Tidbits about the lepom horror boys, Skull and Sugar 🤍
Some little facts and ideas about the Legendary Pokémon Horror boys, plus a better idea of what they are like! (and what they like to do with you <3!)
Read more about their home and backstory here!
Rock/psychic types, due to their species’ first typing always being psychic, and them being revived fossils which adds a rock typing!
They can both send huge pulses of levitation magic, as opposed to the smaller but more controlled version Sans and Papyrus can, due to their core memory of needing to keep the entire ceiling of a cave up long enough for people to evacuate. They can't teleport though: it seems as if that is a skill that has evolved when the guarded area became bigger: going from the mountain and its immediate surroundings to to an entire region, which is closer to a large country in size.
Sugar’s crystals glow in the dark just like the crystals littering the caves. Outside of the mountain this would make him stand out in the dark, making going outside a little unnerving for him as well. Inside it actually camouflages him completely with the caves though, and he accidentally jump-scared you more times than you'd like to admit. Or maybe he did it on purpose. You still have some trouble determining just how mischievous this dude really is.
Skull has quite a blank stare starting out, not having eyes or even eyelights, but he learns to create eyes as time goes on. He usually goes with a version of a duskulls’ glowing red eye, as they were the first ones to offer to teach him and they get along well. In time, other eyes may be added to the roster. I personally think you two should hold your own little private pokémon beauty contest and you should teach him to create anime eyes. Instant win.
Sugar is a great storyteller: his role in officiating marriages, leading rituals and tasks like that have made him great at speeching, getting people's attention, getting at the core of the matter and all that jazz. He loves to recount stories of how things used to be to the younger pokémon. Don't get it wrong though: he’s just as good a listener as he is a speaker, and he loves hearing stories and new info about the world around him. Just don't pressure him to find out about this new world too soon ok? Give him some time to adjust.
Skull loves listening to these stories, and still has some faint memories of hearing ancient sugar speech near the temple, surrounded by humans and pokémon. If he closes his eyes it's almost like he’s there…
Sugar, ever the multitasker, was also one of the trial masters of the area! Specifically in charge of the more physical puzzle aspects, Sugar was in charge of designing trials for anyone who had something to prove: coming of age rituals, trials to pass before joining a high ranked position, you name it! Those who wanted to prove themselves before they left the mountain in search of adventure would come to ask for a trial based on their strengths and weaknesses, and he would pour his soul into that special design. And don’t think that he’ll go easy on you: falling down is a part of life. Now what will you do, brave human?
Skull would help his brother with the puzzles. As in, he would use his levitation magic for certain parts, make sure no one gets hurt, and maybe give some advice now and then. His own trials however, would be the judge of character, and he would be a voice of letting people learn life lessons. If Sugar made sure that people knew that when you fall you always get up, then Skull was the voice telling you to reflect on your past and let go of it, decide what you want now and use that knowledge to do it. He wouldn't tell people what's right or wrong (although he was usually the one to kick people out on the rare occasion it was necessary) but he knew how to get honest answers out of someone on who they are and who they want to be.
Skull is an absolute cuddlebug, and Sugar’s love language is full of acts of service and gift giving. This pretty much means that Skull will often curl up around you and fall asleep rumbling some deep purr when he gets to know and love you, and Sugar will usually be cooking you up many different things, as they combine both of those love languages quite well:
You can create a cuddle pile with Skull and all your pokémon if you all need a rest, and he might transform into an even bigger pokémon to fit you all on top of him. Talk to him like this and you can feel him rumble out his answers, scratch or pet him he’ll be putty in your hands. This absolute sweetheart would even put energy into trying to regulate his temperature to make everyone comfortable. Hot outside? He cools himself a few degrees. Cold weather? He’ll warm himself up like a radiator. It takes a long time for him to (re)learn this skill, so do let him know you appreciate it!
Besides cooking and baking for you, Sugar would love to teach you some recipes too! Maybe even some medicines and local delicacies while you're at it! And he’ll be talking about what he knows about it the entire time, inquiring about your preferences and stories as well. He doesn't really have the energy to match his enthusiasm anymore though, so be sure to help him take a break and talk to him so he can sit back and listen. His loss of energy used to bother him immensely, but sitting like this, eating a dish made with a new recipe while listening to you talk about what has happened recently, it might not be that bad at all.
Skulls name plate actually went from ‘unknown pokémon skull, damaged by falling debris', to 'unknown pokémon skull, damaged', to 'unknown damaged skull',  'damaged skull' to finally just  'Skull', and I need you all to know that the kids in that town have a lot of power man. They change history. They pick fates. They tell the museum staff they’re being meanies and everyone's just like “Dang I guess you’re right let’s fix that”. They live in the perfect society tbh.

