I can’t help but feel like Shen Zechuan’s vindictiveness is only further proof of his gentleness and deep empathy. For a very long time, Shen Zechuan lived with self-loathing and hung onto this desire for revenge to live. But this wasn’t a desire to commit revenge for himself—Chen Yang and Fengquan mistakenly thought Shen Zechuan skinned Ji Lei out of revenge for torturing him, but they had no idea what Ji Lei had done to Hua Pingting. (All things considered, I think everyone agrees Ji Lei deserved even worse—if only that was humanly possible.) Even when he deeply hated Xi Hongxuan and Han Cheng, it was only due to what happened with Qi Huilian.
Fei Sheng found Huo Lingyun to be similar with Shen Zechuan, because they are both men who could be ruthless towards themselves. For the sake of avenging their family, they would even shed their human skin and become a scourge or a devil. But it is impossible for a person without empathy to be so deeply affected by the fate of another person—to be able to kill(sacrifice) themselves just so their loved ones can have justice.
Shen Zechuan is a person who does not waver nor hesitate to sacrifice his limbs or his life for the sake of bringing his opponent down—even Ce’an had to threaten to get himself flogged by shifu in order to get Lanzhou to be more careful—he may loathe himself, but he fights for the people he loves with all he has!! It is his gentleness and empathy that cause him to be unable to accept such grievances happening to the people he loves.
Bonus quote: (the only time Shen Zechuan was “vindictive” for his own “grievance”)

Working out Qjj side characters
Tumblr media
I’m using the character guide at the end of vol 3. Characters I am clueless of are crossed out.
Let’s go!
Cen Yu
Chen Yang - he suffers, gets drunk with Qiao Tianya and pretends not to notice when Cezhou are banging. Probably responsible for keeping Xiao Chiye alive.
Ding Tao - the cutie patootie of qjj. Fell of a roof once whilst writing about Cezhou’s epic sexual tension. Baby that might grow up to be an actor if he decided guarding isn’t for him.
Fei Sheng
Fei Shi - I think he got battered with a shoe? Or is he besties with the shoe batterer?
Fengquan - shady eunuch #525
Fu Linye
Fuman - eunuch that Xiao Chiye was pally with until he threw him under the bus for regicide. These eunuchs do be eunuching.
Ge Qingqing
Gu Jin
Hai Liangyi - Work is just pain and suffering for him. Probably will only feel peace when he’s dead.
Han Cheng - Whiny little bitch boy.
Han Jin - the cleverer one.
Hua Hewei - I literally did not know this was her name when reading but she is the queen of manipulating boys mummy issues for personal gain. One day a eunuch will 100% fuck her over.
Hua Xiangyi - The dowager’s niece, getting pimped out for the cause.
Ji Gang - Shen Zechuan’s second favourite person. No Shizun fucking here.
Kong Qiu - Not to be confused with Kong Ling. has good vibes with Hai Liangyi. They’re probably the only decent people in court at this point.
Li Jianheng - Playboy emperor, listening to his dick got him stabbed. Should’ve listened to whoever it was who told him to get rid of Mu Ru. I want to say Hai Liangyi?
Li Jianyun - he’s dead.
Liang Cuishan
Mu Ru - Got pimped out to a eunuch, banged the emperor then stabbed him.
Pan Lin - May have beaten someone at a party with a shoe or is the father of a man who chose a shoe as a weapon.
Pan Xiangjie - see above.
Qi Huilian - Dead. Taught Shen Zechuan everything he knows.
Qiao Tianya - Shen Zechuan’s assistant. Has to put up with Cezhou banging whilst getting drunk with Chen Yang. Will play the Qin with pretty boys.
Tantai Hu - Nearly got sacked for disrespecting Xiao Chiye’s wife.
Wei Huaigu
Wei Huaixing
Xi Dan - banged his sister in law. Helping Shen Zechuan get that dowry.
Xi Hongxuan - decided it was a good idea to take the emperor to a brothel. Worst hangover ever. Dead.
Xue Xiuyi - Clever man buying children from brothels so he can take over the world.
Xue Xiuzhuo
Yao Wenyu - pretty boy playing a qin
Yu Xiaozai
Jiang Qingshan
Yang Cheng
Xiao Fangxu - Xiao Chiye’s dad
Xiao Jiming - Xiao Chiye’s brother
Xiao Xun - Xiao Chiye’s nephew
Lu Yizhi - Xiao Chiye’s sister in law
Zhao Hui - he hates Chen Yang.
