one of you reading this waves goodbye to anything that made your 2022 difficult and enters 2023 with open arms and excitement. Now let's see where the new year takes Javi and Conejita!
Cross-posted on AO3
The restaurant is smaller than you thought it might be, unassuming in a strip of businesses. The sign for it is understated, white lettering on a black rectangle with a thin gold border - Aperitif. You’ve been studying the sign, and the door below it, for well over ten minutes, the chill night air creeping up your bare legs. The new dress you bought for the occasion - black, tasteful but a little sexy, an amount you’re comfortable with - weaves around your knees when a breeze makes you shiver. You look down at your heels again, still torn between whether the glittery gold is too loud for your personality or loving that they make you feel festive. Your hair is styled, your makeup is perfect, everything is ready for you to go inside.
And you’re still rooted on the damn spot.
Javi texted you a few times since the first voice message. Every new phone alert made your heart jump, evolving to a flutter when it actually was from him. He sent you photos of his friends’ Christmas tree, their dog plopping her head in his lap, the snow outside a fogged up window. He also asked you things about yourself, some that you expected and others that made you stop and smile.
What food will you eat if you’re having a bad day?
Best movies adapted from books?
Did your sister like the message?
Your sister did indeed, and after catching you grinning at your phone several times throughout the long weekend finally made you confess how you got it. Her elation over the serendipitous meeting was only eclipsed by your hesitation over seeing Javi again.
“Are you serious right now? Cute, funny, probably loaded, a dork, sweet, and definitely into you? I will drive you there and drop your ass on the sidewalk if you don’t do it yourself.”
So you accepted the invitation, which was accompanied by a string of excited texts filled with details and one that made you tingle from head to toe.
Thank you for accepting. I hope you will consider what I asked you in my first message. But only if you’re comfortable. I really like talking to you, no matter what.
A beat, then…
If you’d like to be mine, this year.
You did. Holy hell, you did. But you were also a classically trained overthinker, and the days leading up to New Years Eve were spent Googling and riding the rollercoaster of excitement and dread. The Gutierrez family had an online presence, and not all of it was good. Luckily it seemed like Javi wasn’t in the crosshairs, but the more you learned the more convinced you became that this was going to be a shitshow. Wealthy, influential, a lover of the arts and gorgeous in every photo you find, your hopes got buried a little deeper with each word.
He told you it was going to be a party, nothing large, but the idea of being in your department store dress among the elite of society made you want to cancel. Go out for coffee instead. Let yourself down gently when you realize how different your worlds are.
But then you find a voicemail - a missed call from Javi:
“Hi conejita, I hope all the texts have not been too much. I realize that you barely know me, and I am maybe moving a little too fast. I get…ah, well, I get excited. You have made me very excited, and I want to be, you know, ‘cool’ about it, but I am not so great at that. Anyways, I am…hah, yeah, excited to see you tomorrow. It will be a lot of fun. And, um…we don’t…I only want what you want, conejita. So let’s just…see where the night takes us. I know what I feel, but I…I only want you to…to know…agh! I am messing this all up. Sorry, this message is so long now. I’ll see you tomorrow. I’m…I’m really happy to see you tomorrow. Okay, bye.”
What’s the harm, you thought after listening to the message three times. If it’s terrible you never have to see him again.
Another breeze ripples over your skin, finally making you move towards the door.
And if it’s amazing?
You smile to yourself and enter the warmth of the restaurant.
Aperitif looked small from the exterior, and the interior is about what you expected. It could maybe seat 30 fully booked, but the dining room has been cleared out in favor of buffet servers against the walls, the ivory bar lined with champagne glasses and eager bartenders shaking cocktails. The handful of people chatting inside don’t look like heiresses or oil barons. Your shoulders relax a fraction.
“Name?” the man at the door asks, a short list in his hand. You give yours and are ushered in, a drink immediately put in your hand and a string of metallic gold beads tossed over your head by a waitress.
“Happy New Year!” she says, taking your coat. You slip into the crowd looking for the only person you came here for - Javi. But his caramel curls and exuberant laugh haven’t reached you yet.
“I love what they’ve done with the decorations!” a cheery voice exclaims over your shoulder. You look around, then up to see a delicate web of black and gold streamers holding balloons precariously above you. One single streamer hangs to the floor behind the bar, which an olive-skinned hand points to. “I think at midnight they pull that.” You turn to see the woman speaking to you, and she’s...normal-looking. Peppy brunette with a sharply cut bob, sparkling brown eyes, and a glittery top with black slacks. Maybe you had nothing to worry about.
