For a few years I wondered why none of my Christmas trees smelled the same way the ones I had as a kid always did. Was it because I was buying smaller trees?!
Nope.
So here's the thing: growing up, our trees all had incandescent Christmas lights on them. Not the big fat outdoor bulbs, the little ones.
They warm up. That's why fire departments are constantly on you to keep your (real) trees well-watered. Those light bulbs get hot. We turned off the lights at night out of worries about fires.
BUT: the heat from the lights helped disperse the scents in the needles! Like covering a tree in tiny oil warmers!
I've had LED lights on the Christmas tree for like ten years now. They're a little pricier up front (or they used to be?) but they save money in the long run. Their bulbs almost never burn out. They use so little electricity I can plug them in and leave them on for the entire month (...or longer) without worrying about the electrical bill or any fires! (We don't have a fireplace and the tree is also nowhere near a heat source.)
But LED lights do not warm up. At all. And that's why I couldn't smell my Christmas trees.
ANYWAY. I FOUND A SOLUTION. Which is candles. The problem is that very very few candles that claim to smell like Christmas tree actually do.
So far the only candle I've found that makes my house smell like Actual Christmas Tree is by Soap and Paper Factory, in the scent "Roland Pine." It claims to smell like "Siberian fir, pine, and cilantro" but imho it smells like "noble fir with incandescent bulbs on it." YMMV.
They do have the scent in formats other than candle; it looks like they have those reed diffusers, oil, potpourri, and even soap and lotion!
It's all over here! (But I know you can get the candles, at least, on amazon.)

Integrating Sphere in Optical Measurements: Structure, Application, and Maintenance
Tumblr media
Introduction: An integrating sphere, also known as a photometric sphere or luminous sphere, is a hollow spherical device used for optical measurements. Its design incorporates one or more ports on the sphere’s surface for light input and placement of light-receiving devices. Structure and Characteristics of Integrating Spheres: Sphere Shell and Deviation Requirements: • An integrating sphere consists of a complete spherical shell, with its inner surface maintaining a good spherical shape. • Deviation requirements for the ideal spherical surface generally do not exceed 0.2% of the inner diameter. Inner Surface Coating Material: • The inner surface of the integrating sphere is coated with an ideal diffuse reflecting material to ensure multiple reflections of light on the inner surface, resulting in uniform illumination. • Common diffuse reflecting materials include magnesium oxide (MgO) and barium sulfate (BaSO₄), which are sprayed onto the inner surface after being mixed with a resin binder. • The spectral reflectance of magnesium oxide coatings typically exceeds 99% within the visible spectrum range. Aperture Ratio: • To improve measurement accuracy, the aperture ratio of the integrating sphere should be as small as possible. • The aperture ratio is defined as the ratio of the area of the ports on the integrating sphere to the total inner surface area of the sphere. Applications of Integrating Spheres: Integrating spheres find wide applications in the field of optical measurements, including: • Light source measurements: Integrating spheres can accurately measure the total luminous flux of light sources by uniformizing their light intensity. • Optical properties measurement of materials: Integrating spheres can be used to measure the reflectance and transmittance of materials. • Photometry measurements: Utilizing integrating spheres, one can measure the luminous distribution of light sources, providing a uniform illumination environment. Steps for Measurement Using an Integrating Sphere Spectral Analysis System: Measurement Steps: Standard Lamp Measurement: • Place a standard lamp inside the integrating sphere and illuminate it. • Read the spectral data of the standard lamp as a reference. Sample Measurement: • Replace the standard lamp with the sample to be tested and illuminate it. • Read the spectral data of the sample lamp. Self-absorption Correction: Perform self-absorption correction on the measurement data to eliminate the absorption effects of the sample’s emitted light. Self-absorption Effect and Its Impact: During measurements, especially for LED lighting products, the lamp body or heat sink may strongly absorb light due to their inseparability from the light source. This phenomenon, known as self-absorption effect, refers to the absorption effect of the emitted light by the sample itself. The self-absorption effect mainly impacts: • Measurement errors: When the size and shape of the sample differ significantly from the standard lamp, the response constant of the integrating sphere system may change, leading to measurement errors. • Spectral reflectance differences: The spectral reflectance of the integrating sphere coating is uneven at different wavelengths, resulting in differences in the self-absorption effect at different wavelengths. • Methods to Eliminate Self-absorption Effect: To eliminate the self-absorption effect, auxiliary lamps can be used. The auxiliary lamps should possess the following characteristics: • Broadband spectral emission: Select bulbs capable of emitting broadband spectra, such as