after midnight - wayv this song is all about the baser/physical aspects of intimacy, it's night-based, and it talks a lot about secrets and desires. my favorite line is: that someone's scent and someone's secret, someone's scent breaks the gap between each other - which i'm sure sounds more eloquent in chinese. the summoning - sleep token i know this is the "token astarion thirst trap song" but i think i particularly like the lines: raise me up again, take me past the edge, i want to see the other side. new life, pushing boundaries in a healthy way.
rain - sleep token favorite lines: and i don't wanna get in your way but i finally think i can say that the vicious cycle was over the moment you smiled at me - nuff said.
hell above - pierce the veil cannot spend another night in this home i close my eyes and take a breath real slow the consequence is if i leave, I'm alone but what's the difference when you beg for love? this song is very astarion to me, i feel like it's reminiscent of his escape/kidnapping at the very beginning of the game, as well as that first sexual encounter.
first light - hozier another token astarion song! festé, to me, is very sun-coded. and i think this would be astarion's way of saying that he didn't know things could be this good before that damned imp walked unceremoniously into his life.
haunted - type o negative this part: a living flame, impossible to resist; burning me deep with every bite, kiss and lick. astarion's thirst, and the effect festé's blood and body seems to have on him. also, the way he can't figure them out even though they're very up-front about the things they say and do.

vampires will never hurt you - my chemical romance can you take this spike? will it wash away this jet black feeling? i think, deep down, he feels guilty for having to feed on them, and in general, being the way that he is. of course, they accept him fully but he doesn't accept that, not at the start. also heehoo vampire song
please please please let me get what i want - deftones good times for a change that's it, post. no but this version of this song to me speaks desire, not just melancholy and longing like the smiths (i honestly hate the smiths). deftones brought a more "feral" quality to this cover that i really like.
vore - sleep token your flesh and bone welcome me in, welcome me in are you in pain like i am? will we remain stuck in the throat of gods? will the pain stop if we go deeper? this one is for both of them, honestly. that moment where you realize that, emotionally and physically, you're in too deep with someone to quit, to cut things off.
irresistible - fall out boy this is just for the bdsm elements HAH. no but this entire song, i don't know why it fits them both exactly, but it does. the way they both go through the absolute worst trauma (both apart and together) and can still mostly laugh, shrug, make love, and keep on living.
w.a.m.s. - fall out boy my head's in heaven, my soles are in hell let's meet in the purgatory of my hips and get well on astarion's side, it's a song about feeling like he's the sum of his past deeds. on festé's, it's a song about meeting in the middle and being physically present.
big iron - marty robbins this... lmfao. i was listening to spotify on shuffle and i was like this is so... unserious. festé would love this song. but this (and the wanderer) point to the many adventures they've had before they met astarion. and how they're generally a judicious and "good" person.
the wanderer - dion festé slept around a lot before this, and on the surface, they might seem like a ripple on the water. moving around a lot, having lots of sexual conquests, etc. for as short as their life has been relative to astarion's, they've certainly lived a lot. he's changed them though, they want to stay in one place now.
drowning - radio company this is more under the surface with festé. i feel like if they were here in modern times, they would love folk and americana music. they may look like a thembo, but underneath that, they're emotionally complex and actually quite guarded. specifically this line: hold the day oh we pray to make it through the night i think would have been a hard-hitter in the very end of the netherbrain conflict. they were trying really hard to hold it together for the sake of everyone else, and that's something they really struggle with emotionally; feeling like the world rests on their shoulders.
forever ain't long - radio company take me to heaven or wherever you're from back where it started before the hurt came along this is love, plain and simple, from festé to astarion. it also hints at something they're going to go through in a much later chapter in the fic.
undisclosed desires - muse i listened to this a lot when i was writing //taking. festé is the type of top/dom that intensely cares about whoever it is that they're sleeping with. they're a service top, plain and simple. luckily, they're pretty forthcoming with how they approach topping someone else, though. they want to find exactly what the other person needs, and provide it. i know you've suffered but i don't want you to hide it's cold and loveless i won't let you be denied
coming of age ceremony - hyolyn, xia this song was another one i listened to a lot during //taking. it's about coming into a different role. it's the switch song. hahah it's actually a cover! i think the duet makes it really... sensual. give me twenty stems of roses so i can feel your love is a BAR. 20 roses is symbolic of sincerity and a deep belief in something, so i thought it fit well with the theme of commitment and exploration. (translation here!)