Zuo Qianqiu
Qi Zhuyin - boss bitch. Good at military stuff. Exasperated by the shenanigans of her father.
Qi Shiyu - Qi Zhuyin’s dad. Likes women.
Lu Guangbai - BABE!!!!!! Also sad boy gone awol.
Lu Pingyan - father of a sad boy.
Kong Ling - Literally was having the worst day ever this volume.
Lei Changming - Bandit
Lei Jingzhe - Cleverer bandit
Zhou Gui - Worst host ever. Famously managed to offend both Shen Zechuan (talking about his mother) and Xiao Chiye (sending him a woman) in less than a 24 hour period. Kong Ling would like for him to stop talking.
According to my calculator I have a grasp of 72% of characters.
I’ve retained more than I thought.

Chinese mystery thriller 'Under the Skin Season 2' announces premiere date
by Lily Alice, December 5, 2024
Under the Skin Season 2 has confirmed its release date for December 10.
Under the Skin is a mystery thriller that tells the story of Shen Yi (Tan Jian Ci), a portraitist, and Du Cheng (Jin Shi Jia), a captain in the criminal investigation team, forced to work as partners to solve a series of bizarre and mysterious cases.
The second season will continue to build on the core theme of the first season, "Revealing truths through colors, portraying the depths of the human heart." Through the outline of the portraits, it delves into the complexities of human nature. The Beijiang squad, composed of the portraitist Shen Yi, criminal investigation team captain Du Cheng, and others, will persist in unraveling the enigmas of human nature and pursuing the culprits behind the cases.
Tan Jian Ci plays Shen Yi, a young painter who resigned from his teaching position at an art academy and unexpectedly joined the Haicheng [sic] Public Security Bureau. Seven years ago, while still a student sketching on the streets, a stranger approached him with a photograph of a child, requesting him to create an image of what the child might look like as an adult. This drawing, however, inadvertently led to the exposure of undercover officer Lei Yifei's identity, resulting in Lei's tragic death. Five [sic] years later, burdened by a heavy sense of guilt, Shen Yi decided to uncover the truth. He accepted an invitation from Chief Zhang of the Public Security Bureau and became a portraitist for the criminal investigation team. Shen Yi's bromance with Du Cheng is one of the drama's highlights.
Tumblr media
Jin Shi Jia plays Du Cheng, the captain of the Beijiang Police Criminal Investigation Team. A decisive and relentless leader, he often operates unpredictably and spares no effort in solving cases, regardless of the cost.
Tumblr media
Baby Zhang plays He Rong Yue, a forensic specialist in the Beijiang Police Criminal Investigation Team.
A courageous, meticulous, and highly skilled forensic expert, she is known for her integrity and boldness. During investigations, she often uncovers subtle truths that others might overlook. Her keen observations and expertise have helped Du Cheng and Shen Yi discover crucial details and solve numerous complex cases.
Tumblr media
Her in-depth understanding of human anatomy has significantly contributed to cracking difficult cases. She holds great admiration for Shen Yi and, during their work together, often glances at him intentionally or unintentionally while handling cases.
Zhu Jia Qi plays Jiang Feng, a member of the Beijiang Police Criminal Investigation Team.
Tumblr media
A junior team member and loyal follower of Du Cheng, he is straightforward and outspoken. Although he means no harm, his honest comments often lead to misunderstandings. Despite this, he is immensely loyal and is one of Du Cheng's most trusted subordinates.
He harbors feelings for his colleague Li Han, but in her eyes, he is nothing more than a coworker.
Qin Hai Lu plays Chief Zhang of the Beijiang Police Department.
Tumblr media
A kind and approachable leader, she balances the sense of duty inherent to a police officer with the amiability of a good leader, while also commanding the authority expected of her. Recognizing Shen Yi's exceptional talent in sketching, she brought him into the department to assist the police in solving cases with his unique skills.
Fang Zi Bin plays Yan Tan Sheng, a detective in the Beijiang Police Criminal Investigation Team. He is highly professional, meticulous, and deeply committed to justice. Always willing to lend a hand, he supports newcomers to the team with his guidance.
