CREATOR'S NOTES:
Let's start with the accessories of this set. There are two sets of earrings; "Hilary Earrings," one with small hoops and a coin as a pendant, and "Kylie Hoops," two hoops, one smaller than the other. Kylie comes in two versions; the difference is that the bigger hoop is smaller in the second version. Both items are gorgeous and so easy to style; I'm loving them.
"P!nk Beanie" is a simple beanie but still beautiful and stands out in the outfit. It comes in two different versions with plenty of swatches to choose from. The main difference between the two versions is the tag on the back of the beanie; version one has, and the two haven't. Plus, they have different color palettes.
And last but not least, "Christina Nails," a new set of nails with two different versions. Version 1 is a cute french tip, but with a little twist - they're colorful! And just for fun, I did the same nails with plain colors without the french tip (Version 2), just because of this new medium/small shape I did for this new nail design.
Now the clothes, "Hayley Sweater and Bodysuit," is very cute, but also edgy. I liked this bodysuit design; I'm considering remaking it as a new item. I'll have to draw the top part and a new mesh; it's no big deal. What do you guys think about this idea? It comes in various swatch options. I added as many as possible, but since it was already 190 and the end of the month, I figured I should probably stop, or I'd never finish it! As 190 swatches weren't enough (hahaha), I did a recolor acc for recolor the sweater in 55 plain colors.
"Avril Pants" is an oversized cargo jeans that come in two versions - one with patches and one without. In both versions, they look very edgy and beautiful. The patches are available in two styles: one with just one color in different shades (like light to dark red) and the other with varying combos of color (like red+pink+blue).
All these items are inspired by the Y2K fashion but with my personal style mixed into it, too. I love the nostalgia of the 2000s, and it's been a huge inspiration for me when creating outfits and CC in the past. Still, as it's more trendy and I like it, I decided to do my first outfit for this set based on the fashion trend from the 2000s. I am anxious to design the following outfit for this set; I want to do a Nostalgia Set, a huge and complete set encompassing the most fashion eras possible.
And as always, all these items have been made to be worn together or separately - whatever you decide! I hope you like these items and enjoy playing with them. XOXO <33

sorry for bad english want to know how you do your eye make like this can please tell
you’re so sweet! and honey, don’t worry about your english! i understood just fine! if it’s easier for you to use your native language, that’s perfectly fine! i can just use a translator <3
i’ll try to explain my process very clearly and detailed!
so i’m going to describe just a basic eye look for me, not something very difficult or complicated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. primer
first, you want to prime your eyelids to make your eyeshadow last longer, prevent creasing, and show up more vibrant.
this can be whatever concealer you use for your face, that works just fine :)
after you blend out a little bit of concealer on your eyelids, lightly set it with some setting powder.
2. eyeshadow
i would start with neutral shades if you’re a beginner as they’re less intimidating and easier to work with.
i’m going to use a screenshot of a palette that i have, and then circle shades that i use in order to show examples of what shades you should use :)
this is anastasia beverly hills soft glam palette.
Tumblr media
3. eyeshadow application
what you want to do is start with a small amount of a dark matte brown, on a pencil brush. i know that might sound weird but just trust me. it’ll place the color down in a concentrated area for you before you blend it.
here’s the shade of brown.
Tumblr media
and here is where you wanna place it.
Tumblr media
then blend that with a fluffy brush, with no product on it.
Tumblr media
then use that same fluffy brush and blend it with a lighter matte brown
here’s the brown shade.
Tumblr media
after you’ve blended it out, keep on blending. blend until there’s a gradient between the lighter brown and your skin tone.
if need be, go back in with that pencil brush from earlier and dip into the darker brown just a little bit. you can use that to deepen the color. if you do that, blend a little bit with the fluffy brush.
what i usually do is go in with a glitter, so i take a liquid glitter/shimmer eyeshadow (i think elf makes good ones, but there’s a lot of others if you don’t like that brand) and apply that to my eyelid.
here’s where it’s applied. it’s really just on my lid, and into my crease, but not really touching the brown eyeshadow. it’s pretty much mimicking a cut crease. then i go in and tap some of the lighter brown onto the outer edge of the liquid eyeshadow to make it melt together.
Tumblr media
i added liner but that’s optional! i’ve had years of experience for makeup in general, but especially eyeliner so if you want an additional tutorial (?) let me know!
also, if you (or anyone really) want a tutorial (?) on my more graphic, colorful looks (or my base routine) pls let me know!
LOVE YOU MWAH <333 let me know if you need anything else!
edit: my sweet anon dropped by to add this bit of advice that is SO TRUE. while i was making this post, my sister was talking to me about family drama so i was distracted and it must’ve slipped my mind. “depending on your skin color, you’d wanna change up what colors of brown you use, cus like if you have lighter skin, that’s gonna look more dramatic with those colors, and if you have darker skin, it’ll look a little more natural or possibly barely even be visible. it would probably be helpful to play around with the tones and shades to see what looks best and what you like most on yourself!!”
so please please explore different brands, palettes, etc to find shades that will best suit your skin tone! hugs <33

Hey! I'd love to hear your opinion on two things of the Halloween Mystic Messenger screen
First of all what do you think of Rika in the Dirndl (germans traditional women clothing) I think she looks quite snazzy, the colors are unusual on her but she looks gorgeous either way
Second of all, do you think Rika is Hänsel, Gretel, or the witch cause I am not sure. Like for the role she plays in the game, the witch would make a lot of sense, but she only gets out of her house after the children started eating her house, so I doubt it. And I forgot who was the one wanting to eat the house first of the siblings so I don't know 😭 I tried gaining understanding by looking at MC's clothes. But I have no idea what she is wearing, so I am at a loss and would love to hear your take on it!
Sending lots of love, dear <33
Hi! Thank you so much for such a in-depth ask, it was a ton of fun to sit and muse with my thoughts and ideas on Rika's birthday CG we got.
So, first of all, I gotta agree with you there: that's definitely a form of dirndl she's wearing! The designs look awfully similar for it to be a mere coincidence to me. These dresses can come in so different designs so it's a very versatile type of clothing to work with. Here are some examples of what I mean:
Tumblr media
And here's Rika's dress up close for comparison:
Tumblr media
Personally, I adore dirndls and their rustic yet elegant look. Never knew the specific term for such a dress, but now I do! It's not a sophisticated dress per se, but the simple beauty it brings out makes me super happy. If you think about it, it does fit Rika quite well. While she certainly loves to dress up every once in a while, her day-to-day style is quite modest in its nature. She's not wearing any dark colors in this cg, but it's not the pure white dress we saw on her two years ago either. To be honest, this color palette of green and blue on her makes me smile. It's not black or white, there's no darkness or light. At least, not in a way that would get your attention right away. She's not trying to embody the darkness or the light here. Instead, it's such a peaceful and soothing combination of colors, and I think it fits her very well. I also really like the yellow apron she's wearing! Is it, possibly, a callback to the dress we see on her in the game and the past she's trying to forget, only for it to remain by her side in one shape or another? Who knows, but it's a fun theory. Though, it should be noted that her outfit is still done in a cold color palette. It's certainly a way more colourful look on her than we're used to seeing, but in spite of all that, there's a certain type of deep melancholy surrounding her, even with a gentle smile brightening up her features.
Tumblr media
Okay, now that we're done with her dress, let's talk symbolism! I'm gonna put up the whole CG now:
Tumblr media
I'll be completely honest and say that it's been a while since I've read Hänsel and Gretel, so I had to quickly reread it to get a good feel of the story. It's very easy to assume that Rika's the witch leading MC away with the alluring promise of endless sweetness, only to trap them the moment they let their guard down. After all, the castle of Magenta sure does fit the sweet and inviting exterior of the witch's candy house pretty well. At first, it seems like a dream come true to the hungry and tired children, up until the very moment they finally get inside and see the ugliness hidden within these candy walls. That's what I thought of at first too! But, after rereading this story for your ask, I actually got another idea all together.
See, in the story, Gretel was wearing an apron. Not sure if she was wearing it from the very beginning, or after they finally freed themselves from the witch's clutches, but it's definitely there! And what do we see Rika wearing? That's right! An apron. Furthermore, I decided to look into the way Gretel is portrayed visually. To my surprise, she's often seen dressed in a classic dirndl. Which is actually not that surprising, since this story was published in 19th century in Germany, but hey, I didn't know that before :D Gretel was also the one leading Hänsel to the candy house, if I'm remembering it correctly.
So yes! Everything actually points to Rika being Gretel instead of a witch. Which means that MC is definitely Hänsel. This opens up a whole other possibility from a narrative standpoint. I wonder who the witch is then, though... But, I must admit, I REALLY like the idea of Rika initially helping the witch, albeit reluctantly and through her own tears, only to eventually find enough courage inside herself to break free and trick her, saving MC with her own hands. It's a nice parallel, considering that Hänsel (MC) was initially the one leaving pebbles and breadcrumbs to make sure that they'll return back home safe and sound. MC was also the one caring for Rika and promising her that everything will turn out okay.
Though, Rika still very much could be the witch, and I'm just looking way too deeply into this '^^ But, I must admit, I like the idea of her being Gretel much better. I want her to be happy!
Perhaps, Mika is the witch here. She's the one that first planted the idea for Mint Eye in Rika's head and she's the one telling her what to do for a short while. Mika playing the role of a witch that lured Rika and MC into her candy house only to force Rika to do her bidding does kinda fit the story. Maybe she locked MC up, because they were trying to warn Rika not to listen to her. I always loved the idea of MC knowing Rika before the start of the game, and how that would change up the narrative all together. I'd say that the father they return to in the end of the story is V, since he was the one genuinely caring for the kids, however his kind heart still did not stop him from unknowingly leading them to their doom. It does fit him quite well, I think. He's a good man doing his best and failing in the process, like we all do sometimes. Though, I have no idea who should be the evil mother... She's the one that quite literally abandoned Hänsel and Gretel in the middle of a forest, so... I don't know. I could go for a literal route and choose Rika's mother, but it's still feels kinda iffy and on the nose for it to make sense.

this is the junko anon from before, i wanted the cammer au for that ask i just forgot to specify !!! that's my bad, my apologies for the confusion. you don't have to write it on your main blog

Tumblr media
Junko buzzed around the room, humming idly to herself as she picked up various different bottles and toys to use on you during the stream.
Her fake nails were discarded in the rhinestone-clad trash can beside the bed that you laid on, bare skin rubbing up on the silken sheets. The AC whirred in the background of her humming, filling the room with both white noise and cold air.
Your eyes lingered on Junko as she casually made her way towards the tripod that held her bright pink phone, swaying her hips a little extra to tease you, knowing full well that you were staring at her.
She tapped at her phone a couple times, before getting on the bed. She switched around the light that was over your heads, dimming it slightly. Then, she moved behind you, letting you sit against her chest, head between her breasts.
She squinted at the phone as some fans joined to read the chat, waving hello at the camera.
"Hey everyone, it's Junko, y'know, the most beautiful, fabulous, amazing girl in the world that you all want to date." She spoke in a monotone, contrasting her regular cheerful tone.
You watched her reflection in the phone silently, heating up at the scene, despite the high AC.
"I was feeling super-duper sad today because, like, wow, I'm rich and hot and just, like, a really great human being, this is so boring. So then, I had the idea to, like, meet up with my boyfriend, who always makes me less bored! He said he wants to, like, join me for this stream, so everyone say hi to my cute boyfriend! Isn't he just, like, the prettiest little thing you've, like, ever seen? Besides me, of course." She asked rhetorically, wrapping her arms around your waist. "Anyways, like, what should I stick in my boyfriend guys? I'm sure he'll look sexy, like, no matter what I stick in his cute butt!"
The chat flooded with various messages, some answering your girlfriend's question, others complaining about the fact that she has a boyfriend. She read through them from her spot behind you, before reaching for one of the several phallic toys on the nightstand to your right.
"I didn't really, like, read the whole chat, but I saw, like, six messages that said the princess dildo so I'm using it! You can take it, right puddin'?" She took hold of your hair and tugged on it, looking you directly in the eye with those sultry grey-blue eyes of hers.
Your eyes couldn't leave hers and because of that, you couldn't see the object that she planned on stuffing into you. From how it felt on your chest, though, it seemed pretty big, maybe seven or eight inches. You swallowed, nodding eagerly as she looked down at you through her long lashes.
"I... think so." You muttered, heat flushing through your body.
She grinned wide, pressing a kiss to your forehead. "You're, like, really adorable."
As you reveled in the praise she gave you so softly, you felt something cold and wet pressing against your entrance. It was your girlfriend's fingers, slick with lube. It smelled slightly of plastic, but you ignored it, distracted by the her pushing her fingers inside you, moving in and out slowly.
She wasn't particularly careful of your feelings when she did things like this, but rather, she liked gouging reactions out of you, only going slow to tease you.
Goosebumps rose on your hot skin, her cold hands running all over your body, lips on your neck. Through your blurred vision, you could just barely make out the chat, but the comments were rolling in. They were mixed, most of the comments complimenting the two of you or telling you to hurry up.
You were about to read some more, but when you felt her fingers scissor at your hole, you couldn't help but break your focus, clutching at the sheets.
Her fingers moved quickly, stretching you out and pounding against that spot that made your eyes roll back into your head.
"Come on, honeybuns! You're doing so well! Come on, just a little more now! I want to see my pretty boyfriend all ruined for me~!" She mumbled into the top of your head. Your hand gripped at her bare thigh, bracing yourself.
"A-ah! Junko!" You whimpered as she fucked you deeper, feeling her abuse that spot inside you that had you seeing stars.
Electricity ran through your shaking body, setting your nerves on fire as you released all over your girlfriend's long fingers. She pulled out her fingers, reaching over your body to grab that pink, sparkly dildo from earlier, that she'd dubbed 'the princess dildo'.
You wondered why she gave her sex toys names, and when you asked her, she'd argued that if you had a name, why couldn't her other toys have names? That conversation played in your mind often and you felt yourself flush at the thought of her using you as a toy.
Noticing your shifting, she planted her palms on your hips, pinning them down to the bed with some extra pressure as she read through the chat.
"Oh come on, you guys know that kind of thing isn't gonna fit inside him! Like, yeah, I know I said I wanted to break him, but like, I doubt he can take nine and a half inches, never mind the girth! He's gonna split my sweet darling into two!" She cooed in response to the chat, planting kisses on your forehead.
Maybe it's because your mind was so hazy, but you wanted to prove that you could take anything she gave to you, no matter how big. Your hand reached over her, fingers curling over the biggest one there, which she'd nicknamed 'King'.
It was a little over nine inches and was so thick you could barely fit your fingers around it.
"Eh? What're you up to, you little troublemaker?" Your girlfriend laughed, leaning her head into your neck affectionately. "You're gonna, like, ride it for me or something?"
With a stiff nod, you sank down on it, mewling softly as you felt yourself stretching out on the plastic. One hand held the toy down, preventing it from falling over, while your other was hooked around Junko's neck, hanging on for dear life. The stretch was mildly uncomfortable and you struggled putting it any further.
"Junko..." you spoke in a low whisper, looking up at her for help.
She looked down at you as if you were a piece of trash, before giving in. "Fine. Give me the toy."
She strapped the dildo onto her body easily, guiding you to lay on your chest, hands firmly holding your hips. With little warning, she pushed into you forcefully.
"Mーya! Ah! Nngh..." you mewled out as she pushed in harshly.
"Aw, you're, like, so cute! Look how tiny you are, I can see it in your belly!" She gushed, pressing down on your stomach, earning a whimper from you. "Are you too full, baby? You're, like, totally adorable right now! I can't even get it all the way in!"
A burning heat spread all over your body, the euphoric feeling of her hitting your sweet spot too much to bear. Tears ran down your cheeks and you let out a choked sob, before you came all over the toy, shaking hands coming up to wipe your eyes.
You were abruptly knocked back over with a kiss, when you tried to get up. "You were so good, baby, I love you, I love you!"
The chat screamed with notifications, filling up so fast that you wouldn't be able to read it if you tried. She moved towards it, rolling her eyes.
"Shut up, I'm trying to kiss my boyfriend!"

— doing their eyeliner at 12AM
includes: bakugou, kaminari, kirishima, and hawks
warnings: suggestive (LOTS of making out)
a/n: did i write this just because i love doing my eyeliner and i really want to sit on a guy’s lap while i do his???? maybe. but that’s none of your business 🙄☝️
Tumblr media
bakugou katsuki
it’s canon that he wears eyeliner and even if it wasn’t,,, he’d still try it at least ONCE
in this case you had to ask him
well more like beg him
“babe please, i promise i’ll make a good work!”
“how? you suck at doing yours”
you scoff before punching his arm, making him let out a hiss as he glares at you
“i don’t you idiot, now can you shut up and stay still for a second?”
of course he ends up giving in bc come on, he’d do anything just to make you happy and if that meant letting you put makeup on him at 12AM because you thought he’d look ‘pretty’ then so be it
bakugou doesn’t voice out any of this though
instead, he keeps complaining and even tickles your sides from time to time just to get on your nerves
“bakugou,” he frowns when his last name falls from your lips, not liking how it sounded at all. “stop fucking moving or i’ll stap your eye.”
“tch, stop telling me what to do, dumbass.”
but he does stop
after all, he didn’t really want you to get mad at him
he entertains himself by tapping his fingers against your thighs to the beat of the music playing from your speaker
his touch makes butterflies flutter in your stomach, but you ignore them and continue to draw on his eyelids
you decide to keep it simple; just a very defined line that’s not too thick, but enough so that it’s visible
“okay, i’m done”
after you put the eyeliner down and notice bakugou’s eyes were focused on you, you completely forget how to breathe
the black makes his vermilion eyes look even brighter and in contrast with his blonde hair...he simply looks beautiful
he takes your silence as a bad sign and thinks you probably did fuck up, but when he looks at himself in his phone camera, the makeup looks fine to him so,
why the heck weren’t you saying anything?
“what is it? do you not like it?”
didn’t like it? couldn’t he see you were practically salivating bc of him?
“uh no, you look really good actually,” you look away before continuing, not trusting yourself to look at him while you said the next words. “you look pretty”
bakugou is a little surprised by the compliment, but he wastes no time before teasing you
he leans in, and once he’s close enough, he takes your chin so you’re looking directly at him
a smirk takes over his lips when your eyes avoid his
“what’s got you so shy?” he teases
“i’m not”
“then look at me”
you didn’t want him to know how big of an effect he had on you, so you turn your head around and face him, even tho you’re flustered beyond belief
his eyes slowly look down at your lips and then back to your eyes, making you a little anxious as to what could happen, but bakugou decides to drags it out
just to have some fun of his own
he places one of his hands on the back of your neck, gently pulling you forward until your noses are almost touching
the other one caresses your cheek softly, then his fingers slowly trace out your jaw, eyes still stuck on your own
it’s infuriating really
the way his fingers carefully touch your lips, applying a bit more pressure on his thumb that’s touching your lower lip so he can open your mouth ever so slightly
the way he acts as if he has all the time in the world, as if he could do this all day
and you know he can
but you don’t
so you lean in to close the distance with a deep kiss
it’s messy and sloppy; his tongue clashing with your own as his hands roam all over your body to feel you
you end up sitting on his lap, lips still connected and hands all over each other
you pull away, chest heaving as rough breaths leave your mouth and smirk when you notice bakugou is looking at you
his hair is messy thanks to your gripping and the eyeliner fits him so nicely
for a moment you almost can’t believe he’s your boyfriend
“have i ever told you how handsome i think you are?” you ask him with a goofy smile on your face, fingers playing with the ends of his hair
“hm, once or twice but you can always remind me again”
“let me just show you”
he quirks an eyebrow at your implication, licking his lips as his eyes darken
“oh? bold, aren’t we now?”
“learned from the best”
“fuck yeah you did”
to keep it short, you guys didn’t sleep a lot that night 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
Tumblr media
kaminari denki
he was DEFINITELY the one that came up with the idea
something just tells me he probably spends 90% of his time scrolling through tiktok
and if he feels like it, maybe he’ll even posts some of his own
so it’s no surprise that he’s caught up with all the trends and challenges
and even dances (which surprisingly, he’s damn good at)
i’m guessing you guys already know what i’m trying to get at
he had seen way too many tiktoks of couples doing their partner’s eyeliner and he thought it was the coolest thing ever
not only was he curious to see how the makeup would look on him, but he also just wanted an excuse to spend more time with you
he had been thinking about it for a few weeks now, but couldn’t seem to find the perfect moment to ask you
until one night you guys were having a sleepover on your dorm and a video of said trend pops up on his ‘fyp’
you’re cuddling, your head against his chest as his fingers trace random pattern on your back, when he brings it up
“hey babe?”
you hum in response, eyes fluttering open to look up at kaminari
he smiles before pecking your lips, thinking about how beautiful you look all cuddled up next to him
“do you think you could do my eyeliner real quick?”
the question takes you by surprise,
tho you’re used to yout boyfriend being quite spontaneous and random at times, so you don’t really question it
instead, you nod and move out of the bed to get the makeup product, which sits on your vanity
“where should i sit?”
he asks you once you walk over to him, but you simply smile before taking a seat on his lap
you position your legs on either side of his hips so you’re in a straddling position and kaminari almost forgets all about the makeup because of this
but can you really blame him?
you just look so perfect like this
he has to physically stop himself from flipping you over and kissing you all he wants
and you giggle when you notice a pout forming on his face
“what’s wrong?”
“nothing”
“you sure?”
“yeah, just hurry up and do it so i can kiss you”
you laugh, “yes sir”
when you start, he can’t help but giggle at the feeling and you have to hold his face in place so he would stop moving
he gets used to it after a while
almost even falls asleep from how soft your other hand felt on his cheek
since you know kaminari likes to be a little extra, you attempt to draw a lighting bolt right below one of the lines
it’s not the best, but it looks decent enough so you decide to leave it there
but when you finish, you feel like something is missing; like it could be better
then you have the fantastic idea to use eyeshadow
kaminari feels you getting up from his lap and he whines
“where are you going?”
“hold on, i’m feeling inspired right now”
“okay?”
he doesn’t understand what you mean at all, but he lets you be
you take a random eyeshadow palette and make sure it has a nice black color on it
then you reposition yourself on his lap
“open your eyes and look up”
he does as he’s told and you proceed to put some more black on his lower lash line and waterline (not too much)
when kaminari doesn’t feel your touch on his face anymore, he looks down at you with a smile, which inevitably makes you smile too
“how do i look?”
you chuckle lowly, examining his eyes once more
he always looks gorgeous, but the eyeliner just...makes him hit different
and the fact he’s wearing one of his chokers doesn’t make it any better
he looks straight out of alt tiktok
“you, my beautiful boyfriend, look very attractive”
he smirks at your teasing tone, “oh? is that so?”
“i’m afraid it is”
he doesn’t even bother looking in the mirror because all he could think about was kissing you
and that’s what he does
he holds your face with both of his hands before pulling you in to kiss you
his lips feel hot and so does your whole body when he grips your hips
after a few more kisses, he pulls away and looks at you with excited eyes
“can i do yours now?”
you chuckle at his cuteness before nodding and letting him draw on your face
it’s not perfect, but hey! baby tried his best and that’s all that matters
besides he looks so proud of himself, telling you how cute you look and how lucky he is to call you his
“you look soooo pretty! i mean you always do, of course, but you look even prettier which i didn’t know was humanly possible yet here you are”
he ends up going on a rant about all the things he loves about you and you’re pretty sure you have hearts in your eyes by the time he ends
“i love you”
“i love you too, my pretty girl”

