1200+ words of allergy Sh//outa Ai/zawa

idk where I got this idea to write this but i wrote it

As Shouta stumbled into the dimly lit laundromat, he thought about how he got into this situation.

On his way back from one of the local cat shelters, he heard the local siren indicating a villain attack. As he vaulted onto the nearest rooftop to get a scoop of the land, his eyes quickly spotted the villain. It was obvious he was drunk or under the influence of some kind of drug and was yelling at the local bystanders trying to escape a steaming liquid he seemed to be oozing from his body. He spotted a young girl no older than 6 hanging off of a tree, a valet attempt to escape the burning liquid but it was clear she wasn’t able to hold on much longer. As Shouta wrapped his capture scarf around a close telephone pole and swung to catch the young girl the moment her gripped failed. He had little intention of getting a direct hit from the man’s quirk that started to eat away at his black shirt, exposing the skin underneath. As the young girl hung onto him and he landed on the slick pavement his worry wasn’t on the exposed skin but the threat of the enemy. As other Pro’s quickly handled the situation and Shouta returned the girl to her very thankful parents, he saw the ooze had eaten away at most of his shirt only leaving his capture scarf shielding his boy. Luckily for him being a UA teacher had it perks with local businesses. He quickly pulled out his cellphone and scrolled until he found the name and pressed down, and as the phone rang, he stated walking to the underground laundromat.

He was pulled back from the memory as a cheery voice called out. “G’day mate, how can I help ye?” As Shouta neared the counter he saw the semi-familiar blue and gold eyes of a fairly young female. As Shouta handed over the badly dissolved shirt he replied with a voice tired and rough.

“Hello Thimble, business I assume has been alright…. you know what I like.” She quickly took the torn fabric and replied “Well if you keep bein’ a bogan I sure as hell be a’ight.” Shouta simply nodded and went to sit down as he knew it would not take long to repair the fabric. He met Thimble as a local business deal a few years back, her quick, Edgestitch, as long as there was a piece of the original fabric could replace and repair the item to its original shape and size. Many heroes whose outfits were destroyed employed her and soon she made a small shop for underground heroes. As Shouta rested his eyes and pulled out a jelly packet he could hear the nimble fingers and the sound of machine sewing at a rapid pace, and within a short while, Thimble emerged from the back with his regular black shirt neatly folded with a decorative bow on the top. He quickly thanked her, and put on the shirt, the warm fabric encased his body and he quickly smiled before turning and leaving the small shop.

As he walked back to UA, thinking about what tests he had to grade later and how late he would stay up reviewing video tapes and evidence about the attack last week in Kotsu, his eyes began to sting. He brushed this aside as dry eyes were a common side effect of his quick and as he wiped his eyes on the freshly laundered shirt, he found himself pinching forward.

“Aht’NDJSHuh!”

As he recovered from the sneeze that bended his body, he found himself oddly sniffly and wiping his nose on his sleeve, the tickle which didn’t seem to be going away sprung to life again he found himself pinching forward three more times.

“HUH- HP’TSCHHH! Hih’tschxx- tsch, tsCHHhh”

Eyes watering and nose running he decided maybe the spring air was causing his allergies to act up and he quickly headed inside to the teachers’ lounge in search of some antihistamines as well as tissues. As he pushes the door open to the teachers’ lounge, he saw Vlad as well as All Might and Hizashi lounging on the sofa and as he entered all three heads turned to him. Hizashi was the first one to speak.

“Yo Eraser we expected you here 30 minutes ago what took you so long?”

Eraser simply shook his head and attempted to not sound congested as he replied, “Small run in with a villain, sniff had to make a few alterations on my course here.”

His voice was gravelly and though he tried to hide his congestion Hizashi who had known him for the better part of 15 years quickly picked up on it and stood up and went to his desk side cabinet and pulled out a packet of allergy meds. As Eraser wiped his nose on his sleeve again All Might couldn’t help but comment on the act.

“As a person with health issues I understand truly I do, but please try to be more sanitary we are—"

This sentence was caught off by Eraser quickly doubling over in a fit of sneezes which rendered his body useless.

