Milano è memoria. Domani la posa di tredici pietre di inciampo per ricordare anche gli operai e le operaie morti nei lager per essersi ribellati al fascismo e ai tedeschi nel 1944. Milano, domani, giovedì 7 marzo, in occasione del 70esimo anniversario degli scioperi che nel 1944 a Torino e Milano costarono la vita ad operai ed operaie, il Comune di Milano, nell'ambito del progetto Milano è Memoria, e il Comitato Pietre di Inciampo poseranno tredici nuove pietre. Insieme ai nomi di donne e uomini ebrei sarà ricordato anche chi manifestò contro il regime nazifascista che aveva convertito le fabbriche alla produzione di armi necessarie alla guerra impoverendo e affamando la popolazione già stremata da anni di conflitto. La cerimonia avrà inizio alle ore 8.30 in via in via Renato Fucini 5, con la posa della pietra in memoria di Margarethe Weissenstein De Francesco e proseguirà per tutta la mattinata. Vi parteciperanno i membri del Comitato, i familiari e la Presidente del Consiglio Comunale, Elena Buscemi. L'evento di domani rientra e chiude il palinsesto di iniziative dedicate al Giorno della Memoria iniziato lo scorso 25 gennaio con la posa delle prime dodici pietre del 2024. Con quelle di domani si arriverà a 26 in 23 luoghi della città. Dalla prima pietra di inciampo, posta nel 2017 in memoria di Alberto Segre, padre della senatrice a vita, in corso Magenta 55, sono 197 le persone ricordate in città, in 158 vie diverse (23 nuove quest'anno). Un mosaico della memoria che ogni anno aggiunge nuove presenze dove queste persone vissero fino al momento dell'arresto, della deportazione e della morte. September 30 is the feast day of Saint Jerome, priest and Doctor of the Church

Jerome was born at Stridon, a village near Emona on the border of Dalmatia and Pannonia. He is best known for his translation of most of the Bible into Latin (the translation that became known as the Vulgate) and his commentaries on the Gospels. His list of writings is extensive.

Seized with a desire for a life of ascetic penance, Jerome went for a time to the desert of Chalcis, to the southeast of Antioch, known as the "Syrian Thebaid" from the number of eremites inhabiting it. Returning to Antioch in 378 or 379, Jerome was ordained there by Bishop Paulinus, apparently unwillingly and on condition that he continue his ascetic life. He seems to have spent two years there, then left, and for the next three (382–385) he was in Rome again, as secretary to Pope Damasus I and the leading Roman Christians.

In Rome Jerome was surrounded by a circle of well-born and well-educated women, including some from the noblest patrician families, such as the widows Lea, Marcella and Paula, with Paula's daughters Blaesilla and Eustochium. The resulting inclination of these women towards the monastic life, away from the indulgent lasciviousness in Rome, and his unsparing criticism of the secular clergy of Rome, brought a growing hostility against him among the Roman clergy and their supporters. Soon after the death of his patron Pope Damasus I on 10 December 384, Jerome was forced to leave his position at Rome.

Late in the summer of 388 he was back in Palestine, and spent the remainder of his life working in a cave near Bethlehem, the very cave where Jesus was born, surrounded by a few friends, both men and women (including Paula and Eustochium), to whom he acted as priestly guide and teacher. To these last 34 years of his career belong the most important of his works; his version of the Old Testament from the original Hebrew text, the best of his scriptural commentaries; his catalogue of Christian authors.

Jerome is also often depicted with a lion, in reference to the popular hagiographical belief that Jerome had tamed a lion in the wilderness by healing its paw.

Jerome is recognised as a saint and Doctor of the Church by the Catholic Church, the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Lutheran Church, and the Anglican Communion.

One of the most popular shows that FX created was the motorcycle drama Sons of Anarchy. However, he made a drastic mistake when he stole Gemma's car and money. This led to the next episode, where Jax, Nero, and other SAMCRO members chased him down, attacked him, and got the money back.

5 Charisma Carpenter

Charisma Carpenter made her name thanks to her role as Cordelia on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff Angel. Since then, she has mostly taken on small movie roles and guest appearances on various TV shows. This includes a turn on Sons of Anarchy in the event season episode 'Red Rose'. She had a minor role, playing a character named Carol, a conservative administrative director that Gemma spoke to when visiting her father at his care home facility.

4 Stephen King

Stephen King never hid the fact that he was a huge Sons of Anarchy fan. When Kurt Sutter learned about how big of a fan the Master of Horror was, he reached out to see if King would like to appear in the series. King said yes, but he had one request.

Taryn Manning is best known for her lead role in the hit Netflix drama series Orange Is the New Black. Manning played Piper Chapman in the series. However, before this, she had a small role on Sons of Anarchy.  Manning took on the role of Cherry in the first season of the series, and her final appearance was in Season 3. Her character met Half-Sack and started to date him. When the ATF tried to force her to rat out SAMCRO, Jax helped her escape the country.

2 Derek Mears

Derek Mears has mostly worked as a stuntman, but he is also well-known as the last person to take on the role of Jason Voorhees in the 2009 Friday the 13th reboot. He also appeared in several other horror and sci-fi movies, with his most high-profile performance in the DC Comics series Swamp Thing as the Swamp Thing. Mears played the character of Plow, a member of the Aryan Brotherhood, and died in his only appearance in "Wolfsangel."

