modern day crime series, featuring a detective and an artist. The artist is a SAVANT who can basically draw ANYTHING he puts his mind to, but in the past it meant he accidentally got an undercover cop killed without knowing. A few years later, he decides to become a police sketch artist as repentance. Said cop was our detective's mentor, and he's still salty about it but OH LOOK, THEY'VE BEEN PARTNERED UP!

4. WORD OF HONOR

my favourite of the fantasy homoerotic dramas, and the one that inspired me to start writing a video essay about them. Two soulmates meet who are destined for nothing but misery - one is trying to destroy the entire martial arts world for revenge and the other is an ex-assassin who's chosen to die slowly as penance for his murders. Through each other (and their idiot adopted son) they find happiness, kinda. This show is part of why I liked Mysterious Lotus Casebook so much - very similar found-family vibes, except they start out as enemies in MLC, whereas in this they start out as reluctant allies.

two gods(?) forced to live seven different lifetimes together because of a mishaps, it's glorious, it's gender envy, it's enemies to friends to lovers to enemies to lovers to friends to lovers excellence.

6. Till the End of the Moon

Did you like Love Between Fairy and Devil? then you'll LOVE this show, which has functionally the same plot, except that the female lead KNOWINGLY tries to seduce the future evil villain in order to either assassinate him or stop him from becoming evil, it's a coin toss for her. A brilliant show with fantastic performances and some of the best costume design on this list (which is a high bar, the costumes in all these shows serve unbelievable amounts of cunt).

Do you have any headcanons as to velvette’s sexuality? Doesn’t have to be anything about a ship. I’ve been looking for wlw headcanons, and while I do adore Chaggie, I want to hear more about the other queer women in the show!

I do! I headcanon her as bisexual and aromantic. As I've mentioned before, Velvette has a complicated relationship with men. She finds men attractive and enjoys it when an attractive (and probably very brave) man asks her out, and they can have a good time. But most of the time, she finds them annoying, either too boring or too toxic. She has never met a man she would find as intense as her without him trying to dominate her. She finds those attempt disgusting and effort required to deal with men completely not worth it.

During her mortal life, she was too consumed by jealousy to truly understand how much said jealousy is fueled by desire. But after death, when she got rid of her insecurities and felt empowered, she realized how much she really appreciates femininity. She's aesthetically obsessed with female bodies but not in a creepy, male-gazey way. She doesn't feel the need to own or dominate them; she just wants to put them in nice, comfortable clothes that lend them the empowerment she feels and admire how good they look. She sometimes has temporary girlfriends, her favorite muses whom she likes to spoil with her money. But it never lasts for long because, like other messed up and evil people, she has serious intimacy issues and can't get attached. Since she doesn't have time, nor patience to establish relationships - even purely sexual - she sometimes visits Valentino's establishment. Girls working there are always happy to see her (though let's be honest, the bar is low) because she treats them well, and if someone becomes her favorite, she goes out of her way to protect her from Val's aggression.

Chiss Fan Survey 2023

Here's the results of the Chiss fan survey for this year! We had a huge turnout, with 464 responses! Here's a link to the slide deck if that's more accessible for you.

First some demographics: most people surveyed came from Twitter but we also had a pretty good turnout from Tumblr this year!

The majority of people surveyed still came from the United States, but we also had some new countries make it on the map this year.

Most people fell within the 18-34 age range.

As always, I love how Thrawn attracts the autistic audience. Interestingly, the same percentage of people said they’re neurodivergent this year as did last year, but the proportion of them that are autistic grew by about 7%.

Again just a disclaimer that these results are not necessarily representative of the overall Thrawn fan community as I reach a very specific demographic, but over half of the people surveyed are women and almost a third are non-binary. 20% identify as transgender.

About a third of people surveyed are bisexual or pansexual.

Another thing I love is how many people in the community fall under the asexual and aromantic umbrellas. Asexuality is the second most common sexuality reported on this survey.

