Now Streaming: Marvel Animation "X-Men '97" on Disney+ (3/20/2024)
You’ve waited a very, very, very long time for the return of the X-Men on television and now my friends I can say to hold on tight as the continuation from the original “X-Men: The Animated Series” continues along with Marvel Animation’s “X-Men ’97”. Needless to say we are super excited about this and especially looking forward to the day when the live-action X-Men will be keeping us on the edge…

B4R2: The Extinction
We Didn't Start the Fire:
“I mean. It's kinda obvious”

It's the End of the World as we Know It:
“It's in the title. The song is all about "the terrible change", so to speak, watching everyone and everything you know fall away. It's chaotic and fast, evoking the feeling of being trapped in a disaster. It may be cliché, but IMO, this is the definitive Extinction song.”

It's the End of the World as we Know It:
… That's great, it starts with an earthquake Birds and snakes, and aeroplanes And Lenny Bruce is not afraid
… Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn World serves its own needs Don't mis-serve your own needs Speed it up a notch, speed, grunt, no, strength The ladder starts to clatter With a fear of height, down, height Wire in a fire, represent the seven games And a government for hire and a combat site Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry With the Furies breathing down your neck
… Team by team, reporters baffled, trumped, tethered, cropped Look at that low plane, fine, then Uh oh, overflow, population, common group But it'll do, save yourself, serve yourself World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed Tell me with the Rapture and the reverent in the right, right You vitriolic, patriotic, slam fight, bright light Feeling pretty psyched
… It's the end of the world as we know it It's the end of the world as we know it It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine
… Six o'clock, T.V. hour, don't get caught in foreign tower Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn Lock him in uniform, book burning, bloodletting Every motive escalate, automotive incinerate Light a candle, light a motive, step down, step down Watch your heel crush, crush, uh oh This means no fear, cavalier, renegade and steering clear A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline
… It's the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone) It's the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone) It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine (time I had some time alone) I feel fine (I feel fine)
… It's the end of the world as we know it (time I had some time alone) It's the end of the world as we know it (time I had some time alone) It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine (time I had some time alone)
… The other night I drifted nice continental drift divide Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs Birthday party, cheesecake, jellybean, boom You symbiotic, patriotic, slam but neck, right, right
… It's the end of the world as we know it (time I had some time alone) It's the end of the world as we know it (time I had some time alone) It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine (time I had some time alone)

u mentioned a few times that Lawrence speaks french, so do you think he'd ever call his kids that?
Since he's half-French and spent a large portion of his life living there, I think he might give them terms of endearment, but it wouldn't be very often since he speaks a lot more English than French, even if French was his native language.
I think the terms of endearment he'd use the most would be mon bébé and mon chou, because his mother called him that. But again, it's not something he'd call them very often unless he was told they liked the term.

The Eye (2002)
The Pang Brothers’ The Eye earns itself a mild recommendation from me, but just barely. While the first half is genuinely frightening, the second half is weak.
Blind since the age of 2, Mun (Lee Sin-Je) is preparing for an eye transplant. She’ll be able to see, but it’s not going to be anything easy. As her therapist advises her, she’s used to identifying objects by touch. It will be a challenge to learn to identify things by sight instead. Additionally, she can’t read or write and the blind orchestra she participates in will revoke her membership. Adapted to living without sight, she now depends on others while she adjusts. On top of everything, she begins seeing strange things around her. After a bit of confusion, she realizes that she is able to see the spirits of the dead.
What a great premise. You like Mun and sympathize with her situation. You don’t realize how big a change going from being blind to having sight until you see this movie. Imagine not even recognizing your own reflection in the mirror! It's fascinating even before we get to the ghosts. When Mun first regains her eyesight, it’s blurry so you (and her) can’t tell that some of the silhouettes surrounding her are actually shades that still roam the earth. We’re told the creepy figures are the souls of people who died sudden deaths and that don’t realize that they’re dead, or of suicide victims that are forced to relive their last day over and over. The Eye contains many disturbing and frightening moments. You don’t know what these ghosts want, if Mun can help them, or what their intentions are but they freak you out and you want her to get away from them as quickly as possible.
The movie falls apart is during the second half, when the plot becomes predictable. I love Mun's theory about why she's seeing ghosts. She believes it was a natural gift and that her eyesight was taken away by God so that she wouldn’t have to see these terrifying revenants. It’s like she was never meant to see, but now that she can, she wishes she wasn’t able to. At the same time, eyesight isn't something you'd want to give up, ghosts or no ghosts... right? The plot has a different destination in mind and The Eye turns into another routine J-Horror film (despite being from China). It’s just a mystery that needs to be solved, one that reveals horrible events where the spirit of someone that is dead needs to be appeased so that a balance can be achieved once more. The clues are easy to piece together (even before you see the conveniently undisturbed deathplace of a key ghost). There are four points where this movie could have ended. Each is worse than the last. The beginning showed so much potential. What happened?
The performances in The Eye are strong, the idea brilliant and the film is often scary. It’s so effective that, at one point, I frightened myself. In a scene, Mun and her therapist are riding the subway. Suddenly, I spotted a terrifying face in the upper-left corner of the screen, reflected in a window. At the time I thought it was a subtle scare that was leading up to something, but now, I think it was just me being so anxious and terrified that I saw something unintentionally creepy and just blew it way out of proportion. While The Eye turns out to be a disappointment thanks to its obvious and frankly, boring conclusion, the first half is so good you still need to check it out. (Original Cantonese with English Subtitles, On DVD, September 2, 2014)