SECTION 1. PURPOSE This notice provides guidance regarding an extension of the replacement period under § 1033(e) of the Internal Revenue Code for livestock sold on account of drought in specified counties.

SECTION 2. BACKGROUND .01 Nonrecognition of Gain on Involuntary Conversion of Livestock. Section 1033(a) generally provides for nonrecognition of gain when property is involuntarily converted and replaced with property that is similar or related in service or use. Section 1033(e)(1) provides that a sale or exchange of livestock (other than poultry) held by a taxpayer for draft, breeding, or dairy purposes in excess of the number that would be sold following the taxpayer’s usual business practices is treated as an involuntary conversion if the livestock is sold or exchanged solely on account of drought, flood, or other weather-related conditions.

.02 Replacement Period. Section 1033(a)(2)(A) generally provides that gain from an involuntary conversion is recognized only to the extent the amount realized on the conversion exceeds the cost of replacement property purchased during the replacement period. If a sale or exchange of livestock is treated as an involuntary conversion under § 1033(e)(1) and is solely on account of drought, flood, or other weather-related conditions that result in the area being designated as eligible for assistance by the federal government, § 1033(e)(2)(A) provides that the replacement period ends four years after the close of the first taxable year in which any part of the gain from the conversion is realized. Section 1033(e)(2)(B) provides that the Secretary may extend this replacement period on a regional basis for such additional time as the Secretary determines appropriate if the weather-related conditions that resulted in the area being designated as eligible for assistance by the federal government continue for more than three years. Section 1033(e)(2) is effective for any taxable year with respect to which the due date (without regard to extensions) for a taxpayer’s return is after December 31, 2002.

SECTION 3. EXTENSION OF REPLACEMENT PERIOD UNDER § 1033(e)(2)(B) Notice 2006-82, 2006-2 C.B. 529, provides for extensions of the replacement period under § 1033(e)(2)(B). If a sale or exchange of livestock is treated as an involuntary conversion on account of drought and the taxpayer’s replacement period is determined under § 1033(e)(2)(A), the replacement period will be extended under § 1033(e)(2)(B) and Notice 2006-82 until the end of the taxpayer’s first taxable year ending after the first drought-free year for the applicable region.

For this purpose, the first drought-free year for the applicable region is the first 12-month period that:

(1) ends August 31;

The applicable region is the county that experienced the drought conditions on account of which the livestock was sold or exchanged and all counties that are contiguous to that county.

A taxpayer may determine whether exceptional, extreme, or severe drought is reported for any location in the applicable region by reference to U.S. Drought Monitor maps that are produced on a weekly basis by the National Drought Mitigation Center.

In addition, Notice 2006-82 provides that the Internal Revenue Service will publish in September of each year a list of counties1 for which exceptional, extreme, or severe drought was reported during the preceding 12 months. Taxpayers may use this list instead of U.S. Drought Monitor maps to determine whether exceptional, extreme, or severe drought has been reported for any location in the applicable region.

The Appendix to this notice contains the list of counties for which exceptional, extreme, or severe drought was reported during the 12-month period ending August 31,

Under Notice 2006-82, the 12-month period ended on August 31, 2019, is not a drought-free year for an applicable region that includes any county on this list. Accordingly, for a taxpayer who qualified for a four-year replacement period for livestock sold or exchanged on account of drought and whose replacement period is scheduled to expire at the end of 2019 (or, in the case of a fiscal year taxpayer, at the end of the taxable year that includes August 31, 2019), the replacement period will be extended under § 1033(e)(2) and Notice 2006-82 if the applicable region includes any county on this list. This extension will continue until the end of the taxpayer’s first taxable year ending after a drought-free year for the applicable region.

Our Formative Evaluation Work

With gratitude for all the work that PLX Coaches and PLN Facilitators have been doing throughout the life of the PLN/PLX Initiative, it is with great pleasure that we share the Research Design for Formative Evaluation. 

This document was developed in collaboration with our research partner, David Brazer of Stanford University, and outlines the methods that will guide our work throughout the next several months.

As the document details, the purpose of this formative evaluation research is to inform CCEE and interested stakeholders about the effects of Professional Learning Networks (PLNs) and the Professional Learning Exchange (PLX) on PLN members and their organizations. 

In the process of discerning these effects, we hope to learn how their structures and processes lead to both continuous improvement and unexpected outcomes. We have a strong interest in learning the effectiveness of its model and how it might be altered to guide future work.

We are actively working on a plan for 2019-20 and beyond and will share updates as they are available. In the meantime, we want to reiterate our thanks for the important role the PLX Coaches and PLN Facilitators play in this evaluation work. 

Your willingness to share details about your networks’ impact through the tri-annual survey administrations, monthly reports, Impact Plans, and the Impact Matrix (and related artifact sharing) has been and will continue to be critical to the work. 

We are committed to keeping you apprised of our progress in the months to come.

Stakeholder survey for the Community Engagement Initiative

The California Engagement Initiative is funded by the State of California to build the engagement capacity of school districts and their communities, with the ultimate focus of improving student outcomes. 

The CCEE, the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, and two community-based organizations (the California Association for Bilingual Education and Families in Schools) are leading this effort. Together, these four entities are designing and will operate networks of district teams to help identify effective models of community engagement and metrics to evaluate those models. 

These district teams will include individuals from many different perspectives - from students and their families to school site staff to district administrators to staff from the local county office of education.
