The domed part of the trinket box which turned into a disaster! 😂 . . As you can see, my first attempt turned out quite well (especially after mucking around trying to find domed surfaces to dome my piece properly - ended up using the toilet door knob! 😂). . . So yes, now it only needed a big of tweaking to make sure the solder went round entirely. . . I tried to push the edges of the dome down and then had the brilliant idea to gently hammer the edges down. Bad idea! I distorted the ring 😅 . . I thought oh well I will be able to fix it later after resoldering. I started heating up the piece again to get the solder all around and literally just NOW I remembered that I was supposed to add flux again, which I didn't... . . So what happened next you say? The solder seems to have disappeared completely 😂 I basically ruined the piece and I'm now waiting for a Cooksongold order for an additional brass doming block with wider and shallower domes to attempt a second lid which will possibly turn out better this time. . . I'll definitely keep you posted with the outcome. I did it!! After a huge slump this term, I finally managed to make and finish one of my diploma pieces! . . It's nowhere near perfect but I managed to do a half decent job. I'm especially proud of the Maltese cross I cut out on the back 🥰 . I couldn't have done this without the kindness and support of the wonderful diploma in silver jewellery community I'm a part of! The encouragement and the overall atmosphere of lifting each other up is what makes it all so much easier and wonderful. . . A pretty spectacular failure for my first week of term 2 @jewellersacademy . . My gold wire just broke! Am I sad? Quite. Disappointed? Horribly. Will I let this dictate my entire mood? Certainly not!
