i really like how canonically yuu is genuinely supportive of grim wanting to be a great mage. if i recall correctly, even character voice lines point this out. and it seems like yuu dotes on grim a lot and defends him too??? yuu even encourages grim's ambitions whenever he declares wanting to be a great mage. and also when he does that boss-henchhuman dynamic. i mean yeah you can interpret it as yuu saying that being condescending and sarcastic as if they're talking to a child saying "when i grow up i want to be famous!" but like. i really think they're genuine when mc loves grim in their own way.
even if grim is usually a menace, he's become like family to yuu.
and i'm pretty sure grim feels the same way.
think about it this way. despite all the mess, all the unpredictability, the danger, and all the drama being in nrc. what's always the constant? yuu goes home at the end of the day to the ramshackle dorm (basically their home at this point considering they slowly but surely fix it up over time) and with who? “the great mage” grim. as the sole outcasts in that academy, they both sleep soundly knowing they will always have each other at the end of the day.

How to fix 'All Engines Go', an experimental concept:
I've been chatting with @british-hero about TTTE and time and time again AEG has shown up as the black sheep of the franchise (which I understand perfectly, some of the... Err... Choices are a LITTLE questionable at times, but at least it's not the worst of the worst of BWBA am I right?). From remaking specific characters to make them more "appealing to children", to relegating beloved characters to background only, AEG has rubbed old-time fans the wrong way because it's essentially just a reskinned Paw Patrol-type show.
While I haven't exactly grown up with the show, I can definitely see where Rogue is coming from when they twist their nose. And honestly I think I do have a very quick and simple fix for the show's universe. Or, at least Rogue seems to agree with my concept for remaking it:
It's a fairly simple fix but I think it honestly would have benefited the show a lot more if instead of changing characterizations, they just assigned the OG cast teacher positions, and brought in new engines to be the students.
It wouldn't have upset so many longtime fans, and it would have given newer generations a better taste of TTTE while also still having "kid characters" they can relate to.
Honestly the show has a very lovely art style, and aside from making the engines move in VERY BIZARRE ways, it's not badly animated. It's just a pity that Mattel doesn't seem to understand what the audience wants...
But yeah, those are my two cents on this whole thing.

The cool thing about my workplace is that even if it can’t adhere to the “if something can’t be done in a 40 hour workweek/8 hour workday it’s not worth doing” principle because the science waits for no one, especially when it’s fish science that relies on hitting the right weather and tidal cycles, they do make amends for it, even though we’re salaried.
It’s more like “We recognize that you have had to work 15 extra hours this week to get our surveys done. We’re sorry about that. Here are 20 hours of paid leave to make up for it. Please take them at your leisure.”
So yes. I’m working overtime when we’re in Go Mode, but when things settle? I do get compensated for it by being allowed to skip work. It’s why I’m able to take so much time off and leave early on office days and stuff, and I’m frankly kind of ok with that.
#basically they can’t pay us overtime because Grants#but they give us overtime leave at a rate of 1:1.5 hours#it’s actually very nice since I can ditch to see my family and friends when they’re in town#or take time for doctors appointments or events or just to do hobby projects

the amount of math i put into figuring out my PTO is honestly so funny. i've probably spent like 2 hours this week and last week just playing with the leave calculator spreadsheet my coworker gave me. this morning i added a sheet for 2026 so now i'm calculating my PTO out that far. i basically already have a plan of how i'm taking time off for 2025 so as to maximize my time off in 2026. i dont think this is a normal level of attention to detail but at least i'm having fun
#(at my job i can accrue a certain amount of PTO that then becomes 'use or lose' because only so much carries over each year)#so by the mythical year 2026 i could in fact end up with 121 hours of use or lose by the end of it#aka i am Forced to take off 15 days (121 hrs) that year or it'll just be wiped#oh dear oh no! however could i manage to take 15 days off! <- DESPERATELY wants to be in this position as soon as possible#my issue is that i keep taking too much time off so i havent hit the maximum cap yet lmao#like if i just chilled out i could reach it next year#but chilling out is not in my vocabulary. i have places to go and people to see#therefore i cannot reach use or lose in 2025 BUT i can reach it in 2026....if i don't end up spending too much of what i accrue first#so i have vauge plans next year that havent solidified and i keep trying out stuff to see how many hours it would leave me with#historically my methods of maximizing time are:#1) work a flexible schedule with 9 hour days one pay period in order to get a day off for 'free' (this is how i'll get black friday off)#2) work over time and bank those hours as 'credit' time. i can have up to 24 hours/3 days worth of that stored#(i can easily do this long term by just like. working an extra hour every week and it'll add up lol)#3) receiving a time off award if management loves me enough (i normally get a free 8 hours award each year but i can't bet on this)#4) earning travel comp time by working overtime via work travel (such as your flight getting in at 8 pm or whatever)#5) earning normal comp time by attending a work event outside of normal hours (i.e. that time i worked on saturday)#these are all ways to get time off without dipping into PTO so that i can let the PTO accumulate#......as you can see i'm Very normal about this

today after work i sat in the car in the parking lot for 30 straight minutes staring at my phone ("vegetarian options near me") staring out the windshield at the gray sky (slowly getting darker) staring at my phone ("hi [manager] i was not cool with") and staring out the windshield trying to swallow some seething and a headache to drive back with a cool head.
i don't - i don't get angry. not really. frustrated, grumpy, irked, annoyed - sure. i am not moved to out-loud anger: raised voice, yelling, outbursts. whatever rises I am capable of biting back.
kept my cool long enough to get a Vegetarian Options Near Me (note: bad) and long enough after that to go buy ingredients that i can make food with in a hotel microwave. took care of some of the needs of the flesh. called partner. could relay nothing but the insanity of the work conversations and, in speaking, heard again the words that had driven me to muteness earlier
"I would have just said 'what the fuck' out loud" says the phone.
and I had, alone, in my car, quietly, "what is wrong with you" and "what the fuck" and "what is your problem", but not in conversation.
for which i am giving myself several gold stars today and resolving for tomorrow:
* literally leave the conversation and walk away while they're talking to you if they don't give you grace to leave
* don't play their games
* data, document, propose solution. ask for nothing. especially permission to do your damn job
* buy a fucking soldering iron.