There’s about 8% fewer single people and 4% more married people than last year so congratulations!

A new question this year is how people's partners feel about Star Wars. For most, it seems they’re the bigger Star Wars fan between them and their partner(s)

Moving on to the actual Thrawn questions, the majority of people surveyed got into Thrawn around 2020.

The spikes on the read/watch order graph show the most popular reading/watch order, so Rebels> Thrawn> Alliances> Treason> Chaos Rising> Greater Good> Lesser Evil> Ahsoka.

Most people had seen Star Wars Rebels and read at least Thrawn (2017).

Over half of people surveyed have read Heir to the Empire, and overall more people report reading Legends than in last year’s survey.

To get the book ranking, I gave each book an average rank based on people's votes and ordered them that way. Thrawn 2017 was by far the most popular of the books.

The most popular choice for a new book book was an "Eli Vanto in the Ascendancy" book.

Despite Ahsoka filling in what happened after Rebels, the percentage of people who are interested in a Thrawn and Ezra Post-Rebels story has not decreased and has in fact increased slightly.

The love for Thranto is very apparent in the ship portion of the survey.

There’s also a good percentage of people who don’t ship Thrawn with anyone, and then OC or selfships are also somewhat popular.

I included a reminder as to what the Thrawn Designs options were. Ascendancy Thrawn was far and away the most popular design for Thrawn. People also liked the 2018 comic version. Least popular was the Heir to the Empire comic design.

Despite what people may have expected, overall Chiss fans were happy with Live Action Thrawn.

In particular, they liked the casting and the dialogue. The most disliked bits were Thrawn’s storyline and inconsistencies with the books.

I also need it to be noted that more than one person wrote in that they liked “how cunty" live action Thrawn was.

Thrawn fans get involved in several different ways

Almost a third have made Thrawn art and 40% wrote something.

Several people went to the Chiss fan meetup this year.

60% of people bought something Thrawn related.

Books was the top item purchased, with over half of people who bought something buying at least one book and most buying several books.

Comics were also popular with the reprinting of the 2018 comic.

Martha is a serial black widower - or, well, she was. There's a long trail of dead vows hanging from her wedding band, tons of hearts of thirsty & lecherous wealthy men left 'pon on her altar to the delicious King Asmodeus ( 'the one true man who knows how to really please a woman.' ). The husband-killing stopped when Ralphie just would not fuckin' die! She tried everything; poisoning, concussions, hitting him with her car, drowning him after hitting him with a motorboat, and straight up electrocuting his ass in the bathtub.

She finally stopped trying when he caught her shotgun shells in his teeth. Man's hardy and is sickly, deeply, twistedly, and hopelessly in love with Martha, and she finally came to respect and admire that, even more so when she began introducing him to the darker aspects of her life such as cannibalism, human taxidermy, and ritualistic killings. She gained a partner-in-crime, true and honest. What she has for him isn't really true love as much as it is a very deep affection and attraction, and he doesn't mind, so long as they can keep on keeping on. They both popped out a couple of children, and the rest is history.

Excellent cook, excellent baker, excellent little house wife who serves up the image of a godly woman quite well. She saves face by going to church on Sundays just to spend her Sunday nights doing very special dark rituals. Duality of woman!

The idea of becoming an Overlord is intriguing to her, and it's an idea she is definitely playing around with. For now, her soul belongs to no one.

Martha is still very much into the Kings and Queens she worshiped while she was alive and even has altars to them! Still pays tribute and still carries out rituals in their names. That part of her isn't going away.

BATTLE BEAST's Noora Louhimo has shared a message in support of LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Taking place in June, Pride Month is a time when the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, their supporters, and allies come together to celebrate love, diversity, acceptance, and unashamed self-pride.

On Saturday (June 1),Noora took to her Instagram to write: "WONDERFUL PRIDE month for LBTGQ+ communities and everyone who agrees for equal love, self and sexuality. I hope that one day we could live in a world where equality would be the norm in all communities.

