The Long Walk to Tyre

Author’s note: I have written many fics for Got but I have not written any yet for you God. So here’s one for you, for your love to me on 24 September 2023. While looking for a comb, I found the hairpin

The Journey to Earth was not an easy one. Easy was an understatement. Who could understand the burden of being a son, His Son. But here he stood, confined in time and space. His very hands and feet that hung the moon and flung stars into space walked and toiled in the heat and clay of soil He moulded.

Who could understand? He was sent to His own but his own received Him not. The very bread He was tasked to bring to His children of Israel, it was spat out and rejected. Wearied and despondent, many would find it hard to believe that God would feel this way, like one of us, like a stranger on a bus, after a dejected day at work. Wasn’t the Son of God pictured by man in all Glory and Favour, but there He was, just spat upon and sent away by His Words, they found offensive.

“ Why do your disciples not wash their hands, do you Reverent One not teach them well ? They are defiled and have not regards for the Laws ! “ Day and night, they accused Him endlessly.

If their reply had been more wicked and intelligent, He could have endured it.

“It is not what goes into a man that defiles him but what comes out of his mouth do you not understand!”

Then He went thence, and departed into the coast of Tyre and Sidon. It was a long walk, a very long walk. No miracles were performed during that walk. It was a quiet walk, even his disciples were worried for Him.

“Lord, Lord, we have never seen you so quiet …”

But He did not answer them a word and continued with a purpose in the journey. He walked with a sole purpose towards Tyre, for one sole woman, His Father had spoken to Him

“My Son, go to Tyre with a sole purpose. Go quietly and discreetly and look for that one woman. She will refresh you”

That Walk took Him and His disciples a week, a week to arrive in Tyre - the House of the Gentiles. The House of the Dogs as the haughty and self righteous Pharisees liked to put it. He finally arrived.

“Quick. Hide me in a house, before the multiples receive news” And so he secretly went into a house with his disciples.

And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts and cried unto Him, saying, “Have mercy on me O Lord, my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil”

There was something about this woman’s faith that refreshed Him. She was called not affectionately but disparagingly-a dog. It hurt Him so. He would use little puppies instead. In fact, He was so hurt and discouraged by the words of His own He was so demoralised that He had spiralled to the depths of the sea - the coast. Dejected He could do no miracles at all. Could it be that He could ask for more and test this lady’s faith ? After all, the greater her faith, the more delighted He would be. Who could understand the mind and heart of God ? That deep down, the reason for earth was, was but … to be loved.

I … I just wanted to be loved.

In my House are many mansions, do I need to conquer more land ? Behold my streets are paved with Gold. Do I need more gold ? Behold the earth is but a footstool in my Room. But Who who can understand the heart and mind of the Lord ?

“Lord help me !”

And so He answered, “It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs”

He held his breath. Would she give up turn and walk away ? He found his human heartbeat racing. Unbelievable but He was rooting for her. Come on my daughter, say it and it would be done for you

And she said, “Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

Yes ! He found Himself screaming internally. She did it ! Of course they were all the Father’s children. The children of Israel were sent to speak of the Father’s love but they were but fallen flesh and blood and had twisted or not shown His Love towards “the Gentiles” that they have named so to discriminate and assert a false sense of superiority. Ironically, it was always the Gentiles that had shown more faith that the haughty “Children of Israel”

With her answer and hopeful presence looking yearningly at Him, suddenly He felt all the stress and tiredness fell off his shoulders and he relaxed in her presence beside Him

“O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto these even as thou wilt.” He broke into a big smile and lifted her from her humble bent posture.

Immediately she gave her thanks and took flight back home, leaving Him in awe and wonder at her faith

And her daughter was made whole from that very hour

With that He turned to His disciples, who were relieved to see Him being Himself again.

And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the Sea of Galilee, and Went UP into A Mountain, and sat down there

And UP in that Mountain would be where He would perform one of his greatest miracle, the feeding of the five thousand