i'll keep you safe - sagun it's really simple, it's a lofi song. does what it says on the can. i imagine it being the background song to the two of them drifting off to sleep in each others' arms, as cheesy as that sounds. they haven't spent a night apart since act 2, give them a break.
tell it to my heart - meduza, hozier this is the song that plays in astarion's head whenever he gets really down on himself. i don't know that he'll ever truly believe he deserves someone like festé, and this is the little voice in his head confirming that. it alludes to him tending to misread situations that are actually innocent, which i think is something a lot of people who have trauma can relate to - jumping to the worst conclusions. what he doesn't know that deep down, they feel the same way.
it's not a side effect of the cocaine, i am thinking it must be love - fall out boy put your hand between an aching head and an aching world we'll make them so jealous we'll make them hate us those moments where astarion is trapped in his memories and he feels his imp touching him and grounding him back in the moment? yeah, i think of this line. they both want to show the other off, they're both so proud of each other and so DISGUSTINGLY in love.

hiiiiiii spi!!! i am so glad u asked me to do this because god i missed analyzing stuff and this one was VERY fun and interesting to do. so, without further adieu, under the cut is my analysis of wams!!!
as i tend to like to do w my analysis’ (analyses? whatever fksjdhf), we’re gonna start off with looking at the first verse and breaking it down as it needs to be from there, with wams starting off with: “I'm a young one stuck in the thoughts / Of an old one's head / When all the others were just stirrin' awake / I'm tryna trick myself to fall asleep again”
This entire first verse is very cohesive so is best to be analyzed together. to me, this is very much a commentary on the narrator’s loss of innocence, and this continued theme in the song of juxtaposition (here being the juxtaposition of young and old, others and myself), and loneliness too. essentially what i believe this first verse is trying to say is that our narrator is young, they know they’re still young, but they’ve been so weathered by the world, by their life experiences, that they feel their thoughts, their mind, is older than their body. not necessarily that they have an old soul at all, but more that they’ve just experienced and gone through so much that it’s altered their thoughts, maybe their view of the world, even. the second two lyrics continue to describe this, with the narrator saying that all other people are just beginning their lives and experiencing things, maybe just beginning true aging that can alter a person’s views and perceptions, while they’re trying to ‘fall asleep’, to shut his mind off, to quiet those thoughts and maybe even try to go back to where all the others just woke up from- a place of innocence and lack of world-view altering experience. 
“My head’s in Heaven, my soles are in Hell / Let’s meet in the purgatory of my hips and get well” is the pre-chorus that continues to solidify the juxtapositions seen throughout this song- with the obvious one here being Heaven and Hell. These lyrics are also continuing a commentary on the state of our narrator and their perception of the world and themself, with this essentially saying- their head, their thoughts (once again referencing their thoughts that have been altered and changed from innocent to not!) are only well intentioned, they wants to do his best and do good, their intentions/wants/hopes/dreams are in alignment with being Heavenly, approved by God. But one could interpret their soles being in Hell perhaps meaning their actions do not necessarily align with this, their Thoughts are good but what they Act Out is not as well intentioned or meaning. meanwhile, because their head is in heaven and feet are in hell, their hips are in purgatory- a neutral ground of sorts, where people go immediately after death to be purified before going to heaven. however, the narrator is dirtying the idea of purgatory by alluidng to sex with meeting in the purgatory of their hips to ‘get well’. with this, i think the narrator is absolutely trying to say that, to cope with their struggles, with the fact they want to act in one way but actually act in another, that they’re so young but feel so weathered by the world, they use sex. it’s a relatively common theme in fob songs, XO being a major example of using things like one night stands and sex to cope with heavy emotions and struggles, and i don’t think this lyric is at all immune from that theme. 