"As a woman, I unfortunately still face unequal treatment and a certain kind of sexism seems to be built into people's core behavior (which comes from home education) and some don't even realize they are sexist. Also women towards other women and themselves. For example, it is really sad to see/hear women criticizing other women and their sexual expression or showy appearance/dressing. EVERYONE'S OWN LOOK has been the only way for women to express themselves and their own values since time immemorial. The cloak of shame was not invented by women. Louhimo revealed in November that she had been diagnosed with a ruptured left carotid artery, causing the postponement the band's tour. The 35-year-old Finnish musician has since said in an interview that she has "definitely started doing more warm-up before any singing and warming down and taking care of my overall health even more than before." She added: "I really appreciate life more now. I'm thankful for each and every day and every moment that I get to live, I get to love, I get to see. I get to see people. I get to be with my loved ones and with my animals here at home. And now I get to tour in the places that I've always dreamed of. And it's not something that you should take [for] granted."

When Louhimo first revealed her diagnosis seven months ago, she wrote on her social media: "I went to be examined because of a weird pain in the left side of my neck, throat, ear and chin. At ultrasound examination the doctor found the rupture that had already started healing, and he saved my life. I was hospitalized for more exams and finally got confirmation of the situation. I was ordered to have a break on everything that might stress or increase my blood pressure for the next month. Otherwise, I could have a stroke. As you know how passionate I am as a singer and performer, the blood pressure getting high is a guarantee. So, I did not want to take the risk to die with my boots on, not quite yet".

I see blogs like this and I'm happy that you're able to reconcile being gay with Mormonism but how?

I am an ex-Protestant who used to be devoted. I think the Bible is very clear on homosexuality and it's not positive. Perhaps the 'boy shall not lay with man' verse was an error of translation—according to the argument that I've seen—but are you going to say that about the story of Sodom and Gomorrah + Paul's infamous verse, where he mentions homosexuals in the list of the wicked who will not inherit the Kingdom of God? The specific verse is 1 Corinthians 6:9.

Knowing what I know, I would feel very conflicted if I were gay (I'm bisexual) and seeking to be authentically religious. Now, if you're choosing to be celibate, then forget what I said.

But what about those who want to embrace their same-sex attraction and get into relationships/fornicate with the same sex? Wouldn't that create some cognitive dissonance somewhere? Jesus said that he will spit out the lukewarm, for they are neither hot nor cold and that he would prefer that they would be either.

That's why I chose to leave altogether. Without the religious blinders on, I can look at the text from a secular perspective and understand that the texts reflected their time period. That homosexuality was discouraged, not necessarily because it was objectively "evil" but because it would harm society or something to let it run rampant.

This was a whole ramble. It's just strange to see others just embracing themselves AND being religious, while I've had to battle with a lot of inner conflict because of this.

So, how do you do it without feeling 'fake'?

To say I've reconciled being gay and Christian is a bit too strong, I'd say it's a struggle.

One way I try to make it work is to really look at the clobber verses of the Bible that are used against gay people. I do not think they say what a lot of people assume they do. You're welcome to look at what I've posted about those verses. Here's one on the 'don't lie with man as with a woman.' You mentioned Sodom, a classic example of people reading it with the assumption they already know what it's about and missing the real point of the story. And then there's Paul, and people love to say he was against gay sex, but they fail to heed many of his other words such as that he wishes nobody had sex and if you can't hack that then get married.

I don't expect everyone to agree with those interpretations of the scriptures, but I do hope it provokes some thinking. Why do we accept the idea that being gay is a sin, but we disregard other things in the Bible that would crimp our modern lifestyle?

The Bible includes many things we reject today, such as slavery and women as property. Christians take Christ's teaching that the greatest commandments are to love God, and to love others as yourself, and use that to reinterpret what's in the Bible. Are things like slavery Biblical? Yes. Are they Christlike? No.

