If Meyer had had Bella end up with Jacob, do you think she'd have Edward end up with THEIR kid? Nessie isn't Nessie without genes from both Bella and Edward so Jacob wouldn't ever meet her and imprint. But Edward could certainly meet a future Bellob kid. Do you think that Meyer would ever write Edward getting over Bella at all? Or would he be alone and miserable forever? What would MEYER write, if she'd really loved Jacob more than Edward but still loved Edward?

Oh, yeah, that sounds like something she would do. 

Bella never jumps on the cliff in New Moon, so there’s no Volterra Adventure. Edward does come back eventually just to check on her, and sees her . . . maybe not happy but functioning, thanks to Jacob and he is like good, good, this is what was supposed to happen, I will go off and never darken her door with my damned presence ever again (except, he does, he keeps tabs on her over the years; watches out for her, sends money mysteriously when she needs it, etc). But the Cullens are like “dude you are torturing yourself you gotta let this go” (that was Emmett specifically, obviously) and Edward’s like “NO MY PURPOSE FOR ETERNITY WILL BE TO WATCH OUT FOR HER AND HER FUTURE CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN LIKE A GUARDIAN ANGEL IT IS THE ONLY THING KEEPING ME FROM LONGING FOR OBLIVION!” and they’re like “. . . okay but maybe try to be more subtle with the money you keep throwing at her she can only have so many long lost relatives die and leave a mysterious inheritance she has to have figured out its you.” “THAT IS A FAIR CRITIQUE, THANK YOU.” 

I feel like J/B would date as teens for a bit but ultimately break up (because most people don’t end up with who they dated in high school) and Bella goes off to college. But after college she comes back to open a bookstore or something and they reconnect and they’ve done their growing and maturing and they fall in love for real this time. Because Bella is spending most of her time with Jacob in La Push now, Edward cannot physically go there to check on her, so he backs off, monitoring her through Alice’s visions (which are patchy because Jacob) and like, social media posts. 

Eventually he hears they’ve married and had a daughter (whom Bella tried to name Saranee and Jacob was like “’Sarah Renee’ is fine, Bells.”) and then maybe a few more kids (twins Charlotte “Charlie” Black and Willa Black). Edward sinks deeper into his funk and Esme and Carlisle move the family to Europe or something to try and distract him and give him more distance. 

And then 20 years later, they just so happen to be going to the same college as Sarah Renee Black (was that you, Alice?). Edward catches a scent that is almost familiar, but doesn’t make his throat burn. A mind that is quiet and muffled but not completely silent. The same chocolate brown eyes. . . 

Bella and Jacob having to deal with their daughter falling in love with Edward Cullen would just be a minefield of angst and just desserts. SM would probably write them being either bizarrely cool with it or over-the-top I FORBID YOU FROM SEEING THAT BOY! But it would be really interesting because unlike Charlie they ABSOLUTELY know everything about what’s actually going on, and as adults themselves could clearly see how 17 years old that vampire actually still is.

“Bella, I left you so that you could have a happy, human life and not lose your soul to become what I am, and I am gladdened to see how full your life is with Jacob Black.”

“Cool, but now you want to date my daughter!?!”

“Sarah is my life now.”

“Heard that before.”
