So... like i say in the video, i'm pretty sure this is an issue where an Advanced Mover was using the 4th layer back wall in LBP2 as a backstop, and since there is no 4th layer back wall in LBP3, it just keeps sailing on. Except... it comes forward too, and i have no idea what's triggering that. This is not to mention i'm not even sure why there would be a Mover of any kind on that piece in the first place. It's all very weird.

[Review] Shu (PSVita)

This platformer is a right charmer.

Still working through my library of Vita-compatible PSN games, Shu is one of those games that just caught my eye while browsing the sales page one day. A relatively early release from British indie studio Coatsink, the trailer gave me some Rayman Origins vibes which was enough to hook me instantly. The game itself is not quite as ambitious as that but was enough to delight me for a few hours.

While the inspiration seemed obvious to me, the gameplay is a little more minimalist than the new Rayman games. Your main actions are just to move, jump, and glide, without much momentum management. There is the brilliant companion feature though, where Shu's fellow villagers pop up to help him out. Each world features two who will run alongside you holding hands (so cute!) and grant you a new ability, be it a double jump, water running, wall jump, a dash, or some other interaction with a level gimmick. This culminates in the final gauntlet level that cycles you through all of them in a row.

Although the game features "only" 15 levels, each one is packed with obstacles and collectibles. There's no combat or boss fights, but you do sometimes have to run from a sentient storm and its gaping mouth, which can get pretty tense. Unfortunately they did implement a lives system (not having taken on board the freedom of Rayman Origins' removal of this mechanic), but it actually works like Little Big Planet: each checkpoint tops you up to five lives, with no other way to increase your total. The game doesn't need lives, but it was interesting since I haven't seen anyone else use the particular system LBP did.

With its stylised hand-drawn characters on top of lovely 3D environments, Shu makes a strong impression. The character designs in particular are just so charming. I was glad there was a hub level that lets you try out their abilities and view some concept art for each. The game is also good about communicating gameplay notions visually which is important in the chase scenes or time trials.

Shu is just a pleasant time all the way through, with only a few pain points in certain later levels. The different worlds have distinct styles and the companion characters help change up the gameplay too, with nothing overstaying its welcome. The field of view is just right, although playing on the Vita the characters and interactables seem tiny... but I actually like that a lot as a style! I'm glad I took a chance on Shu because it charmed the trousers off me; spiffing.

GABALDON, Nueva Ecija – The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) will give land to landless Filipinos who would venture into agriculture upon return to provinces.

 DAR Undersecretary Emily Padilla said on Saturday the move is in support of the government's Balik Probinsya program.

 DAR Secretary John Castriciones on Friday led the distribution of food packs, vitamins and medicines to agrarian reform beneficiaries and organizations in this town and Palayan City.

 Castriciones, who was also joined by DAR Undersecretary Virginia Orogo and provincial agrarian officials here, said they have huge areas of farmland for distribution to landless Filipinos.

 The processing, he said, has been stalled since agency personnel, particularly surveyors, cannot work on field due to quarantine rules as the country battles coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

 "Pagkatapos po na magkaroon tayo ng relaxation ng quarantine protocols natin, pwede na naman ulit lumarga yung mga tao, pumunta sa iba't ibang lugar, ipagpapatuloy na natin yung pagsa-survey ng mga lupa (Once we have relaxation on quarantine protocols, our personnel can go to the different place to continue the surveying of the lands)," he added.

 At present, Castriciones said DAR has 420,000 privately acquired lands and about 150,000 government-owned lands for distribution to beneficiaries.

 Privately-acquired lands are to be paid by recipients to the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), while government-owned lands are free.

 "Dahil ito po ay government-owned, libre po ito. At ito po ay ikinakabit namin sa programa ng gobyerno na Balik Probinsya kung saan yung mga urban dwellers, mga kababayan nating Filipino na nanduon sa syudad kung gusto nilang bumalik sa probinsya, isa po sa maitutulong na ayuda ng DAR ay magbigay po ng kapirasong lupa (Because this is a government-owned, it is free. We are attaching this to the government's program Balik Probinsya wherein the urban dwellers, our countrymen who are in the cities and want to go back to the provinces, one of the assistance of DAR is to give them (a) piece of land), " he said.

 The program, he added, is also open for returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

 Castriciones further said Orogo and Padilla have waged a housing program called Balai Magsasaka, a "revolutionized" settlement program for Filipino farmers. 

 Palayan City mayor Adrianne Mae Cuevas expressed hope that problems on land ownership can be all resolved before she steps down as local chief executive.

 Meanwhile, Castriciones said the DAR has re-aligned some PH300 million from its different programs to extend support to individual farmers and organizations of agrarian reform beneficiaries. (PNA)

Well, if this is the last community level review, i coulda done a lot worse for it. Honestly, wherever YAMAME3 is these days, i want to thank them for making their level copyable way back when. Distress in Ocean feels like it well represents a lot of the good of LBP, especially early LBP, and that's a nice note to go out on.

Just as a level itself, it's quite well done. Expansive, filled wiv interesting setpieces and some really, really nice mechanical elements. Largely maintains its pace, aside from the squid bit, which probably could have been a bit more cleanly presented to help wiv the flow. The use of the shark as a recurring element to tie the whole piece together, but also the inventiveness in how it was set up. There's really a lot to love here.

But also that YAMAME3 made this cool thing, and then showed everyone how they'd done it. So folx could make their own cool things. Of course, people being people, a lot of folx turned around and just copy-pasted it, and so you saw fewer and few copyable levels in a relatively short span of time. But that idea of sharing wiv the community would live on in helpful fansite members answering questions, and people like comphermc putting tutorials up on YouTube. Folx might have been wary of just giving away their creations, but they still wanted to share. Maybe it's schmaltzy, but it's kinda beautiful as well. Even wiv the servers down, you still have folx like AfrosackGP putting out some really amazing how-tos (seriously, check out GP's videos, they're fantastic)

So, yeah, a level that puts the Share in Play, Create, Share? That feels right if this does turn out to be the end.

i took the day off work. i guess, strictly speaking i didn't need to. Not physically, and my mental health isn't great, but it's not screaming "CRISIS." Still took the day off. Not that i'm going to do anything wiv it. But maybe not being on my feet for 8hrs of mind-numbing tedium will help something.

Just about finished up wiv the Metal Gear DLC look-at sets. However i decide to structure the DLC look-ats, i don't think i'll be able to do them on a weekly basis like we'd normally do for community levels. i'm not doing anything like a hbomberguy analysis or anything, but there's still a lot of building to be done, and the LBP2 DLC packs are *chonky*, like enough that i'm a little worried about getting the LBsA episodes out on a daily basis if i do them all as thoroughly as i did MGS and PotC.

Multiple playthroughs to get everything is one thing when a level is one thing when a level is just a couple minutes long per run, but i think all or almost all the Muppets and DC levels are level-linked to be double sized. i don't even remember the Move pack wiv nearly enough granularity to say what that one's gonna be like. i'm lowkey worried there'll be bits where you need multiple players all equipped wiv their own BrainCranes, and if that's the case, well, we're just proper buggered, aren't we?