This is the community I was raised in. I know the goodness of the people, and I also know the cruelty that's been done in the name of their religious beliefs. I try to use the language of religion to counter the bigotry directed towards gay people and to show the overarching themes of the gospel are love, inclusion, doing good to others, looking out for each other, and so on. Homophobia and transphobia don't fit with those themes.

I'm glad you've had a chance to view the church's teachings and the Bible verses from a secular viewpoint and been able to remove that dissonance from your life. Most queer people leave Christianity. I think it's sad that when someone comes out as queer that people assume it's just a matter of time before they leave their church, because that says a lot about the church, there's a problem there and wish more Christians recognized it.

I can't fix my church or Christianity. But I can share my thoughts and story and in that way I hope builds some understanding.

"Painkillers. I think I must have taken every pill short of the ones they use for birth control. I mean, like, I wouldn't know how to begin to get pregnant, but I could deal with modern technology coming up with a treatment to ease this one pain that won't let me rest in peace sometimes.

I may not be anybody's prize-winning puppy, but I'm all I've got and I like to take good care of the old girl. It took me a long time to understand the kid and get used to my evil ways, but I came around, I like being a butch. I like being with other butches with our nicknames and ball games- women with muscles and pretty faces. I don't believe in bisexuals and cannot for the life of me find a femme. I don't like men and I don't let them fuck me.

For me to live in this man's world, I need some kind of painkiller, something I can pull out at a moment's notice and put between me and the men on the street, because sometimes, I could really kill 'em. They're just the foulest beasts walking on two feet and they're always in packs, just like dogs. It wouldn't be so bad if the women that like them so much would keep them on leashes, curb them, and shoot the strays, but the dudes be all over the place pissing and dropping their turds every which way. And even faggots piss on trees.

So, like, between the men and the dogs, I need some way to keep the weight off my head. I live in New York City, and we dykes may be everywhere like the t-shirts and buttons say, but there aren't that many of us running around loose and free. And I get tired of watching my back and front, and having to look sideways because these men are so damn crazy.

It's not like there's a neighborhood or a space that's all our own where we could have gone to, hung out at, and worked through our growing pains as baby butches. I guess a lot of us learned our ways alone and in secret and we still come out with all the different styles of butches. I really dig on how I can always tell another butch, even if she's in straight drag.

I know for me, I used to read a lot of books. They had this soft-core pornography in the sixties that I gobbled up as a young girl, with titles like Strange Friends, Forbidden Love, The Twilight World, and The Lonely People. On the covers there'd be these women looking very unhappy, like they were yearning for something they'd never be able to have. I could tell just by the titles which books were meant to be about me, and after a while, I knew that if the last page had a man and a woman talking together, it wasn't a happy ending.

It was hard buying the happy endings. I was in my early teens going to the counter with all the shame and fear that the man I'd have to pay would know what I was reading about, and by that, know what it was- something bad, a subject for pornography. I'd sneak the books into the house and wouldn't even want to share them with my brother, who'd been my first and best friend, and is one man I'd kill for still. I'd feel worse about myself, because he and I had always shared our various and assorted treasures like dirty books, but not these: I'd read them by myself under the covers with a flashlight and hide them under my mattress until Friday, when my mother would change the sheets, and on that day, I'd hide my secret life in the closet.

I used to buy the idea that I was "sick." The "sick" theory gave me some whys and wherefores about the way I had to take to bed to learn about what straight boys and girls are able to go find out with each other in alleyways, backyard, parks, and the movies. I didn't know then that what I was reading was truly the perverted version. That pornography was written for straight men- including all the psycho-socio-anthropological scientific bullshit studies on gay women were written by Ph.D.s.

I look back now and see where those books and their ideas rotted my guts and crippled my moral structure. The real crouch and limp came from the drafting of my people - women-loving women- as the whipping girls so that straight society could feel high and holy.

Folks can see the most honorable and upright butch bopping the streets, minding her own business, and they can have a righteous fit over her. We don't have to do anything except be our natural selves and some of these people will think they have a perfect right to use us as toilet paper and then go home to plot us into their fantasies. Men always do this to women any which way: wiping all their mess on some woman who is by herself and they're in a bunch in front of their corner store. After they make their little comments and noises, they're all smiling and at ease and feeling good and cooled out with each other.