the chorus is rather interesting to me, with it reading, “Hurry, hurry / You put my head in such a flurry, flurry / Oh freckle, freckle, what makes you so special? / Oh, what makes you so special? / I'm gonna leave you / Oh, I'm gonna teach you / How we're all alone / How we're all alone”, and here i think the narrator, after spending the song before this detailing how damaged and weathered by the world, how they have sex just to escape their heavy feelings, is commenting on a person who perhaps, for once, actually helps ease the pain. that’s much more conjecture than actual hard analysis, but the lyrics clearly do lead me to believe that! with how they say this person, this muse, puts their head in a flurry and is almost accusatorily questioning what makes them so special. what makes them help our narrator feel Different than other people have made them feel. it’s something unfamiliar and uncomfortable to our narrator, and they respond much like an untrustworthy wild animal would towards kindness- lashing out. they’re gonna leave this person, they’re gonna teach them how we’re all alone. not only is the narrator leaving this person alone, but they’re forcing more loneliness upon themself because it’s what they’re used to. it’s comfortable to be lonely. plus, if they view everybody as alone, then they won’t be so othered from everyone else.
however, after our narrator pushes this person away, the next verse juxtaposes that with saying, “Guild me, build me, it's your club, so / Let me in (let me in) / Knowing how heartwarming it is inside / Your skin”. though this could be seen to be about a person, perhaps even the same person they were just talking about, i want to propose that the muse is shifted here. this song, to me, is really just account the narrators struggles and vices in life, and isn’t specifically about one muse or person at all. i feel, now, the narrator is discussing fame, or even more broadly just a desire for attention from anyone, not a specific person. even after forcing loneliness on themself, they don’t want to be alone. “Guild me, build me, it’s your club, so / Let me in” is showing the narrator’s desire to be included in something, to be built up by other people (turning themself into whatever others need them to be, even?), to get more attention and love that they desperately desire. they want this so bad that they want to be under their skin, which is commonly also a phrase used to describe when someone is annoyed/annoying someone, which Also says to me that they’re SO desperate for this love and attention that they’ll even go to lengths such as being irritating just to get it. 
until the outro, the rest of the song just repeats what we’ve already gone over with the pre-chorus and chorus, with the next new lyrics being the outro which says, “Mama, if we don't take the medication / We won't sleep for days, we won't sleep for days / And Mama, if we pray to the lord, oh / Does he sing on a stage? Does he sing on a stage? / We waste it all in the back of a long dark car / And I'm a sunshine machine / Uh, I want to get stuck, I want to get stuck / And be golden in your memory”, which is a lot so we’re gonna go break it down a bit more!
“Mama, if we don’t take the medication / We won’t sleep for days, we won’t sleep for days” is how the outro starts, with this making me think it could mean two things: to take it literally, they are just factually stating that if medication is not taken, sleep will not happen. this is just continuing to detail what the narrator has been the entire song, their problems and struggles with themself and the world. they struggle and suffer so much they need medication, whether this medication is literal as already discussed or more metaphorical/symbolic. what i mean by that is, maybe they don’t mean literal sleeping meds but instead mean they need what they use to cope- like sex, as was referenced earlier. or just the general things they do to get that surface-level love and attention they crave. i believe this also is such a heavy callback to the very beginning of the song, “When all the others were just stirrin' awake / I'm tryna trick myself to fall asleep again”, where the narrator is Now showing what they do to try and trick themself to fall asleep again.