kirishima eijirou:
this man has absolutely tried on eyeliner at least once in his life
has it been good? probably not
but he likes it and thinks it looks very cool
sometimes you do yours and kirishima lives for it
he likes the way it compliments the shape of your eyes and how happy you get when you get the line right from the first try
whenever you’re getting ready and he’s with you, he doesn’t take his eyes off you
a smile spreading across his lips when he sees you bite down on your lower lip in concentration, your fingers skillfully tracing the marker on your eyelids
and that’s when the idea pops in his head
he ponders on it for a while tho, not sure how to bring it up or if you’d be up to do it
it takes him a few days before he asks you and when he does, he looks all nervous
you’re both hanging out in his dorm cuddling as you just finished watching a movie
a yawn leaves your lips and you stretch your arms, looking at the time on your phone screen
it reads 12:33 AM
you hum, moving your head up to look at kirishima from your place on his lap
he looks down at you and offers you a sweet smile before placing a quick kiss on your lips
“i should get going,” he pouts at your words, his hold on your waist tightening so you couldn’t stand up and you giggle, turning around completely so you’re facing him
you wrap your hands around his neck to pull him closer, just until your lips touch
you teasingly smirk at him before kissing his cheek and he frowns
“what? don’t you like my kisses?” you pout at him
kirishima scoffs at your stupid question and grabs your jaw gently, looking you in the eyes
“stop being a tease”
you roll your eyes, “you’re so impatient”
nevertheless you comply and connect your lips with his, your hands now slightly massaging his nape
he hums against your mouth, prompting you to keep going
before things can go any further tho, you pull away
he huffs childishly, not liking the way you kept leaving him hanging
“i seriously should get going,” you press one last peck on his lips. “don’t wanna risk getting caught here”
“then just stay the night”
“baby i already did yesterday”
“uhh your point?”
you chuckle, “good try babe”
you attempt to stand up but once again your boyfriend stops you from doing so
you open your mouth to ask him what’s up
but he beats you to it
“actually, i wanted to ask you something” he’s looking away from you and that makes you a little nervous, not having a clue about what he wanted to talk about
you nod, silently telling him to keep going
“could you...do my eyeliner?” a blush creeps onto his neck, his eyes still not meeting yours and you think he looks adorable. before you can answer him, he talks again. “but i mean only if you want to cause’ i know it’s kinda hard so it’s okay if you don’t but i think i’d be really cool and-”
“oh my god eijirou it’s okay!” he finally shuts up and looks at you with big eyes
“it is?”
“hm, i’m more than happy to do it,” he lets out a sigh after hearing your comforting words and you kiss his nose. “besides you’ll look super manly”
if kirishima was already head over heels for you, then now he just wanted to straight up marry you
you got up and started to look around in kirishima’s bathroom drawer since sometimes you left some of your stuff behind just in case
luckily, the eyeliner was there
after you took it, you sat in front of kirishima once again, your legs crossed and you moved closer to him
he kept still and let you get comfortable, looking down at your lips briefly when you got a bit too close
“close your eyes”
and so he did
like i mentioned before, you’re a bit experienced with this since you practice on yourself quite a lot
so it doesn’t take you too much time
the line you drew was a bit thicker than normal but not too much
and instead of doing a straight line, you did it a bit more upwards
“and done!” you say happily while retracting your hand from kirishima’s face
he opens his eyes and offers you a grin
the action is small and meaningless, but it somehow makes you nervous
the makeup really suits him and you can’t help but admire him for a while
by admiring i mean shamelessly checking him out
of course he notices it
and he teases you about it
“does it look good?”
“yeah,” you answer while looking away, trying to hide how flustered you are. “really good”
he hums before placing his hands on your waist and sitting you down on his lap, making you look at him with a surprised expression on your face
one of his hands stays on your waist while the other travels up to hold your face
you let out a heavy breath at his actions, feeling your heart thumping against your chest
his fingers caress your cheek softly and you lean in to his touch, loving the way he was always so gentle with you
without any warning, kirishima smashes his lips against your own
your eyes widen for a moment, not expecting this at all, but you close them when you feel his tongue touching your lower lip
you open your mouth and let him take the lead, a whimper coming out of you when you feel his hand wrap around your neck, pressing slightly
he pulls away with a smirk, both of your chests heaving from the lack of air
“still wanna leave?”
you sigh while moving your head, yet a smile was evident on your face, “i guess i can stay”
“atta girl”

takami keigo (hawks):
another one who canonically wears eyeliner !!
unlike bakugou (who does his eyeliner to cover up the gap between his mask and eyes), keigo does his solemnly because he thinks it looks good on him
wait, let me rephrase that
he knows it looks good on him
it’s part of his morning routine, he does it every time before going to work
so sometimes while you’re both getting ready for the day, you see him doing it
you open the bathroom door sleepily, barely managing to keep your eyes open
you walk over to the sink next to keigo’s and splash water on your face to wake yourself up
beside you, keigo smiles at your antics
he thinks you look the cutest in the mornings, especially when you’re grumpy
feeling his eyes on your figure, you turn around to face him with a raised brow
“why are you looking at me like that?”
“like what?”
“like i have something on my face”
he laughs at your attitude and walks over to place a kiss on your cheek
his lips feel warm against your cheek and it makes you smile
“good morning to you too” his says teasingly
“morning birdy” your tone matches his and he rolls his eyes playfully before pulling away from you to finish doing his eye makeup
you brush your teeth quickly while thinking about what you were gonna have for breakfast, and whether keigo had time to eat with you or not
once you finish, you place your toothbrush on its place and look over to your right
only to be met with the number two hero doing his eyeliner
in one hand he holds a feather of his against his eyelid, as if to help him do a straight line, and with the other he holds the actual makeup product
he has a concentrated look on his face, his brows slightly furrowed
and you look at him with nothing but adoration in your eyes
he looks so effortlessly beautiful
his golden locks are messy, yet perfectly in place and his wings rest by his side
he has his hero costume on, except for his coat
meaning his muscular arms are in full display for you to see
you don’t realize you’re staring until keigo finally finishes the second eye, and puts down the eyeliner
he smirks at you through the mirror and you look away, embarrassment clear on your face
“come on, i made us breakfast”
instead of teasing you, like you thought he would, he simply grabs your hand and leads you to the dining table
your heart swells for the man and you look at the two plates in awe, “you did this?”
“is it so hard to believe?”
you roll your eyes before turning around and kissing him, a soft “thank you” leaving your lips as you pull away
that morning you can’t help but keep stealing glances at your boyfriend’s flawless eyeliner
and later that night, when you’re both cuddled up in each other’s arms  watching a movie, you get the sudden brilliant idea
“hey babe, can i do your eyeliner?”
keigo doesn’t even question you, he just nods before pressing a kiss to your neck and you giggle happily
you stand up to get the eyeliner from your shared bathroom and once you return, you take a seat right in front of him
“do you even know what you’re doing?”
“shut up, i do my makeup too, you know?”
keigo laughs, “i’m just teasing baby”
“you’re mean”
he leans in towards you, pulling you closer by your hips until his lips hover over yours
unconsciously, your eyes look down at his lips, wondering whether he was gonna kiss you or not
but being the little shit he is, keigo doesn’t
“you should hurry up,” his lips are still inches away from yours, but he doesn’t plan on closing the gap any time soon. “i wanna finish the movie”
this fucker
you clear your throat and move away from him, enough so that you can actually do the makeup, but his hands stay on your hips
you try your best to do it the exact same way he does it
a sharp, straight line that covers part of his outer v and also a small portion of his inner corner
giving his eyes a cat like shaped form
to add your own touch, you draw two small hearts on both sides of his cheekbones
“m’kay, you can open your eyes now”
and when he does, your breath literally hitches in your throat
of course it’s not the first time you’ve seen him wearing eyeliner
but your faces are still close and his amber eyes are stuck on yours and you just feel like you’re about to explode
your reaction doesn’t go unnoticed by keigo and he smirks
“i take it you like how it looks?” his tone is flirty and it makes you snap from your trance
you smile at him, softly tracing the two hearts with your fingers, “hm, you look lovely”
“oh really?”
“yeah”
“not as lovely as you, i bet”
and before you can even disagree with him, he presses his lips against yours
you let out a soft moan when he moves you so you’re sitting on his lap and his tongue explores your mouth ever so passionately
keigo takes his sweet time kissing you, taking in every little sound you make and the way your hips slowly move against his thigh
when you pull away, your lips are swollen and you have some spit coating them
which is enough to make keigo go crazy, but before actually doing something, he takes the eyeliner on his hand
you furrow your eyebrows at his action
“what are you doing?”
“well it’s my turn now”
“why do you oh so suddenly want to do my eyeliner?”
he smiles, leaning down to whisper in your ear, “because i wanna see how it’ll look when i make you cry it off”
your eyes widen at his words, but you make no attempt to stop him
keigo kept his promise and he indeed made you cry all of your eyeliner off 😁👍🏼

