~An Attempt~

Dear Void,

I know that you are here, and yet nothing is happening.

I expected a response.

I know I am a loner, mourning nothing in particular, a witch and her familiar in one.

But I expected without expecting to expect. I wanted SOMETHING TO HAPPEN. Something magical. A fomenting of response, a rebellion. A trickle. At least one soul reaching out.

I suppose it has to do with the lack of real community in the art world. Always these so-called “community members” tell me they're so interested my weekly meditative gathering of healing, but attendance has never summited one. It’s painfully transparent: these selfish australopiths claim to support each other, but when the opportunity is theirs for the taking, to come together for communal healing, they are nowhere to be found. I may as well be shouting at you, dear Void.

Perhaps my distress is misplaced. I am suffering greatly at work, under the persecution of management, suffocating in the stifling straightjacket of performed competence. I was sent home for wearing my caftan to work, although the dress code clearly states free expression as their priority. How could they ask for free expression when what they want is “automaton chic”? It is a reality removed from the ultimate expression of being, another way of covering oneself, of hiding. I am purely authentic, and therefore purely reviled.

Real living humans MUST know I am here. You’d think that people would be more supportive of this blog, even though I so far have refused to participate in data collecting schemes such as Facebook or Myspace. I know that I have been seen as too intense, even a conjurer. I have heard that my work is perhaps unrelatable. I have heard the words “overwrought” and “precious” used when leaving my showings. I turned to you, Dear Void, and your infinite capaciousness, in the hope that here at last I would find untamed wilds vast enough to contain my visions.

I will persevere. I began an instagram account today (@celineismovedtomove) as an attempt at outreach — a way to let the Community know of my labor. It is my positive action to create community despite the trials. Perhaps that will help me to withstand the force of my own longing for a tribe, for sometimes I fear I will be entirely swept away.

It is at least an attempt.