“and Mama, if we pray to the lord, oh / Does he sing on a stage? Does he sing on a stage?” is probably the hardest to analyze lyric in this whole song, as i can’t say specifically what pete meant by this when he wrote it as it’s a sort of vague reference, very open to interpretation, i suppose. for my purposes, i feel as though this is the narrator wondering if they pray, maybe for a better life or less suffering or what have you, will god respond? will god respond in a grandiose way, singing on a stage, to me, representing god responding in a way that is clear and obvious (and helpful). i also feel this could be the narrator referencing finding solace and hope and help in music, asking if they pray to God, does God respond through things people use to cope, like with music. though i think this is meant to be interpreted less religiously than that sounds, with me more meaning if they pray, will they find hope in the things they use to cope and love, like in music. “We waste it all in the back of a long dark car / And I'm a sunshine machine”, is once again a lyric that i’m going to offer two interpretations for, both detailing the coping mechanisms the narrator has been referencing in this outro before now: sex and drugs. with sex, the narrator is saying they waste “it all” (themselves, their worth, their life) in the back of a limo (also a reference to fame!), with the sunshine machine part being more sarcastic with this interpretation, as clearly doing these depraved things to cope with life are not actually making them happy or sunshiney. with drugs, LSD used to be incredibly commonly called ‘sunshine’ (i also feel the need to mention that ‘sunshine’ is used to refer to drugs in 27 as well, which supports this being the ‘right’ interpretation) meaning the narrator could be saying they’re literally wasted in the back of a limo, while wasting themself and their life away, doing sunshine to make themself feel good in this depraved, conflicting, harrowing life they’re leading. the song ends with these lyrics, “I want to get stuck, I want to get stuck / And be golden in your memory”, a simple way to end such a complex and desperately sad song. the narrator, here, is essentially saying that they want to get stuck in your head, whether this be a literal fourth wall break to be saying they wanna get stuck in our, the fans, heads, or the former muse spoken about in this song, or just people’s head’s, broadly and unspecific. believe what you want, i can’t decide which fits best for you! and regardless, they want to get stuck in your head and become golden in your memory- golden, commonly meaning expensive and perfect, something to be sought after and revered. this absolutely fits with what we’ve heard from the narrator of the song so far- they just want to be loved and to have attention, they’re so horribly lonely and force themself to be lonely because it’s all they know. they’ve gone through so much, they’re so beaten and battered, they just want to be golden to somebody. they just want to be special to somebody, even if they'll end up pushing that person away. because as much as they want that, we're all alone, and that's all they think we'll ever be.

It was not an uncommon occurrence for Eddie to have a hangover.
Being able to consume drugs and actually feel the effects of them was one of the more bittersweet parts of taking up his human vessel. The start of the night tended to be the most fun with new faces and drinks all blurring into a symphony of colours. Slashes of light cutting through the grimy dance floor, past the crowd and whoever managed to pull Eddie into their orbit.
Letting people think they were the ones leading him to them was half the fun. The rest, well…
He clutched the side of his head, eyes squinting under the bright morning sun through dark sunglasses. Eddie still couldn’t find it in himself to regret last night. Or the last few weeks of exploring the city, one bar crawl at a time.
It wasn’t until he found himself stumbling into a metal chair that attempted to look around at where he was walking.
“Stupid little-” Eddie groaned, flipping off the inanimate object and cursing the fleshy bounds of his current state. He walked a few feet back to try and read the golden letters painted across darkened glass.

Huh.
Eddie hadn’t been in and around Indianapolis in who knows how long. That was the thing about never sticking around that long. Even after a few years the atmosphere becomes unrecognizable. Whether distorted by the memories of the past or by the expectations of the future, kicking around in his old stomping grounds usually meant that there was something interesting happening.
And this storefront called to him.
The outside maintained the same historical structure as the other storefronts, stained wood with golden embellishments. Eddie pulled on the brass glass door handle and heard a soft chime ring above him. He was first hit with the metallic sheen of sleek metal tables, contrasted against exposed brick lining the interiors. 
Each table had some kind of white box as a centerpiece, thin ropes leaking from parts it it, cascading onto some connection in the walls. A few people gathered around each of them, ooo-ing and aaa-ing at things that Eddie couldn’t see but was curious about all the same. There was a set of staircases at the back of the store, and Eddie could make out a few bookshelves tucked behind metal railings.
The call of some human’s name alerted him to the bar pushed against one side, polished wooden countertops, and a flurry of workers running behind it to make…
Eddie let the smell of freshly ground coffee hit his nose, the smog of the streets seeming to have vanished in the cozy space.
A coffee shop.
How quaint.
He could definitely use a good cup of bean juice at this early hour, although it wouldn’t hurt to poke around a bit. It was already weird enough to head into a strange place like this and see people this excited at ass o’clock in the morning.
Eddie was a curious piece of shit by nature, which was why he saw no problems with heavily leaning on some guy's shoulder to try to get a look at what was written on the boxes.