Once San had heard the giggling from the front of the restaurant, he knew that his shift that day was going to be substantially more exciting.
Dressed in a long-sleeved red button-down with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and straight black slacks that matched with his polished and shiny black shoes, San was the perfect waiter at El Diablo Caliente, a local Mexican restaurant in his town. He sauntered over to the welcoming podium and gave a blindingly charming smile to the four girls that had just arrived.
And the smile did not disappoint. One of the girls burst into giggles while the rest of them managed to keep their blush to a light pink. "A table for four lovely ladies?" He said, and their blush increased as they nodded. "Wonderful." He slipped four restaurant menus under his arm and motioned for them to follow.
The restaurant interior, like San's shirt, was a wonderful ruby red. The lighting that casted over the booths and wooden chairs gave the restaurant a cozy and comfortable vibe. San enjoyed the vibe, it was one of many reasons why he loved working there. The other reasons were more superficial: his black hair matched perfectly with the color palette of the restaurant and he could swoon and charm as many customers as he liked as he worked. These girls were no exception to his magic and not immune to his allure.
"I'm San," he said as the girls sat down at the table he assigned them. "But you ladies may also know me as-"
"Santiago," a girl breathed, finishing his sentence for him. She looked a minute away from passing out onto the floor. San thought a beverage could fix that.
"Santiago," he nodded, and it was true. He had been working at El Diablo Caliente for so long that he had forgotten where the nickname had come from, but it was a nickname that was bestowed on him nonetheless by a few of the regulars. It had caught on, and he was then known as both San and Santiago. He quite enjoyed the name.
"You can call me either," he said, then took off the cap of the pen he was holding with his teeth with a flourish and quirked an eyebrow. "And what refreshments would you ladies like to start off with?" He asked, hovering the pen over his notepad.
The girls whistled off drinks, and when San went away they began to giggle. San smiled knowingly as he walked away from them and checked in on other tables that he waited for. His charm was something he was able to exude easily while at work, and the age of the customer didn't matter. San charmed older couples with his perfect manners and sweet smiles the same as he did with sugary compliments and alluring looks for younger crowds.
San finished up a humorous conversation with an older woman and her husband before strolling back to the girls with their drinks in hand. Once he was in sight, they sat up straighter and put on smiles. He returned them. He wondered if his presence or the food that would soon come would make them happier.
"Ladies, are we ready to order?" He asked as he dished out their beverages. "And let me know if there's anything I can help with regarding the menu."
"How hot is the habanero salsa?" One of the girls asked, looking up at him with curiosity and a little bit more.
San whistled and twirled his pen in his hands. "One of our hottest," he said, pursing his lips. "It's good, though. Quite delicious. Do you think you could take it?"
"I think I could," she said, staring through his eyes with a grand smile.
"As you wish," San murmured and scribbled it down with the rest of her order.
He finished taking the orders of the rest of the girls, all of whom had many questions to ask San about the menu. He theorized they just wanted to talk to him. He saw their faces fall in the corner of his eye when he walked away to place their orders.
"Santiago!" A familiar voice called out to him, and San turned to it with an enormous dimpled grin.
"María!" He returned and gave the older woman that was approaching him an enormous and warm hug.
María, or Tía María to San, was a long-time customer to El Diablo Caliente and an even longer friend to San. But despite their age and cultural differences, they found great joy and solstice in spending time together.
"¿Cómo estás, mijo?" María asked with a soft smile after they had broken apart. "Is the restaurant treating you well?"
It was a question that Tía María asked almost every time she saw San at the restaurant. San returned the smile and nodded. "Por supuesto, Tía María." He led her to her favorite spot in the restaurant, a window seat where the sun hit the vase of the flowers on the table and refracted a perfect rainbow onto it. San immediately pulled the chair back for Tía María to sit in, which caught the attention of the group of girls he was serving. He could hear them swooning from halfway across the restaurant.
"Those girls certainly love you," Tía Maria murmured as she settled herself in the seat and eyed the girls.
San shook his head with a smile. "They all love me, you know that. Everyone that walks into this restaurant does."
"Well, because you're charming," Tía María complimented. "Y," she continued, "guapísimo. You're a rare treat for them to be both kind and good-looking."
San felt a small blush creep up on his cheeks, something that only a few people could do to him. "Thank you," he murmured, then gave her his signature smile that he reserved for older crowds. "The usual, I assume," he said, tucking his pen behind his ear. There was no use for it when he knew Tía María's order better than his own. She nodded with a hint of a smile, and after a few more minutes of conversing, San went back to satisfy other customers and their orders.
It was finally time to deliver the group of girls' food when the cook signaled to him that the food was ready and neatly arranged on his serving tray.
"I suppose I'm not the only thing that's sizzling hot, eh?" He joked as he approached their table with the food, one of the items, a fajita, literally smoking.
"Oh, truly," the one that ordered the habanero sauce said, trying to stifle a smile. He gave her a captivating stare as he slid her food in front of her.
"Enjoy your meal, ladies," he said, adjusting his red collar as he said it. As he walked away from the girls and turned his attention to other customers, he watched the girl that had ordered the habanero sauce out of the corner of his eye. Focused on the food and not him for once, she spread it generously over one of her tacos. San had to bite his lip to keep from saying anything. He watched her, in slight amusement, as she took an enormous bite of the taco stuffed with the spicy salsa from hell.
The expectation San had for her reaction was fulfilled. Her eyes got incrementally bigger as the spice danced on her tongue, and her friends giggled as she began fanning her mouth and taking a large sip of her water beside her. "Perhaps it was too hot for you, after all," San murmured to himself with a smirk. "That's why we're called El Diablo Caliente."
And that day was not unusual of how San's waiter shifts usually went. While sometimes busy, San found happiness and pride at his job.
But that reality had all been turned upside-down when Ana's Taqueria surfaced.
Ana's Taqueria had snatched El Diablo Caliente's customers with a flourish of its hand even though it was only a few days old. With its lavish green walls and modern interior decorating, El Diablo Caliente customers flocked there like a moth to a flame. San's busy days as a waiter dropped dramatically, which meant that the lavish tips he had once received downsized dramatically. The mood of the restaurant dropped with the amount of customers as well, and San was plagued with the wistful thought that things would go back to normal. But it had been almost a month, and El Diablo Caliente's best days seemed to be behind him. All of the employees saw this. Tía María saw this. But most importantly, San's manager saw this.
"San," his manager began, sitting across from San in one of the restaurant'c chairs. She had called him to talk during an hour that wasn't busy - which was turning into most hours at El Diablo Caliente. Her hair being pulled back into a bun only accentuated the stress and tightness on her face as she spoke. "You obviously have seen and felt the effect of Ana's Taqueria. I've been thinking, and we have to make a few changes as to how we market ourselves if we want to gain back some of our customers." She sighed and shook her head.
"The restaurant owner, Ana, runs a tight ship. But it's effective, obviously. Their waiters are all just like you, bursting with charisma and passion. The place is cleaner than a biologist's laboratory. Their food, of course, is good. I tried it a few days ago." San's manager rubbed a tired hand over her face. "But," she said, raising her eyebrows, "it's not as good as ours. It's not as authentic. We still have a chance at coming back."
"That's all very hopeful," San said, "but why are you telling me this? Alone?"
"I'm telling you this," his manager smiled, "because you are our customer favorite. If anyone knows how to keep customers, it's you. Would you look at a few ideas I have for improving business?" She pushed a piece of paper in front of him.
San scanned the paper. His manager had certainly thought out of the box - from a an inflatable dancing balloon parked out in the front to weekly mariachi bands, San was thoroughly impressed. But the mariachis were expensive, and the balloon could only satisfy so many children. San read through the rest of the options and stopped at a dance team.
"A dance team?" He pondered, looking back up at her.
His manager smiled. "Just dancers from the town. We could ask the high school's dance team to perform every now and then."
"And the college students, since it's summer and they're home," San felt the need to note, being a college student himself.
His manager nodded. "Precisely." She then looked at him closer, like she wanted him to say something. San had a feeling she knew what she wanted him to say.
"Yes, I danced competitively in high school," San said after a minute. And though he was in college and wasn't a dance major, San was a part of a non-competitive dance team that did flash mobs in festivals and parades in the town.
His manager leaned closer to him. San leaned away from her, giving a nervous smile.
"You could really bring a lot of business if you danced, Santiago," his manager grinned. "I'm not trying to force you. But I've seen how you light up when you work with the customers. I've seen how customers light up with you. And if it doesn't work out, we'll come up with something else. But it's worth a shot, isn't it?"
San pondered his options. Accepting this would mean being around the restaurant a lot more. And although it was true he enjoyed working there, he found equal satisfaction in relaxing by himself at his home or walking around the town in the evening. It would also mean recruiting other members of his dance team. A few of them did live nearby, but it would still be work nonetheless to get them to cooperate.
But San thought of Tía María and the giggly girls he had served only a week before Ana's Taqueria had opened. He thought about the older couples that couldn't stop fishing bills out of their pockets for San after one of his usual waiter performances. This restaurant wasn't just a restaurant. It was important to both him, the other employees, and the customers that frequented there, even if they had found a new love as of late. San could have refused, but Santiago had an obligation to his place of work.
"Then let's do it," San said, and the manager's face erupted with joy.
"Thank you," she sobbed, and San smiled with the obliviousness of a person that had no idea what they had got themselves into.
Within a few days, San had contacted three dance college friends that lived close by to set up a few performances. All three of them were a part of the dance team at his college and seemed eager to get out of the house to do something fun. Yunho, San's friendly and sweet as sunshine friend from college, accepted with no problem. Mingi, another college friend, was just happy to not be cooped up in his house anymore. Wooyoung, his final dance friend from college, was eager to accept on the term that San provided them with food from the restaurant during their practices.
So when he met up with them outside the restaurant for their first practice, he had a bag of takeout containers filled with fajitas, tacos, and enchiladas. Wooyoung scurried up to San when he was in view and took the bag from his hands. "Thank you," he said cheerfully.
"Nice to see you too," San said and rolled his eyes good-naturedly. But Wooyoung simply put the bag of food on the ground and bounced back up with the energy of a newborn kangaroo. "Hello, Yunho, Mingi."
Both of them waved back, Mingi with his eyes wide and an even wider smile, and Yunho, who laughed as he waved. "So, what's on the agenda?" He asked while Wooyoung eyed the bag of food he had placed on the floor. Although San had briefed them all with the basics, none of them knew exactly what they were doing.
"This is dance for a Mexican restaurant," Wooyoung said logically. "We could salsa dance with each other." Mingi, who was standing next to him, took a few steps away from him.
"No," San laughed, and then pulled out his phone from his back pocket. "I was thinking of something a bit more... exciting." The three of them had their eyes on him while San scrolled through a playlist he had created a few hours earlier. "We can do a few songs that we already know from dance team, but like Wooyoung said, this is a Mexican restaurant. So I think it's only fair that we dance to some Latin artists." He clicked the song, and the sound of acoustic guitars filled the air.
Mingi began to nod his head and tap his foot. Wooyoung had gotten himself into the tacos and was eating one while swaying to the music.
"Oh, this is groovy," Yunho smiled. "What's the song?"
"This is La Camisa Negra by Juanes," San said with such a perfect pronunciation that the three of them whistled in awe.
"Ah, so this is why you're the hot and popular waiter," Wooyoung grinned and wiggled his eyebrows. "You really know how to get them-"
San turned up the volume of the music to drown out Wooyoung. "So I was thinking we could dance to this song in black shirts. And perhaps we could have roses in our mouths to make it a little sexier."
"Business is going to boom," Mingi surveyed, and Yunho nodded in agreement.
"And a few more songs by Juanes and other artists as well. We can definitely don't have to do all of them, but we can survey them tonight and think of some light choreography. These will just be fun interludes for our practiced dances."
He must have looked optimistic, because the three of them smiled back. Mingi now had an enchilada on a plate. "Excelente," he said and raised his fork with a smile as if he was toasting them. "Let's do it."
Their dancing experience was an asset for the choreography. It didn't take long to come up with a small dance routine, and before San knew it, the sun was setting and all of the food was eaten.
"Thanks for making this easy," San said gratefully as the other three of them packed up their things. "And fun."
"No problem," Yunho smiled. "It will be a lot of fun. Especially when we pick up Wooyoung and shove a rose into his mouth."
"I will be incredibly sexy," Wooyoung chimed in, completely serious.
"And hopefully that will be promising enough for customers to come," San laughed, but he couldn't ignore the knot that was in his stomach. Despite their preparation and his confidence for himself and his teammates, he couldn't help but worry that they weren't doing enough. What if the restaurant had to close?
"I'm sure people will come," Mingi reassured. "And if they don't, then we can burn down the other restaurant."
"I don't think we'll need to do that," San laughed, but Wooyoung seemed more intrigued in this idea than San would have liked him to be. Even if business only increased by a little, San was certain that the business would at least be able to stay afloat for a few more months.
So two weeks later on the small outdoor stage of El Diablo Caliente, endless amounts of hungry audience members sat in front of the four of them. Dressed in black shirts that would come in handy for La Camisa Negra later, hair slicked back to give a more flattering and attractive look to the audience, and hidden roses in the corner of the stage, they were ready to completely rock the stage with their performance.
In the back of the audience stood San's beaming manager. San returned a smile to her, which caused a large group of girls to swoon.
"His smile simply makes me melt," one of them said, and Wooyoung snorted beside him.
"Let's not keep them waiting," Wooyoung then whispered to San with his eyebrows raised. "We've got an audience to entertain."
And entertain, they did. The customers of El Diablo Caliente were satisfied by the food that was brought to them and the incredible performance that the four of them displayed for their viewing. The crowd, mostly younger people, erupted when the roses appeared on stage and San felt the spiritual need to wink to them. The amount of tips and phone numbers that the four of them received was insurmountable. The show could confidently be marked as a success.
San was beaming at the end of their performance. Because even if this didn't change their business, they had still raked in a hefty amount of money from this night. Subsequent nights would only be bigger.
But across the street, Ana's Taqueria was taking notes. Sitting at a comfortable distance from El Diablo Caliente was Ana herself. She was only a few years older than San, but she had the drive and determination of someone that had 40 years of entrepreneurship under her belt. A mischievous smile danced on her lips as she pressed her phone against her ear and let it ring. The recipient picked up after a few rings.
"I'm going to need a favor from you," Ana said softly as she watched San saunter off of the stage and into the crowd of customers with a rose in his mouth and a smile on his face. The smirk struggling to appear on her face broke through onto her features. "You know how to dance, right?"
If the drive home from the dance concert was exhilarating, the drive into work the next day was unparalleled. San walked into El Diablo Caliente feeling like he had just won the lottery.
"You were spectacular," San's manager said as greeting. He hadn't seen this big of a smile on her face in weeks. "The other three were also amazing. But San, you were truly possessed with some kind of dance God." She pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to him. "These are the earnings from last night."
San's mind bobbled at the number. It was bigger than what they had received in a week ever since Ana's Taqueria opened. "That's phenomenal," he said breathlessly.
"You're phenomenal," the manager countered. "San, you saved the restaurant."
Needless to say, it was one of San's best days as a waiter. Customers that had fallen in love with his performance appeared today to have more of their delicious food and see the handsome waiter and dancer.
"Do you still have the rose?" A young man asked with stars in his eyes around midday. San was more than happy to oblige - when he brought the food over to him, a rose hung in his mouth. He was then subsequently tipped almost half of the meal price.
But San's good day, no matter how good it was, didn't last forever. Walking out of the restaurant to go home, San noticed a new sign on Ana's Taqueria's wall. His stomach dropped to his feet.
The sign advertised a dance night with "four phenomenal men" in two weeks from today. San read through the sign again and again. Each time, it sounded more and more like the exact show that he and his friends had put on the night before. He whipped out his phone and took a picture of the sign and sent it to his manager, his head swimming with thoughts and worries.
They couldn't do that, not when El Diablo Caliente had just hosted a dance night. San strapped on his seatbelt and started his car, but sat in the parking lot, staring at the rival restaurant. There wasn't much he could do. They hadn't trademarked or claimed dancing as their own original thought - Ana's Taqueria could do whatever they wanted to do. But that still left the knot in San's stomach unresolved, and he was filled with a sudden burst of anger and resentment for the restaurant.
San turned off his car and hopped out. He made his way across the street and walked into Ana's Taqueria.
"I'd like to speak with the manager," San said as greeting when he threw open the door. He must have looked odd still dressed in his work uniform. The restaurant wasn't too busy, but a good amount of customers still stared at him as he strode past the welcome podium and headed towards the cashier.
"Is Ana here?" He asked as evenly as he could to the young girl that was seated at the cashier with wide eyes.
"She is," the cashier said slowly to him, her eyes flickering around the store. San felt bad for a minute - perhaps he was being too harsh to a poor girl that had no decision in the dance night - but then someone that only could have been Ana appeared behind the counter, and the rage settled comfortably back into his chest.
She couldn't have been much older than him. Ana had curly blonde hair that was pulled back into a carefree low bun on the nape of her neck and had piercing eyes. She grinned with an alluring smile when she saw him and San's anger flared up.
"Hello," he said, giving her a small nod. "I'm San. A waiter from El Diablo Caliente."
"Your performance last night was truly something," Ana said softly and gave him a sweet smile. San wanted to punch her in the face. "I didn't attend, but I could see you and your friends performing from over here. You're all very talented."
"Thank you," San managed to say. "I noticed you're also having a dance night."
Ana's smile widened. "I do hope you don't mind," she said. "We're friends, are we not?"
San's mouth twitched. "Not just because we both work at Mexican restaurants that are close by," San said, trying to prevent any sort of emotion from appearing on his face.
Ana frowned. "Well, that's not very sportsmanlike, is it?" She said, resting her elbows on the counter. "We're simply hiring dancers as your restaurant did. There's nothing stopping me from doing this. It's simply a good idea."
Not when you're tearing our business to the ground, San wanted to say. Not when you're stealing and profiting off of our idea just because we thought of something better than you did.
"It is a good idea," San said instead. "But we thought of it first. It's abundantly clear that you copied us rather than simply taking inspiration. Four dancers? You at least have been subtle."
Ana's eyes shimmered with something that made San's stomach flip. "Well, I've already hired the dancers," she shrugged. "They're professional, actually. We paid good money for them."
San thought about how El Diablo Caliente's dancers were just college students and his blood boiled. "We're both Mexican restaurants, yes?" He started, not sure of where he was going with this. His emotions were driving this talk. Ana watched him in amusement like this was some mildly entertaining comedy show.
"Then let's have a dance competition," San offered. "If we're as good as you said we were, and your dancers are professional, it should be fun. Just some friendly competition."
Ana's eyes were shining now. "Sounds like a wonderful idea. At our restaurant? Our stage is much bigger than yours."
"Sure," San said evenly. "And also on the night that your poster says on your wall. Think of it as a community event."
They both knew that this competition wasn't just against the dancers - it was a competition against the Mexican restaurants. Ana had made this competition personal by twisting El Diablo Caliente's unique ideas into her own. San was ready to run her into the ground.
"I'll have the sign changed by tomorrow morning," Ana said idly. "It was truly a pleasure meeting you, San. Train hard. You'll need it." He could swear that he saw fire flare up in her eyes. She gave a goodbye wave, then disappeared into the back of the restaurant, her curly hair bouncing against her neck as she trailed away.
When San unlocked his phone in his car only minutes later, his phone was blown up by texts from his manager.
Copiers! She had texted. The nerve. What the hell?
San quickly texted the deal he had made with Ana to his manager, who responded with excitement. You four will destroy them, she said, and San could only hope she was right. In actuality, he had no idea how he was going to pull this off. But luckily, he wasn't alone.
"They sound awful," Yunho said during their second practice. Now that it had rolled into July, the sun beat down on them harder than ever. All four of them were sporting muscle t-shirts to feel more comfortable, but it was still sweltering.
"Right?" San could only agree. "They saw how well we did and decided to copy our idea."
"Do you have any idea who the other four will be?" Mingi asked, and then took a long drink of water. Wooyoung was crouched next to him, listening intently.
San shook his head. "I just know that they're professionals," he sighed. "Ana contacted my manager and said that there will be judges. I don't know exactly what will happen if we win or lose."
"It sounds like we just need to please the crowd, though," Wooyoung pointed out. "If it's just a dance-off, there's nothing that's directly on the line for the restaurants themselves. If I enjoy a performance enough, I won't care what the judges say."
"But we still should win," San said. "If we want to knock down Ana a few pegs." San crouched down and turned on his phone. The familiar sound of Juanes blasted through the speakers, and the rest of them stood up straighter.
"Let's kick ass, shall we?" San said while stretching his arms, and the others nodded with vigor.
The days flew by. Between waiting tables and practicing with Wooyoung, Mingi, and Yunho for the competition, San was booked. More than once he had collapsed onto his bed after he got home from his shift and fell asleep immediately. When he was awake, he spent most of his idle time worrying about the dance battle.
He was confident in their group. He admired and respected the other three tremendously and felt pride in his own abilities. But there was still that fear and that unknown element of the professional dancers. How good would they be? San imagined them wiping the floor with his team and his stomach did a backflip. They had to win. He had to win.
The days ticked down to the competition, and soon the four of them were entering Ana's Taqueria on the night of the competition. They wore clothes similar to they had in their first performance, but instead had matching shiny red vests. "They match with the roses really well," Mingi had said with his rose in between his teeth.
Once they were inside, Yunho scouted the restaurant and spotted Ana's professional group of dancers. He nudged San and nodded his head towards them.
The first aspect of them that San noticed about them was how young they were. The group seemed the same age as San's group, perhaps even younger than them. On the back of all of their black shirts in shiny lettering was Stray Dancers.
"They're not professional," Yunho hissed. "They're just another college group. I know them. Did Ana just tell us they're professional dancers to scare us?"
"Felix!" Wooyoung cried, oblivious to their nervous chatter, and clapped the back of one of the rival dancers. San, Yunho, and Mingi tensed.
"He knows one of them?" San asked to no one in particular.
"Wooyoung knows everyone, it seems," Mingi said as Wooyoung began to laugh with Felix and the other three dancers as if they were best friends.
"I guess it will be good for us if the tension isn't there," Yunho said, and they all nodded. "It's more of a friendly competition that way. We just need to beat them for Ana."
San let Wooyoung fraternize with the enemy for a while longer before he walked up to him and pulled on his shirt. "Woo, let's get ready," he said cheerfully, though his insides were starting to swim.
"San!" Wooyoung cried. "Meet the Stray Dancers. I've worked with them before." San opened his mouth to stop him, but Wooyoung had already started his extroverted spiel. "This is Felix, this is Chan, this is Hyunjin, and this is Minho," he said, pointing to each one of them, who waved kindly to San in return. San didn't love the idea that Wooyoung was friends with their opponents, but it helped ease the anxiety in his stomach.
"Hi," he said to each of them and nodded. "Nice to meet you guys," he said quickly, "but Wooyoung, we have to go." Without waiting for a reply or protest, San snagged Wooyoung and dragged him away from the Stray Dancers before he could strike up more conversation.
"I was having a nice time," Wooyoung whined when they were a good distance away and back with Yunho and Mingi.
"You can talk to them after the competition," Mingi said wisely, and San was relieved that someone felt similar to him. "The show starts soon anyway. We should stretch now, even if we're not the first ones on stage."
That was at least one good aspect of it all - San could at least gauge how good the Stray Dancers were before they took the stage. "Right, let's find a place," Yunho agreed, glancing around the restaurant to find a place to stretch. San was about to point out a room that seemed to be unoccupied when he saw Tía María in the crowd.
"Go on without me, I'll be there in a minute," San said, and rushed over to her. "María," he said, the happiness in his voice not unnoticed. "I'm so glad you're here. Thank you for coming here to support me."
"Make sure to wipe them to the floor, Santiago," Tía María said as greeting, and San was surprised at how upfront she was. She must have noticed the shock to cross his face, so she continued to speak. "I dislike Ana. I just want to see that smile gone from her face." She nodded over to the other side of the restaurant, and Ana was there. She was casually chatting with a customer, but San felt the resentment bubble in his stomach regardless.
"We will, Tía," San said, even if he didn't quite believe it himself.
Tía María smiled. "It's just like being a waiter, Santiago. You are here to cater to the public. You've already proven yourself to be wonderful to people - full of expression and charms. But you also are humble and kind. This competition is no different. Show them Santiago and they will come back to El Diablo Caliente in no time." She stood up and wrapped her arms around him in a hug.
"Estarás asombrando, mijo," she said, and San's heart filled up with love. He was ready if Tía María believed he was ready.
Shortly after his warmup with the other three dancers, they situated themselves at a table to watch the Stray Dancers perform. While Ana walked up on stage and introduced the Stray Dancers, San glanced around and found the judges near the front of the stage. They didn't seem particularly uptight or fancy - all three of them wore casual clothing. It was odd how laid back Ana had staged this. Did she really think this competition would be easy to win?
And then the Stray Dancers began to perform. Unbeknownst to San before, their black Stray Dancers tshirts had little pins of the Mexico flag above their heart, and they danced with castanets that made pleasant clicking noises. San was impressed with their ingenuity. The clicks frequently matched up with their footwork and gave the illusion that they were tap dancing. Not only that, all four of them were equally mesmerizing and pleasing to watch.
Minho was frequently in the center and made most of the crowd members swoon. Hyunjin did a move with his legs that caused someone to whistle during their performance. Chan had wondrous arms that were mesmerizing to look at each time he raised them and clicked his castanets. Felix was more fluid than a river and made his intricate dance moves look easy. But as good as they were, San felt pride in himself and his teammates. He thought they could win.
The crowd burst into applause once they were finished. "It's time," Yunho whispered and stood up, the rest of them following suit. Wooyoung sauntered up to the stage first and high-fived all four of the Stray Dancers as they descended from the stage. San risked a glance at Ana and found her eyes already on him. She had a sinister sort of smile that, to a random onlooker, looked like she was amused. He looked away and tried to shake her steel eyes from his vision.
Ana, like she did with her own group of dancers, introduced San's group to the audience. "And San Choi," she finished, and the crowd whooped and cheered as he gave a bow and smile to the crowd. As Ana walked off of the stage, she glanced at San. However, this time, he was looking at her already. San raised his eyebrows and smiled a devious smile. Then, Juanes began to play, and San's body was taken over by the dancing demon that he had cultivated dearly in their weeks of practice.
The performance was exhilarating. It was a mass catharsis of the tension and stress San had built up from this competition, and the audience only saw it as marvelous stage presence. He took the time to do certain moves with more fluidity and sensuality. The rose was in and out of his mouth. He managed to fit in multiple winks, smirks, and run his hands through his gelled and dark hair. Every movement from the first chord of the song to the last made the entire culture of Mexico smile down on him. He knew this because when the music ended and the clapping started, Tía María's eyes were shining with a fondness and pride that could only come straight from the heart.
"San, you were insane on stage," Yunho commented when they walked off of the stage amidst the cheers and clapping. "What possessed you?"
"Spite," San said. He had found Ana's eyes once again. She seemed calm, as though San had not just delivered a show-stopping performance in a tiny Mexican restaurant. He gave her a wink and did not give any more attention to her. The judges may have had the final say in the competition, but San knew that customers would flock back to El Diablo Caliente regardless of the outcome. Their cheers were more like roars and were infinitely louder than the ones that the Stray Dancers had received.
"That was sick," Chan said to San as he passed them by. The rest of them gave smiles.
"Thank you, you four were also amazing," San said idly, thinking about the results. They reached their table and sat down.
"I think we won," Wooyoung whispered to them immediately after they were situated.
"No doubt," Mingi agreed.
"I hope," San said to them. He watched the judges shuffle around in their seats and finish taking notes. Then, one of them stood up and began to walk towards the microphone. San's stomach became a gymnast.
"Here we go," he whispered, his heart rate picking up. "Hey, wait a minute," he said, turning to Mingi. Mingi was the one that had told the judges their team name, like how Ana's group was called the Stray Dancers. "What exactly did you name us?"
Mingi smiled at him.
"Both performances were spectacular," the judge said into the microphone, surprisingly jovial. The Stray Dancers and San's group snapped their heads to the stage to listen. "But we think this group did an exceptional job of pumping up the crowd while also keeping the integrity of Mexican music, and therefore deserves the win. Congratulations to Santiago and his Rosy Men, you're our winners."
"Santiago and what?" San gaped at Mingi while the restaurant exploded into cheers. "Mingi, you-"
"We won," he said, clapping him on the back. "Go and celebrate. Don't think too much about it." He was smiling so wide. San sighed and matched his smile. They had won.
Tía María was glowing as she approached their table. She promptly went over to San and kissed his cheek before giving him the biggest hug he had ever felt from her. "Maravilloso," she whispered while she rubbed his back. San felt tears touch his eyelids and he hugged her tighter. They had done it, and had made one of San's most beloved people happy.
After Tía María left San's embrace, Ana approached them with a stiffness. "Congratulations," she said, giving them a smile. But San had seen Ana smile before, and this was not her usual snarky smile. This was a fake smile, a smile that had been punched with the loss of her dance team. San relished in her discomfort.
"Thank you," San said, giving her a smile that was genuine and a little bit more. "Maybe next time, don't try to copy us at our own game." He smiled as her face contorted with anger and frustration. She stormed off away from them, and the four of them high-fived each other.
The next day. business didn't just boom, it exploded. San walked into El Diablo Caliente the next day and it was like Ana's Taqueria had never opened. The restaurant was packed and the other servers were happy to see him. The customers were especially happy to see him. The girls that he had served months ago waved at him. "You were so cool on stage!" One said as he passed by, and San took the opportunity to give her a wink.
"I know."
He left their gasping expressions for the back of the restaurant where he clocked in and got ready to work. As he rolled up his sleeves, he couldn't help but look at how much more alive El Diablo Caliente was now. Although the store hadn't had a paint job recently, the red walls glowed with newness. People in the restaurant smiled extra widely as they feasted on their meal.
But that was not what tickled San the most about his restaurant. The icing on the cake was the amount of cars in the parking lot. Less than half of the amount of cars that they had were in the lot of Ana's Taqueria. Everything, finally, had fallen back into a blissful harmony, and San was elated to be a part of the melody of the restaurant once again. San let his charming façade wash over him like a waterfall and felt the tingling warmth of a new day in the restaurant he appreciably called home.

Oh My Gosh!!!! I was just thinking about Party Crasher and man I hate how they had Ladybug get captured for the men to save! It's a continuous thing you see in media: strong heroic woman gets put in peril so that the men can shine. I didn't even realize it until you said it! I get that it was probably meant to be a "role reversal" of Chat always getting kidnapped or brainwashed for Ladybug to save, but the fact that this is the "guys' episode" it read like "well damn, we can't have the guys be strong if a girl is in the way; let's have the girl get captured so the boys can prove their worth by rescuing her!".
At least in Sandboy, Ladybug was still competent and came up with the plans, but this?! It makes me sick, and it's all too easy to fall into these traps; even Kim Possible did it! In my magical girl story, the heroine does get put in a magical coma and require someone to bail her out, but it's her female friends AND her boyfriend who save her, so it's not just a girl being weakened so a boy can be powerful, especially since said boy actually does a minority of the work required to save her; the focus is on the female characters so it's her girl friends who do most of it. I still ended up scrapping that side plot anyway, and do you know why? Because regardless of who saved her, I still didn't want my female protagonist to be put in distress at all due to the unfortunate implications! Needing help in a fight? Sure. But outright being captured or kidnapped? Nah fam.
I was honestly thinking about that when the first episode came out. Like, they could’ve just had Marinette NOT SHOW UP in time so the guys take care of things, which at least gives more of a message that Paris wouldn’t go to hell just because Ladybug is a little late or something.
And yeah, the “boys squad episode so gotta toss the girl out” is... sigh.