If you watch the woman, she looks embarrassed and angry. She feels stupid and she's usually trying to cover that up and pretend that none of it affects her. Now if she's the type of butch who won't calmly take the shit, the men will have to work harder to take it to another level if they want the satisfaction that comes from wiping a person away. They have to go and tell each other that she wants to be a man, or they can act as if they just can't understand "freaks" and how, "If she wants to be a man so bad, why doesn't she come out and fight like one?" Then that dude's brothers can go into their man act and have the pleasure of holding him back from suppposedly going after her ass. They'll be soothing themselves while trying to pull this one and be saying, "Hey, man. You got to be cool, because that is a woman and when she meets the right fella, she'll straighten up and fly right." And he says, "Yeah, man, I just got all beside myself. Bulldaggers and faggots, jim. Hey: you know they both use toilet paper for padding," and they laugh and slap five and their eyes are shining. Their whole beings lighten up. They've jerked off and are relieved.

Okay, that's them. They got to feeling whole and healthy, but the butch-type woman who said, "Fuck y'all. You can keep your shit and kiss my ass behind it," is mad as hell and fit to be tied. She doesn't have anybody on hand that she can make sense to. There's no dog she can kick or make a nigger out of to transfer her shit to, so she's got to carry the load and steam with those juices, sweating it out alone. She probably takes it home and finds it in the mirror in frowns and frustration.

So you can see why I talk about a painkiller. I would like to have a pill that I could share with everybody fair and square. We'd all pop it and come the next day, the streets would be cleared of men, the straight women would loosen up, and the butches would be at least with each other. That's what I would call medical attention for a serious disease that's getting epidemic. I think we should give the afflicted hope: let them know: homophobia can be cured."

Kanon, unsurprisingly, has no interest in romance, and in fact, the very thought of it disgusts her. Even before her accident, Kanon knew she had no desire for romance, finding learning new things far more interesting. As far as Kanon is concerned, she would much rather have a person’s physical heart than any sort of love they can give her.

On matters of sex, Kanon has little to no interest in it. She does, however, feel sexual attraction on extremely rare occasions. Truthfully, Kanon finds her desire for sex irksome and would rather just ignore the feelings until it goes away. If that doesn't work well, Reika and Sakura are always there to lend her a hand.  

On that note, Kanon’s relationship with Reika and Sakura goes deeper than most are aware. Even now, Kanon isn't quite sure how to describe it, and to be honest? She doesn't care to label it. As far as Kanon is concerned, Reika and Sakura are hers, and she'll rip apart anybody to shreds who tries to take them away from her.

Reika’s feelings about romance are quite skewed. Growing up, she never really had a positive example of a healthy romance. It certainly left its mark on Reika as she has no problem manipulating people under the guise that she's “in love”. Even with any of her husbands, Reika never loved them. On matters of sex, Reika has experimented with both men and women, although she slightly leans more towards women than men. Nowadays, Reika is content with her relationship with Kanon and Sakura. To the point where she wouldn't even mind spending the rest of her life with them. Reika finds it hilarious that she’s had five husbands, and it’s Kanon and Sakura that she's seriously considering “until death do us part”. Something that surprises her.

Fusataro/Sumako... it's less of a one shot and more of an outline but. It's something for sure...

beCAUSE SOMEONE'S BRAINWORMS ARE INFECTIOUS

Fusataro at first is just annoyed at how Desir treats Sumako. Which eventually becomes protectiveness she can't act on. And then the underlying desire to help her is discovered to be a girl crush and she does not handle the lesbian epiphany of 'oh fuck, I know I like girls but this one...' very well.

She manages to play off asking to meet without their douji, saying it's just a social call. After all, they do need to get to know each other if they'll be working together.