“I can’t- I—I neehhhhd t—to—HhIH’TSCHhhuu! Hah’tSCHhhu! Hih.. Hih…! G’TSCHXX”

Mic quickly ran to his side helping the hunched over Pro and lead him to the sofa. As he sat down the sneezing started to slow Hizashi quickly grabbed tissues and handed it to the sniffling man.

“Yo eraser are you okay? I’ve known you long enough to know that isn’t normal, you would never show this weakness!”

Shouta eyes were burning and his nose was still flaring an indication that the persistent tickle in the back of his nose wasn’t done. He replied with a voice rough “I bon’t know I was fided all day it’s just--dammit heh-heh ugh G’TSSCHhhhh! Hah’tTSCHHhh! I-I can’t-dTSCchh! Can’t stohihHTSCHHHhh!

Mic rubbed his back and then slowly leaned forward as if he was inspecting something. Mic then quickly turned 180° away from Shouta and sneezed very harshly into his elbow and before he could turn back sneezed three more times in rapid secession.

As he turned back to Shouta one hand pinching his nose he asked, “Are you wearing perfume it’s so strong--Huh’tschhuuh!”

Shouta hadn’t noticed but there was a faint smell of a lavender like scent that reached his nose and as he inhale deeply the tickle flare to life. Mic simply started counted.

Huh’tschhuuh!”

“Five.”

“H-Heh-! Tschhoo!”

“Six”

“—Ptschh, tschhh!”

“Eig…. Fuck is that eight or nine, I lost count, wow Eraser new record!!”

Hizashi while blessing him began to grab the bottom of Shouta shirt and while Shouta was sniffling and panting he quickly took off the article of clothing off and tossed it away.

With the shirt gone Shouta affliction seem to slowly stop and after another 10 minutes the tickle was gone and it was just his eyes that were itching and tears began to stream down his face to stop the burning sensation.

Mic asked again “are you all right now?”

“Yes” he replied voice weak “I got my shirt repaired at the Underground laundromat they must have a new detergent sniff I don’t think I’m very fond of.”

Mic pinched forward and quietly stifled as quietly as Mic could before Shouta continued “-and I don’t think you like it either sniff I’ll have to talk to Thimble about changing back, but for now sniff I’m going sleep.”

Hello! You guys have come at a good time... I've been thinking of looking for romance to read! If it's alright, do you know of any sci-fi or fantasy stories where one of the leads aren't human? Something like a robot, or an AI... Or for fantasy, anything outside that box of "mostly human"... I know there's no lack of vampires or werewolves or elves, but I'd like to see a relationship with a bigger difference in societal expectations of how a relationship works, if that makes any sense. I like the idea of romantic partners figuring it out bc they don't have a shared background? I like nsfw, but I'm hardly picky, since I don't know where I even want to start!

Oh boy are you in luck. There’s a literal ton of sci-fi romance that operates on this. It’s mostly aliens and a lot (read: most) sci-fi romance tends to have some mention or even depiction of sexual slavery but there’s also a lot of alien invasion and other fun stuff.

Additionally due to Amazon and other retailer’s restrictions some kinds of non-human relationships aren’t allowed (too close to bestiality). Although dinosaur romance are a thing... thank Chuck Tingle.

As a note, sci-fi/alien romance can have heroes with extra appendages and is often heavy on the soulmates trope.

My 2020 in K dramas (+1 J drama)

I began watching k-dramas in 2018 but I’ve never watched as many shows, Korean or otherwise, as I have in this one. 2020 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I think what helps me really enjoy this over Bollywood+Malayalam+ American pop culture I grew up with is that a smirk on the wrong character’s face doesn’t make me seethe with rage and want to burn everything down. It’s not like growing up with SRK on screen and then having SRK wannabes leave you with lifelong trauma in reality. I can just move on. It’s removed enough from my everyday life but still familiar in a generic Asian family way. Does that make sense? It’s not perfect and it’s not free of its own harmful stereotypes and narratives, but there’s enough of the good stuff to make you stick around. This year I fell in love with Nana, Kim Hye Soo, Han Yeri, Park Eun bin, Ahn Eun jin, Kim Bum, Kim Yong ji, Flower Boy’s Go Dok Mi and Search:WWW’s Bae Tami. Cancelled Ji Chang wook (bye). Desperately missed Kim Jae Wook. Had thoughts on Hwang In Yeop, which were mostly heart eyes. Discovered J dramas and fell in love with Cherry Magic’s Adachi.