I think the writers were trying to show Chat angsting to show his regret instead of an actual apology. Still doesn't explain why Aeon didn't bring up her death afterwards. Did Olympia delete that from her memory banks?
I guess? :|
I don’t know why Chat can’t just apologize without fishing or trying to earn sympathy. Like JUST SAY YOU’RE SORRY, DAMMIT.

If you haven't read Maribat, then you won't regret it. I am not in the DC universe but I started reading it and WOW. Literally every single time Marinette is a badass queen and gets her complete revenge and is actually happy! Even if you absolutely love Lukanette (which I have nothing against) you should totally try it.
Appreciate the comment, but I find it hard to ship other Marinette ships outside of Lukanette. Ivanette is a very loose exception and it’s not like I ship it hard or anything.

Despite not being a Lukanette shipper I love you. Why? Because you amazing, so right in literally everything and I love you <33

The NY Special made it so that Max is literally the only Black/Brown kid that doesn’t exist to make Love Square happen and that just makes me hate it even more.
I wish you didn’t make me have this realization because I hate it.
At least Delmar existed in the New York special???? I guess???? I dunno, I’m trying here, I don’t recall him doing anything love square centric.

I honestly don't mind Alix's outfit as Bunnix! I feel like it fits her, plus she's an adult so its not much of a problem, not saying it can't be improved however. I DO have issues with the designs for the underage girls outfits however....those are very sus
Yeah, the problem I take with Bunnyx’s is that it’s a bodysuit. If there was just more definition, like having actual boots, I wouldn’t complain as much.

I actually just really like the idea of the new bee being a genuinely nice person who becomes friends with Marinette. Not exactly close friends (since I like the idea of friendly working relationships without actual personal stakes in them). I also enjoy the idea of the new bee having some small animosity for Chat Noir- just because their personalities aren't the greatest mix. I also think that it would make sense for the miraculous of subjection to be at odds with the miraculous of destruction
Full agreement but we know how much the writers are resistant to have characters go against Chat.

Not gonna lie the scene where the girl squad gets akumatized almost makes it seem like they got akumatized on purpose, similar to Manon in Puppeteer 2(although she was a little kid who was probably just imagining she could enact revenge). And why can't they have a uniformed design, like they're a team but wear different colors, similar to the Sailor Senshi(like, Alya's the leader and wears orange, Rose wears pink, Alix wears green, Juleka wears purple, and Mylene wears yellow). It's so boring.
Mood.
Not to mention that WE ARE SO TIRED OF THEM GETTING AKUMATIZED INTO THE SAME AKUMA.
AT LEAST PALETTE SWAP THEM.

Relating to the Didn't Need Burrows and Treatment of Marinette bingo cards, have you considered making one for whenever the show fails at girl power? It could say things like "sexualized frames of teenage girls" "boy tells girl what to do" "girls don't get to keep Miraculouses", and "girls are forced to apologize whenever a situation goes wrong". And in the center, it could say "Don't show this to your daughter!"! Lol! What do you think?
lol I feel like I have enough cards, otherwise I would.

I saw another post that talked about Miraculous New York, and they theorized that it was rewritten to focus more on Marinette and Adrien in order to get viewers invested in the Love Square again after more people started to lose faith in the ship. Do you think that's a possibility?
I think so. The whole special comes off as trying to reassure love square shippers because of how hard it goes for him. I cut out Marinette’s crushing and it cuts like 18% from the episode, meaning it’s even worse than Season 3 (15%).

Maybe the point of the [break-up episodes] is meant to discourage people from shipping Lukanette and Adrigami too?
Spoiler alert: didn’t work.

Are we not gonna talk about how in one ask, somebody legit said "(long dreamy sigh) Viperion"? Like same.
RIGHT????
Same.

Ml fandom: I hate how Ladybug keeps secrets from Chat Noir! He sacrifices himself for her all the time and she never appreciates him for it! He has EVERY right to get mad at her!!
ML Fandom when Chat Noir does the same thing in the special: ....Wow Ladybug was way to harsh on Chat Noir!! She doesn’t appreciate him at all!! Shes so mean to him!
:|
i hate it

Idk if it's just me, but a majority of the fandom is split in two; it's never one or the other "MARINETTE SUCKS AND IS A HORRIBLE PERSON GUARDIAN MARY SUE WHO SEXUALLY HARRASSES" or "ADRIEN SUCKS HE WAS NEVER ON MARINETTES SIDE" but im personally on the latter, but not to that extreme. i hate videos bashing marinette and then never acknowledge adriens faults
Yeah, the fandom gets more divided as time goes on because of the writers trying to increase the drama/tension.

I am PERSONALLY offended they gave Luka the snake miraculous. Snakes have such a negative connotation. A lot of people insult Lila by calling her a SNAKE. And now those ML writers DARE insult the best character in ML?! HOW DARE THEY!?????
I adore Viperion but I agree that I first heard he was getting snake and was like, “BUT MY BOI???”
It gets awkward too because other animals like the pig have negative connotations, like how Daizzi basically means “idiot/stupid” and they’re giving it to the freaking blond character, really???

I think that Ivanette would be even better if Marinette was plus-sized character.
I see why you’d think that. I just disagree because then it turns the ship into “let’s pair the heavyset characters together because they heavyset.”

On the topic of romance failures and general series salt, my main issue right now is how the series puts so much focus on romantic relationships while failing to consider other levels of relationship or what they affect.
On the L² front I can completely buy Marinette being in love with Adrien. Most of the time she genuinely wants him to be happy and is ready to take a step back for him, however much it hurts. But in terms of romantic love? It. Is. A. Crush! But if we step back from the formula, what is there left between them? Their civilian relationship is held together by a “comedy” of errors and without that there is surprisingly little left. Well, besides two “best friends” desperately trying to make it happen because somehow they lost their individual characters and instead of being friends became matchmakers?
I too like Luka and Marinette together. Their relationship is pretty nice to see and all. But sometimes it feels like it happens in a dimension of its own, like the writers want to make the endgame clear in that the “sideships” can be easily cut out of the big “how they got together”-recaps. I especially miss reactions from and interactions with Juleka. She is Luka’s sister, Marinette’s friend, and IIRC someone aware of if not even a bit player in the great shipping game. She is in a prime position to step up and bring progress on all fronts: She can talk with Luka. She can either give Marinette helpful pointers or go “All in or nothing”, i.e. trying to make Marinette get her Adrien-feelings in order as she does not want her brother to get less than Marinette’s full heart. Similarly, she can counteract “friendly acts” and stop humiliating situations from escalating, or she herself can escalate them in the “All or Nothing”-scenario. Yet she remains basically a background character who gets little attention from the camera and almost no “non-focus identity”
As for Kagami, I may be too biased. *Any* positive Kagami/Marinette relationship is to me what Lukanette is to you. So naturally I have lots of opinions when it comes to her role ;) But can I just say that Adrien/Kagami is the weirdest ship for me? They have a few cute scenes and I think if they’d spend a lot more time together, they’d do each other good but I don’t know how they work. “No Hesitation” Kagami would lob Adrien’s head straight off with all his…everything. If we are meant to take Adrien’s love for LB seriously (and I guess we have to because how in the name of sanity is any form of the stated endgame gonna work otherwise???), how does Kagami fit into that picture as a girl who can hardly express emotions while Adrien is the definition of a  guy who can not stop flirting or goes for all kinds of romantic gestures? Sometimes it feels more like a “social fit” and “Mommy/Daddy approves” kind of deal which is quite the shame! Normally I like these kind of relationships in fictions but they need a solid underlining or good development. One they haven’t and one the series has not been giving to anyone so far.
Yeah, the whole thing with the love square versus side ships ends up feeling extremely forced. Keeping Luka away and forcing Adrien into Lukanette episode are the biggest giveaways, basically a big fat sign that says, “We know Marinette would forget that Adrien exists if she hung around Luka for more than five minutes.”
AND YEAH, KAGAMI WOULDN’T PUT UP WITH ADRIEN’S GARBAGE. I liked Adrimi but it’s definitely more flawed than Lukanette.

Watched your opinion on the New York special and I agree with you. It was mediocre at best. It could have been something nice, like if they added Kagami and Luka, for example, so that we can get a bit of development from the new couples on season 4, so that it doesn’t feel rushed when they start dating on season 4. It could also be a good opportunity to see the other temporary heroes one last time, since Marinette technically has the miracle box.
They could have had an epic fight with the American Superheroes, maybe even giving the bee miraculous temporally to Aeon or Jess so that we didn’t need to see their awful and uncreative superheroes designs. It would have been nice if they made something more useful other than being characters that believe that Adrien and Marinette are “Meant to be”, like, we already got a ton of these already, couldn’t we get someone who didn’t feel something about this ship? It has so much wasted potential that I don’t even know how to start. Do you agree with anything I said?
I agree, yes. They could’ve easily thrown Luka/Kagami into the mix (or had Marinette/Adrien stay behind while flipping perspectives or something; flawed but they could make it work).

I saw the Backwarder post you just talked about and yes, it is so totally ridiculous. They forgot another thing, though. Miraculous isn't just about comedy, action, and romance, it's about embarrassing Marinette. And the fact that almost everyone in the comments was acting like the medicine scene at the end was funny was just stupid and saddening to hear or read about, because it shows how people have been conditioned to hate and rally against Marinette without even realizing it. Granted, there was one lady who said it reminded her of her husband, so I guess that's okay(but all it means is that Adrien will be Marinette's--aka "his lady's"--husband like eeerrrgh!). And there was one person who said they liked that Juleka's advice because "If you're friend isn't willing to commit crimes for your happiness, is she even your friend?". But everyone else liked the ending. And I don't get the person who said we got "Subtle progression with Adrien and Marinette". We're right where we started.
Weeeeell, I understand the “comedy, action, romance” comment because all of those basically boil down to embarrassing Marinette or invalidating her. Comedy and romance goes without saying while action involves her dealing with Chat “Nice Guy” Noir.

Is it just me, or does Snow White's "Red Shoes" form look a lot like Marinette. I know, I know, Marinette is Chinese and Red Shoes is Korean, but they still look strikingly similar. They're bodies are really similar, too, but that might just be because animation tends to use eerily similar body types for its female characters on a whole. It's sad and it makes me think of how cute Marinette would be if she was fat. I also think Snow White was cuter than Red Shoes but that's kind of the point.
I think it’s the body type thing but that’s just a guess since I didn’t immediately make the connection.
I agree that Snow White is cuter.

Am I the only one who's never liked "destined to fail" characters? Basically this is when characters aren't allowed to be good at/succeed at something or else the whole universe will somehow fall apart. Think of how in The Amazing World of Gumball, if Richard gets a job, the world will be in complete and utter chaos. So he's better off as a lazy, bumbling dad. In Phineas and Ferb, Candace is always trying to rat out her younger brothers but if she gives up or succeeds something bad will happen.
TV Tropes put it the best: "Not only is she not allowed to succeed, but she's also not allowed to stop trying!"(conveniently under the Cosmic Plaything trope). I just don't like it because it shows that the writers just want to lead them on with the promise of success then snatch it away at the last minute. And now we're back at Miraculous Ladybug, where Marinette is humiliated every time she doesn't sign a gift that's for Adrien, and yet when she does, everyone in Paris DIES. Except for...HIM.
you: *mentions Candace*
me: [a million awful flashbacks]
Also, yeah, it’s so hard to watch, especially in “Chat Blanc” because it’s like, “Oh, you want to give a gift to a boy and you dArEd to use your powers for it? Congrats, but everyone else is DEAD and you can hang out with him as much as you want! You’re welcome!”

That’s be real here. Miraculous ladybug is not a show about Marinette; Miraculous Ladybug is a show about Adrien. Adrien is the real main character.
Notice that when they focused on Adrien in “Lies,” they only cut back to Marinette (IN A SCENE THAT CAN’T EXIST) to have her fawn over him.

Is it just me or are Lady Noire's eyes huge? Maybe it's just the green but they seem way bigger than Marinette's
I’m not sure, but considering Rena’s facial structure being different from Alya’s, it wouldn’t surprise me.

With what you've said about Adrien lacking a reason to exist outside of development for Marinette and Gabriel, I have to wonder how different the show would be if Chat Noir's identity was also kept from the audience. Adrien would still be there as himself, but he only gets as much focus as Alya, and Chat Noir's identity is treated as a mystery (a Tuxedo Mask type mystery, but a mystery all the same).
I see what you mean but it might cause Adrien+Chat’s screentime to feel excessive once the reveal happens, because suddenly their screentime gets combined and it’s like, “oh wow so the combined screentime is his then.”

I know that the kwami's really only exist so we can hear our protagonists' thoughts outloud (like what the Coraline movie did with adding Wybie to the story). But honestly, what's the point in having magical gods in the jewelry if you're not going to do anything with them?
Marketing with “cute” side characters.

It's funny, originally, I had shipped Marichat in the sense that Chat and Mari start hanging out and both fall in love with the other's supposedly less perfect, more real selves. Then Luka was introduced and I ended up putting both lukanette and marichat at the same level. Then S3 hit and killed any love I had for Marichat. The writers themselves killed the Love Square for me. At this point, it's very clear they are living in a delusion where the Love Square could ever work narratively without Deus ex Machina or Deus Lo Vult (God wills it). Basically, they've gone past scraping the bottom of the writing skills barrel and are now shoulder deep in the hole they dug thru the bottom of said barrel. I'd like to point out that the bottom of the barrel is writing poop and now they're digging thru the useless plastic landfill the barrel was sitting on top of
Uggggh, yeah. Any appreciation I could’ve had for Marichat died in “Weredad.” I already didn’t like Adrien/Chat and then “Weredad” just showed his complete lack of... well, ANYTHING.

Honestly feels like MLBs writers are going based off the "JUST IMAGINE EVERY POC CHARACTER YOU'RE WRITING AS WHITE" instead of, yknow, fleshing them out while developing them also in the context of their cultures and giving them these little things that the audiences who belong to the same minority can identify with. I don't mean "have Marinette walk in qipao 24/7" bcs thats just... bad on its own but man, /some/ casual acknowledgments of her culture would be nice.
Reading the sentence “JUST IMAGINE EVERY POC CHARACTER YOU'RE WRITING AS WHITE” physically hurts me.

Ok, I've always thought that Chloe was robbed of redemption (they held it in front of us, but then jerked it away while Astruc says, "She's irredeemable! We thought she was redeemable, but she wasn't :)!" What are your thoughts! Also, I just recently found your blog and I really like it :)
Thank you!
But I have no sympathy for bully characters, so I didn’t want Chloe redeemed. Maybe I’m still bitter about my own bullying experience, but I just wasn’t here for Marinette being forced to forgive Chloe, which is basically what they did until they backpedaled.
The time spent on her was wasted though and that I can agree on.

Me: Writes a 1k rant about how the tweet makes no sense as the "mistake" is about motivation and not the critical plot. Also me: Remembers that in MLB the plot always comes back to the romance. Finally me: Wonders why he got involved with the series post-S3 when all the red flags were already everywhere.
Mistakes were made.

I'm semi-catching up on miraculous, and- is it my impression, or does Kagami rebel against her mother more in few episodes she's in (even though her mother's influences on her seem to be stronger in general), than Adrien in the entire show? I /know/ that I don't want to see Adrien free himself from his father w/ the desperation I want to see Kagami free herself from her mother and realize that the standards she's held up to are unhealthy and too strong.
Yeah, I’m way more invested in Kagami than Adrien.

Am I the only one confused about whether the staff stopped caring and half-asses the series or cares too much and over-produces the hell out of it?
Nah. It really feels like they secretly hate the love square so they have to keep forcing it.

If they aired the 6th one first WHAT WHAT HAPPENED TO LEAD UP TO THIS???? WE ARE ON SEASON FOUR WITH TWO SPEICALS, GETTING A THIRD, AND ANY DEVELOPMENT WE HAD HAS GONE BACKWARDS, SUCKED, OR STATUS QUO YO-ED AWAY!!!!! HOW THE HECK DO WE GET ADRIENETTE FROM FOUR SEASONS OF NOTHING?????? I USED TO FANGIRL AT THIS NOW I AM TERRIFIED.
Answer: We don’t get Adrienette. We get forced love square and rushed/fake “development” of it while being constantly confused as episodes air out of order.
Anonymous said:
im sorry But adrienette has been suck in this limbo of one sidedness for 3 seasons. neither of them have become closer, neither of them have confided in one another, but somehow people still ship it? at least luka was able to make a move on marinette lol adrien still repeats the same boring “shes just a friend” line. adrienette is a really boring ship.
lol don’t apologize, you’re absolutely right.

Very minor bit of salt to throw to the pile, but can this show just decide on how strong Miraculous holders are? Yes it's a cartoon and not the focus but in the Furious Fu episode we literally get Ladybug dodging lighting and then Su who seems mostly human and is at least slower then Fu was outspeeding her. It's distracting trying to figure out what is and isn't a serious threat in this show.
The deciding factor in the strength of the miraculous holders is “whatever works for the plot.”

At this point the only thing I'm excited for concerning Miraculous Ladybug is when it gets a reboot in like, a decade with actually competent writers
Best case scenario is that Zag goes bankrupt and Disney/Netflix picks up the series and gives it to competent people.
Problem is that the love square has been ruined so badly for me that even a “good” version of it wouldn’t be something I’d be into, but still.

Honestly, the problem with having all of Marinette's mistakes result in huge disasters (ex. Feast), is that is gives off the impression that teenagers aren't allowed to make mistakes. This show clearly doesn't like giving second chances to the protagonist, so why would life give one to you? Am I right, kids?
Exactly.
Marinette makes mistakes and suddenly the world is ending.

u know, when My Little Pony, Sofia The First, and fanfiction carries out character development, respect, romance, and the main plot better than the original show, especially when the shows mentioned above are aimed more at little girls and the original show is aimed at slightly older audiences... somethings wrong
*sigh*
And then it’s like--people will excuse the show because “it’s a kids’ show” and then I’m just “okay then, why are there actually good kids’ show?”
If shows get a pass for being for children then all childrens’ shows should just not try and be garbage since the standard is so low.

ive seen some cool fic ideas/concepts/reviews that made me think: ml could use so much more looking into how a character thinks in some situations. one fic i read had alya in chameleon (i know its been forever since the ep came out but hey) not question lila cus she thought: "hey, lb wouldnt befriend a bad person" w and added a plot line of lila making her think lb was cobsidering replacing rena rougue. like, just a few lines to make them seem better pls?
YES. Like, show us characters’ perspectives and why they’re rolling with the facts that they’re rolling with, otherwise they just end up looking like jerks.
We sort of got it in “Ikari Gozen” with Kagami but of course it was just to make Marinette look bad.

You know I’m honestly considering making reviews of this show and if I do I could create hour long rants about the show just from that mans twitter.

Okay one thing that bothers me is how plain marinette's suits are despite being a DESIGNER. Her multimouse suit it just blocks of color and her ladynoir suit is just grey with green lines. I think the lines are supposed to represent actually clothes. Like the limes on the calves are supposed to make it look like boots but why not actually GIVE her boots. (Right, because she has to have a skintight suit unlike the boys who get some layers.)
THE SHEER DISRESPECT OF HAVING THE FASHION DESIGNER WEAR SUCH A PLAIN SUIT.
It also goes to show who really designs here, like oh, interesting, the girls get skin-tight simplistic bodysuits and the boys gets all the cool stuff--

Isn’t it INTERESTING how in Frozer, Luka understands that Marinette is torn between her crushes and continues to support her even though he knows she probably won’t chose him, and in the exact same episode Chat Noir refuses to help save the city because Ladybug told him AGAIN that she wasn’t romantically interested in him? HMMM 🤔😑

I’M REMINDED OF “FELIX” WHERE IT’S LIKE--THEY WERE CLEARLY TRYING TO SHOW HOW MUCH “BETTER” CHAT NOIR IS THAN FELIX, BUT LUKA WAS THE RESPECTFUL ONE.

Watching S1 and S3 episodes back to back, it feels like reading salt fics at times, especially in regards to the L². Like, Marinette was happy about weird plans, she both needed and wanted the final push, and most of the time there was at least something coming out of it. Nowadays it just makes her sad, Alya and the girls act *against* her, and we get shipping for shipping's sake.
That’s a good point. The shift from Seasons 1 to 2 to 3 is rather noticeable.