H!Sans and H!Papyrus: Skull and Sugar
Today it's Horror! Sans and Papyrus as legendary pokémon! Learn more about their home and the discovery of their fossils here! :)
Now Sans and Papyrus are from this long ancestral line of protector-pokémon, with them being the new generation. However, their family tree seems to be growing some odd branches…
You see, no one has realized that some of the excavated fossils actually belonged to the ancient ancestors of the legendary guardians! Not only that, but these two truly were pokémon of legend, having protected people during the cave-in of the underground and unfortunately having met their end doing so.   The names and legacies of these pokémon are unfortunately lost to time, but recently, a group of scientists has requested temporary access to the fossils for more accurate time dating, cross referencing their database with their DNA in order to determine their species, and collecting data on the fossils with equipment the museum doesn't have. You know, normal nerd stuff scientific proceedings.
What they didn't tell the museum staff however, is that these fossils would be part of a new fossil revival program. You see, when a fossil has lethal physical damage they can't be revived using the normal method as the damage would be perfectly recreated and would kill the poor pokémon a second time. Therefore, an experimental method was used: a mix of cloning and the revival procedure used for other fossils. And to their credit: it worked!
However, the panic of waking up in a place that looks like nothing you’ve ever seen before, combined with your last vague but pressing memory being the panic of a crumbling cave system and the urgency of mass evacuation, meant that Skull immediately broke out of containment, broke everyone else out of containment and then rounded everyone up for evacuation outside. Once everyone was accounted for they took off, and instinctively the guardians found the place their species once called home: Mount Ebott. The group burst in from the top and hasn't left since.
Skull has trouble speaking fluently and has a somewhat slower perception, and the hole in his skull is,,, well, it's in a weird state, obviously. It's not healed (it CAN’T be healed), but it's not an open wound he could die from due to the revival process. He clearly has some memory problems due to both the revival process and the wound, and he needs to be stopped from scratching at it often, as it seems to be a subconscious move.    The distress from it gradually lessens as he settles into his new environment: he has his brother by his side, and though his memories are few and confusing they are still a great comfort to him. It does however influence his ability to transform: where Sans and Papyrus can use their magic to mimic pokémon and humans near perfectly, Skull does not have stable control of his magic due to the wound, resulting in skeletal versions of whatever he's trying to mimic. It's... an adjustment, for sure. Luckily the pokémon instinctively trust him a bit, so he won them over despite everything. Speaking of which:   Skull loves observing humans and pokémon as much as the others of his species, and although he misses the abundance/presence of people and the holidays, he gets fulfillment out of observing and interacting with the ghost pokémon (who seem to recognise him somehow?) and the new species that migrated into the mountain after the incident. They are just as curious about him as he is about them, and his gentle giant demeanor is immediately rewarded by lots of attention from the younger pokémon.
Sugar used to help set up celebrations with everyone. Therefore, he knows the place like the back of his hand!! Or rather knew. Where Skull sometimes has trouble remembering the past, Sugar has trouble not remembering it. He keeps feeling like something should be right here only to find the spot empty or unreachable. He could be of great help to archeologists, but it is very confusing for him. Due to both this and his somewhat poor eyesight, the pokémon surrounding him help him navigate and are very supportive.   They tried to help him recreate some of the older celebrations, but it just isn’t the same without human aid. They all got an A+ for effort though! Which means handmade festival treats for everyone! He knows recipes long gone, but he can't always get every ingredient. What he does manage to make (sometimes with help, as his body does not always do what he wants) is loved by most, except for the bitter medicines he sometimes ends up making.   Sugar can regulate his magic much better than Skull can but he, too, has some wonkiness to his transformations. Namely, his form seems just a little stretched, and if you look closely, you can make out some crystal formations on the left side of whatever creature he’s decided to become. As he practices the transformations more it becomes subtle like glitter, but it definitely is still there. Despite all of this, he actually tends to use a skeletal form as well, in solidarity to his brother. “Look, we match!”  Their memories are hazy, but they definitely remember evacuating everyone from the mountain as it rumbled around them. Any movement in the rocks sets them on edge, and they check the walls for cracks whenever they can. Not finding evidence of current instabilities in the main area combined with the tales of the pokémon currently living there helps to soothe their nerves bit by bit.   Eventually, when they are calmer, they start recalling earlier, far calmer memories: bouts of laughter between siblings, the pride of the youngins who pass their trials, the kindness of a flower handed to them in good faith. And also the rougher, but necessary things: Tussling with each other, mending wounds with bitter recipes, distracting upset children with stories. The rush of fighting off alpha pokémon who encroach on their territory. Sleeping the tiredness off in a warm corner of the temple.   The brothers are quite content now, living with each other and the next generation of pokémon in their glowing mountain. Life is good.