“That’s fun, I haven’t been out on New Years in ages,” you say, taking a sip of champagne. The bubbles tickle your tongue pleasantly. It’s good, much better than any champagne you’ve had at parties.
“Oh then you’ve come to the perfect place! Who invited you?” she asks, finishing off her glass and placing it on a waiter’s tray as it floats by.
“Javi,” you say, a little shyly. He mentioned that he was hosting it, but you had no clue who the other guests were. How long could you keep up the facade?
“Of course! How do you know him? I’m a long-lost cousin myself, been out of the loop for a while, but it’s nice to see him again.” She waits expectantly, and if you didn’t feel like throwing up before you definitely do now.
“Uhhh, we met…on a flight…” you start to say, working through how the hell you were going to explain the circumstances of your meeting to a stranger, when her eyes light up.
“Oh my GOD, it’s you!” she gasps, grabbing on to both your shoulders. “Javi told me about the girl on the plane on his way here. That story, the way he tells it, it’s the cutest thing I’ve ever heard. And you’re here! Now! I have to find him, he’ll be so excited!” She squeezes your shoulders again with a little squeal before darting through the crowd, a nervous giggle smothered in your hand.
He told people about you.
He told people about you in a way that made him sound happy.
You could burst, the light inside you is so expansive.
You’re about to follow when a large palm circles your bicep, turning you gently around in the crowd.
“You came.”
Javi says it like a prayer, like he believed but never thought a miracle would grace him. His curls are swept back from his face in tantalizing waves. He’s in a gray blazer, a navy button-up with some abstract patterning hanging onto his broad chest for dear life. The top three buttons already gave up the fight, chest dewy with the humidity in the room. But it’s his face that melts your anxieties away. His eyes drape warmth over you, fondness in their depths that he only hinted at in his messages. His soft smile lashes your heart into a gallop, breaking into one of your own.
“Of course. How could I miss it?” you say, winking when his grin widens. He leans forward to place a chaste kiss on your cheek, hand spreading across your lower back.
“I am so happy to see you, conejita,” he whispers, raising goosebumps along the nape of your neck.
Oh, you’re in it deep now.
As the night continues more people file in, filling the small space with chattering conversation. You find the bubbly brunette again, who introduces herself as Julia, and get to talking about houseplant care and aggravations. She’s unpretentious, passionate, and makes you feel like you belong. Honestly, most of the people do. As the night wears on and you shake more hands and spark more conversations, it dawns on you why these people are all together tonight. This is Javi’s circle, people who understand him and bring him joy.
Bashful happiness that you might bring him joy settles in your chest.
Javi scoops you up every few minutes, guiding you to new groups or asking you if you’ve tried something. The upscale pigs in a blanket are your personal favorite, snagging a whole tray for yourself when a waiter walks by. You’re almost embarrassed, but Javi’s crinkled smile as he tries to steal one and gets his hand slapped is worth it.
A murmuring begins by the entrance, a flocking to the door. Javi comes to your elbow, leaning on one foot and placing his warm hand on your lower back. He’s been doing it to you all night, every time you stand beside him, but it’s never less thrilling.
“What’s that all about?” you ask, your third glass of champagne fizzing delightfully under your skin. He catches someone’s eye in the crowd, gesturing them over.
“Just a good friend who came to visit.”
You almost choke on your sip of bubbles.
“Nicolas. Fucking. Cage,” you scoff to Javi under your breath as the man himself emerges out of the crowd. He’s bee-lining your way but stops to shake hands and engage in polite conversation. His emerald velvet jacket contrasts the burgundy button-up underneath nicely, but the faded Dad jeans and white tennis shoes clash adorably with the ensemble. “You could have warned me!”
“Your reaction was well worth your annoyance,” Javi placates, pressing you forward as the crowd falls back.
“How are you doing Nic? How’s the family?” Javi asks, pulling the famous actor in for a hug. They give brief updates, you standing back a step awkwardly. Debating on slipping away, Javi introduces you to Nic and pulls you back into the conversation.
“The girl on the plane,” Nic says, and if you ever thought his speaking affect was fake you’re certain now it’s genuine. He takes your hand in both of his, shaking it earnestly. “I heard your sister is a big fan. I hope she liked the message, I know it was a little rushed but, last minute on the holidays, you know…” You shake your head, fighting back your sister’s scream in the back of your mind.