I hate how Adrien's busy schedule seems to only matter when it's used to make Marinette feel bad, but the second Marinette has a bit more to do, it somehow has a negative effect on not only her, but also everyone/everything she cares about, like, what's up with that??
I’m reminded of “Lies” here and I hate it. :|

Honestly, the way the show treats teenage girls is horse ass. The show treats the teenage girls of this show as if they're stupid, naive, emotional, clumsy, and need a boy to tell them what opinions to have. Marinette is always treated like the show's punching bag and blamed for everything that goes wrong because she's "emotional" or "obsessed with Adrien", Chloe could've been redeemed but the writers would rather keep her a brain-dead Alpha Bitch Valley Girl(even though Gabriel and Felix, the latter of whom is a teenage boy introduced in one episode, get to be treated as redeemable, despite the things they do being far, far worse), and Lila is a conniving, self-absorbed fox.
And even though Kagami seems better, she's still roped into the "girls catfight over an oblivious guy" cliche and so far, all of her akumatizations have been because of Adrien. Whenever Marinette tries to move on from Adrien the other characters tell her what's good for her and steer her in the "right" direction because she apparently can't think for herself, and the writers LOVE to use the girl squad to tell us who Marinette should be with, because they apparently know better than she does.
Plus the show loves to treat all the girls as the same, making them all either fight over Adrien or be obsessed with shipping, as if teenage girls are all one assimilating, homogenized group(also when they treat Marinette as if she's "just as bad as Chloe", rinse and repeat for the other ladies.). Honestly, the show feels like it was written by those types of people who think "teenage girls are the worst" so they make them all mood-swingy, obsessive, showoffs, emotional, and downright clingy.
Plus the way Thomas Astruc talks about the female characters on Twitter is even worse, and only serves to make this more evident: he claims Marinette "has poor control over her emotions"(all the while calling Adrien "perfect"), that Chloe was racist in Kung Food "because she's stupid"(so rather than having that scene serve as a lesson on respecting other's cultures, he just did it to pick on Chloe and make her look "stupid"), that she's incapable of being redeemed, that Lila's unlikable but Gabriel and Felix aren't(even though he claimed Felix was a terrible character and a "cliche", that's not what the show says my guy), and other such nonsense.
Other Twitter users have also called out Miraculous Ladybug and its stereotypical treatment of teenage girls. The only shows I've ever seen do this worse are those pretentious "darker" Magical Girl "deconstructions" aimed at grown men such as Madoka Magica and Yuki Yuna, as well as most shonen/seinen shows such as Naruto and Death Note, which says a lot. Honestly, whenever I feel like watching a show with empowering and respectful depictions of teenage girls that treats them as bright and intelligent and actually unique from one another, I just watch Equestria Girls, Liv and Maddie, LoliRock, ANT Farm, Moesha, PreCure, or Sailor Moon. Because the way the show acts towards them is deplorable, absolutely deplorable.
Yes to all of the above. Almost all of the girls are involved in love affairs in some way, the two teenage girls are irredeemable while Felix got a sympathetic backstory right away (Chloe took forever to get hers which is a failure), and Marinette is flawed because she’s “too emotional” (a misogynistic stereotype).

Hi, I'm the anon who got upset at the lady who made the "Miraculous Ladybug is a Mess" rant, and yes, thank you zodiacspirit17 for liking and agreeing with my rant! I'm glad someone else saw that video! And ugh, Marinette learning to love Chat Noir? Really? I don't remember that line but I also don't want to go back and revisit it to make sure so I'll take your word for it. Ew. That was actually one of the things I hated about the Glaciator scene. Chat was supposedly comforting Marinette by taking her to the rooftop where he planned Ladybug's date, and yet only Marinette finds out about Chat's crush on Ladybug and comforts him on that(while rethinking her feelings), while all Chat knows is that Marinette's heart was also broken. He never asks who it is, or tries to help her get over her crush even if he doesn't know it's coincidentally him.
I know it's because of the "love square" but it's unfair that only Chat's love problems are directly addressed. Come to think of it, the reason Chat took Marinette to the rooftop...I know he was doing it in-universe to help her instead of intruding on her personal feelings(which might have also been why he didn't ask her who her crush was, he was probably thinking along the lines of "we don't have to talk about it right now, we can just have fun!"), but meta-wise, since we know she's Ladybug, the writers were probably trying to tell her "See? This is what you could've been doing, but you missed it. Shame on you!" That's a huge issue I have with the show: characters will do things in-universe to help Marinette, but the show has a different motive in mind. Compare to how Tikki gave actual advice to Marinette in Puppeteer 2, but the writers intended that for the statue scene so they could embarrass her in front of Adrien and the thousands of eyes watching the show(except we're not laughing.). Even if characters do support her, the writer is using them as props for her ritualized humiliation. And yet Luka is the problem somehow.
If Marinette needs to learn how to love Chat Noir, then it should at least be balanced out by Adrien learning to Marinette. I'm sick of this double standard that "girls need to learn to accept boys who like them but guys can do what they want". Another thing she said was that "Marinette needs to learn to define herself outside of who she's crushing on." NOPE. NOPE. NOPE. You see, unlike Adrien, Marinette HAS a life outside of who she's crushing on: she has school, she has Kitty Section, she has her "girl squad", she has her parents, she has her outside family, she babysits Alya's and Nino's siblings, and she has OH YEAH HER FASHION DESIGNING! I didn't even count being a superhero since Adrien does that, too. She has so many things to do outside of Adrien, and yet the fact that she makes gifts for Adrien or dreams about Adrien or wants to have kids with Adrien somehow makes her nothing but an "Adrien fangirl"?
First of all, she's the bloody protagonist?! That's such a "Real Women Don't Wear Dresses" argument, that she can't have her own life AND be in love at the same time! And somehow her crushing on Luka also means her life revolves around him, too! But Adrien's life doesn't revolve around Ladybug even though he doesn't really have anything going for him in his ordinary life? Outside of being rich, hot, white, and male, that is? What are his interests and hobbies, besides what Gabriel lets him do to pass the time? He doesn't even like modeling! And the Agreste plot is more about Gabriel, Emilie, and Nathalie than it is about him.
And what about his friendship with Nino? He didn't even care that Nino was getting strung along by Lila with the others! What about his friendship with Chloe that also waxes and wanes? Granted, Chloe's not a GOOD person, which that lady acknowledged, but she at least tried to change and has more development than him, the writers just won't let her change. I hate when people come for Marinette for doing literally anything when the show won't let her have agency and progress. It's so unfair of her and I wish they could see that. These double standards are driving me insane and they're sexist(maybe even a little bit racist, too), and it hurts even more when a woman's doing those things.
(I had to cut off some of this ask because I didn’t get all of it, so I cut it off at the point where it still seemed like a full ask.)
I FEEL THE “GLACIATOR” THING SO BAD. It hurts even worse when you realize that “Frozer” has to take place after “Glaciator,” so Chat Noir heard that Marinette has love problems and then ignored it to ask her for advice about his own love problems later on. The total lack of insensitivity???
Also, the idea that Marinette’s life would revolve around her crush on Luka is stupid. It’s the exact opposite, in fact.
Meanwhile, Adrien has so little going for him and the “interesting” parts of him involve who he’s connected to or what his father has forced him into.

✎desc; how I would rate haikyuu character's drawing.
✎team[s]; fukurodani, inarizaki
✎genre; crack
✎language[s]; english
✎chef note; okay, first off, I'm not a professional drawer but I can still rate drawings. This idea just came to me like a minute ago and I had to do it now, so enjoy :)
Tumblr media
fukurodani.
Bokuto
Aight, I see that we started off greatly.
In all honesty, he have no idea how to draw,
And of course his drawing would look,,,, quite terrible i'm so sorry bokuto lovers
He's that kid in art class where's when the teacher already told them what to draw,
Bokuto sat there on his chair, staring at the canvas
Like, what is he suppose to do? Draw?
Well, yeah technically but what???
I can totally see him frustratingly erase the sketch if it can be called as a sketch
And then proceed to try to copy other people's work
Keyword; try
It's bad but at least he had an effort to finish it
4/10, there I said it
Akaashi
His drawings are not that professional but it's pretty
Have you ever seen a drawing that you wanted to stare at it for hours until you're satisfied?
That what's his drawing are like
Not typically an art kid so he's fine when student's from his art class asked him to draw for them
And is feeling pretty neutral with his talent (he actually won't call it a talent but more like a hobby or sum)
And just say 'thanks' if peoples compliments his drawing
Let say his drawing is, a good 8/10
A decent drawer in conclusion :)
Konoha
Not a bad drawer but he rather keep it basic
Konoha's prolly too lazy to draw something over the top so he's just gonna draw flower or something ksndnzkj
Sometimes sleep during art class and had to ask what they had to draw
Proceeds to decently draws a scenery
He's totally not the creative kid so whenever the teach tell them to draw something, he'll always go with basket of fruits, like,
Man, I appreciated the drawing but at least put some effort on thinking what to draw
The art teacher also kept telling him that he have raw talent and should enhance the skill more,
But that never happened, no
"Sorry ma'am, I'll just stick to volleyball, thank you,"
One part of the art room has a section of konoha's basket of fruits drawings but in different mediums
Rating is 7/10
Washio
IS actually an art kid and you cannot convince me otherwise
Has a small sketchbook with him and he'll always doodle when he's bored or in a middle of a lecture (while taking notes of course)
His main skill in drawing tho is painting
The colors blends in so well with one another and he's good at picking color palettes
Also, he doesn't really get that annoyed if some kids from his class ask him to teach them how to draw
Or even look through his sketchbook
He'll just nod and hand it to them without a second thought
Ajsjdhsijsi Washio get so blushy when someone compliments his drawing,,,,
I’ll give a 10/10 :), congrats
Sarukui
The best that he can do is doodles of owls and other shits but other than that, he cannot do
But the doodles are kinda cute doe ngl
He’ll have his moment where he’s in class and have no idea what to do, and just doodles a bunch of stuff
Once he draw his whole teammate including his coach and himself, he thought to himself,
“Huh, this looks good,”
And then take a picture of it for memories (cause he might throw the book he’s doodling in away)
Speaking of that, he doesn’t have an official book for drawing and just draws in his english or math’s textbook or sum
His juniors eyes are blessed when they got his textbook
Sarukui just vibes in during art class, draws and that’s pretty much it
The drawings,,,,,eh,,,, not that good, he only specialize in doodling as I said
so in conclusion,
drawing? 2/10
doodling? I’ll give a solid 5/10, good job
Komi
I’m gonna say this and I’m prolly gonna say it again
He hates art class
Like, even with him trying his best to draw, it’ll always gonna look strange than what he planned
mf cannot draw a straight line in art class
This dood can draw a nice straight line in any other class whether it’s for a graph or others,
And then proceed to shakily draw a straight line during art session
Totally not an art kid and will never be one
His drawings,,,,
I’m so sorry but it looks so bad
It’ll prolly look a lot better if he put more effort, but it’ll still look bad no matter what
Komi hates art class and can’t draw even a decent doodle so unfortunately, I’ll have to rate it 0/10, sorry :(
Anahori
His drawings are eh
It’s not good but also not bad?
Sometimes you’ll just stare at his drawing for a good minute and be like, what did he just draw just now?
What I’m saying is that his drawing’s are unexplainable
Maybe if you stare at it a little bit longer then it’ll make sense and you can see the beauty in it
But honestly I can’t really see anything, not in a bad way, but like, literally nothing
You’ll be staring at his canvas as the mario kart rainbow road music started playing inside your head
But Anahori is always proud of his drawings no manner what
So, I’ll rate confusion/10
Onaga
Just like Komi, he sorta hates art class too
But lemme tell ya, his sketches are GODLY, like, have you seen those pinterest hand sketches?
That’s what his sketch would look like
It’s so yummy to look at what
But he sucks at lineart so JAHGSDSHD
Onaga cannot properly hold the black pen and do the lineart, it’ll always turn wonky and he had to throw it away
Like, if he spend even hours tryna outline it all, and then erase it
It’ll look so trash
And he’ll just stare at it for a couple of minutes before crumpling the paper
He’ll also suck at coloring
Mans cannot understand how the color blend in together
And I think I’ll rate,,,,,6/10 just cause he suck at coloring and lineart lmao don’t worry i suck at coloring too
Kaori
Another decent drawer and her drawings are almost the same as Akaashi’s
But instead of it looking pretty, it looks cute
I have a headcanon that Kaori have a journal and does journaling so that’s prolly the reason why her drawings are cute af
But honestly, her drawings sometimes depends on her mood,
If she’s mad or frustrated, her drawing would look kinda rough and not that cute anymore
If she’s feeling happy tho, It’ll look so nice and cuddly does that even make any sense
Isn’t necessarily an art kid but would love to try be one
And she totally have drawing sessions with Washio aaaaaa,
Just imagine both of them sketching in the same sketchbook while talking about the volleyball club or anything else
She’s getting an 9/10 just cause her sketchs looks clean <33
Yukie
She doesn’t draw at all
Like, you’ll never see her drawing at any kind of time so you have no idea what it looks like
Yukie would still attend art class,
But never draws
She said that she’s pretty lazy to draw it and said to draw it at her home later
But no one even saw that drawing after that
Yukie doesn’t show her drawings nor EVEN draw for once
So I technically can’t rate :/
inarizaki.
Ginjima
LISTEN
The only reason why I started with Gin is because he have some amazing drawing skills
He admit that he’s not an art kid but draws godly as if he had been thought since he was a kid,
Well, actually yes
I think Ginjima actually wanted to be a drawer when he was still a little kid way before he started his 3rd year of middle school
So he practiced a few and became a nice drawer since then,
But he kinda quit being a drawer and decided to go with volleyball
And guess what?
His drawing talent is still there
He totally specialize in pencil drawing cause that’s the first thing he started learning
The lines are smooth and the shading are so yummy what is wrong with me
The Miya twins and Suna are so sh00ked when he saw his drawing during art class
ngl he’s pretty smug about it too but doesn’t brag about it
I’ll give this boy 12/10, mwuaah
Suna
I hate this man for this sole reason
Suna is too LAZY to draw so he doesn’t give any effort in his drawing
I can guarantee myself that I’ll get an eye strain when I saw his drawing
And...
*wipes away tears*
He draws too many dick
–2/10
Don’t come for my head Suna lovers
Atsumu
OMFG
OKAY, OKAY, I KNOW THAT ATSUMU MIGHT PUT ON SOME EFFORT IN HIS DRAWINGS,
BUT WHY IS IT STILL SO BAD?????
He’ll prolly think his drawing would look good but no, it’s not
No matter on what perspective you look his drawings at, It’ll still look bad
AND HE DOESN’T EVEN NOTICE IT
Osamu laughs a lot at his drawing and they started fighting for that only reason smh
Atsumu, I appreciate your effort so SO much,
But please, just stick to volleyball
–10+/10
I put a plus there because of his effort and because of pity
Osamu
He draws in ms paint, with a mouse
But he can draw some foods tho
But all of it looks wonky af
1/10
Akagi
A pretty decent drawer
Akagi always draw happy and cute drawings so you’ll also get happy when you saw his drawings
Puts on a big smile when people compliments his drawing and shyly scratches the back of his neck
“Nah, this just look normal!”
But he draws oddly thick lines sometimes
Sometimes it looks good in some drawing
And sometimes it looks, bizzare in others...
But I think his drawing would look nice <3
Overall, I’ll give a,,, 7.5/10, keep up the good work
Oomimi
He’s from class 7 AND I really think that he’ll be good at drawing
Well, he can draw a few things but he struggles drawing other things he never accustomed to
But!
Oomimi is that kid who’s good at drawing scenery
He knows basic color palettes and which is cold and hot colors
So the scenery drawing would always look good
He get a lot of compliments for the drawing (50% of it from Akagi)
I think he doesn’t have that many time to relax and draw freely but when he does have it, it’ll just be small and simple doodles
um, let’s go with 8/10 <3
Aran
I truly believe that Aran can draw peoples face but in a pretty decent amount
He’s also good with anatomy teach me your ways king
But as much as he’s good at that, he kinda sucks at drawing any kind of background drawings
Mans can’t draw a scenery I’m telling you
As if the background doesn’t even exist in his mind lolol I’m sorry Aran lovers, I didn’t mean that in a bad way
Mainly uses copic markers to color and color pencils to shade
The first time he use the copic marker, he got really frustrated that the marker stain the other pages lmao
And he never uses digital drawing applications or softwares
Aran just doesn’t
I think I’ll rate him, 8.5/10
Kita
Okay, I know that Kita’s a top student and never fails in anything
But he’s not typically a good drawer that much
His drawing still got good marks but when you look at it, it just looks normal
I just know that the Kita lovers gonna get me after this
It’s not that bad and not that good, just a nice balance in between
I personally think Kita’s not that godly in drawing but rather a neutral drawer
He draw what he can and does shading and coloring when it’s needed
The colors are all basic colors, no pastel, no neon
And the shadings are pretty basic
Just a normal drawer here
Ya’ll gonna fight me for this but I’ll give Kita’s point,
7/10