Tumblr media
Under the Skin Season 2 will premiere on December 10. The C-drama will be available to stream on iQIYI and TencentVideo. Watch the trailer here.

Reading Update
[spoilers up to chapter 183]
BRO, I have been immersed in reading these last few days. I legit only do my homework and read QJJ 😭 I just finished chapter 183 and SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED???
Yes, that’s over 40 chapters since my last post but we don’t need to talk about that part. I’m gonna just ramble for a bit about general things that I adore.
First of all, Shen Zechuan’s squad of people just keeps increasing. I love how so many Qudu characters casually (not casual at all actually, it’s quite traumatic—) make their way to Cizhou and Shen Zechuan collects them like Pokémon. I was so excited when Yu Xiaozai showed up! Yao Wenyu really hurts me though. I honestly really liked Xue Xiuzhuo as an antagonist because he managed to outwit our protagonists on several occasions, but what he did to Yao Wenyu was just too cruel :( The chasing him down AT HAI LIANGYI’S RESTING GROUND? The assassins beating Yao Wenyu and later having him poisoned??? Like, chill out? Even Shen Zechuan ain’t doing all that 😭 And Yao Wenyu’s self talk is just so heart breaking :(((
Okay, now I’m sad. So instead, XIAO FANGXU?!? He’s such a fun character. One aspect I find really interesting about Xiao Chiye is that after he leaves Qudu he mentions several times how he separates his family and the Libei Armored Cavalry. And it seems Xiao Fangxu is the same (though perhaps to a lesser degree since he let Chiye run off for a bit to be with Shen Zechuan in Dunzhou 🤣). There are so many moments where I go “Yep, Chiye is Fangxu’s son”. They’re so silly.
The Xiao family immediately loving Shen Zechuan is so funny too. Lu Yizhi visiting Shen Zechuan’s place in Cizhou was crazy 😭 And her feeling Shen Zechuan out to write to the family was hilarious. I miss Xiao Jiming 😔
Chapter 161 with Xiao Fangxu and Chiye’s horse race was so sweet. I almost cried. They’re both so petty but MAN are the Xiaos romantic 🥹
There are too many things I could write about! This story is just so incredible!
Learning about Bai Cha??? She’s such an incredible character and the way the story slowly showed more and more about her until we’re learned the absolute girl boss she is! The whole Dunzhou trip arc was just perfect from start to finish. I’m truly in awe at how a human being can create a story so incredible.
I’m honestly itching to read ever more as I write this but there’s no way I can leave without mentioning how dang cute Cezhou are 😭😭😭 Everytime they’re together I get butterflies. The way Shen Zechuan can relax around Chiye is sooooo great 😩 Even when Xiao Chiye is (rightfully) upset with Shen Zechuan for not taking care of himself, Shen Zechuan tries to act all cute so he’ll stop being mad. And Shen Zechuan verbally telling Chiye he loves him for the first time had me tearing up 🥺 Chapter 164 in general is so sweet and vulnerable.
Xiao Chiye snitching to Ji Gang in chapter 144 was both silly and cathartic because Shen Zechuan not taking his safety serious is a very real issue! Fei Sheng having to essentially babysit Shen Zechuan is absolute gold 👌
Oh Fei Sheng, my beloved! I care him so hard.
Uh, what else? The fights are really cool. Every time Shen Zechuan pulls up on the battlefield I get so hyped 😤 The fights are choreographed so well! I shouldn’t be suprised but I’m always left in awe by how incredible they are! And the fact that the author isn’t scared to let people get hurt or even lose?!? It makes every blow carry so much weight!
Xiao Chiye vs Hasen had me stressing so bad 😫 And the lasting impact it has on Chiye is phenomenal. Shen Zechuan vs Lei Jingzhe (for the second time lol) was so sick. Shen Zechuan’s monologue gave me chills. And Xiao Chiye “returning” Tantai Hu and the other old Dunzhou garrison troops seriously wrecked me. I love Tantai Hu! I know he’ll make Master proud!!!
I love that we get more insight on Xiao Chiye and Shen Zechuan’s mental states! Shen Zechuan keeps secrets from Xiao Chiye because he doesn’t want to worry him, but Chiye does the same thing >:( I understand why they do it, but it still hurts to read.