“She was over the moon. Thank you again for doing that, it was very kind of you,” you say, trading a secret smirk with Javi. It’s a harmless lie, but the fact that he’s perpetuating it makes you even giddier.
“Well next time you’re at one of Javi’s parties you should bring her. I love meeting fans,” Nic says, giving you a pat on the shoulder and peeling off to get himself a drink. Javi slides back to your side, the laughter you’d been suppressing squeaking out of the corners of your mouth.
“Clara’s gonna die. I’ll have to lie to her to get her in the same room as Nic,” you sputter, leaning into Javi’s side as he puts an arm around your shoulders. Frenetic energy dissipating, you savor the solid breadth of his chest, that delicious citrus bite of his scent. He holds you there, and after a moment his cheek presses against the side of your head. He inhales, your face burning when you realize he’s smelling you.
“That’s it, you’re a wizard or something. No one can grant as many wishes as you,” you tease, twisting to look into Javi’s face. The crows feet and wrinkles smooth as he looks at you, eyes darting from your own to your lips and back again. “Thank you,” you finally say, letting him slide his arm down to pull you into his chest.
“It is I who should be thanking you, conejita. I’ve been living a full life, a better life in recent times, but it feels that much brighter when you’re close to me.” His touch is hesitant when his fingers graze your jaw, his hold loosening on your back. It’s all broadcasting only what you want. He would chase you if you let him, though if you stepped away now he’d let you. But in those touches are the longing to be more than acquaintances. And in this room you thought you’d never belong in, you feel safe, and seen.
Over the chatter and laughter swirling past, you talk. About Javi’s life, and your own. Your work and what you love to do. His love of movies, your love of old houses and national parks. Your mutual dislike of overused CGI elements and predictable jumpscares. He strokes your back, your arm, as you speak, sometimes needing to break away to say hello or answer a question, but unfailingly coming back to you.
As the final minutes near, you voice the question burning in the back of your mind.
“Javi, you’re so…” you gesture at this posh, gorgeous man standing beside you. “You’re so far out of my league I can’t even see you. And I know I’m a catch,” you interject, gesturing at yourself now with amusement. “I’m a snack, I’m a whole meal, I don’t deny it. But I’m more like…Applebees than Wolfgang Puck.” You wave your hands, banishing the jumble away. “I guess I just don’t understand why…me. Here. Tonight.”
Javi’s brow furrows, his mouth tightening into a pout as he casts his gaze down. Waiting is torture, needing to know if this is just a little thank-you or something more.
“One minute!” someone shouts, the excitement in the room ratcheting up another series of degrees as everyone gathers in the center of the restaurant. Javi leads you to the middle, the throng of people parting enough to give you some space inside it. Once your feet stop, he sweeps you into another embrace, this one firmer. His eyes roam your face, searching for something before he speaks.
“As much as I love the old movies, I do not believe in love at first sight. I believe in attraction, and common interests, and support. I believe in two people finding each other in the most unusual way and taking it as a sign. And when the universe gives you another chance and it only makes you want that person more, well…” Javi trails off, one hand coming up to curl around your head, his thumb stroking the hinge of your parted jaw. Your eyes must be hopeful because he barrels on.
“Well, I am not one to overlook lightning striking twice. And you are…you are not an…apple bee?” he asks, confusion twisting the words. You shake your head and pat his chest.
“It’s a, like, chain restaurant. Sorry, doesn’t make a lot of sense if you haven’t heard of it,” you murmur, stroking a finger along his lapel.
“But that’s just it, because I don’t agree with that. You are so much more than I wished. I feel like…not like a puzzle, but like…two rivers meeting. Both strong on their own, but together, mingled, are in harmony.”
“Okay everyone, get ready, on ten!”
“Javi, what are you…”
“Nine!”
“I want more of this, conejita. I want more of you. If you’ll have me too.”
“Eight!”
“I…do, but I just…it…it feels so…complicated.”
“Seven!”
“We do not need all of the answers now. Just one.”
“Six!”
“Which one is that?”
“Five!”
“Will you let me kiss you tomorrow?”
“Four!”
“Three!”
“Two!”
“One!”
“Yes, Javi.”
