“Oh,” doubt, shortly followed by regret, visibly washes over Job’s face as he hesitates relinquishing the container over to the stranger. With no food allergies of his own to speak of, the notion has never even occurred to him before. “O-oh, uh -- I really wouldn’t be able to tell you, my guy. Sorry.”
Though still unsure as to whether his previous invitation to dine together has been accepted or denied by the man, he begins leading the both of them toward the motel as he hurries to add, very much despite himself, “You can have half my burger, if you’d like. That can’t’ve been fried in peanut oil, right?”
To be quite frank, Job hasn’t the slightest of clues whether this is true or not and, what’s more, is very much capable of inhaling the whole thing on his own, he’s so hungry - but, now he’s made the offer, Job reckons he cannot take it back. He can go an evening short of a satisfying meal if it means another drifter such as himself does not go hungry, either.

Reservation isn’t uncommon on the road - as it very well ought to be. How many times has Job’s own open, welcoming nature gotten him into trouble well over his head? Truthfully, far more often than he’d care to admit. And yet, it would appear that the lesson has not been learned, even after all these years - for he watches the man linger at the parking lot of the motel; hears his own, empty stomach roar, rather furiously, at the delicious scent of deep-fried chicken, demanding to be fed at once; and so, before he can even think to stop himself, reaches to retrieve a container from the plastic bag dangling from his hand as he advances towards him.
“I sure am,” he confirms, lips pressed together in a gentle, unassuming smile, meeting the man’s eyes head-on despite the feeling, creeping out from the farthest corner of his mind, that perhaps this stranger does not quite welcome such a direct approach. Still, Job insists that he take the container and, glancing only briefly over his shoulder towards his motel room, hurries to add, despite himself, “Could use the company, if you wanna come sit down for a bit.”
