Krakow Photo Fringe in Tarnów

Polish churches in Czech photographs, the Tarnów themes of Wilhelm Sasnal, and the French avant-garde magazine "Zoom" – these are the suggestions from the Tarnów Photography Weekend, which takes place as part of the Kraków Photo Fringe.

The duo of Lukas Jasanský and Martin Polák not so much expand the great tradition of Czech photography represented by Frantisek Drtikol, Josef Sudek and Josef Koudelka as diverge from it.

They are incorrigible documentary ironists.  They break with any kind of pious attitude towards the medium. Poland’s premiere of the series "Churches, Churches", ongoing since 2012, and in accordance with the title, depicts contemporary houses of worship which are inscribed in the native landscape and formally surprising. In what way? You’ll be able to ask the artists themselves who’ll be visiting Tarnów for this weekend.

The next suggestion is a special presentation of photographs by Wilhelm Sasnal – an artist born in Tarnów – made available from a private collection. “Concorde is dead” is in the way of an experiment with film.

What the world of photography fed on between 1973 and 1984 you can find out by analyzing the source. The review of past issues of the prestigious French magazine photo "Zoom", from the collection of Barbara and Jacek Czekański is something for anyone who’d like to take a journey back in time.

The Tarnów Weekend programme also has something for the youngsters. Children between the ages of 10 and 12 can take part in the photography workshops "Light. Photography. Movement "- say the organizers.

The Tarnów Photography Weekend is on 22 and 23 May. The Krakow Photo Fringe takes place in parallel with Krakow Photomonth (14 May – 14 June). It is organized by the Lablab Foundation and the Foundation for the Visual Arts.