As another creator/reader, I feel Phantomarine has a lot of good parts: 1. So it starts off thrusting us into the middle, which is unique. Even though we are underwater, the creator gives delightful warm palette. You can identify the spooky 'evil spirits' from the protagonist without the page looking cluttered. 2. I quite enjoyed Ch 2 (The Horizon Child) where I'm presented with more world building and how the story ties with the Red Tide King's lore. My favorite part is the Fracture Day Festival, the colors and the clever plot tactics written. 3. As for character(s), I love Phaedra's noble character. She is a future Queen and has a heroic presence. I also like Vanna, seldom I see great parent writing as her. She is both nurturing and an intelligent doctor. I admire how Lady Lazuli ties her job to Paval's condition. I have a soft spot for silly Paval, his character is both silly yet wholesome (he's not bratty <3) 4: So far, I enjoyed Cheth's interaction (in Ch 1) it told alot about his character; his tendency to shapeshift into different forms. I like his unusual character, hitting my nostalgia buttons for a good villain.(edited)
Joichi [Hybrid Dolls]
For themes, it seems to explore family grief and sacrifices within the chapters I read. To have a stable life, one has to endure hardship such as Phaedra taking on the burden of her father's role. I enjoy reading that life philosophy theme not often explored in web comics. Also Vanna and Paval's interaction gives me good family vibes 7-8. I feel Phantomarine storytelling is intricate and expresses the vibe of an experienced creator. Tackling multiple plot points, stringing them into good beats; is tricky but Lady Lazuli pulls it off almost effortlessly. Initially chapter 1 left me with questions and it starts to reveal itself as the story progresses. I came into the story following Phaedra's adventure and will be in for the ride. 5. I have some favorite illustrations: this one http://www.phantomarine.com/comic/the-horizon-child/2-27-the-maritime-fair/ I love the colorful festival. and also the opening page was quite impressive with the crowds of souls, where they become silhouettes, yet convey enough visuals. I LOVE this page in Ch 3 (Fata Morgana), the way the words 'RUN' echos through http://www.phantomarine.com/comic/the-fata-morgana/3-33-the-dark-shoreline/ There's alot of things I like about it: pacing, the plot progression and as I struggle with stringing multiple plot points, I marvel at this skill in the comic.(edited)
Miranda
1. I love that the stakes are high after just a couple pages. There's no dallying and it draws you in so well. Also Cheth is just fantastic and his introduction is so well done! 2. I really loved Pavel eating pancakes and Pavel hiding in his stuffed animal hammock nest to point out a few scenes. It's so hard to choose a favorite moment, but sadly I'd have to say the end of Chapter 3 and just how that all unfolds. 3. GAH! Pavel? Ya...Pavel. Cheth is wonderful, but I feel like Pavel is so young but already has such an interesting personality and I love his spirit. 4. I really enjoyed Pavel and his Mom. But Cheth and Phaedra's interactions were very entertaining. But Pavel and Vanna are just so close and supportive it's just heartwarming sniffle because I know what happens And the warmth and love there stands out a lot against the harshness of the "convent-like" place and Halea's temple, etc. 5. OMG. where to start? I don't even know. I love it. I love the colors. I love the designs. I love the pages with all the tiny little details, they are wonderful. But I think one of my favorites is: http://www.phantomarine.com/comic/the-fata-morgana/3-34-the-prayer/ because I love the contrast between Pavel and Cheth and I think there's just a whole bunch of emotion in this page. 6. This might not be a purposeful theme, but in general I've caught a theme of how danger and bad stuff is handled and I love seeing such strength in all the characters. Phaedra with he just outright defiance, Pavel with his positive outlook and Vanna with love and compassion but also with a analytical mind. They all handle tragedy and loss in their own ways and it's very well done. 7. Everything. This is a very difficult question. 8. Use of color and characters that all stand out from each other.
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
cracks knuckles Alright, let's GO! 1. I loved how we immediately know the stakes. We see Phaedra's personality in the challenges Cheth offers, and we know that she's well aware of the situation she's in. It gives it a mythological feel, of the hero in the underworld fighting to the surface. Only this time, there's a caveat; she's still technically an underworld denizen, but allowed to roam the land of the living. The colours set the mood very well too; I loved that the Red Tide King's ghosts were all rimmed in red, while the protagonist were either yellow or blue (diametrically opposed to the red.). And of course, Cheth; he's a wonderful villain opposed to the protagonist, and they have great rapport.
2. Oh dear, there are several to choose from. My favourite one so far is when Cheth asks Phaedra how many people were made into orphans after the war. It was that scene that immediately made me hooked onto the story; a story that went there and isn't afraid to go to that deep, dark place will always get me to keep reading. Another more minor moment was when Eddy was revealed to bully Pavel due to not having his family visit him; it's a great way of having an antagonist show that they are not truly all dark; rather, it's a morally grey area that the characters are in. Even an antagonist can have layers and it makes them seem more human. Finally, Vanna's passing into the Fata Morgana. The scene where she said that she was glad to have saved him, and where they said their goodbyes made me cry. As someone who's had to say goodbye to my own mom as she goes abroad....and not knowing when she'll be back, it hits a deep part of me. I really thought Vanna would be one of the main protagonists.....but alas, it was not to be.(edited)
3. CHETH! Hands down, CHETH! Notwithstanding my bias for underworld cthonic deities, I LOVED his personality. The fact that he reminds me of one of those deliciously personable villains from Disney helps a lot. And I loved how he never let's Phaedra forget that he is a threat, a blue/orange morality villain throughout; he uses his collection of souls to yell at her to be quiet, points out that she's a monster like him, and impersonates her dead father. But he also shows signs of not being a completely inhuman god; like when he shows a slight look of pity/sympathy for Phaedra mourning her father, or when Pavel mourned his mom's passing into the otherworld. Also, I don't see a lot of deities who fluidly go between genders like he does. It makes him so much more interesting, that he shifts into different identities that way. One of the best portrayals of a death deity I've ever seen.
4. Cheth and Phaedra. There's an interesting power dynamic going inbetween these two; on one hand Cheth is a literal god, and he holds a lot of power. On the other hand, Phaedra has shown time and time again to outsmart him both mentally (e.g. winning the questions) and physically (e.g. cutting off his hand). And yet Cheth recuperates from those injuries fast enough to go against her again. It's a back and forth game of David and Goliath. Interestingly enough.....Cheth seems to hold some measure of interest with Phaedra, as if she is an entertainment to him. However, there's also his slight contempt with where she came from, and it's as if however entertaining she is....he'll never forget that. Meanwhile, Phaedra outright wants to kill him....which I don't think anyone can blame her for. It would be interesting to see how their relationship evolves throughout the story as foes.
5. THE ART. IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. The colours balance each other well, the painting style gives it a soft feel, like going into a new world. But I absolutely, absolutely HAVE to give kudos to the details LadyLazuli gives in the backgrounds and the world in general; worldbuilding wise, it shows strong potential for show and don't tell. Several of these pages can be standalone posters themselves!
http://www.phantomarine.com/comic/king-of-the-red-tide/1-1-king-of-the-red-tide/
Several. http://www.phantomarine.com/comic/king-of-the-red-tide/1-31-the-echoing-graveyard/
I mean it http://www.phantomarine.com/comic/schooner-of-the-moon/4-1-schooner-of-the-moon/
6. One theme I'm really interested in and noticed is the idea of paranoia of the vulnerable/sick. Cheth has brought up the idea that a living soul is needed to help Phaedra; however, as she is a seaghost, many people would either be too scared or repulsed by her to aid her. And the seabitten were generally treated as needing to fear or be ashamed of their own "afflictions". Pavel and his mother, however, seem to take exception to that rule and are more interested in helping or accepting these afflictions, trying not to let the fear and paranoia prevent them from being charitable. It would be interesting to see how this theme develops more, as Pavel and Phaedra eventually meet. Would Pavel still keep to these views? Or will society....or....something else, convince him to fear them even more. Or worse, would his mother's death make him more frightened of the seaghosts?. I can see a lot of parallels with this theme to the lepers and other people with diseases; people were scared to even interact with the lepers and they were considered "dirty". It is a common and sadly still very prevalent theme in real life to this day.(edited)
7. I have to say....everything. It just sucks you in very easily.
8. The strength is that it reads like an epic, and not just any epic....a true to life one. The story and dialogue flows amazingly and the colours are vibrant. Overall, it's exactly how I imagine a perfect seafaring mythological story; sometimes I feel like I'm watching a film. I will note that one thing LadyLazuli nailed is pacing. She knows which panels to have dialogue and which ones to not. Sometimes we get dialogue and other times we're just....enjoying the atmosphere and the beautiful backgrounds. Hayao Miyazaki once clapped his hands slowly, making sure to leave a pause inbetween. That was ma, the emptiness, where there is no noise, but just the peace to enjoy and savour. Where there is no action needed. I think Lady Lazuli nailed the concept of ma perfectly. Because she lets the readers enjoy her world.
SkewricArt
5. What is something you like about the art? If you have a favorite illustration, please share it! The backgrounds and color choices are stunning every single time. The page where we first see the fata morgana, with the off whites and ethereal blues looks absolutely haunting to me and it's a favorite (The Archer, 3.26) and the context makes me wanna CRY but that page is so incredible zjsfskf(edited)
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Wow, a mountain of words after the first day And all of them extremely kind. Thank you all so much! This has seriously lifted my spirits today
Joichi [Hybrid Dolls]
You are welcome, Lady Lazuli! I binged in 3 days. oh dear I feel like I was writing a book review more than a Q&A at this point (edited)
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
These honestly feel like book reviews! Extremely passionate book reviews It’s a wonderful sight. And it helps me know what people respond to, and how they respond to it. I will be going back and reading these like direction notes, ohoho~
RebelVampire
What I like about the beginning is kind of how much world lore is snuck in. We learn a lot about Cheth, the state of the sea, how death works, get name drops of other people like Cheline. So without having this long narrative about the world, we get to know a lot about it in the conversation without that necessity. For favorite moment, it's probably when Pavel and Vanna met Halea. Cause I've never seen a scene scream danger at the top of its lungs or feel a child was so threatened by anything. My favorite character at the moment is definitely Pavel. Pavel is just a cute boy who wants to heal the ocean even as most of the adult's around him say "Nah bro dat bad." I also just think it's cute how much he takes after his mother in regards to his appreciation of science. I also just in general like his design. I enjoy(ed) seeing Pavel and Vanna interact the most. They had a super cute parent-child relationship. I like how Vanna kind of balances keeping Pavel in line while also acknowledging that he's ultimately kind of the odd man out both in regards to his physical situation and his beliefs that he shares with his mom. Just all around I love the artworks color. There's a lot of great palettes, a lot of atmosphere, a lot of great contrasts, etc. All around it's just beautiful colorwork that really knows how to make the mood of each scene and character work. As for themes the comic explores, definitely for me science and the opposition scientific pursuits science can face. It's easy to say "But science", but when people are afraid of science or just don't like new ways of doing things, it can become hard no matter how much promise your work has. And I think the comic captures this really well, while at the same time combining more fantasy elements that still blend together really well.
What I like about the comic's overall story insofar is, as a personal bias, the high stakes political plot where people are getting assassinated, souls are being bargained, and so forth. I am a sucker for that since even if it's not the main focus, it adds a sense of danger and high stakes that otherwise would not be presence. For overall strengths, I refer back to the art question. It is definitely the entirety of the beautiful artwork.
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Once my work day is done I'm going to comment on some bits of feedback - before other questions come out soon! These observations are tickling my brain. Some are things I haven't even considered before which is extra fun as an author.
snuffysam (Super Galaxy Knights)
Something interesting is that... right now, I'm not entirely sure Cheth is the bad guy? Like, Pavel noted that the red ghosts don't actually attack people. And Halea is definitely all sorts of suspicious, despite being a follower of Cheline. Yet if Cheth isn't a bad guy, he sure didn't make any effort to convince Phaedra of that. So there's a question of who's actually responsible for all the stuff that's going down (all the assassinations, all the attacks, etc).
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
Good point! Not only that.....but did you notice that the Fata Morgana has feathers? Kind like how the followers of Cheline do...
mariah (rainy day dreams)
I think the page where Pheadra reveals it's the year of the bonefish was the moment where I was like "oh, I don't think Cheth's bad. I think he's a lonely jerk trapped essentially by himself at the bottom of the ocean with a bunch of soulless dead people." Just the look on his face on this page and the second one make me think that it hasn't been his year in a long time. Or maybe ever XD which would probably turn anyone into a jerk. http://www.phantomarine.com/comic/king-of-the-red-tide/1-10-mark-of-the-bonefish/
And it maybe have also been that I had just finished rereading His Dark Materials when I originally read this but I very much hope at the end all of the Seaghosts are released from the ocean and balance is brought back to death. And I'll stand by my original comment at the end of the chapter still. Still team Phaedra as a Persephone figure at the end XD
I'm looking forward to actually meeting Cheline. Currently I'm pretty anti-Cheline (because I'm a Cheth apologist lol) but I imagine she will also be complex and neither 100% good or bad.
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
@mariah (rainy day dreams) so it was YOU who made that persephone/hades comment!
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
And it maybe have also been that I had just finished rereading His Dark Materials when I originally read this
@mariah (rainy day dreams) HDM is one of my favorite series ever so this pleases me MUCHLY. Absolutely a big influence!
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
It’s an amazing book series. For quite a while I imagined what my daemon would have been when I was younger.
mariah (rainy day dreams)
@mariah (rainy day dreams) so it was YOU who made that persephone/hades comment!
Lol yes, that was me XD
@mariah (rainy day dreams) HDM is one of my favorite series ever so this pleases me MUCHLY. Absolutely a big influence!
@LadyLazuli (Phantomarine) It's so good has definitely left big marks on my own writing and I love seeing it's influences other places :3
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
I feel Phantomarine storytelling is intricate and expresses the vibe of an experienced creator. Tackling multiple plot points, stringing them into good beats; is tricky but Lady Lazuli pulls it off almost effortlessly.
@Joichi [Hybrid Dolls] This is very kind! This is my first experience making any sort of long-form story, and my first-ever comic but I think my background in animation has given me a crash course in storytelling - how to convey information as simply/quickly as possible while still being impressive and fun to watch. I watch a lot of storyboards all day, so I'm sure that certainly helps! And I don't have any other stories in my head right now, so I guess I'm throwing everything I have into this one. There are still things I’m discovering as I go along, too. I know all the major destinations, but the paths between them are sometimes still a mystery to me. It's like a puzzle I'm solving slowly
@Miranda I like this very much. One of the main themes I wanted to cover in the comic is the idea of brokenness. The circumstances that break people, how they react to it initially, how they react to it as time progresses, and how they try to solve it... if they can, or want to. Being threatened by danger and darkness is absolutely a source of fear, and can lead to a broken feeling, so this lines up!
2. Oh dear, there are several to choose from. My favourite one so far is when Cheth asks Phaedra how many people were made into orphans after the war. It was that scene that immediately made me hooked onto the story; a story that went there and isn't afraid to go to that deep, dark place will always get me to keep reading. Another more minor moment was when Eddy was revealed to bully Pavel due to not having his family visit him;
@shadowhood (SunnyxRain) YES. I'M SO GLAD.
4. Cheth and Phaedra. There's an interesting power dynamic going inbetween these two; on one hand Cheth is a literal god, and he holds a lot of power. On the other hand, Phaedra has shown time and time again to outsmart him... It's a back and forth game of David and Goliath.
@shadowhood (SunnyxRain) I never thought about it like this, but that's absolutely the mood I wanted. A pair of characters in constant conflict, and even though one seems far stronger/scarier, there is more of a balance between them than expected.
6. One theme I'm really interested in and noticed is the idea of paranoia of the vulnerable/sick.
@shadowhood (SunnyxRain) A lot of the big emotional segments of the comic are drawn directly from my experience with an illness I developed in my early 20s. I felt like I had lost not just my strength and health, but everything I had worked so hard for. There was also a risk of being physically marked by the illness, so everyone would be able to tell I was sick, and therefore write me off as unreliable or broken. I never meant to write a whole story about that feeling, but it seemed to happen on its own
I will note that one thing LadyLazuli nailed is pacing.
@shadowhood (SunnyxRain) I think my pacing is incredibly fast in chapters 2 and 3 but it's only because I wanted to get back to the main story SO badly. But maybe the things I had to cut were unnecessary. I do like to keep the plot moving; with how long the pages take, I don't have much time to lose!
Miranda
(I have to second that pacing comment. You do it so well!)
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
For favorite moment, it's probably when Pavel and Vanna met Halea. Cause I've never seen a scene scream danger at the top of its lungs or feel a child was so threatened by anything.
@RebelVampire WELL, GOOD By the time this story is over, I wanted people to feel physically ill whenever they revisited that scene, knowing everything that will happen. I hope I eventually succeed... (edited)
As for themes the comic explores, definitely for me science and the opposition scientific pursuits science can face.
@RebelVampire Ooh! This was unintentional from the start, but is absolutely something I'm exploring as I'm planning the rest of the story. I like where it started to go on its own, so I'll be doing more of it for sure
@mariah (rainy day dreams) I actually have a couple different potential endings in mind, depending on how the plot goes and how audiences react, so... nothing is out of the realm of possibility here for better or for worse!
I'm looking forward to actually meeting Cheline. Currently I'm pretty anti-Cheline (because I'm a Cheth apologist lol) but I imagine she will also be complex and neither 100% good or bad.
@mariah (rainy day dreams) Can confirm no one in this story is 100% good or bad. That is all I will say. As I scream internally.
Okay, that was a lot. More than good enough for now
Deo101 [Millennium]
Okay, so I finally managed to get caught up on this one. I've been meaning to for a while! I don't do very well with questions so I'm just gonna kinda ramble on about how much I absolutely love this so far. The worldbuilding is seamless, it never feels like infodumping even though a ton has been revealed to us. I'm also endlessly curious about everything that's been brought up. The kinds of themes being covered; Light and dark, Death, Nothing being quite as it seems (Cheth being sympathetic, and Halea seeming like she has some dark secrets...), The trickery, The need to do what's right, Just all of it! This comic is making me think, and that's really pretty rare! (For something to get me to think about it and theorize, I need to not get caught up on anything else... The pacing, the visuals, the way the dialogue is written and arranged, it's all very clear and easy to follow. I might not remember all the names, but I know who is who and I know who is being referenced) It made me cry, and I am so excited to see where it's going. It's really hitting everything I love about a good story so far. Really this is incredible. I'll be trying to keep up with the discussion this week!
I only read it once and I went through it pretty fast so forgive me if this is a crazy theory but I wonder if Halea died, and won back her soul? Or, if she was seabitten and traded more than just her eyes so she wouldn't die. I notice all of the seabitten people have red eyes, and hers being glass would certainly hide that. She also specified cremating phaedra, rather than burying her, and I don't know if that's customary or just cause it took so long to find her, but I wonder if it's partially to try and make it harder or impossible for phaedra to return... Not sure if that would do anything but hey why not spill all my thoughts while I've got the chance?
(now after having said that it's time for me to backread and see if i've embarassed myself)
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
does mental calculations No, no. This checks out with what's been stated so far. Theory is legitimate! And... is focusing on all the right things
Deo101 [Millennium]
phew lol
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
Ayy, you finally read it!
Was it as good as we hyped it up to be :p
Deo101 [Millennium]
yeah, Ive been meaning to read it i didnt need to be so thoroughly peer pressured... ;)
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
Sorry I haven't participated in this book club yet ;; I will before the end of the week, I promise
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Also WOW what incredibly kind words again. Thank you!! And did it really make you cry?? I'm always so confused when people tell me that - I keep thinking there's too little story there yet to cause tears
Deo101 [Millennium]
yeah ;a;
I work with children
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
Maternal love resonates very strongly with me
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Ohhh god. Um... okay... then.... checks notes Have a bucket ready after chapter... six, ish??
Deo101 [Millennium]
so just the line "I didn't know how much it would hurt. How... how did you handle this pain...?" really got to me
(sorry had to go find it so I could get the qote)
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
AHHHH
Yess
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
That scene was a slog to get through. Every penstroke hurt.
Deo101 [Millennium]
and yet you say "I'm always so confused when people tell me that"
-_-
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
for me it was these lines
the obvious ones lol
Deo101 [Millennium]
spoiler that
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Maybe I don't think people are getting as hurt as I am
Deo101 [Millennium]
you dingus
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
i did...
Deo101 [Millennium]
oh my god I must have clicked as soon as you sent it
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
you-
Deo101 [Millennium]
sorry I obsessively click while I'm reading things
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
ugh what even is the point of spoiler tags when there are people like you around
Deo101 [Millennium]
people who click every spoiler tag even if they know they dont want whats underneath? or people who click with reckless abandon
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
BOTH
(sorry off topic i will stop now)
Deo101 [Millennium]
Yeah so anyways back to my theories. I need to remember them now, you DISTRACTED ME.
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
your theories were too good, i didn't want to be shown up
Deo101 [Millennium]
ugh. I don't remember but it was something about what must have been used to save pavel. It must have been some kind of a relic like the one phaedra needs (which can complete her and her friends souls, again, This would be assuming that being seabitten involves a part of your soul being taken which I assume to be true), something like phantomarine which repels the seaghosts (This would be assuming that seabiting as a disease is akin to being a zombie, which I am less convinced of because it turns you into a fata morgana- not a seaghost, but there could be some reason for that difference), or something with a sacrifice (goes along with my other theory)
Joichi [Hybrid Dolls]
It's similar with me, I don't often see good parent writing with indie comics. (I'd love to read more on good family writing) So Phantomarine convinced me of Vanna's believable maternal nature. I was counting the pages, and you have a good pacing, it has a good balance of world build with showing in pieces. I'm impressed because I've drawn comics for afew years but it's always a learning process whenever I draw a new series, explore new themes. So I admire your skills(edited)
Deo101 [Millennium]
Also, Cheth suggested that there is not really a way for souls to come from nowhere. They are consumed by the ghosts or him, And in Phaedra's case she had to split her soul among her friends; they couldn't get theirs back, they were gone. I'm at least partially convinced that The relic will be a way to steal someones soul to restore your own, or that there will be some kind of moral dillemma with needing to feed on other's souls to bring yourself back. I don't think it will be a "and then everyone gets out scott free" sort of deal
again I read it once and really fast so I'm assuming a LOT here sorry if im like. way off base
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
WOA
I love that. I felt like there would be something about relic that was too easy
I really like that theory
Deo101 [Millennium]
continuing the last little bit, I think that there is potential, if it was a sacrifice on his mother's part that he is alive now, that pavel is going to start deteriorating and his seabite will begin to spread. I think I could imagine phaedra giving up the part of her soul she has to restore his or something.
okay im getting crazy now sorry GASJDGKLGJSKLGD
depends on what's gonna happen in chapter 6 that rips our hearts out I guess, doesnt it?
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
hm, i'm not sure phaedra would do that. i think she has too much of an obligation to her country to give up her soul to a random kid?
Deo101 [Millennium]
well theres a lot of development that would happen before then :/ Just a thought!
im not saying "yeah this is what its gonna be"
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
i know
Deo101 [Millennium]
but I think phaedra does have a lot of growing she needs to do, in many directions
and. she's also clearly compassionate towards children. who have lost their parents. just. as an addition
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
@Joichi [Hybrid Dolls] My brain is a web of red threads connecting random pieces of paper The first chapter took me about 2.5 years to complete (I was slow... and Photoshop is slow... and work was overtime-y... and crowds are a terrible idea, please don't do them) so it gave me lots of time to build up the story beyond it. And I didn't post it publicly as I went along - I went back and changed a lot of things as I came up with new ideas. It's only now that I feel comfortable enough to say the machine is 'rolling' But there were some elements that I only came up with, like, a week before posting a page?? The Fata Morgana didn't exist for the longest time, for example, and now they're crucial to the plot. But you don't see me mention them at all in the first chapter I'd go back and change that if I could.
Deo101 [Millennium]
not a random kid I thought it was p obvious that hes the living person who would be willing to work with a seaghost
and then they'll get to know eachother and phaedra is gonna be changed by his big heart.. obviously...
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
yes of course
wholeheartedly looking forward to them meeting
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)

I still need to read the most recent chapter ahh
Deo101 [Millennium]
im so sorry. fish you lulled me into not spoilering. I'll go edit
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
oop

LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Everyone wins. You all get candy.
But no answers
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
cool mail it to me
my address is 2938..
Deo101 [Millennium]
yeah i noticed all my theories didnt get answers either... damn. waiting is hard.
fish you've got my address too can you just pass it along, thaaaaanks
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
it'd be cool to read the book club back in like
a year or two
:0
finally a chance to doxx someone
what i've always wanted
Deo101 [Millennium]
I feel like this is implying i'll forget my theories. I wont. they live in my brain now.
literally forgot them in the middle of this conversation
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
yeah but i might forget your theories
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Go put 'em in the theory channel where I can't see them. Even though I've seen them now OHOHO
I am literally not allowed in my own theory channel
Deo101 [Millennium]
wait WHAT? you made a channel you couldnt see...????
I would die
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
oh what you can't see the theory channel? always just assumed you lurked there
Deo101 [Millennium]
we are polar opposites I will go off about all my plans if someone even hints at me that they want them
maybe i could learn a thing or two from you.
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
i would too but no one ever asks
Deo101 [Millennium]
I wont. but I'm sure I could
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
I do not! I don't want anyone thinking I've stolen their idea, and I don't want my original plans to be changed... so... Off-limits
Deo101 [Millennium]
That's fair ^^
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
i thought you had several plans :0
how are you choosing between them?
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
I have told the full story to... um... three people so far? And by told, I mean... screamed at them
I have minor changes I can make to the ending, but the pathway to them is pretty much the same!
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
woah, okay!
i don't think anyone would think you stole their idea though
if anything, i think they'd feel smart for getting it right!
Deo101 [Millennium]
yeah I'd just be like yesss I was right
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
I think, before the theory channel opened, I saw one theory that was spot-on
And I was like you children are smart
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
time to look through chat logs
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
HAHA. Best of luck
Deo101 [Millennium]
but there is a history of some people having literally been sued for ppl stealing their ideas from their fanfics and whatnot
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
i've heard if you send an unsolicited pitch to a big studio they will always return unopened partially for this reason
Deo101 [Millennium]
so its safe for you to not see them.. but I would be sad in your shoes. but I can tell that you're definitely not like me in this aspect. Plus your story is really pretty clearly woven very tightly to be a mystery and I have a feeling you want it to unravel in a specific way, where spoilers would actually change how it's percieved.
vs. yknow. spoilers don't change how ppl read my story. so I get it! I hope to one day write a story i need to keep secret tbh
n youre doing a good job of it, clearly
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
yee. It's "aaaaaa" now, but I can't wait to be "WOAH" when secrets are finally revealed!
Deo101 [Millennium]
and then the re read party
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
THough to be honest, I'm looking forward most to character interactions, not worldbuilding details
Deo101 [Millennium]
I'm not, I want to know the mystery!!!
I mean im looking forward to the character interactions and all that yadda yadda
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
even just like, "pavel and phaedra meet" is enough to keep me engaged :)))
yeah for me, i don't usually care as much about world details
I'm more like
I wanna see what happens to Vanna!
I wanna see Cheth sad
I want to meet Phaedra's friends
And I want to know everyone's backstories
which is probably not possible to piece together from present plot details
Deo101 [Millennium]
Anyways phantomarine kicks ass and I've already sent it to someone asking them to read it.
also full disclosure I thought that phaedra's name was phantomarine for like a long time
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
I am absolutely fine with this.
By Twitter naming conventions she will be Phaedra Phantomarine anyway
Deo101 [Millennium]
I was literally just imagining. one sec.
I need to do an edit. one moment please.
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
Zelda is a cute boy\
love playing as him
Deo101 [Millennium]
I was gonna edit her introducing herself as phaedra phantomarine but I'm struggling to find the perfect page for it
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Well I'll just have to draw more of her then
I really haven't drawn her looking happy or confident very much yet
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
She always looks so cheerful and sure of herself in concept art
and then in the comic it's like
">:(" "D:"
Deo101 [Millennium]
the range
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
She's just... stressed
A very stressed character
Deo101 [Millennium]
Lord do I feel that
Comic Tea Party
DISCUSSION PROMPTS – PART 2
9. In what way do you think Pavel’s story will with connect with Phaedra’s? How might the two help or hurt one another as they pursue their individual goals?
10. Do you believe that Phaedra will succeed in her quest to restore her and her friends’ life? What challenges do you think she will face along the way? Also, what do you think will happen to her even if she does succeed given the shady origin of her death?
11. Why do you think Pavel and Vanna were attacked? What does this have to do with them being given Phantomarine? Also, what might this all have to do with their chance encounter with Halea and the coincidental Fata Morgana attack?
12. What do you think Cheth’s ultimate goals are besides collecting souls? What do you think caused Cheline and Shoshana to banish Cheth during the Fracture, and what might all this backstory have to do with the seaghosts and potentially fixing everything?
Don’t feel inspired by the prompts? Feel free to discuss anything else that interested you!
Miranda
9. Well I definitely think they will work together to help restore souls...in some way....and I'm thinking Cheth might guide Pavel towards Phaedra, either knowingly or not. Or Phaedra will come to save Pavel. But I think they will work together for the most part and be able to commiserate over their lost parents. Once they get the relic, there might be some tension regarding how it is used. 10. As people mentioned, her soul is split between her friends. I think she'll be able to restore her own soul, but likely at the cost of her friends dying. I agree that the relic Cheth told her about can't be as easy as he made it seem. There has to be some trick to it. I think she's already facing her challenges of trying to help and get help as a partial sea ghost. I think there will be a bigger challenge once she gets the relic for the afore mentioned reasons. I think her coming back will upset certain people significantly. But I don't think know enough about Halea's plan to know just how upset she'll be at that. 11. Possibly, sea ghosts are drawn to Phantomarine, but are unable to get close enough. So they swarm because it's a beacon to them. So while the Phantomarine protected them, it also put them in the line of fire. I'm liking the idea that Halea was seabitten and that ties in to why she has glass eyes, so discovering another seabitten that's survived is going to be very interesting to her. I'm not sure what it had to do with the Fata Morgana attack besides drawing the swarm towards them. From what we've seen, Fata Morgana seem to appear where there are a lot of sea ghosts. But they very well could be Halea's assassins.
12. I think he wants to return/go on land (as he been on land before) and return to his "rightful" place. Maybe they banished him because he was preventing people from passing on properly, so they banished him thinking he would be less able to meddle with the passing on of souls. But obviously that didn't work. I would imagine if Cheth leaves the sea somehow, the souls he's gathered would be able to roam the earth as well, and that could just cause chaos for the living. But maybe it would also require him to leave his souls to pass on finally, leaving the ocean at peace?
Deo101 [Millennium]
I keep thinking about how the sea keeps being referred to as being "broken", and I wonder so much what that means. Could have something to do with the nature of cheth being banished off shore, and perhaps the existence of phantomarine itself? It seems to be linked with the seaghosts and him, and we've already seen prices being paid to gain power, and I assume the price that a god would pay is far steeper than what humans do... And then that leads me to thoughts about why cheth would have been banished. I think he knows something, or his sister wanted more power, or something like that. The people very obviously are dead set against hating cheth and loving everyone else, and I can't help but think how history is written by the Victors..
RebelVampire
My friends, just as a reminder, even if you spoiler tag here (which is fine for the chat), spoilers cannot be hidden in the archives.
Deo101 [Millennium]
Are we not supposed to talk about them? I'm a little confused sorry
RebelVampire
No you can. I'm not gonna stop it. Just saying it as a reminder.
Miranda
I was just spoilering for people that maybe aren't caught up that wanted to read in this channel.
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
I guess if people read everything after the fact, spoilers will still show up in the conversation's archived state but hopefully no one reading it will be unfamiliar with the comic. At least I hope so. Dunno why they'd be reading the archive and not the comic
Deo101 [Millennium]
Kinda what I was thinking, I was just worried we were being like, edged into "hey maybe stop doing this thing in particular" but idk what that thing would be
RebelVampire
I have no clue why anybody would be reading an archive before the comic, but sometimes people be crazy? XD But again, just as a reminder in case there's super secret information that reveals all.
Deo101 [Millennium]
My theories are too good apparently
I'm kidding. thanks for the reminder!
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Your theories are indeed very solid. I didn't intend to write a mystery, but here we are
FeatherNotes(Krispy)
Alright! my turn to give this comic more love! 1. The absolute Tension that was created between Cheth and Phaedra, and the fact that we jump right into this conversation involving SO MUCH! It's an incredible way to start off with so much intrigue and suspense as to what happened with Phaedra, her crew, her father, her family- and to have it all tied to a challenge set by Cheth to essentially put all the pieces together- sublime! What a way to kick off! 2. My fave is probably the beginning of chapter 2, with Pavel and his wee adventures and curiosity about the sea. It really gives that light to show just how much potential Pavel has about uncovering those mysteries of the sea he so lovingly interacts with (and on the same hand the one who gave him his pain and purpose). 3. Vanna. Hands Down. She's loving, she's fast acting, and she's someone who holds that ground for characters. I also really love Fata Morgana for her design and her energy. Super chaotic and mysterious hunter of death for the red tide king? sign me up. 4.Lady Halea and Pavel! That was such an interesting moment of her being knowing and foreboding at the same time. I can't wait to see what more of a role she plays in the future! 5.http://www.phantomarine.com/comic/the-horizon-child/2-1-the-horizon-child/ This is my favourite panel, along with the entirety of chapter 3's colour vibe. Claire has an incredible way to create and lead with atmosphere and design- the characters and world feel so well lived in and alive. Each page is given breath and love, it's astounding to see! 6. I love the theme of honour and accountability that Phaedra leads with in the beginning. Her drive to defeat the wrongs done to her by the red tide king, and her perseverance to do more for those also affected. Pavel and his themes of hope, light, and a second chance also really strike such a chord with me. He's a character that has the power to alter the decisions of those around him for sure!
7. Phenomenal and wonderfully put together. You can instantly tell that this story is going to be a classic with the way it's set up, and with the care and thought of each chapter reading like an epic, Phantomarine has a lot to offer! 8. There are so many to point out, but I definitely want to re-iterate the design. It's insanely solid and so recognisable on it's own. I love the lore and the thought that was out into making this world as alive as it is!
FeatherNotes(Krispy)
9. I think Pavel is more or less a 'bringer of light' I think his decisions will cause major rifts in the story, and help Phaedra through looking at her situation with a different perspective. I think he's a really strong character! 10.I do believe that there is going to be loss and love along the way, like any long journey. The amazing thing about this is the possibilites of their actions, and where Phaedra may actually end up in the end. Her firey personality certainly can be her down fall to a degree, but I think that her goal will be reached in the end, though perhaps not in a way she expected ! 11.Vanna certainly knew more than she let the readers know, and Fata Morgana (and cheth) knew of that potential on that island. Im also feeling like Lady Halea, shady as she is, knew about such a possibility of an attack (but that is based on my own personal hunches !) 12. Cheth misbehaves and he's ready to make some waves in the water (literally ) I think he's ready to strike against his imprisonment, and Phaedra and Pavel are his 'potential pawns' along the way. I don't know if he is really behind a larger part of the plot, tbqh, and think that he's more so an opportunist who's ready to get out of time out. Halea and the gang on the other hand strike me somewhat differently
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Krispyyy these are all so lovely AHH
And some your readings are spot-on I’m so glad
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
I think peoples’ reaction to Pavel is such a pleasant surprise. I was very unsure of adding him initially, and some people have said that seeing him right after ch 1 made them worried to keep reading... but he’s absolutely the link between the two conflicting sides of the world. I honestly tried to think of kid characters I liked in various forms of media, and ones I DIDN’T like. I considered him a challenge, and I wanted to do right by him. If Phaedra is the brain of the story, and Cheth is... whatever Cheth is... then Pavel is absolutely the story’s heart. He’s so important.
Joichi [Hybrid Dolls]
I did find Pavel as a good refreshing take on the 'energetic boy lead' or deuteragonist in this case. At first I thought he was that usual rascally boy who does what he wants. I think of Hogarth in Iron Giant. But the nice bits of sympathy you put into him, made him a stronger character.(edited)
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Hogarth is pretty much a perfect child character in my mind. Still learning, still reckless, but capable of understanding deeper concepts than most would expect. His naïveté drives the story, but not in a bad way.
Deo101 [Millennium]
I absolutely love Pavel. He rings true to the kinds of children i work with, rather than the endlessly annoying types that are for some reason more typically depicted
Granted some kids are annoying but not usually how they're shown to be
Miranda
Oh Hogarth. I love that movie
But yes. Pavel is such a great character. There's so much to him and he's only a child but it doesn't make him seem less childish...if that makes sense
Joichi [Hybrid Dolls]
Yes or you didn't run into the issue of him making adult choices even though he's a child. He feels like a geninine child character. I second with loving Vanna(edited)
Eightfish (Puppeteer)
I admit at first I thought, oh no, unrealistic child character, but I kept reading to see Phaedra. But then you really proved my first impressions wrong as the chapter went on
Also, Vanna
Vanna's great too
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Pavel has actually skewed a lot more toward Aang from AtlA. He doesn't have this grand destiny on his shoulders, but in terms of his maturity, and trying to see the good in things, that's absolutely him.
And yes, Vanna is absolutely essential to his character. I specifically wanted a scene where she had to turn on the mom face. Pavel's not perfect, even if he's well meaning. He still has to be careful.
Miranda
ya, maybe that's it. He doesn't have the weight of the world on his shoulders like most kids in shows these days. He just has kid problems.
copperine
I love Pavel, he feels very genuine to the world and his life
copperine
He feels very confident and naive at the same time, which is something I relate to (from when I was a child anyway) but I don't see portrayed as well and real-feeling that often
spacerocketbunny
Ok FINALLY JOINING THIS TEA PARTY, here we go: 1. Phantomarine has an incredibly solid start, from foundations to characters to motives, everything is so concrete and CLEAR. We enter in with huge stakes and high tension, it's immediately gripping and very effective! 2. So far is the introduction of the Fata Morgana! The chapter starts pretty tense and it goes from "can we trust Halea?" to "OH NO WE CAN'T AND EVERYTHING JUST GOT 100 TIMES WORSE" Wonderful execution on this scene, it's tragic and all the heavy hitting moments and spot on! Plus I love the FM's design it is just so GOOD 3. My favourite would have to be Halea so far! There's a lot of shifty mystery behind her and I'm super intrigued to see what her business is all about. Also would it be fair to say that the Fata Morgana is an instant favourite at this point? might be soon but have I mentioned that I love that design yet? LOL 4. Cheth and Phaedra I think is just a no-brainer there. The tension, the drama, the high stakes, Phaedra's conviction and Cheth's underhanded tricks, it's all there folks 5. The art is so fluent and feels like a beautiful whimsical puzzle that all fits together so perfectly. The environments are solid and thoughtful, the character's expressions are clear and amusing, it all just goes together wonderfully
spacerocketbunny
There's so MANY strengths for this comic, it's fun, it's beautiful, the pacing is impeccable and the characters are so strong and unique to each other. Everything about it is just so MEMORABLE, there really isn't anything I don't like about this comic. it's the kind of work that you can see getting easily adapted into animation/movies/WHATEVER it just has everything going for it honestly!
I'm not super great with speculating about events and all that but I will stand on top of a mountain to SCREAM MY PRAISE FOR IT
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
SPACEEEEEE
Would you actually like to know something fun about the Fata Morgana? TOO LATE I'm gonna tell you anyway
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
TELL US
copperine
YES
TELL US
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
So just before I had finalized the design of the Fata Morgana, @FeatherNotes(Krispy) had sent me this guest art for the hiatus
And I was like........ that's a freaking awesome motif I haven't thought of. Like a cursed halo.
copperine
a cursed halo.
@LadyLazuli (Phantomarine) yes
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
So... I had the mummy/bandage motif already set, but I knew it needed more. So I slapped some of those rectangles all over the fata morgana as... like... cursed jewelry that evoked the same mood as those divine bands.
SPOILER
ET VOILA
copperine
Omfg
That's incredible
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
I couldn't do a full halo, but I could do lots of smaller ones
I loved that idea so much. Like... black bone jewelry, mourning a dead king
And I was like SOLD
So congratulations. Cartridge directly influenced a major design in Phantomarine
copperine
God, I aspire to that kind of thing
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
Ditto......damn
and it's one of the best designs too....
okay...gonna try my hand at round 2
spacerocketbunny
YAY OH MY GOSH THAT MAKES ME HAPPY
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
9. I believe that Pavel will be that living soul that helps Phaedra find the relic. But here's the thing....he just lost his mom to sea ghosts. The question is that while he's usually really helpful....would a part of him be scared of the seaghosts, and in extension, Phaedra? Would Phaedra be positively influenced by Pavel too?
Furthermore, Pavel and Phaedra both lost parents in violent ways; Phaedra lost her father last year, while Pavel just saw his mom seabitten and vanish. I think they can gain solace/a sense of camaraderie from that common factor.
10. Even if she does succeed, she'll always have people try to kill her. I wonder....I really wonder....if she'll consider abolishing the monarchy in place of a democracy for the islands. Phaedra seems to want to save everyone, but like other people have mentioned.... what if she can't? I think she's going to lose someone....and if it's not her, it'll be someone
FeatherNotes(Krispy)
Ohhmyy gaoihhhgs that is so cool Claire!???? Im so happy that that inspired u to make....the Bae even Bae-er
copperine
@FeatherNotes(Krispy) you're famous
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
11. Halea seriously....she gives me the creeps. And I think the Phantomarine was supposed to protect Pavel and Vanna from being attacked or seabitten. But unfortunately, someone wants to silence them....and Vanna wasn't close enough to the phantomarine to be protected. I think as soon as she saw Pavel was still alive, she didn't like that....that someone who was seabitten hasn't been taken yet.
If she IS in control of the Fata Morgana, or specifically, CHELINE, wouldn't she want more to flow through the ranks. What if they found a treatment, or worse, a CURE for the fata morgana? Doesn't that mean their assassin army could be diminished? What if it meant, I don't know.... less power for Cheline? If there's one thing that the gods in Phantomarine don't seem to like, it's their power being questioned.
12. Deo made some VERY good points. Cheth strikes me as a trickster god....but he's also not stupid. What bothers me is that he's not an omniscient god; he is only tied to whatever the ocean tells him. But like Deo said...what if that's the point, to prevent him from knowing more? Was he banished because he wanted more power? Or was it because he knew too much AND opposed Cheline?
snuffysam (Super Galaxy Knights)
Man... I have a theory for something that might happen later down the line, but it makes me sad
Vanna returns as an assassin
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
I wonder if Cheth/Cheline have had an arms race and they are trying to outcompete each other....somehow. And thousands of years ago, Cheline won. Because she had a mortal on her side. But this time....maybe Cheth is trying to use Pavel/Phaedra as his mortal champions now, just like how the Greek gods used their champions in the Trojan war. Like someone said....Phaedra and Pavel may just be pawns in Cheth's great scheme of things, and maybe he ultimately wants to be free of his chains.
Also....who said that the relic ONLY brings back seaghosts? What if it can bring back Cheth too? Maybe Cheth is just using Phaedra to bring him the relic so that he can escape the sea. Food for thought.
@snuffysam (Super Galaxy Knights) with how the panels introducing the Fata Morgana seemed to mirror Vanna's face.....I think you might be right. And she'll try to kill Pavel.
It's a lot easier to kill someone if they're frozen in fear.
Tantz Aerine (Without Moonlight)
ok I've only read chapter 1 so far but I'm just bowled over by the sheer beuty of the comic. Going to try for the first round before going on to the next chapters just because I want to gush about it a little.
Deo101 [Millennium]
Snuffy... I had the same thought
Tantz Aerine (Without Moonlight)
1. The opening scene is an instant win. The challenge and how the dialogue naturally reveals the stakes and the strengths and weaknesses of both Phaedra and Cheth make for one of the best openings I've ever seen in a comic, print or web. Just amazing. 2. Favourite moment in Chapter 1 was the turning point- right after Phaedra won her bet, and how she crossed a line that leads to a pretty underhanded emotional attack on the part of Cheth. Master strokes. 3. As a favourite character I have to go with Cheth, though I like Phaedra as well. he's just so deliciously sleek and evil, and his shapeshifting and soul possessing are very entertaining- thanks to the wonderful art that illustrates it. Great work. 4. I haven't seen more characters yet than Cheth and Phaedra but their interaction is superb. I will be surprised if I get to prefer another set and not those two interacting going forward. 5. The art shines the most when Cheth does his thing with the various shapes he takes and souls he wears. Going to hold on answering the other questions until I've read some more.
Tantz Aerine (Without Moonlight)
Finished reading through, but it's 2 am and I won't be coherent answering questions. Gotta wait till tomorrow but I had to say, what a compelling tale. So glad I got to read it. Bookmarked to stay on for the ride. Congrats!
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
You're very kind. Thank you
Tantz Aerine (Without Moonlight)
6. I think there's nuance on and about a wide range of issues. From religion and faith to politics and bias, discrimination and the fear of death. Complicated, fascinating stuff. 7. I like how characters feel alive, each with their own agency. I also like how it might come down to a competition on who actually is the villain- don't want to spoil anything. 8. The comic's strengths are many- art, plot and dialogue deliver an engaging story with good suspense. I'm a sucker for suspense, so I'm hooked (edited)
Tantz Aerine (Without Moonlight)
9. It seems Pavel might be the living person Phaedra needs, with enough quid pro quo to keep them on the same team at least for a while. 10. I'm not actually sure. I'm leaning towards 'yes' but the story might surprise me. If she resurfaces alive, she will have to deal with plotters in her court for sure, and perhaps uncover truths about their clergy that will be ...let's say at least uncomfortable. 11. I think the attack has everything to do with their chance encounter with Halea, considering the warnings they were given. I also have this inkling that their connection to the throne might be a bit more complicated that the average islander's there, which is why they were told to run and hide. 12. Cheth reminds me of Loki a lot (including the male/female ghost wearing) so I'm assuming he pulled a prank or attempted something that potentially would break the world, or some such thing, which got him banished. I'd expect his goal is to escape his banishment, which might then make him more likely to be a big and deadly threat. The seaghosts I think are connected to him directly which is why he knows everything in the sea, or some such thing. But I'm still forming my own theory on that so I can't say I feel confident making any kind of guess on that!
Once again, congratulations @LadyLazuli (Phantomarine) I thoroughly enjoyed this.:)
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
7. I also like how it might come down to a competition on who actually is the villain
@Tantz Aerine (Without Moonlight) Ooh. Maybe there are still two! And it’s just a question of who is worse
12. Cheth reminds me of Loki a lot (including the male/female ghost wearing) so I'm assuming he pulled a prank or attempted something that potentially would break the world
@Tantz Aerine (Without Moonlight) The Loki/Lady-Loki similarity was something I realized far later than I should have. It’s totally true! Might have been a subconscious influence. I always thought the idea was awesome
And thank you very much again for checking it out!

