you have single-handedly given me the inspiration/motivation to go back and finish this one drawing I started:
the aerial/circus arts are absolutely top tier pose inspiration, can confirm
needing to be stronger than you seem is such an accurate way to put it! Like - without trying it, if you consider it for even a second, of course you'd assume that it would take a lot of strength. But man it isn't until you try it - and keep working at it - that you realize just what it means to have the strength to move in the air on your chosen apparatus with both power and grace.
the aerial arts require full-body mastery and strength-- or at the very least, you'll certainly achieve it in the long run the more dedicated you are to learning the different apparatuses!
I really am obsessed with the aerial arts now (I'm currently practicing primarily in lyra - the hoop - and in silks, but I also love doing aerial straps and hope to learn the cordelisse/aerial rope someday soon!) (also starting to work on my handstands/acrobatic inversions, that's a whole other gorgeous challenge). The way your relationship with your own body changes... it's hard to put to words. Navigating space takes on such an increasingly active frame of mind and reference, while also becoming so meditative and full of the potential for entering that beloved flow state - just hngh I love it. I watch videos of other aerialists of all levels a lot now, and the appreciation I have for every step of the process is so real. Plus the gratification you feel when you finally gain the strength and stability and/or flexibility to nail something you've been working at-! And man, the community is so lovely, I haven't met a single other aerialist yet that wouldn't openly cheer in the middle of a practice for someone else managing a new move or finessing a long-worked-at one.
And lemme tell you the potential for application to OC/blorbos of your choosing.....................
from a scene of one catching the other in the middle of their movement in the air, the performer yet unaware of how they are watched by a suddenly deeply affected, previously-unknowing love interest.... to one in the middle of a sudden disaster, a ball or mansion or other big even on fire/attacked, using ropes or heavy curtains to quickly and gracefully climb up to a new level or descend with flair and grace and safe yet undeniable speed-- or perhaps merely the infinite potential of all the in-air poses and movements and mesmerizing shapes and positions an OC/fave can be depicted, and all the emotion that could possibly hold.........
hngh.
currently thinking about how fun and common it is to write Things You Are Into/Knowledgeable About into fics (or draw into art/comics, etc) but how quickly wild it can get depending on the level of niche interest
eg, i remember to this day a fic that was quite solid across the board, an entertaining though not mind-blowing ride— but it had the most in-depth and fascinating descriptions of *specific* leather tooling techniques. Leather work was not at all the focus of the plot. Just deeply worked in via a hobby or side necessity of the adventure that had the most loving descriptions ever and it was really clear what hobby the author had- and I loved it haha.
my current personal example is Oops, I Am an Aerialist Now and That Is Deeply Obviously An Author Insert Interest in any given fic lmao. How many Fancy 2 Story Curtains with Strong Anchoring can I work into a fic…….. how many curiously 3ish foot steel hoops hanging from a strap is too many…… a suspicious number of secure but loose ended vertical ropes is normal right………………… Chekhov’s rigging……………..
#lethalhoopla wips#(i guess XD)#lethalhoopla talks aerial/circus#that's probably a tag i should make now lmao#THANK YOU FOR ENCOURAGING ME I WILL NOT STOP IF I CONTINUE#XDDD#i'm just gonna bite the bullet at this point and make a series of oneshots featuring all the scenes I've imagined lmao#i was actually working on that pose just a week or two ago -w- lemme tell you the CORE required#to not just flop out of it#also you get to be absolute besties with Being Bruised lol#the inner thigh and quad as well as hamstring strength required to keep that stable grip on the hoop and to thread your opposite leg thru..#every aerialist can confirm it hurts but it feels SO good#we're all a bit masochistic in the end heheh