The restaurant erupts in cheers of “Happy New Year!” as people hug and kiss and celebrate. One of the waiters pulls the crepe paper cord and balloons tumble from the ceiling, packets of foil confetti dumping and exploding over the crowd. If you were paying attention you’d laugh, reach your hands up to the ceiling and try to catch handfuls of the glittering shower, but you’re preoccupied with Javi’s gentle smile before he pulls your lips to his.
If this kiss was a precursor to how your next year would go, magical might be a good descriptor. Or explosive. Swoon-worthy maybe. But perfect might be the best. Javi’s first chaste press is followed by deeper kisses, his full lips covering your own with quiet little pants. When he pulls back enough to see your kiss-drunk face his whole demeanor lights up, lacing his fingers with yours and pulling you through the crowd.
Once tucked away on a bench in the back of the restaurant, he proceeds to kiss you with more fervor, tongue slipping against yours tentatively. He only interrupts the worshipful makeout with touches to your face like he still can’t believe you’re here. Covering his hands with your own, you tilt your head to one side.
“I feel like this is going to be a very good year.”
Javi’s sweet smile turns just a fraction devilish, and your heart flutters with it.
“Better than I could have wished for."

7 Best Cricut Ideas for Thanksgiving to Try in 2023
Thanksgiving feels like a happy ending to the year, and we all celebrate it with gratitude and love. It’s time to cook delicious food, talk about precious times with family and friends, and spend quality time with them. So, I know it will be a very busy time for all the Cricut crafters as they are all preparing for the upcoming festivals. So, if you are a crafting enthusiast, you may be running out of ideas for things to try this Thanksgiving. In order to help you out, I’ll tell you the best Cricut ideas for Thanksgiving.
If you want to create something for this Thanksgiving, read this full blog, and by the end, you will have tons of ideas to get you started. So, you can expand your knowledge about the Cricut crafts here with me. Let’s move ahead.
1. Paper Cards
One of the greatest ideas is to make a special Thanksgiving card for the occasion. A card will not only give an emotional touch to your craft but also make your Thanksgiving memorable. You can use these cards to invite your friends and family to your place, or you can just sell these cards if you are a business owner.
So, my first choice for an occasion like this will be a beautifully decorated card. You can use thousands of things on this craft from the Design Space app. Don’t miss this opportunity to create amazing-looking cards. Also, it is one of the best Cricut ideas for Thanksgiving to sell.
2. Bunting
Yes, you heard right. You can create many colorful bunting designs with paper. You can use letters, images, and many different things to decorate your home. It looks very good at home parties, giving out a vibe for celebration. The idea of bunting works for all the theme parties like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Birthday, and Christmas as well. So, you can use the products from Cricut’s Treasure and create some fun things.
3. Frames
A frame designed for Thanksgiving is a very brilliant idea to decorate your drawing room. You can hang it on the wall or just keep it on the table. This is also a very cool idea for selling your stuff. So, if you are someone who likes permanent things for decorations, a frame would be a nice idea. To create a frame, you will need to purchase a frame from an online or offline store. You can also use some popular platforms like Dollar Tree.
4. Trays
You can purchase a tray from Dollar Tree and decorate it with a favorite message on it. I wrote the “Be Thankful” message on it. You can use a transferable vinyl to write your text with the help of a transferable tape. I would recommend you buy a water-resistant vinyl to prevent it from getting moisture. This simple stuff will look amazing at your home. So, go for this type of pretty craft with your Cricut for this Thanksgiving.
5. Signboard
6. Customized Mugs
There are many ways to design a coffee mug. You can purchase the Cricut mugs or any mugs you like. Then, decorate with the vinyl. Cut out a cute text on the vinyl and then apply it on the coffee mug with the help of a transfer tape. For example, I cut down a cute text as “Blessed Teacher” and then applied it to my mug. To add more cuteness, I added cute apple stickers with the text. You can gift these mugs to someone you admire. It can be one of the easiest Cricut ideas for Thanksgiving.
7. T-Shirts
Cricut is best used for the T-shirt stuff, as you already know. So, there is no occasion when you can’t prepare the T-shirts. There are multiple ways to design a T-shirt using your Cricut machine. So, why don’t you create a T-shirt for Thanksgiving? There are lovely texts you can use on the T-shirt with the help of Heat transfer vinyl and a heat press or a regular iron. The Design Space has a full treasure of images, fonts, and texts to use for the T-shirts.