My year-in-review below:

LOVED

Into The Ring - I am so glad I saved this for a rainy day because it’s exactly the kind of upright citizen shenanigans my unemployed ass needed at the end of the year.

Goo Se Ra thinks the govt should work for the people but that doesn’t mean her own moral compass always points north. Her purpose is to make steady money, and I love seeing her go hard to survive and cobble together what she needs. The thing that really works for me is that she wants to be good, but she isn’t always. And you get to see her be disappointed, upset, embarrassed and hurt from being publicly kicked in the gut as she navigates a job where she appears, on the surface, to be a supremely confident, self-serving, accidental politician. What you see as her naiveté is mostly just her being a regular person in an environment dictated by backhand deals and rich people politics. She gets hit again and again, and you see what it does to her sense of worth to get back up again, how she grapples with her self. And through all this the show is funny?! Se Ra is what writers of manic pixie characters think they are doing and not doing at all. Love her friends, and Jang Hye-jin is *chef’s kiss*!

Hyena - Kim Hye Soo’s Jung Geum Ja is perhaps Se Ra’s older and darker contemporary. Geum Ja is a survivor and will get what she wants and where she wants to, however many hells she has to cross. She’s single-minded about her success, ruthless and has no qualms about bending morals to get the outcome she needs. She’ll never compromise on who she is or justify how she lives, can build people up and also tear them down, but she also knows care and kindness.

I turned to Signal for more Kim Hye Soo but was disappointed in how the first few episodes seemed to shortchange her. May try again in 2021.

(Highly recommend @saltr0se’s fic series which just GETS Geum Ja so well. Fic writers are the best)

Search: WWW (Finished in 2020) - It took me half a year to finish this. I started watching Search in Oct 2019 and raced through the first 6 episodes because I couldn’t take my eyes off the rollercoaster of Bae Tami’s life. And then I had to take a break because it was a little too close to the frenetic pace of my own industry. As @drivingsideways wrote, a lot of Search is premised around ‘patriarchy? who dat?’, which is why watching its politics play out is so fascinating. It’s also deliciously turmoil-y to watch a very clear-sighted, weathered Tami put on rose-tinted glasses for her romance and then frequently peer over them to evaluate whether it could actually meld into her life.

Catch The Ghost - Kim Seonho oozes charm and perhaps Startup was a showcase of how effectively he can be a typical male lead. But Catch is exactly not that. Go Jiseok and Yoo Ryeong have moulded their lives around to meet their most desperate wishes in life and in the process also left parts of themselves untended. There is guilt, pain and need. Now guess who will tend to whose wounds? Their dynamic is electric even when the central mystery flags towards the last few episodes of the show. I really hope Moon Geun Young is doing well and gets more amazing roles soon. She is so good here.

(Highly recommend @melonatures‘s fic for putting that sizzling on-screen chemistry into words. HOW?!) Cherry Magic - Stories about painfully awkward people are my jam and Eiji Akaso gets Adachi’s shy, nervy energy so right. Cherry Magic is straight up just 12 hours of 🥺🥺🥺.

Stranger/Secret Forest - I’ve been devouring the entirety of Agatha Christie’s work this year after Stranger reminded me how comforting murder mysteries can be. I love Bae Doona. I also love characters who don’t get social norms, not always because they are out to flout them but because that’s just not how their mind/brain works. (have to watch S2)

Flower Boy Next Door - Honestly, the opening scene introducing Park Shin Hye’s character Go Deok Mi sold me on this immediately. An introverted, penny pinching copy editor living alone and working from home thanks to extreme social anxiety? Love. All the side characters are a lot of fun and I’ve never loved Kim Seulgi and Go Kyung Pyo more. It’s a warm show, slowly rounding off the sharp edges of every character.

