The sister is cute. Almost as tall as Cirrus and so very full of pride for being “welcome” among the ghoulettes. She looks young, like she probably is in her early twenties. Not that it really matters all that much, compared to Ghouls her life is nothing. And she is so blissfully unaware of her fate.

“Lisp”

It had been just another regular day with the Sides, chaos and all. The others were bickering again and Deceit was just about fed up with their back and forth chattering. However, he was used to it and just sat in the living room quietly.

That was until Roman decided to ask him a question, “Deceit, have you seen my sword?” The prince sighed irritably, approaching him, he sounded just about done with arguing himself. His question was phrased in such a way that it seemed to imply he was ready to use it on the others to get them to shut up. 

Deceit wasn’t sure he should allow such a thing but he answered him anyway, rubbing his temple, “I told you it’s in the same place you always leave it.”

“But it isn’t! I can’t find it anywhere!”

Deceit shrugged, “You should be more mindful of your own belongings, Roman. And I’m not about to help you find it just so you can use it on someone because of some petty squabble.”

Roman groaned and started to whine about his missing weapon. Deceit was not fond of the prince’s whining. Or any whining for that matter. Usually, he’d just ignore him and allow him to go throw a tantrum in his room. But with the others still bickering in the background quite loudly, combined with Roman’s ceaseless pestering, Deceit couldn’t take it.

“Sssssshut it, Roman!”, Deceit spat, closing the book he was reading before being interrupted, “Can you not see I’m trying to-”

The eldest Side didn’t finish as he quickly realized his mistake, pausing and slapping a hand over his mouth. Deceit immediately felt heat rise to his cheeks and the feeling of shame for allowing himself to make such an error. All eyes were on him after that outburst and he couldn’t stand it, knowing what was coming. 

Deceit quickly tried to play it off by coughing into his fist, “Can you not see I’m trying to-”

This time it was Patton who cut him off and Deceit felt the dread rise in his chest, all too familiar with what followed after such a slip-up. The moral side giggled, “Uh-oh! Looks like you woke the snake, Roman!”

There it was.

“Patton.”, The prince warned, glaring.

Patton paid him no mind and continued, “We haven’t heard that in a while, kiddo! Got tired of speaking normally all the time?~”

“Patton.”, Virgil was the next one to speak up, hissing out the moral side’s name. He knew how much Deceit hated when he let sounds like that roll off his tongue and even more so when others witnessed it.

“What?”, Patton cooed innocently, put his hands on his hips with a bright smile, “There’s nothing wrong with being different. I’m actually kinda jealous I don’t get a cute little lisp along with facial snake scales-”

“That is quite enough, Patton.”, Logan adjusted his glasses, giving the third eldest side a stern look. , “You are fully aware of just how self-conscious Deceit is of this aspect of his speech. It does nothing to mock him for something he didn’t choose other than an increase in self-loathing. Let us change the subject and leave him to his own devices.”

“Alright, alright.”, Patton rolled his eyes with a playful grin, “I mean I was just trying to lighten the mood and all. You all just seemed so troubled. Maybe if Deceit had just stayed where he was before this wouldn’t be happening.”, The moral side perked up as if he just had a huge revelation, “But that’s okay! We’ll just have to adjust to this new change! Just like how Deceit has to adjust his language!-”

“Patton!!!”, The rest of the Sides shouted at him for not letting up.

Patton held up his hands, still smiling as if nothing had happened, “Whoa! Got a whole group of gloomy guses on my case here! I was only teasing! Didn’t know you guys hated jokes so much!”

“It is not a joke if the other person isn’t laughing with you.”, Logan stated sternly.

“It’s not my fault he doesn’t have a sense of humor. And it looks like that’s rubbed off on you guys. Should I be concerned he’s taking my place?” Patton sang, resting his hands on his hip with a smile still plastered on his lips, trying to act like he was only asking in good fun.

“Patton.”, Virgil ran a hand through his hair irritably, “Seriously, enough. You know how he feels. Quit acting like a jerk and leave him alone. You aren’t being funny.”

“I have no idea what you mean.”, Patton tilted his head with a curious grin, “You know I love that slippery snake! I’d never say anything to hurt his feelings! Right, you silver-tongued mischief-maker?!~” The third eldest of the group cooed, turning towards him with an exaggerated adoring look. He complimented it with squishing his own cheeks together.

“Pisssssss off!-”, Deceit tried to snap back but recovered his mouth upon realizing he slipped up again for the second time that day. This didn’t happen often and it made the snake’s cheeks increase in color from embarrassment.

Patton gave a “playful” roll of his eyes with a smug smile, “We get it, kiddo! You’re a snake.”, The moral side wiggled his fingers and said with a stereotypical ghost voice, “Yes. You’re verrrryyyy spookyyy.~”

Deceit had stopped talking after that. Just like he always did when this happened. It was better than allowing Patton to get more material for his ridicule. Plus there was no way he could speak properly when he felt humiliated and flustered. So he might as well spare himself any further embarrassment.

Deceit rose from his seat on the couch and waved goodbye to his brothers, hand still lingering over his mouth. With that, he had teleported back to his room.

The others turned back to Patton with an icy stare. Patton beamed at them, joking about how Deceit always seemed to love solitude for some weird reason while making a bad snake pun about him slithering away.

The others were not amused. Patton pretended he didn’t pick up on their anger. After all, he had gotten Deceit to do exactly what he wanted for the day. Go away.