She lies and tells her that she's meeting with all the evil douji masters like this.

It goes exceedingly well, they end up chatting about anything and everything. Fusataro learns that Sumako is actually not only fairly cheerful, but very smart. Sharp as a whip with certain things.

At the end of it, Sumako's kind of realized that it's a date. She likes 'him' well enough. It's almost painful when she comes out and admits that she's a lesbian. That she's really only been vaguely interested in Desir because she's never had anyone flirt with her before, much less such a feminine guy, so...

Fussa's gone quiet. Sumako is suddenly terrified that 'he' is going to lash out, remembering which douji he's the master of.

But Fusataro just stays quiet. She wants to blurt out that she is a woman... but the threat of ridicule or disgust from Sumako is one she won't test. Not with her upbringing. Not with the world they live in.

Sumako starts stuttering and blurting out apologies and that she had a really nice time and... Fusataro just sets a hand on her shoulder and smiles at her. Tells her it's no problem, but that she should at least stop letting Desir step all over her. She IS his master, after all.

Fusataro assures her it's okay. That she had a great time. She offers to walk her home, to which Sumako agrees. The talk lingers on sexuality, Fusataro saying she's bisexual, just has a preference for ladies usually, and they laugh together over shared experiences. They part on a happy note, at least.

Fusataro still chain smokes on the way back to her and Rage's place. Rage doesn't even have to pry for her to start venting to him. On one hand, her frustration and anger fuels him. On the other, it's so fucking annoying.

He complains about it to Paresse, who pokes Mizho, a known dyke, about it, who gossips about it to Kia.

Someone finds a way to subtly ask Sumako what she thinks about trans women, to which she responds that she doesn't care what a woman has, as long as she's nice and soft. She even shyly admits she's always been really curious about them.

And so the mission begins.

They're not going to just TELL Sumako that Fusataro is a butch trans woman, no, it's rude to out someone like that, they want it to come from Fusataro herself!

They try and plan a party to get them drunk, but one is, for some reason, always unable to make it.

Everything is going well, they're still trying to pair the two up during certain situations.

And disaster hits.

Someone has rediscovered an old interview with Fusataro from back in the band that brought up the fact that she'd been 'crossdressing' and her lack of denial about it at the time. It becomes a near scandal, though thankfully most don't care too much, it doesn't become mainstream and she manages to put out the embers before they can put her career up in flames. And it hurts. It hurts because she knows she's lying.

Under normal circumstances, Sumako would never even hear about it. But a parent of one of her students brings it up. Sumako has to fight down bile in her throat to not tell the parent off for how they're talking about Fusataro. She asks them to leave through gritted teeth, but has to take a moment to process this.

The tendency for recent tv shows and movies to portray bisexual people (men and women alike) as being secure in their sexuality from the get-go is adding to the narrative that bisexual people rarely feel conflicted about their sexuality.

Because is “everyone is a little bi” than actual bi people won’t ever feel conflicted, right? Right????

The reality is that bisexual people usually both have to reconcile with the fact that they like the same sex, and are attracted to both sexes This can be really difficult as a teenager and well into adulthood. For a lot people there isn’t just a switch in your head that’s like “I’m bisexual yayyy I will never ever doubt this. Yayyy I’m 100% secure in who I am. Yippee 🥳”. For most people it’s a difficult process coming to terms with your sexuality, and it’s actually quite rare that we’ve seen a specific bisexual perspective on that.

I’m not saying there needs to be a dark, troubled coming out story for every bisexual character that seemed to be the only story written for gay characters between 2000-2015. That type of representation/storytelling was a plague (especially whenever in the hands of straight writers).

What I’m saying is that bisexual characters feels as if they’ve lost all their specific nuances in the attempt to make happy-go lucky representation. They don’t really “feel bisexual” because often times they’re not written by actual bisexual people (usually they’re straight).

Cute depictions like the main character in RWRB should exist alongside more complex and interesting ones but apparently no one on this site believes nuance exists 🙄🙄