JUST FUN

The Spies Who Loved Me - It’s been a year of disappointing rom-coms and Spies kind of quietly turned it around for me. I want to be the fly on Yoo In Na’s wall as she figures how to play her characters. I’ve only seen her in 3 roles but somehow she always manages to be in character arcs that don’t short change her. Spies could’ve been and sometimes is the regular heterosexual fare, but In Na ups the ante over and over again, coming out on top as the smartest person in the room.

ENJOYED WITH *RESERVATIONS*

I have to watch A Piece Of Your Mind again because I don’t understand how Jung Hae In and Chae Soo bin built SO MUCH warmth and crackling chemistry with barely a kiss. I was iffy about how the whole AI thing started off and the tortured musician plotline (angsty male artists will forever be an eyeroll for me).

Park Min Young is a queen who never disappoints and When The Weather Is Nice is everything you want in a winter romance. My reservation was in how they explore so much of domestic abuse and the complex ways its traumatised the women in this family. I’m ok with the characters having imperfect ways of processing and understanding the violence, I welcome it. I’m not ok with the show dancing around whether the pivotal crime was justified/ self defence (it was).

A lot of dramas did this. I loved Han Yeri and Choo Ja Hyun in My Unfamiliar Family, I didn’t like the free pass the show gave their dad’s abusive character.

Hwang Jung Eum’s comedy style is generally not my thing but she was pretty great in Mystic Pop-UP Bar. But I’m side-eyeing the sanctity surrounding motherhood. Maybe I should read more about babies and Korean folklore.

Hospital Playlist was my comfort watch through June and July. I think its wholesomeness and non-plot writing came at a good time for me. But I noticed then that the throughline for all main characters was moral superiority and hence what I then saw as *wholesomeness*. It’s kind of what makes it a grating rewatch in parts. Plus the real life of misogyny of Yoo Yeon Seok makes me want to push his angelic catholic character off a cliff. (For context, i was raised catholic). I want to continue loving Chae Song Hwa, and for that the showrunners need to stop cornering her with overbearing romantic interests (let that woman breathe! she literally ran away to another city!)

Hospital is good at creating moments of comfort, so much so that I went to watch Reply 1988 after it, but had to drop it coz I couldn’t get into it. Maybe I’ll come back to it next year.

Once Again is what I call joint family propaganda. What it does well is lay bare the mechanics of living in a society that prizes the heterosexual family structure, the loops you have to jump through to hide when you break its rules and what happens when you are found out. I love the characters, their fights, their frustrations. I just don’t love the validation of joint families. (context: i grew up in an oppressive joint family lol). In my au, Nahee and Gyujin don’t get married again or immediately have children, but take the long route to figuring out how to love the person the other is. Gahee is openly dating Hyo shin and her parents have to figure out how to process her success and her romance. Young dal and Ok boon have to learn to stop dictating their children’s lives. Joon sun runs his company from home, so his wife Hyun kyung can work on what she wants. Choyeon, Joori and Ga-yeon go back to being flamboyant AF and the market learns to not judge. Gyujin and Jaesok have to actually work on the relationship with their mother and what sent her into depression. Just a lot of learning involved.

Just Between Lovers was a nice watch, i just don’t get how Kang doo and Ha Moon So’s relationship will survive his constantly simmering anger.

Crash Landing on You was so much fun until the main romance turned angsty, but it gave us North Korean soldier shenanigans and the epic romance of Seo Dan and Alberto Gu that we needed more of.

Tale of The Nine Tailed is probably what Goblin wished it was. I, however, will never be over Lee Rang. (Also, when can gods stop meeting their love interests as babies? Asking for my sanity)

I literally ignored everything in Oh My Ghost except Park Bo Young and Kim Seulgi and it was amazing.

NOPE

Goblin, Dinner Mate, Oh My Baby and My Secret Romance were a whole lot of NO, NAHI, ILLAAA.

I loved hate-watching The King:Eternal Monarch with the rest of k drama tumblr but someone please take away Kim Eun-sook’s access to gigantic budgets and all-star casts.

It was painful to watch Do You Like Brahms squander away its potential but I’m glad to be introduced to Park Eun bin. Age of Youth is next on watchlist.