Conclusion
You have seen great Cricut ideas for Thanksgiving. Most of the ideas are beginner-friendly, and those who intend to sell their crafts can also try them out. A Cricut machine can do lots of things for personalized as well as for selling purposes. Therefore, if you are someone who likes crafting, you can surprise your family and friends with all this beautiful stuff. The good thing is that you can use any Cricut machine to start the Thanksgiving crafts.

"Adoleggenti.
#notizie #news #breakingnews #cronaca #politica #eventi #sport #moda Read the full article

Train strikes set to cause travel disruption
Getty Images
By Faarea Masud
Business reporter
Rail passengers are facing disruption on Saturday as train drivers stage a further strike over pay and conditions.
The fresh wave of industrial action by members of the Aslef union means fewer than half of trains will be operating.
Some journeys will be subject to short-notice cancellation and passengers are advised to check before they travel.
Businesses have called for an urgent resolution to the dispute within the rail industry which has been going on for more than a year.
Aslef members will also strike on Wednesday, 4 October and are implementing a five-day overtime ban between next Monday and Friday.
Pubs and restaurants are among 37 companies who have co-signed a letter with UKHospitality, the industry association, to Transport Secretary Mark Harper, train operators and unions stating that the latest strikes will cost the sector up to £400m.
The likes of Rick Stein, Greene King, Revolution Bars and Fuller’s have also asked all those involved in the dispute to make a public commitment not to strike over Christmas.
They wrote: “The festive season is a crucial period for our workforce: missed shifts and subsequent lost earnings – including lost income from tips – would be most acutely felt around Christmas”.
But on Thursday, Aslef’s secretary general Mick Whelan said he would not rule out further strike action in the Christmas period, adding the union was willing to talk to rail companies, but “no-one’s interested, they don’t want a resolution”.
Transport Secretary Mark Harper said “there is a fair and reasonable offer on the table” which he urged Mr Whelan to put to his members.
“What Aslef want, with their political strike today timed for the Conservative party conference, is a large pay rise with no strings attached, no reform to make the rail system better for passengers,” Mr Harper told BBC Breakfast.
Train companies said that service levels on Saturday will vary across England, and some journeys in Scotland and Wales will also be affected.
Workers across 14 different train companies are expected to take part in strikes on Saturday. They are:
Avanti West Coast
c2c
Chiltern Railways
Cross Country Trains
East Midlands Railway
Great Western Railway
Greater Anglia
LNER
Northern Trains
South Eastern
South Western Railway
Transpennine Express
West Midlands Trains
GTR (including Southern, Gatwick Express, Thameslink and Great Northern)
Which services are affected by the latest train strikes?
The strikes coincide with the Conservative Party’s annual conference in Manchester which begins on Sunday.
The rail industry is likely to be a subject of discussion as speculation mounts that the Birmingham to Manchester leg of HS2 rail link may be scrapped.
Network Rail has advised of “significant disruption”, with services also likely to start later on the day immediately following a full strike day.
It said that customers with advance, anytime or off-peak tickets for travel on Saturday can use their tickets up to and including Tuesday, 3 October.
Network Rail also said there is a fee-free refund or exchange available for those who choose not to travel on strike days. It added that there is cross-industry ticket acceptance between different train companies and temporary removal of “certain ticket restrictions”.
With more than a dozen train companies affected, the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) – which represents train companies – said its offer for improved worker pay remained on the table. It said its offer was reasonable, claiming that it would bring average driver salaries from £60,000 to £65,000.
Aslef rejected proposals in April, which involved pay rises of 4% two years in a row, in exchange for changes to ways of working. The union has argued that drivers are being asked to sacrifice their working conditions in exchange for a below-inflation pay rise.
Aslef and the RMT union, which represents other rail workers, have held a series of strikes since last summer which have brought much of the network to a standstill.
Separately, there will be strikes on London Underground by RMT union members on Wednesday, 4 October and Friday, 6 October.

🤣 sorry I can't stop laughing at that new Academia-Military-Disneyland Tour. How much do we need to pay for that fieldwork propagandist imperialist symposium? For those who have never been to Korea, and at the DMZ, you should go, but not with those experts, as you will hear the same stuff as South Korean tour operators.
HT Mudge
You'd better go with this grassroot movement instead, which is also supported by the Americans (Koreans), but that won't sell you so-called experts knowledge, which are information that you can read online.