Also also Yan Heru is so silly. Though I felt kinda bad when its made clear Shen Zechuan doesn’t like him because a lot of people did die because this kid is kinda crazy 😗 I was more caught up in how eccentric he is that I completely forgot about the whole financially supporting bandits and starving the people for profit stuff (amongst other things). I still can’t help but have a soft spot for him though because he’s so silly? Like, he’s so unserious 🗿
Okay, actual last thing before I log off: I think it’s INSANE that Shen Zechuan is out here calling Xiao Chiye his husband in front of their enemies while Ji Gang still doesn’t know 👁️👄👁️ I don’t think we’ve seen Shen Zechuan even think about telling him 😭 He’s BEEN planning about taking Ji Gang to Dajing but still hasn’t told him (Ji Gang being sus about their relationship in chapter 183 is so funny)
The military stuff is really cool too but I ain’t getting into all that. Just know I deeply appreciate the Qi Zhuyin content 🙂‍↕️💖 Keep it coming 🗣🗣🗣

LMK AU's I intend to write at some point:
1. Bakery AU - More Slice-of-life than action/adventure. Follows Macaque after being resurrected by Lady Bone Demon and her General, The Mayor.
Synopsis: Instead of Macaque throwing the key away and going after Sun Wukong, he instead convinces LBD and her lackey to let him recuperate so he can create them both new bodies with shadow magic and effectively make them both Celestial Primates. He does this, but adds a caveat that he can't be harmed by what is basically his own magic. He then takes off to Europe with the two new adolescent Celestial monkeys in tow. After a few hundred years of odd jobs, Macaque meets a woman Lin Moniang (Mazu), who helps run a lighthouse and whose older brothers run a bakery. After falling in love with her, Macaque; LBD and The Mayor all assist with the bakery.
Character Names:
The Six Earred Macaque - Renamed Zao Yueliang. He's the "oldest" of the group of Celestial Primates, being physically around his 20's.
The Ancient Lady White Bone Demon - Renamed Qiao Guniang. She's the youngest now, being physically around 11, and she hates it. She would've killed Macaque after being released and placed into her new body, but both she and Wu Dan found out real quick that neither of them hold the Six Earred Macaque's leash.
The Mayor - Renamed Wu Dan. He's definitely in the middle though he and his Lady-turned-little-sister don't know why that is. At least not while they're on the run from Wukong. He's physically 15 years old and so annoyed with it. He tried to help his Lady kill Macaque, but their new bodies began to desolve back into the shadows.
Secondary Character Names:
Lin Mei (Beautiful Forest) - Macaque and Moniang's eldest. In canon, she would have been LBD's host.
Lei Sheng Paishou (Thunder Clap) - Known as Rumble in the playsets. The eldest of Macaque and Moniang's twins.
Shandian (Lightening Bolt) - Known as Savage in the playsets. The youngest of Macaque and Moniang's twins.
Characters Possibly Only Mentioned by Name:
Lin Moniang - A shamaness turned sea goddess, and protector of sailors. Her Red Light Lantern compliments Macaque's Shadow Lantern
Lin Tingjue - Moniang's "brother", a powerful demon who can hear for great distances. He likes baking savory pastries and breads.
Lin Yankan - Moniang's "brother", a powerful demon who can see for great distances. He likes baking sweet treats.
MK/Xiaotian - The Monkie Kid, Sun Wukong's successor.
Chef Zhu/Pigsy - Owner of Pigsy's Noodles, MK's boss, and reluctant (and somewhat incompetent father figure)
Tang Sanzang - A teacher of myths and legends at Megapolis University and a frequent "customer" at Pigsy's Noodles
Mei Long - MK's best friend and partner in crime
Sandy and Mo - Pigsy's old friend and his therapy cat
Sun Wukong - The Monkey King.
Guanyin - Goddess of Mercy
Erlang Shen - A General in Heaven's Army and the Jade Emporer's nephew
Nezha -
Demon Bull King - Otherwise known by his friends and enemies alike as DBK
Princess Iron Fan - Tieshan Gongzhu, or PIF. A Rakshasa warrior princess who lives in the Flaming Mountains to the north of Taklamakan Desert with her son and husband. She is the fifth daughter of deceased King Ravana of the island kingdom of Lanka and the Queen Mother of the West's niece.
Redson - DBK and PIF's heir and only child
Spider Queen - A female spider demon. She is the oldest of her sisters.
Changed Spider Queen's Retinue. All, but Syntax, are female now.