More than Friends to me is only Ahn Eun jin. Someone give her amazing lead roles asap.

Why did Record of Youth do that to Park So Dam and her clothes? Just why

Fandom’s 5 Horror Anime to Watch

I am a baby. I am not good with horror. But sometimes I find myself craving a good scare, and I have just the anime I go to for that. If you want an anime that’ll scare you or give you chills, or even just has a good spooky soundtrack to check out, these are right up your alley.

Just please do mind the content warnings, as many of these deal with incredibly graphic, disturbing, and downright terrifying content.

And with that, let’s begin.

#1) Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

Teiichi Niiya is a first year who attends Seikyou Private Academy, a school with over 60 years of history and mysteries, and has been added to so much that its easy to get lost in the crisscross of old and new buildings. One day, when he ends up lost in the old building, Teiichi comes across the ghost of a young girl named Yuuko Kanoe, who has lost all memory of her life leading up to her death, and the two decide to form a club to try and recover her lost memories.

If you want my full thoughts on this one, I have a review of the anime right here. Out of all of them, this one is probably the lightest in terms of scares, but its very rich in story and characters.

#2) Parasyte: The Maxim

Shinichi Izumi is a high school student in Tokyo who ends up with a parasitic worm like creature completely taking over his right hand. This entity, given the name Migi, was supposed to completely take over Shinichi’s body, but is now permanently stuck in his right hand, leaving the two as separate minds sharing one body. As other parasites slowly begin to take over other human hosts, Shinichi and Migi quickly realize that, if they want to survive, they’ll have to work together.

This one was quite the rollercoaster of a ride and by far has one of my most favorite OSTs and some of my favorite animated fight sequences of all time. Definitely worth a watch if you’re okay with extreme body horror.

#3) Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, AKA When They Cry

The year is 1983, and Keiichi Maebara and his family have recently moved to the small rural town of Hinamizawa. He befriends and joins the club of his fellow school mates Rena, Mion, Satoko, and Rika, and everyone excitedly prepares for the annual Watanagashi Festival, where the town gives thanks to their local deity Oyashiro. However, a curse seems to be plaguing the town, as every year for the last four years during the festival, one person dies, and another goes missing.

By far one of the best visual novel adaptations ever put to anime, this series is chock full of scares, paranoia, and amazingly enough, hope. It’s getting a remake coming out this year, but I beg you to watch the original 2006 anime adaptation first. It’s still an amazing anime even 14 years later.

#4) Shiki

It is the summer of 1994, and all seems well in the little village of Sotoba. That is, until the Kirishiki family moves into the abandoned mansion on the hill. Slowly, people start dying of an unknown cause. Others say they’ve seen their lost loved ones walking about at night. As Dr. Ozaki tries to find answers, a young boy named Natsuno Yuuki, who hates the village, begins to feel he’s being stalked by Megumi Shimizu, a girl who wanted to leave Sotoba and was the first victim of these mysterious deaths.

This one is hauntingly beautiful in many ways and stands out with its unique art style, chilling soundtrack, and overall atmosphere of dark and disturbing. A definite much watch.

And if you have already checked this one out, I suggest looking into the series Another, as the authors of Shiki and Another are married in real life.

#5) Hell Girl

Have you heard of the Hell Correspondence? It’s very simple really. You wait until midnight, and submit the name of the person you hate the most into the website. Ai Enma then appears to you, and offers you a doll. Pull the string around its neck, and she will banish your tormentor straight into the depths of Hell. However, if you do this, you enter a contract with her, and when your death comes for you, you will also be banished into Hell. If it came down to it, would you pull the string?

This is one of the very first horror anime I have ever watched. And holy shit. It is a fantastic masterpiece of storytelling in the first two seasons. Seasons three and four are a bit lackluster, but still have their charm, and overall the story of Ai and the people she interacts with are amazing. Probably the second heaviest of all the titles listed here (as it’s hard to top Higurashi), but its one that I insist you watch if you can.