Given that Phaedra is basically a ghost and Pavel is basically the only person who likes them, it is destiny he will be the only living person who can help her. However, my impression of Phaedra was that, at first at least, she may be overly concerned with her own goals and kind of forget that Pavel is just an adorable boy who needs help. So I kind of feel why Pavel will help her at first, it won't be a two-way street for a while. I definitely think Phaedra will succeed, but I also definitely think that won't be the end of it. Cause there's clearly a conspiracy to kill her. So sure, she may succeed, but then whoops have to stop corruption and the work is never done. As for challenges along the way, I'm sure there's gonna be some occassional Cheth's appearances of mocking. Mostly, though, I think it's gonna be protecting Pavel from the various dangers of the sea. I'm just gonna go definitive on this one with my theory. Halea is the one who had Phaedra assassinated and Halea somehow controls the Fata Morgana. And when she saw that whoops, maybe no more minions, she had Vanna and Pavel attacked cause they were clear threats of power. Cause Halea's power is entirely derived from the fact the sea is broken. If you unbreak the sea, no more power. So gotta maintain that status quo. As for the Phantomarine, I think it's more that in order to escape the dangers, Vanna and Pavel would probably have to travel far away from the safety of the lighthouses. I think Cheth just wants to be not trapped. I kind of feel like there's some unfairness going on here and that while maybe Cheth wasn't the greatest person, but also probably didn't deserve to be cast into the sea forever. And if I'm honest, I think it probably is what made the world worse than anything else.
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
Solid answers, all of them. Sometimes the strongest theories are the simplest ones
boogeymadam
Oh nO these ended up so long asdfg my bad 9. They’ll probably be connected by a shared-quest. They can help by retrieving things for each other they couldn’t otherwise. We know Phaedra’s gonna need someone to go on land for her and retrieve that Sacred Relic capable of reviving the dead, so I’d be curious to see if Pavel would need the opposite for some reason. Whatever the case, my vague theory on how they’ll connect revolves around Katja! Simply because she seems like the perfect friend for him (and tbh, anyone). And because Pavel seems to like quite a few Seaghost animals like Salty Joe..... and because petting and playing with a fluffy sweet dog is exactly what Pavel deserves Hurt?? Is a more difficult question. I would imagine it’s Cheth related. So far Pavel has shown a lot of sympathy for Cheth and could almost be considered a fan of him based on the costume he wore to the maritime fair. Meanwhile Phaedra has very personal reasons for despising him. 10. Hmm.. Maybe… All the twists and turns in the story so far have taken me by surprise so I really don’t have a clue what kind of challenges she’ll encounter next, or whether she’ll end the story alive. LadyLazuli doesn’t seem to be afraid of breaking reader hearts (and i say that with love lmao). Almost certainly Phaedra have more challenges involving her dad. I’m very curious to know more about him and if he’s as honorable as he seems. If she succeeds, assuming she learns about Vanna’s Seabite cure from Pavel, perhaps she’ll make that a more widespread thing so Seabitten children aren’t abandoned at the aquifier. However, seeing as she was assassinated (or at least Halea claimed she was) she’d probably have to unravel the mystery of whoever is out to get her before she can safely return to the living life, or risk ending back where she started.
11. My interpretation of the exciting latter-half of chapter 3 is this: The instant Halea learned that Vanna cracked the code to curing or at least strongly delaying Seabite, she made up her mind to have her and Pavel killed. For some reason she doesn’t want knowledge of the cure to spread. Perhaps so she has more Fata Morganas under her control? So meanwhile, knowing how Halea operates somehow, Garth gave Vanna the Phantomarine a means of protection, one that a Fata Morgana would not be able to destroy with a bone arrow perhaps. His reasonings for summoning Cheth are very mysterious to me, but I think someone Garth once cared for, this “Snowbelle”, may have had a positive-enough interaction with Cheth that Garth thought “yeah okay I’ll trust you to help my friends” :0c 12. I haven’t picked up on a clear indication of Cheth’s goals, so I’m pulling this mostly out of my bum, but I think it has to do with his skull. It’s on an island so he can’t reach it (unless the lighthouses go out apparently, http://www.phantomarine.com/comic/the-horizon-child/2-21-golden-feronia/ ) and Vanna makes it sound like something terrible would happen if he could reach it. His manifesting and wearing all these other souls, but never appearing close to any of the bonefish imagery makes me think he can’t assume that form without his skull being in the water, but maybe that would unlock some other powers too. Maybe that would undo the banishment, and he’d be free to leave the sea. Which is really funny to me that only once he unlocks fishmode, can he go on land lmao. What he’d do once he’s got that freedom tho, who knoooows I kinda think the relic Cheth told Phaedra of could be the skull, but it’s so... huge… Phaedra and her friends would have no means of getting it into the ocean that I can think of. Maybe they don’t need to in order to revive themselves though?
WAIT i sent that and it just clicked for me that seaghosts can go on land but Cheth can't so whether or not the lighthouses go out, that skull's off limits. but still.

DISCUSSION PROMPTS – PART 3
13. What are you most looking forward to seeing in regards to the comic?
14. Any final words of encouragement for the comic?
Don’t feel inspired by the prompts? Feel free to discuss anything else that interested you!
boogeymadam
13. most looking forward to meeting Phaedra's friends and learning more about the world they live in. Every place we see is dripping with character and a unique atmosphere and unexpected purpose, like the aquifier vs. the venue Vanna and Pavel were in at the end of the maritime fair. 14. It's just such an absolute treasure of a comic, one that is immediately so intriguing that I couldn't have stopped after the first page if I wanted to. (And with a premise and style like this, who would want to!) Its tone is whimsical and a wonderful balance of heartwarming and heartbreaking. Makes me feel nostalgic for old animated movies. Also the pacing great! Phantomarine can pour so much progress and into a single bubbly page and then others have thoughtful pauses that allow for plenty of breathing and digesting of that information. Aside from it being just overall enjoyable, it's also great learning material~
Miranda
13. Honestly, right now I’m really excited to see Cheth and Pavel interact. But besides that I’m looking forward to Phaedra and Pavel uniting 14. KEEP IT UP YOU BEAUTIFUL PERSON YOU! WE LOVE YOUR COMIC AND IT BRINGS JOY TO OUR HEARTS. But seriously. It’s a work of art and you are telling an amazing story in a spectacular way.
Ryccomics
I eschewing the prompts I cannot find them anymore. Good: First, love the art, and color scheme. Second, probably the best backgrounds I have seen in a webcomic, they useful for the telling the story. Love the crowd shots, and the people in the crowd being detailed and different. Pavel’s design quite unique. I really adore the self-contained story of chapter 1, it set up main character, their goal very efficiently, and at least temporary villain (we’ll see about that later). Chapter 2 and 3 I was little less keen on, now we are focussing a different set of characters, and I am waiting for the stories to re-converge. Although, the Vanna death(?) scene was very well done. Most of dialogue has this will matter later tone to it. I feel confident the story has a direction, and a route to get there (this very important given the nature of web comics).
Tantz Aerine (Without Moonlight)
13. I'm looking forward to Phaedra and Haldea interact. That should be juicy. 14. Just keep on going. You're doing great!
shadowhood (SunnyxRain)
13. I can't wait to see the lore unfold in Phantomarine. It's a world that I want to keep exploring along with the protagonists. And I do want to see how the crew would react and cope to being seaghosts and what that would mean for their relationship with Phaedra. And of course, Cheth. I want to see more Cheth. 14. Claire, your webcomic is amazing, and just want to say that you're doing a wonderful job with it. Please keep up the good work, and I look forward to reading and drawing shitmemes for it
eliushi [a winged tale]
Everyone has already said so much more eloquently of what I wanted to say! I also love the very creative use of typography and background art as Pavel ran through the house to escape in the last chapter. Excellent suspense and tension! As always, looking forward to more!!
Jiblish
Ahhhh I’m late but 13. I’m really looking forward to seeing all the threads come together and seeing all the tension that has been building up unravel. It’s always cool, in stories with different viewpoints happening simultaneously. to see them all crash into each-other. More specifically with Phantomarine, there’s so much we feel like we know and don’t know so it’ll be exciting to get more pieces to the puzzle about people’s true identities and intentions as time goes on. Oh, also, I hope my man Garth is doing okay haha 14. I’ve said this before, and people have said it here, but you can tell this story was crafted with love and somebody with the intense desire for good storytelling. It’s wonderful. Keep doing what you’re doing! We’ll be excited for whatever you cook up next
RebelVampire
I am looking forward to learning more about Cheth cause I really feel like there's something deep just under the surface that's waiting to burst out and scream surprise. As for final words, this is all around a beautiful comic with some really interesting lore with lots of detail and thought put into it. And I think that along makes it worth a read even if it's not your cup of tea!
FeatherNotes(Krispy)
Im looking forward to seeing how Pavel really develops. I've said in my questions before that I believe he's a character that has the power to alter and change the course of events-! I think he's going to really turn Cheth on his head with these next new pages too. Also, Fata Morgana is DEF a fave, i want to know so much more of her purpose in the cogs and gears that turn the story U-U All in all, i cannot express how much I truly love this comic. I discovered it a while ago and was instantly hooked with the visuals, characters, and power of story. There's definitely a sense that Phantomarine will easily become a classic amongst the webcomic medium, and that it's certainly a work of art to keep tabs on!
eliushi [a winged tale]
I love the comic layout, the colours and the theme of Phantomarine! It really feels like I’m watching a show since it’s so polished with great movement between each panel. I’m super looking forward to all the character developments and unraveling more mysteries
LadyLazuli (Phantomarine)
I wanted to thank everyone for your kind words before this Book Club officially closes up. I've jumped into the webcomic community without much prior experience or exposure, and I've been amazed by the outpouring of kindness and guidance from everyone I've met, including the people here. Thank you for all the encouragement this week - to me, Phantomarine's story is just barely getting started, but to know it's already this well-received is very affirming (and a little overwhelming!). I consider it my duty to deliver a satisfying story from here to the end, and I'll keep aiming for that goal until my job is done. Big hugs from me, and thank you very much for the feature! I'll have a blast looking back on this in the future

I don’t have that much advice because I’m still trying to get better at it myself but something i do is try to work with as limited a palette as i can (it’s hard, but it gets easier for drawing characters repeatedly, and it makes it less likely that the colors will clash with each other too much) Also, looking at ‘natural’ palettes from animals helps too (and then repurposing them into other drawings), just separating a couple of different browns/oranges from somethings pelt and using their eye color (usually something much more vibrant) as an accent color
I also like to avoid picking colors from the very edges of the color picker (from ANY edge, mind you) and I always pick slightly towards the grey range (or the desaturated range, if you will). it doesnt look like much but it makes the colors not look like youre eyes are going to burn out
a lot of people think that very bright, warm or cool looking colors are The Best for art and that you’re just purposefully making your art look dull if you don’t use those but... its really REALLY not the case. nothing out there is bright colored, everything we see tends to be pretty desaturated or mixed with other colors/reflections so their brightness gets toned down
knowing color theory imo is less about knowing what colors to use and more about being able to make your drawings ‘pop’ and seem bright without actually using any eye blinding colors
i hope this makes any sense :’)
Tumblr media
Aw man... this was incredibly sweet to read, I’m really happy that i had that effect haha
but yeah, man. Something thats definitely worth realizing is that no matter what, you’re making characters for YOURSELF. And you need to make things you yourself enjoy and have fun with
who cares if other people feel like you need a hyper fleshed out character with every 484895 of their story arcs and details thought out immediately.. and who cares about cringe anymore like who’s going to stop you from making a mary sue.. the oc police? i dont think so
just. make something you enjoy!! don’t let other people (or your internalized guidelines) prevent you from making all the cool stuff c:
Tumblr media
hell YEAH DUDE U GET THOSE PATCHES. LIVE UR BEST LIFE but also god i wish that were me........... i want snail patches :’(((
Tumblr media
thats me!! <33
Tumblr media
god yeah id love to get into game of thrones but its just so fucking long and people are so annoying with it lmfao
i want to watch a lot of series/movies and get into videogames but i just dont have the time or the money.
also for the record.... i want NOTHING to do with fandoms, whatsoever. i don’t interact with communities for ANY piece of media, and I dont think i ever will, i’d rather just sit in my own little corner and enjoy things for myself

Love, Kyoto Animation
In times of tragedy, the most powerful thing we can do is refuse to give in to despair. Right now, Kyoto Animation is hurting dearly from an attack by an arsonist. 33 people are dead, even more are injured, and the studio’s future is up in the air. But I refuse to believe this is the end. This studio has given me so much joy over my brief experience as an anime fan, and I know I’m not the only one who feels that way. They are a beacon of light in this often dark industry, committed to the power of animation like few others. So while the situation develops, here is my love letter to their works that have touched me the most over the years. And in the meantime, if you want to help out, Sentai Filmworks has started a GoFundMe that’s seeing a lot of love.
Kyoukai no Kanata
Tumblr media
There are few better examples of the power of KyoAni’s zealous work ethic than Kyoukai no Kanata. From a story perspective, there’s not much to this YA supernatural romp about teenagers who fight evil spirits for a part-time job, and the plot really starts falling apart by the end. But the way the whole show is constructed makes it such a fantastically entertaining ride that it’s hard to really care. I love the rainbow-pastel aesthetic, I love Juuki Hanada’s whipcrack-sharp script, I love the stellar action animation, I just love this show. That’s the difference that KyoAni’s attention to detail and commitment to cinematic storytelling can make.
K-On
Tumblr media
Let’s be real, you don’t need me to introduce K-On to you. This simple story about four dorky girls forming a high school band in their light music club was the tipping point that legitimized slice of life as a respected genre, almost single-handedly rewriting the trajectory of an entire goddamn industry. It proved the maxim that’s driven KyoAni’s work from the very start: with enough talent and effort, even ordinary life can be just as magical and meaningful as the grandest epics.
Nichijou
Tumblr media
To this day, Nichijou remains one of my favorite analyses I did for this blog. One of the best comedies I’ve ever watched, KyoAni pushes their budget to the limit here, crafting an explosive portrait of everyday life that treats its mundane frustrations and sidetracks with the bombastic, over-the-top, manic energy of Bugs Bunny on steroids and crack. The result? A cavalcade of legendary gags and top-tier laughs, with animation so explosive and dynamic it regularly leaves your jaw on the floor. Comedy doesn’t get more perfectly constructed than this.
Violet Evergarden
Tumblr media
Somehow, someway, KyoAni keeps topping themselves. It wasn’t enough for Hibike Euphonium to be the most beautiful portrait of everyday life out there. It wasn’t enough for A Silent Voice to push their talents on the big screen with stunning results. They went and did Violet Evergarden, quite possibly the single most technically impressive TV anime production of all time. With years in the making and countless frames of intricately detailed characters and scenes, the sensory overload of soaking in this world is so overwhelming that it’s almost enough to make you cry all on its own, never mind the heartfelt story of loss and redemption it serves to facilitate. Violet Evergarden is a testament to the power of animation like none other, the crowning achievement of a studio that still has the potential to top themselves yet again.
Clannad/After Story
Tumblr media
I will always be the biggest defender of the melodrama genre, and anime melodrama just does not get more iconic than the Clannad franchise. With nothing but a high school, a dedicated team of incredible animators, a washed-out color palette and Jun Maeda’s incredible three-hanky sensibilities, Clannad weaved a magical realist tale of lost kids finding themselves again, growing out of their fractured shells into the people they always had the potential to be. And then After Story pushed things one step farther by actually letting its cast grow up and enter the adult world, letting us follow their lives as they experiences all the multifoliate joys and sorrows life has to offer. The result? Tears as far as the eye can see, and an uplifting triumph of humanity to last a lifetime.
Chuunibyou
Tumblr media
Sometimes, you just want to be happy. Especially now when things suck so much, we need stories that can allow us a comforting space to call home. And my such space is Chuunibyou, the first KyoAni show I’ve ever watched. It is, put simply, the goofiest, warmest, silliest, most childish, and most endearing rom-com I’ve ever experienced. A full-throated cheer in support of the power of letting yourself be stupid and cringey and a treatise on the importance of imagination to influence our reality for the better, this show is a representation of why anime matter so goddamn much to me, buoyed by a main character who speaks to everything I aspire to be and one of the most adorable romances in anime history. It is happiness personified, and I will never forget how it first got me hooked on this incredible studio.
Hibike Euphonium
Tumblr media
But for all the many triumphs Kyoto Animation has had over the years, for however many times they’ve topped themselves, there is no greater accomplishment they can name than Hibike Euphonium. This story is the culmination of everything this studio has always been building towards, returning to the “girls play instruments” genre that first catapulted them to stardom with K-On and refining it into the single most moving portrait of everyday life to ever be put to animation. Stunningly animated, achingly human, packed with fantastically nuanced performances and triumphant moments of clarity, this story of a high school concert band’s struggle with ambition and the nature of self-improvement is a soaring testament to the reason this studio puts every single other studio to shame: because they understand that ordinary life can be just as meaningful, magical and massive as any story you could possibly tell. And Hibike Euphonium is the most magical, meaningful and massive that real life has ever felt for me. For that and so many other reasons (not limited to the single greatest lesbian ship in anime history), this show will always stand as a testament to why Kyoto Animation is the unmatched champion of the anime industry.

1, 11, 20, 33, 53 for three of your pick!!
goin’ with my two main dnd ocs and also antigone because i’m camp nano-ing and ironing out her story this month
1. Age, Birthday, Star Sign
VALKO. he’s 27 years old, born on the 23rd of the month of Rebirth (May), which makes him a gemini
BRYNJA. she’s 63, born sometime during Summertide (July), which makes her a cancer.
ANTIGONE. she’s 17, born sometime in the middle of her world’s version of august, so she’d be a leo
11. Do they have any notable features, like horns, tails, or so on?
VALKO. the scars slashing across the right side of his face are probably the most distinct features of his. but there’s also the symbol of pelor that was branded on his hand after he was chosen as his champion. that symbol has usually been covered up either by a glove or some sort of wrapping tho. it wasn’t something he advertised for a number of reasons and most recently, it’s been covered up because nerull did something and put some old-ass magic on it and the gang needs to head back to the temple of pelor and figure out what’s going on with that
BRYNJA. none that she puts on display regularly. she’s got her lightning scars in the shape of yggdrasil on her torso, but that’s usually covered up by her clothing and armor.
ANTIGONE. she’s got albinism, so...her pale skin and white hair make her stand out in contrast to the suntanned skin and brown hair the rest of her family has. her mother told her that she was “born under a full moon” and that she was “kissed by moonlight”
20. Clothing/Aesthetic
VALKO. function over form clothing, usually in dark greens and grays to help him blend into his surroundings. studded leather armor, bows and arrows, dark shadows contrasted by beams of light, open wounds, scars, bruises, wolves, thieves tools, wheat fields
BRYNJA. viking. so very viking. stormy skies, high reaching mountain peaks, battlehammers, symbols of mjolnir, eagles wings. dresses in blues and greys with silver adornments, hair half pulled into braids and half loose and wild
ANTIGONE. her clothing is pretty simple and comfortable: a simple tunic, trousers, and comfortable leather boots. though if she had her way (and if she had the money for it) she would much rather wear the fancy dresses and high fashion of the Obsidian city. but in general, the red/white/black color palette is what she likes.
33. How have they changed over time?
VALKO. god i could write ad nauseam about his character arc. but put simply: he went from sweet little farm boy, to an angry victim of poverty, to a cold-hearted criminal, to a self-loathing and suicidal vagrant, to a highly skilled adventurer with supportive friends and slowly learning self-worth and recovering from the abuse and trauma of his past. at the beginning of the campaign, his main goals were “don’t get caught” and “inflict as much self-harm as he can without outright killing himself”. now, at fucking level 18, his main goals are “be a better man that he used to be” and “stop running; take responsibility for what he’s done.” and it may not seem like a lot of growth but god it really really is.
BRYNJA. she went from being angry and bitter about her father trying to push her into following a certain path. and then she actively rebelled against that by choosing to be a cleric of thor, which was such a liberating feeling and then she disowned him as her father. and then she calmed down a lot after that and after she started her training with grettir. so basically...angry teenager to a calmer young adult....tho the anger still lingers and it’s starting to come back considering there’s a god trying to push her and her party along a certain path which...she isn’t appreciating
ANTIGONE. ah...i’m still working on this tbh. she starts off as a pretty normal girl stuck in the boonies with dreams of doing something more than just...farming and ugh...rearing children...then she loses everything and she’s hellbent on revenge. wrath is one of her bigger sins and she’s so ambitious but she has to learn how to reign in that anger and learn how to use her intelligence and charisma in order to survive in a highly politically driven place like the Obsidian Palace
53. Expectations vs Reality: what did you expect and what did you get with this character?
VALKO. i went in with the desire for a redemption arc and i’ve definitely gotten that (and an incredibly slow build one at that). that said as i worked on his backstory it just got darker and darker (which only made the redemption arc harder but that’s ok because both valko and i are masochists) so i guess i didn’t expect the amount of abuse and trauma valko suffered when i first went to make his character (obviously it was still there but just not...as much). also the whole champion of pelor thing. i did not expect that AT ALL let alone as early as that happened (like level 6/7). i had talked about maybe having valko take a few levels in cleric (as a cleric of pelor) at some point but i didn’t expect story to lend itself to it that soon. so yeah, valko as a champion and high status religious figure was definitely something i didn’t expect from this at all (tho i am very pleased about it)
BRYNJA. i mean my big thing with her is that i wanted a dnd character as different from valko as i could get (confident, emotionally open, not nearly as angsty) and that’s really what i got. she was designed to be as straightforward as possible and that’s what she is. i suppose if anything she’s more rebellious than i had anticipated. her backstory was written/finalized after we had been playing for a few months but as mentioned in the last question, there’s this theme of her not liking higher authority pressuring her into doing certain things
ANTIGONE. tbh she’s pretty much what i’ve expected so far. I haven’t properly written her yet, so i know she’s got plenty of surprises in store for me and i’m excited for them. I can’t wait to see what kind of monkey wrenches she (or any other characters) throw into things

Hi folks!
I’m hoping to a few more of these this month! I’m excited to share with you this gift! I wanted to get more familiar with Blender and learn meshing. I’m pretty proud of myself for putting this together!
Huge shout out to @plumbobteasociety for letting me edit their mesh! The swings are a mesh edit of their Sims 4 Garden Stuff Pack! If you don’t have their pack downloaded- I highly recommend!
There are two different swings and two sets of colors. For each swing, I matched the PTS colors and did a separate swing for @noodlescc Sorbet Palette.
Also, thank you @mdebunny for helping me test these! 💜
I’m putting the download below the cut in case there are any issues!

*These will not work on high ceilings or medium high ceilings. These will only work on low ceilings (unless you don’t mind the chains not connecting to the ceiling).