Flashing images, mostly of a document with a few growing rows of letters as the guy pushed down on the buttons in front of him.
Eddie watched with rapt attention at whatever this guy was inputting, until he noticed him stopping entirely.
“Do you mind?” The guy asked, a bright shock of blue eyes meeting Eddie’s.
“No, I don’t mind. I’m actually really interested to see what you were planning on talking to with-” Eddie grabbed the man’s shoulder to push him away from the written scripture, “Michelle.” A light, airy laugh bubbled out of him, “My, oh my, you saucy little thing” Eddie teased him, waggling his eyebrows at his mortified expression.
The other man blushed furiously, and Eddie took great glee in making the man stumble over his own words, frantically trying to delete what he’d written, only he was tapping the delete button once at a time, which left Eddie all the time in the world to continue reading.
“Hey- hey hey, man… back off.”
“Oh… there’s no need to be embarrassed,” Eddie roughly patted the guy’s shoulders, “Although… I was wondering…” Eddie waved his hands around the box, “What exactly this machine is. Seems like quite the thing to have you repeating such ungodly language at a public establishment.”
“Oh… uh… it’s a computer… y’know, and- and- email.”
“E-mail?”
“Yeah, well, um, I’m just going to-” and then the man dashed right past Eddie, running past the exit with the only evidence of him that dull chime above the door. A cool chill raked up Eddie’s spine at the fresh burst of air pushing through the café, and he hiked his leather jacket further up his shoulders.
Eddie turned to face the box, computer, carefully poking at the now dark screen. There was an odd buzz against his skin where flesh met machine, static building on his fingertips as he sat where the mystery man had once been.
The computer was on still, although the juicy letter the man had been concocting had disappeared. He tried to not let his disappointment slip though as he further assessed the machine.
Brows furrowed, he glanced down at the plastic board below him, squares with different letters attached, although he found it weird that they weren’t in alphabetical order.
With one hand, he pressed the ‘E’ button on the board down and had to contain the urge to jump at the sight of the screen coming to life.
Interesting…
The display was a stark white, with black text.

Such a shame that he rarely carried money on him anyways. It would’ve been nice to have snooped around the machine.
A hand suddenly came into his view, placed beside the box. Short bitten nails clung to fingertips adorned with a few golden bands, a clear tan line visible at the dip of the person’s wrist. Swipes of hair like brushstrokes against the slightly tanned hand. Tendons flexing with the loose grip on the table below them. Eddie felt magnetized to the new presence, following to where the origin of the ghostly limb had come from.
Turning his head to the side, he followed the lines of a delicate wrist turned to strong forearms, ending at the rolled sleeves of a white button up shirt pulled taunt over thick biceps. From under his lashes, Eddie stared at one of the most handsome men he’d ever laid eyes on, a shy smile framed by dark brows and beautiful brown eyes.
“I can lend you a quarter if you want to try out our systems,” the beautiful stranger spoke, nodding towards the coin slot by the machine. With his free hand, he placed it over his chest, a smile bright enough that Eddie almost squinted like he was staring directly at the sun. “I’m Steve, by the way.”
Steve… Steve…
He let himself toss the name around in his head, testing the feel of it before letting it bloom against his palate, the taste of his name sinfully sweet.
“Steve, is it?” Eddie asked, voice lowering as the shock settled back into the ease of mind he was used to.
The man’s brows created a cute little furrow that Eddie would’ve killed to be buried in. “Yeah… uh, s’what I said…” he mumbled.
At the quick glance towards Steve’s plush, pink lips, and Eddie felt a mischievous smile curl against his own face.
Oh, this is gonna be fun.
The stool creaked as he leaned further back, and for a brief, beautiful moment, Eddie felt the heat radiating off the other man, his head almost touching Steve’s shoulder.
And then Steve straightened up, leaving Eddie cold again.
But hopefully not for long.
“Y’know…” Eddie clicked his tongue. “I think I left my wallet at home.” Chipped black nails danced against the table, and he noticed Steve staring at them. “Wouldn’t it be nice if I knew a handsome stranger, willing to spare a quarter…”

My first response is a given, if you've poked around my blog or know me. I'll pick five albums! This is a long one, so elaborations on my answers and honorable mentions will be below the cut! I've also put hyperlinks with on the name of any album or EP that I mention, even if it's a mention and not on the list.