Mount Ebott and the Home Museum:
Some lore on the mountain and its inhabitants! Including info on some very peculiar fossils ;)
The first and most pronounced mountain of the mountain range, the imposing and unclimbable mount Ebott stands proud on the north side of the Ebotti region. Many know of its importance, from the streams of melted ice feeding the waters below, to the cultural importance of the mountain and its once vast cave system. Let's explore this area together!
Mount Ebott cannot be climbed due to its hostile environment and the hostile pokémon surviving in its harsh conditions. Nothing grows on the slanted sides except for a few berry patches and some mosses and lichens, and there are huge areas on the sides which are brittle to a point where climbing it is not only impossible, but is actively discouraged to preserve the mountain. There are pokémon living on the sides which seem to be thriving in this environment, and might even be keeping this fragile terrain intact. Little is known about them however, as research cannot be done on the mountain. On top of this, the top of the mountain has both harsh sunlight and freezing cold, which ensures that only the hardiest of flying types can inhabit it. These pokémon are fiercely protective of this space and are extremely hostile to any intruders, be it human or pokémon. Little is known about any of the pokémon living on Mt Ebott, as research can not be done on the mountain. (Seriously, you cannot. We have tried. They will destroy the drones. They will bully our pokémon. You don't stand a chance.)   Located on the side of the mountain is a tiny village called Home, built near the entrance of a cave system appropriately named the Ebott Caves. These caves used to stretch far and deep into the mountain. Their glowing crystals would be carefully mined in one of the routes, while others are rumored to have led deeper into the mountain, where ceremonies would be held by the local community. This, unfortunately, is no longer a possibility: the pathways have long ago caved in, leaving only the entrance accessible. Many excavation attempts have been made in the centuries after the incident, however none have successfully exposed the old tunnels. On the plus side, the attempts have opened up the entrance area some more and have made this area safe to visit, and more importantly, interesting items have been dug up and brought into Home’s museum, where they are studied and displayed to this day.
The museum focuses on explaining the area’s history, showing and preserving local rituals, the mining history, and even the collection of some fossils! The fossils are actually an important focal point of the museum: residents are very attached to the fossils found over the years, and most of them have at one point or another gained a name and perhaps even a legacy among the people living in Home. A great example of this are the two unique fossils found under the rubble near the entrance, lovingly dubbed Skull and Sugar by the public after their excavation and symbols of the history and intrigue of the area.
Skull was excavated skull-first (ha), and has a sizable hole in its skull, almost reaching its eye socket. This pokémon's eye-catching skull (one that indicates a new species, as none of the species found today match!) was immediately brought in, researched and displayed while they worked on excavating the rest of its body. The name plate went through various stages of "unknown pokémon skull, damaged by falling debris” to “unknown damaged skull” to eventually just “Skull”, after receiving complaints from visitors who found these nameplates too mean.
About ten years later, a new unknown pokémon fossil was found, which shared some, but not all features with the earlier found Skull fossil. This fossil, however, had growths of crystals all over its left side, from the skull, over its shoulder and extending to what would be assumed to be its left leg or hip bone. After some investigating, it was decided that this fossil was most likely either of the same species or a similar species to Skull, especially since the fossils were determined to be of similar age, and thus they were displayed together. A naming contest was held, and after the brilliance of a genius 8-year old girl, the name Sugar was made official. The pair are center pieces to the museum and garner attention from all over the world.   Now, scientists were hoping that these and other fossils would aid in our understanding of what happened to make these once so important caves crumble, however the source of the incident itself remains unknown. The excavations do seem to reconnect the locals with their heritage, and they even seem to create a new local culture!   You see, the excavations of Sugar and Skull, although years apart, were actually around the same date, which was about a month after the yearly commemoration of the cave in and around the time of the founding of Home village. People enjoyed them so much that they have incorporated the skeletons into the celebrating of new beginnings and passings and, you may have guessed it, sugar skulls are a widely created treat, enjoyed by both humans and pokémon and made from anything as long as its sweet, shimmering and skull-shaped! Pokémon of the region:
On the icy top of the mountain: Vullaby, rufflet, swablu, spearow, sneasel,
On the sides of the mountain: sandshrew, spearow and sneasel again,
Near the mountain and Home village: swablu again,  regional misdreavus (local festival garments version)
Near the entrance of the cave: aron, zubat, regional geodude (they look only slightly different! Don't worry about it :))
Fossilized in the cave walls: aerodactyl, omanytes and cabuto’s