Wood Spider (taking the place of Huntsman) - A female spider demon, the second eldest and second in command. She helps SQ with her plans even when she thinks they're a bit too far-fetched.
Joro (taking the place of Strong Spider) - A female spider demon whose thinness belies her strength in combat against the Monkie Kids
Phantom Spider - A female spider demon with an attitude. She's SQ's chosen heir. She has a one-sided attraction to MK.
Syntax - The only male spider "demon". He used to be a human scientist that worked for SQ, but had the liquid mutagen he'd developed for SQ and his Spider-bots turned on him. He's smaller and weaker than any of the girls. Joro and Wood take great delight "teasing" about eating him.
How close to canon!LMK, on a scale of 1 to 10; with 1 being not very canon, is this? Depending on length: short one or two chapters, it's at best a 2. If I write it out all the way, it's an 8.5 with Spider Queen and DBK being the primary antagonists.
Is there shipping? Some background ships are IronBull; FreeNoodles; Joro/Syntax/Wood and maybe some variations on Chimera. The only ShadowPeach is Past!ShadowPeach.

Summary:
The story behind the pilot episode of Journey to the West "The Kingdom of the Black Chicken" If you were to ask which episode of "Journey to the West" was aired first, you would definitely say without hesitation that it was when the Monkey King first came out. In fact, the real first episode was "The Kingdom of the Black Chicken". This was an episode of trial filming in July 1982. The episode was broadcast on CCTV on October 1, 1982. It is said that after the broadcast, the response from the audience was still great, but the crew of Journey to the West thought it was very unsuccessful.
In the 1986 version of Journey to the West, Tang Monk wore a Five Buddha crown and a brocade cassock. However, during the trial filming in 1982, the crew in Yangzhou had not yet finished making the Five Buddha crown and cassock. Therefore, they could only prepare them for Tang Monk. He bought a set of casual clothes, which was an ordinary monk's hat and robe. At the beginning of the trial, Tang Monk walked into Baolin Temple wearing this outfit. The real and fake Tang Monk: played by Wang Yue, played by Chi Chongrui in the remake.
The deleted section of "Chenjiazhuang" in Episode 25 "Bo Sheng Bliss" At that time (1982-1988), due to lack of funds, the crew did not film five episodes of the story including "Dangerous Crossing of Tongtian River", but the episode of "Tongtian River" has many connections with the last episode:
Among them, the specific plot of "Life Saving Temple" is: the master and apprentice dried the scriptures and came to a temple, and found that the statues of their four masters and apprentices were enshrined inside. It turned out that this was Chenjiazhuang's gratitude to Master Tang Monk for fighting the carp spirit in Tongtian River. , the "Lifesaving Temple" built to save a pair of children of the Chen family enshrines incense. The four masters and apprentices were about to leave when they met Chen Qing and his wife who came to collect incense. Under the warm invitation, Master Tang and his disciples came to Chenjiazhuang to have an evening meal. The people in the village were very grateful to the four masters and disciples. In the evening, Master Tang and his disciples were in a hurry and did not want to disturb the people of Chenjiazhuang too much, so they left quietly.
The first eleven episodes were broadcast on February 3, 1984, "The Plan to Harvest Zhu Bajie" and "Three Strikes of Bone Demons", and the first eleven episodes were broadcast during the Spring Festival in 1986. The ending song "Dare to Ask Where is the Way" was sung by Zhang Baomo. In 1986, he completed the filming of "Lotus Cave", "Destroying Demons and Black Roosters" (remake), "Battle of the Red Boy", "Battle of Three Monsters", "Qu Jing Daughter's Kingdom", "Three-Tune Banana Fan", "Sweeping" There are nine episodes in "The Pagoda Discriminates Strange Injustices", "Wandering into Xiaoleiyin" and "Sun Houqiao Practices Medicine". In 1987, five episodes of "Falling into the Pansi Cave", "Four Explorations into the Bottomless Cave", "Jade Continent", "Tianzhu Collecting the Jade Rabbit" and "Bossing into Paradise" were completed. Starting from February 1, 1988, all the first 25 episodes were broadcast.

Dude is such a strategic thinker that he can't help but even plot his marriage. Once he saw an opportunity, he grabbed it and ran off with zero hesitation. He was doing all he could to snare her and was absolutely shameless in herding her towards his trap.
I adore him.
