Strong & Resilient: Hilmi’s
Tumblr media
Lebanon didn’t suffer from a pandemic alone. Yet, it has been suffering from a severe economic, social, health, and political crisis since 2019. The currency has been devaluated by more than 100% of its true value and banks had robbed the savings of people. Hyperinflation started and the price of products has tremendously increased causing businesses to bankrupt or close and purchasing power to decrease. Major businesses have been affected as almost all people stopped buying and decreased their buying. Hilmi’s Lemonade was able to survive the problems and major efforts have been put in order to continue in the mission of the business.
Hilmi’s functioned normally until the Lebanese crisis has started and COVID became the nightmare of the world. Lockdowns, insane death rates, dangerous virus mutations, and many other problems were able to shut down businesses, whether temporarily or permanently. Only strong businesses with a clear vision and mission were able to survive the crisis and continue with their aim.
Hilmi’s is one of these businesses, and its true vision had helped the business to become the number one destination in Lebanon, amid the chaos. “It was not easy at all to keep functioning normally in a collapsed country, however, we do believe in the strength of our beloved country and we wanted to continue with our mission as lemonade legends” stated Farah Hilmi, one of the three owners of Hilmi’s House of Lemonade.
Her sister Nour Hilmi affirmed by saying “we worked so hard to make this business successful, and we will not let anything harm or affect it”. Although the crisis that Lebanon is suffering from is a severe one, tourists and locals showed great support for the business, where the store has been extending its strength from them.
“We wanted to decrease the stress of the crisis by offering the community a refreshing and authentic Hilmi’s lemonade. Monitoring the currency every day and trying to cope with the change was stressful, however, we believed in the store’s potential and tried our best to keep going”, said Rana Hilmi, the sister of Farah and Nour Hilmi.
Hilmi’s is a strong business and the owners affirmed their continuance in their mission. No matter what, the store has built a strong name and reputation and it had become a must-visit for all people. It had become a space where people can relax, relieve their stress, and enjoy a long-lasting and cool taste.
Farah, Rana, and Nour Hilmi are the champions of the story. Their hard work in surviving the business has been noticed, not only by the Lebanese themselves, but by the whole world as well. Their desire, love, and passion for lemonade which spans more than 130 years is what drove their success and made them resilient amidst all the problems the country was and is still passing through.