halogen bulbs with omnidirectional light intensity distribution. • Uniform illumination: Ensure the auxiliary lamps can create uniform illumination inside the integrating sphere to effectively correct errors caused by the self-absorption effect. Conclusion: By following the above steps and methods, the measurement accuracy of integrating sphere spectral analysis systems can be effectively improved, reducing the impact of the self-absorption effect on measurement results and ensuring accurate spectral data acquisition. LPCE-2(LMS-9000)High Precision Spectroradiometer Integrated Sphere System Maintenance of Integrating Spheres: Proper use and regular maintenance of integrating spheres can significantly extend their service life. Maintenance of integrating spheres mainly includes three aspects: coating maintenance, circuit maintenance, and fixture maintenance. Coating Maintenance: • Cleaning method: Due to the unevenness of the chemical coating inside the integrating sphere, fine dust and debris can easily adhere. When cleaning, gently wipe with a soft brush in one direction. Operating precautions: • Before testing, hold the bulb carefully to avoid dropping or touching the coating of the integrating sphere to prevent damage. • After testing, immediately turn off the power of the tested lamp, remove the fixture, and promptly close the integrating sphere to prevent dust and debris from entering. Circuit Maintenance: • Grounding and power selection: Ensure that the integrating sphere system is properly grounded and choose the appropriate power supply to ensure the safe and stable operation of the equipment. • Regular inspection: Regularly check the wires outside the integrating sphere and the terminal junction box for damage. If worn or damaged wires are found, replace and repair them promptly. Fixture Maintenance: • Lamp head contacts: Ensure that the contacts of the lamp head are working normally without damage or depression to ensure stable power supply to the bulb. • Wiring check: Ensure that the wiring of the bulb fixture is correctly connected to avoid loose or incorrect connections, which may affect test results. Summary: By implementing the above measures, the long-term stability and measurement accuracy of integrating spheres can be ensured, providing reliable data support for various optical measurements. Here are some specific maintenance suggestions: • Regular cleaning: Clean the inner wall of the integrating sphere before and after each test to prevent dust and debris accumulation. • Regular circuit checks: Inspect the circuit system monthly or quarterly to ensure that wiring and power sources are normal. • Fixture maintenance: Check the wiring and contacts of the bulb fixture every time a bulb is installed or removed to ensure proper operation. • Through these measures, the service life of integrating spheres can be effectively prolonged, and their accuracy and reliability in optical measurements can be maintained. Lighting Techniques: Mastering the Art of Illumination
Introduction
Lighting is a crucial aspect of videography, as it can significantly impact the mood, atmosphere, and overall quality of your footage. Whether you're a professional videographer or a hobbyist, understanding different lighting techniques is essential to create visually stunning videos. In this blog post, we'll explore the use of natural light, artificial light, and three-point lighting, offering valuable insights for videographers in Dubai.
Natural Light: Harnessing the Power of the Sun
Natural light is a versatile and often free lighting source that can add a sense of authenticity and realism to your videos. However, it's important to be mindful of its limitations and to know how to work with it effectively.
Golden Hour: The hour after sunrise and before sunset, known as the golden hour, offers soft, warm light that is ideal for creating a cinematic and dreamy atmosphere.
Blue Hour: The hour before sunrise and after sunset, known as the blue hour, provides a cool, subdued light that can add a touch of mystery or melancholy to your footage.
Diffused Light: Cloudy days or using diffusion filters can create softer, more even lighting, which is often preferred for portraits or close-ups.
Hard Light: Direct sunlight can create dramatic shadows and contrasts, which can be used to emphasize textures or create a sense of tension.
Artificial Light: Controlling the Illumination
Artificial light offers greater control and flexibility compared to natural light, allowing you to create specific moods and effects. Here are some common types of artificial lighting used in videography:
Tungsten Lights: These traditional bulbs emit a warm, orange-toned light that is often used to create a cozy or nostalgic atmosphere.
Fluorescent Lights: Fluorescent lights provide a bright, cool light that is often used in offices and commercial settings.
LED Lights: LED lights are energy-efficient and offer a wide range of color temperatures, making them a popular choice for videographers.

Mastering Photography Light: A Guide to Elevating Your Images
Lighting is the backbone of photography, the element that can make or break a shot. Understanding how to use light effectively is essential for any photographer, whether you're just starting or looking to refine your craft. In this article, we will explore the various types of lighting, how to manipulate them, and the impact they have on your images.
