the trend in fps's is so weird because it started in these wild futuristic settings with power-armored marines shooting blocky guns, then shifted to try to aim for more realism, first with wwii shooters and then with modern shooters. the trend then became theoretical future technology, sort of hard sci-fi that still has current politics over them, and now it seems like it's getting more and more futuristic until it loops back around to futuristic settings with blocky guns and power-armored space marines