OPM Webcomic Chapter 124 Review: Comings and Goings

I’m just staying for the dog

We finally get a better idea of what the Neo Hero offer is when we see Forte discussing how much he’s tempted by it with his friends. Twice the salary, which must be a lot considering that in the manga Suiryu had been tempted by the prospect of making what Snek did (not enough to be told what to do). Not just free housing, but also free food and clothing, so that salary will really go far. Access to equipment for all heroes, not just higher-ranked heroes. An AI that assigns the best group of heroes for a threat, as well as readily-available transportation to threats. Literally the only reason they’ll kick out a hero is for a lack ‘normative awareness’ which threw me a bit, but it’s a term from psychology referring to a practioner’s awareness of their own ethics.

Just one thing bothers them: who will take care of Rover? Saitama may be a great hero, but he has no business being a dog owner. Forte, Chain n’ Toad and Butterfly DX coming to a tacit agreement not to leave the Hero Association because they can’t stomach leaving an innocent animal in the tender mercies of a neglectful owner is touching. Perhaps they should buy the dog off Saitama!

Saitama notes that no one has approached him to ask him to join the Neo Heroes -- and then he is. Approached at any rate. By a group of disgruntled heroes angry at the shameful names the Hero Association has given them. As the top-ranked hero, they’ve come to ask ‘Caped Baldy’ to lead a delegation to force the Hero Association to rename them.

We move on to see how the new HA candidate, who we’ve learned is named Suiko, is getting on with her Hero Test.

For this face alone, I LOVE her. It’s the face of a young woman furious at being belittled yet again:

She certainly shuts the scouts up by destroying the combat robot tester in grand style, although she’s disappointed to only get an A-Class placement. Nevertheless, the scouts are extremely hopeful that once she gets actual battle experience and starts to develop, she’ll make it to Class S. I’m so ready to see a heroine get there by muscle power, yes, yes please!

Meanwhile, her slacker brother is considering heroism after all, as he has showed up at the Neo Heroes to give it a try.

ONE has not been afraid to change things between webcomic and manga and it’s in great evidence with Suiryu’s apprearance in the webcomic. Because the events surrounding the Super Fight did not happen in the webcomic, webcomic Suiryu does not know Saitama and is his original arrogant, lazy, money-grubbing self. The Neo Heroes must be paying fantastically to overcome his dislike for rules, of which the Neo Heroes has many (certainly more than the Hero Association did). Whether Suiryu will come to some Damascene conversion like his manga equivalent did or not is something that remains to be seen.

We close out the chapter with Genos getting his long-awaited spar (one-sided thrashing?) and thanking Saitama for the invaluable data he’s been able to gather. As Saitama turns away, he starts to ask him about what Saitama did with Amai Mask but stops at seeing how uncharacteristically serious he looks.

... just what has Saitama had to do?

Genos need not have worried. Saitama is still Saitama -- it’s the stone in his shoe that bothers him, not the mountain he effortlessly leaped to the top of. His serious face is because he’s thinking about the Victim Hero Names Association and is looking forward to being able to pick a better name for himself.

Even if the world is on fire, there’s still time to toast marshmallows.

Meta: When the heroes fight each other, the monsters win

Black Sperm summarizes the situation beautifully. At a time when the Hero Association has come in for some long-overdue criticism, the Neo Heroes has magically popped up as an alternative, giving people something to flock to.

Splitting hero forces this way is only going to confuse the picture and lead to tensions between rival factions, which is space that monsters, villains and no-gooders can thrive in.

The Neo Hero offer appears very carefully calibrated to appeal to heroes. We’ve long known that Hero Association pays very poorly, particularly at the C-Class and B-Class levels. Even Class S doesn’t make what it could, if Flashy Flash noting that any hero working for the money is in the wrong field. We’ve known that heroes are generally expected to get themselves to site themselves, HA-provided transport is a rarity. They’ve promised to ensure that heroes are never faced with fighting on their own and that they’ll use an AI match hero talents to the monster threat at hand. The last point raises an interesting question -- how can they know that? It’s a problem the Hero Association has been desperate to solve and that Child Emperor took a crack at before realizing that there was no way to tell exactly what a monster was like before engaging it. Who wrote that AI then? With 2000 heroes on the books to lavish funds on, just how long is the largesse of the Neo Heroes going to continue?

So many questions needing answers.