Or if you really want South Korean national insights, Dramas (TV series) are great. Why? Because, they depict the political powers at play in the peninsula, the role of the Chaebols (the conglomerates) in policies making. An issue that is never mentioned by the American so-called experts, who only focus on the nuclear demonization of North Korea. The Axis of Evil, the Bush administration foreign policy/national security rhetoric haunts those experts' subconscious. Honestly, were you reassured when Trump had access to the Nuke code? Do you remember when I proposed to give him a false code?

In South Korea, Dramas screenwriters and producers have more liberty than the press. As an Anthropologist, I think it's because of the popular theatrical tradition to mock the rulers (the aristocracy, the governors, the buddhist monks, etc). Once a year in every village when TV didn't exist. This liberty is now implicit, and useful.
If you know how to analyze audiovisual storytelling, you get access to precious knowledge when watching Dramas, while being entertained. You can understand the social dynamics, the international trade agreements through product placement, the politics, the economic system: a framework invisible in foreign news outlets and foreign scholars papers, because the so-called experts are either scared to lose their seats in their ivory towers, or incapable of thinking outside the box to connect the dots, or just lazy.

Goodbye 2022
December Muse
I think I’m living in a sci-fi movie.
Can you believe it’s December already. 2023 in just 31 days,
I just want to extend my appreciation to all of you that are loyal subscribers, thanks for your support in 2022 and here’s to you having an amazing 2023
So often I hear the inspirers I follow say “make 2023 your best year ever” I have to be honest that line just doesn’t resonate with me. What about the years to follow from there? Sure it takes a balance of working hard and working smart to get better results but the whole ‘hustle and grind all the time’ culture is just not sustainable. Life is cyclical (that’s why I use the word LOOPS) we will always have downtime followed by uptime, followed by downtime followed by uptime. The primary ingredient to making food taste the best is ….
If you are bloody starving.
An important part of success is being aware of the flow between these two and knowing when to push hard in inspired times and ease off in expired times.
So my wish for you is that your 2023 is the beginning of great things to come and that includes greater awareness, greater flow, greater peace and contentment as well as greater wealth, health and prosperity as well as a restful festive season.
I look forward to sharing more inspiration with you in 2023
The emotional intention of Success Loops is for collective Fulfillment, Freedom and Prosperity.
My commitment to my clients is to Uplift, Empower, Enlighten, Inspire.
My intention is to share Deeper Truths for optimized living.
If this is not for you the unsubscribe link is below.
Much love and light and here’s to our collective success.

“To love well is the task in all meaningful relationships, not just romantic bonds.” bell hooks . . As we enter the festive season, I’m reflecting a lot on how to love, for purely selfish reasons … for the sake of my own sanity 😂 and emotional hygiene. . . As part of this, I include a daily reverence practice, a habit I’m intentionally creating to set the vibe and tone for my fourties. . . What does it look like? Well, I’ve been writing and doodling in my journal about all the things that re/ignite and re/generate a sense of love, joy and magic in my life. I email excerpts from my journal to folks who have consented to receive my thoughtfully curated paid offering, “Love Letters To Life.” My “Love Letters To Life” mailing list is currently full. I keep the list small so I can engage in meaningful email pal correspondence with individual Love Letters To Life readers. You know … practicing reverence in communication. Bringing back a bit of old school to our online connection. That said, if consent to receive “Love Letters To Life” today, you’ll be the first to know when a spot opens up for new devoted Love Letters To Life readers. (Generally - because admin is like 70% of micro business life and I need to write more than admin - doors will only open again for new devoted Love Letter readers in March of every year. Real talk 🤣🙏🏾). Until doors open in March 2023, I’ll email a monthly and free Love Note (not a letter … just a cute little note) to everyone chilling on the waitlist for my paid offering. . . If you’d like to opt-in for these two offerings, “Love Notes To Life” and “Love Letters To Life”, please consent to receive “Love Letters To Life” from the link in my bio @sistazai or linktr.ee/sistazai Then simply check your email on every full moon for a $Free.99 Love Note To Life, includes a mixtape/playlist because music 🥰 . . The Cloud House is the vision of architect Peter Morris and TV producer Emily Kennedy. This extraordinary fantastical architecture has been approved for small back street in Gospel Oak.
Peter and Emily have applied for permission to demolish their Victorian home in Vicar’s Road and replace it with two houses.
It is an interesting street, very eclectic, and not in a conservation area.
The couple had initially considered remodelling their homewhich dates from around 1880.
It does not function well, suffering from being damp, draughty and extremely difficult to heat.
The Cloud House will incorporate the current building by recycling its bricks to create a herringbone patterned floor.