The Importance of Light in Photography
Photography Light, at its core, is the art of capturing light. The word "photography" itself comes from the Greek words "photos," meaning light, and "graphos," meaning drawing. In essence, photography is about drawing with light. Without light, there is no image. The way light interacts with the subject, the environment, and the camera's sensor determines the final outcome of a photograph.
Types of Photography Light
Understanding the different types of light is the first step in mastering Photography Light. Here are the most common types:
1. Natural Light
Natural light is sunlight, and it can vary greatly depending on the time of day, weather conditions, and geographic location. Natural light is often preferred by photographers for its softness and warmth, especially during the "golden hour"—the first hour after sunrise and the last hour before sunset.
Golden Hour: This is the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset when the sunlight is soft and warm. It’s ideal for portraits and landscapes as it creates long shadows and a beautiful, flattering light.
Blue Hour: Occurring just before sunrise or after sunset, the blue hour provides a cooler, softer light that’s perfect for moody and atmospheric shots.
Midday Light: The harshest natural light occurs when the sun is directly overhead. It creates strong shadows and can be challenging to work with, but it can also produce dramatic images if used creatively.
2. Artificial Light
Artificial light includes any light source that isn't naturally occurring, such as studio lights, flash, and household bulbs. Artificial light gives photographers control over the intensity, direction, and color of the light, allowing for more creativity and consistency in their work.
Continuous Light: This is a steady light source like LED panels or tungsten lights. Continuous lighting allows Photography Light to see how the light falls on the subject in real-time, making it easier to adjust the setup.
Flash (Strobe) Light: Flash provides a burst of light that can freeze motion and create sharp, well-lit images. It’s commonly used in studio settings and can be modified with diffusers, softboxes, or reflectors to soften or direct the light.
The Direction of Light
The direction from which light hits your subject has a significant impact on the final image. Here are the main types of lighting directions:
1. Front Lighting
Front lighting occurs when the light source is positioned directly in front of the subject, illuminating it evenly. This type of lighting reduces shadows and is often used in portrait photography to create a clear, detailed image. However, it can sometimes make the subject appear flat if not handled carefully.
2. Side Lighting
Side lighting comes from the side of the subject, casting shadows on the opposite side. This type of lighting is excellent for creating depth, texture, and dimension in a Photography Light. It’s often used in portrait photography to create a more dramatic and sculpted look.
3. Backlighting
Backlighting occurs when the light source is behind the subject, facing the camera. This can create a silhouette or halo effect, emphasizing the outline of the subject. Backlighting is popular in landscape Photography Light, especially during sunrise or sunset, as it can create stunning, atmospheric images.
4. Top Lighting
Top lighting is when the light source is directly above the subject. This type of lighting is commonly seen in nature Photography Light, where the sun is high in the sky. Top lighting can be harsh, creating deep shadows under the eyes, nose, and chin, but it can also be used creatively to highlight certain aspects of the subject.
5. Bottom Lighting
Bottom lighting occurs when the light source is below the subject, casting shadows upwards. This type of lighting is often used in horror Photography Light and film to create an eerie and unsettling effect. It’s not commonly used in traditional photography but can be effective for certain creative projects.
Modifying Light
Controlling and modifying light is key to achieving the desired effect in your Photography Light. Here are some common tools and techniques used to modify Photography Light:
1. Reflectors
Reflectors are used to bounce Photography Light onto a subject, filling in shadows and adding dimension. They come in various colors, each producing different effects. A white reflector provides a soft, natural fill light, while a silver reflector offers a stronger, more contrasty light. Gold reflectors add warmth, and black reflectors can be used to absorb light and deepen shadows.
2. Diffusers
Diffusers soften Photography Light by spreading it out and reducing its intensity. They are commonly used in studio photography to create even, flattering light on the subject. Diffusers can be anything from professional softboxes to simple DIY solutions like a white bedsheet or a translucent shower curtain.
3. Gels
Gels are colored filters placed over lights to change the color of Photography Light hitting the subject. They are often used in creative photography to add mood, drama, or to simulate different lighting conditions.
4. Grids and Snoots
Grids and snoots are modifiers that focus light into a narrower beam, allowing Photography Light to control where the light falls. They are useful for highlighting specific parts of a scene or subject, creating spotlights, or adding dramatic contrast.
Conclusion
Mastering light in Photography Light is a journey that requires practice, experimentation, and a keen eye. By understanding the different types of light, the direction of light, and how to modify it, Photography Light can elevate their work and create images that are not only technically sound but also artistically compelling. Whether you’re shooting in natural light or setting up a studio, remember that light is your most powerful tool in capturing the beauty of the world through your lens.