I actually had a hard time picking and realized that for a lot of the artists I listen to and have songs I consider favorite songs in general, I've never actually gone through and listened to full albums. So anything on this list are full albums I am familiar with.

I unfortunately am unhinged about FOB. I don't know why. Anyway, I love Folie and my favorite FOB song of all time is "I Don't Care," the most well known song from the album. Ironically there's a Hetalia MEP from the early 2010's to this song, but I don't think that has anything to do with my favoritism for it, lol. I am SO sad that I Don't Care was cut from their recent tours; I was lucky enough to have seen FOB on the first and second legs of the So Much (for) Stardust tour, and it was sad to see such a set staple go (but it was worth it to see FOB play so many songs they've never played live before).
I really like how the whole album is commentary about fame as a whole, most specifically the negative aspects. I would pick apart each song and pull my favorite lines and what I think about them, but I don't want this post to turn into more of an essay than it already will be. All I have to say is this album, as well as some other influences, have inspired me to make a whole Hetalia band/fame AU about the dangers of fame, societal pressure, and the loss of one's self.
My top three songs from the album:
20 Dollar Nosebleed & West Coast Smoker -- I know this is two songs, and this spot really belongs to West Coast Smoker, but hear me out. These are the last two songs on the record and they're two signs of the same coin -- The highs and lows of a high and/or drug addiction. I especially adore the literal transition between the two songs - I am a SUCKER for when one song leads into the next. I actually made a patch for my jacket from WCS, "I'm a nervous wreck".
w.a.m.s -- This song just gives me a lot of thoughts about my favorite ships. "My head's in heaven, my soles are in hell / Let's meet in the purgatory of my hips and get well / Hurry, hurry / You put my head in such a flurry, flurry / What makes you so special?"
Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On A Bad Bet -- Seeing FOB live made me have new appreciation for this song. I love the sound overall and it's really fun to sing. I love getting to hear the highs and lows of Patrick Stump's vocal range. The lyric "Does your husband know the way that the sunshine gleams from your wedding band?" makes me want to write heart wrenching things
Riot!- Paramore (2007)
I think Riot has the reputation it deserves. It's genuinely such a good album and deserves the love it gets. I don't have particular attachment to this album other than it's a good time

I don't have a particular reason for liking this album so much? I listen to music kinda wrong in that I don't listen to the meaning of the lyrics for most songs (note: there is no wrong way to listen to music, but the sound of a song is what matters most to me. If I can't get into how it sounds, I won't be inclined to really listen to the lyrics). So the songs or the album as a whole don't have particular importance to me besides this is just a good listen and I enjoy it. I do read over some of the lyrics once in a while and am like Oh! (but in a good way)
This is genuinely a no skips album for me. I like to throw this on once in a while.

Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge - My Chemical Romance (2004)
Revenge is my favorite MCR era <3 I was obsessed with the music videos for "Helena" when I was younger. I also love the album art. I think it's popular for good reason. I cried the whole way through Helena when I saw MCR back in 2022. That being said, it's ironic that Helena isn't even in my top three songs from the album. My favoritism towards this album have to do with the sound - I can't describe it other than Revenge is such a... sharp? Sounding album? I also know it probably doesn't count, but I'm fond of "Interlude" and genuinely put it on my playlists. I feel about it the same way that I do about "Romance" from MCR's I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love.
My top three from the album:
I Never Told You What I Do For A Living -- I should not be allowed to listen to this when I'm driving. That's all I have to say. I also love that this song has a bit of a tone(?) shift? About halfway through we get the very melodic "and never again, and never again / they gave us two shots to the back of the head" lines where it slows down momentarily before picking back up

Love Me Forever - Pinkshift (2022)
I wish I had more to say other than that I really genuinely love this album. I love Pinkshift so much. If their 2021 EP Saccharine was an album and not an EP, that would've gone here instead. I am also in LOVE with their 2023 EP Suraksha.
Love Me Forever would have ranked higher if I had any sort of explanation other than I really love this band.