Understanding LED Panel Lights: Types, Benefits, and Applications
Tumblr media
LED panel lights have rapidly become a preferred lighting solution in both residential and commercial spaces. Known for their sleek design, energy efficiency, and versatile application, LED panel lights offer a modern alternative to traditional lighting systems. But what exactly are LED panel lights, and why are they gaining such popularity? In this article, we’ll delve into the different types of LED panel lights, their benefits, and where they are most effectively used.
What Are LED Panel Lights?
LED panel lights are flat, lightweight lighting fixtures that use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to provide bright, even illumination. Unlike traditional bulbs, which emit light in all directions, LEDs emit light in a specific direction, making them more efficient and effective for various lighting needs. LED panel lights are typically installed in ceilings and are designed to blend seamlessly with modern interior designs, providing both functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Types of LED Panel Lights
LED panel lights come in various types, each designed to meet specific lighting requirements and aesthetic preferences. Here are the most common types:
1. Recessed LED Panel Lights
Recessed LED panel lights are installed within the ceiling, creating a clean, flush finish. They are ideal for spaces where a sleek, unobtrusive lighting solution is desired. Recessed panels are often used in offices, conference rooms, and modern homes.
2. Surface-Mounted LED Panel Lights
Surface-mounted LED panel lights are attached directly to the ceiling surface. These lights are perfect for areas where recessed installation is not possible due to ceiling constraints. Surface-mounted panels are commonly found in retail stores, hospitals, and educational institutions.
3. Suspended LED Panel Lights
Suspended LED panel lights hang from the ceiling using wires or rods. This type of installation is popular in spaces with high ceilings or where a more decorative lighting fixture is desired. Suspended panels are often seen in galleries, showrooms, and open-plan offices.
4. Edge-Lit LED Panel Lights
Edge-lit LED panel lights have LEDs around the edges of the panel, with light diffused across the surface by a light guide plate. This design ensures even light distribution and is especially effective in creating a soft, glare-free illumination.
5. Back-Lit LED Panel Lights
Back-lit LED panel lights position the LEDs behind the panel, shining light directly through it. This results in a brighter, more intense light, making back-lit panels ideal for areas that require high levels of illumination, such as workspaces and commercial environments.
Benefits of LED Panel Lights
LED panel lights offer numerous benefits that make them a superior choice over traditional lighting solutions. Here are some of the key advantages:
1. Energy Efficiency
LED panel lights consume significantly less energy compared to traditional incandescent and fluorescent lights. They convert most of the electricity they use into light rather than heat, leading to substantial energy savings.
2. Long Lifespan
One of the standout benefits of LED panel lights is their long lifespan. These lights can last up to 50,000 hours or more, which means fewer replacements and lower maintenance costs over time.
3. High-Quality Illumination
LED panel lights provide bright, uniform light with minimal glare, which is crucial for maintaining comfort and reducing eye strain. The light quality is often closer to natural daylight, making it ideal for tasks that require precision and focus.
4. Eco-Friendly
LED panel lights are an environmentally friendly option. They do not contain harmful chemicals like mercury, and their energy efficiency reduces carbon emissions. Additionally, they are fully recyclable, contributing to a reduced environmental impact.
5. Design Flexibility
With various shapes, sizes, and color temperatures available, LED panel lights offer a high degree of design flexibility. They can be customized to fit any space, from modern residential interiors to sophisticated commercial environments.
6. Instant Lighting
LED panel lights provide instant brightness with no warm-up time required. This feature is particularly beneficial in environments where immediate lighting is essential, such as hospitals and emergency areas.
7. Low Heat Emission
LED panel lights emit very little heat compared to traditional lighting options. This not only makes them safer to touch but also helps in maintaining a cooler environment, especially in spaces where heat-sensitive materials are present.
Applications of LED Panel Lights
LED panel lights are versatile and can be used in a variety of settings, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. Here are some of the most common applications:
1. Residential Spaces
In homes, LED panel lights are often used in living rooms, kitchens, and hallways. Their sleek design and soft, even light make them perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. They can be recessed into ceilings to maintain a minimalist look or surface-mounted to add a touch of modern style.
2. Offices and Workspaces
LED panel lights are a popular choice in offices due to their ability to provide bright, uniform light that reduces eye strain and increases productivity. Their energy efficiency and long lifespan also make them a cost-effective solution for businesses looking to reduce operational costs.
3. Retail Stores
In retail environments, lighting plays a crucial role in showcasing products and creating an inviting shopping experience. LED panel lights are ideal for retail spaces because they offer high-quality illumination that highlights products without casting harsh shadows.
4. Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities
Hospitals and healthcare facilities require lighting that is both functional and comforting. LED panel lights provide bright, clear illumination that is essential for medical tasks while also offering a soothing ambiance for patients. Their low heat emission and energy efficiency further enhance their suitability for healthcare settings.
5. Educational Institutions
In schools and universities, good lighting is essential for creating a conducive learning environment. LED panel lights help reduce eye strain and create a well-lit environment that promotes concentration and focus. They are also durable and cost-effective, making them an excellent choice for educational facilities.
6. Hotels and Hospitality
In the hospitality industry, lighting is a key element in creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. LED panel lights are often used in hotel lobbies, corridors, and guest rooms to enhance the overall ambiance. Their ability to provide consistent, high-quality light makes them a preferred choice in this sector.
7. Galleries and Museums
Galleries and museums require lighting that enhances the viewing experience without damaging the exhibits. LED panel lights provide soft, even illumination that highlights artwork and displays without producing harmful UV rays or excessive heat.
Conclusion
LED panel lights have revolutionized the way we think about lighting, offering a combination of energy efficiency, durability, and design versatility that traditional lighting solutions simply can’t match. Whether you’re looking to illuminate a cozy living room, a bustling office, or a sophisticated gallery, LED panel lights provide the perfect solution. Their wide range of types, coupled with their numerous benefits, make them an ideal choice for both residential and commercial applications.
FAQs
1. What is the difference between edge-lit and back-lit LED panel lights?

5 Ways to Cut Your TX Electricity Costs If You Work From Home
5 Ways to Cut Your TX Electricity Costs If You Work From Home
Tumblr media
How Can You Cut Your TX Electricity Costs?
Tumblr media
Working from home can be distracting enough without worring about your energy bills. Check out these 5 tips that help you cut costs on your Texas electricity. Plus, you'll even save money.
Working from home offers flexibility and comfort but often leads to higher power bills, especially during the hot Texas summers. Fortunately, employing several strategies can help you cut Texas electricity usage and costs. That way you reduce your electric use without sacrificing your productivity or comfort.
1. Cut Your AC Usage Costs
Air conditioning accounts for a huge portion of your electric bill. To manage this, consider pre-cooling your home during the night when power rates are often lower. After 10 pm, set your thermostat to a cooler setting and let your home chill overnight. In the morning, raise it to a higher number, such as 78°F or higher, to maintain a cool home during the day without constantly running the AC.
Using ceiling fans can also help move air and make your home feel cooler, allowing you to set the thermostat even higher without feeling the heat. Lastly, maintain your AC unit by cleaning or replacing filters. This can improve its efficiency and reduce its energy pull. Plus, no one wants to breathe in dirty air!
2. Use Natural Light to Cut Costs
Maximize the use of natural light during the day to reduce the need for other lighting. Position your desk near windows. Keep curtains or blinds open on north-facing windows. This lets in bright and diffuse daylight but keeps out the direct and hot rays of the sun. This not only cuts down on electric usage but also adds the benefit of boosting your mood and productivity.
For times when natural light isn’t sufficient, switch to energy-efficient LED bulbs. LEDs use up to 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs and last much longer, saving you money in the long run.
3. Device and Appliance Tips to Cut Costs
Electronics and appliances can be sneaky energy hogs. Did you know they draw power even when turned off? Unplug devices when not in use to prevent them from drawing "phantom" power. Utilize power strips with on/off switches to easily unplug several devices at once.
Additionally, choose energy-efficient products. Look for the Energy Star label, which shows an item meets strict energy efficiency rules. When replacing older products, investing in energy-efficient models can lead to great savings over time.
4. Buy Smart Home Tech
Smart home devices offer convenient ways to monitor and control your energy usage. Install a smart thermostat that learns your schedule and adjusts in turn. Many can be controlled remotely via phone apps, allowing you to make changes even when you’re not home.
Smart plugs and power strips can also help you manage your power use. These gadgets allow you to schedule when things turn on and off, ensuring that you aren’t wasting energy during non-working hours. Set it, and forget it!
5. Shop for the Best Power Plans
One of the most effective ways to reduce your electricity costs is by choosing the right power plan. Texas Electricity Ratings makes this process easy by allowing you to compare different plans from various providers. You can view customer reviews, plan details, and pricing options all in one place. Cut your TX electricity costs every day of the year when you sign up for a new fixed rate plan.
